[Q] BMM, remove ROM from System 2 - Motorola Atrix 2

I recently installed LiquidSmooth on System 2 to test out a Kexec ROM and it turns out I'm one of the unlucky ones. What is the proper way to go about removing that ROM from System 2? Or should I just leave it alone?
I see that there are people that suggest running the ROM on system 3-6, I may give that a go too.

Since we don't have /emmc partition we ae using /data for multibooting. So just wipe data. Make sure you have main rom installed.

Great, I'll give it a go!
Edit: Damnit, I re-read the first post in LiquidSmooth and there happens to be a section for amateurs like myself for multi-booting. And of course I did it wrong! Ugh. I guess at least I didn't train-wreck my phone.

[Q] question about LeeDroid rom

So I understand because of ext 4 I need to mount /system and /data before flashing any addons or themes. Does that go for the addons that he posted as well?
I would assume I dont need to worry about it with the kernal....but what about the convert desireHD > Inspire patch.
Also I plan on keeping my stock radio so when I flash the matching RIL....mount /system and /data?
Or would it be a good idea just to mount /system /data before flashing anything past the rom and kernal. Can it hurt?
Thanks in advance.......

This makes no sense. Try again? Far as I know, there is no need to mount /system or /data when flashing the ROM itself, just for other things. Lee did say in his thread that you don't need to do that for anything in his OP, as he's updated them all. However, if you downloaded one of the patches or whatnot from his OP before he updated them, you might want to redownload (I did that with the DHD to Inspire patch, that's why it wasn't working for me).
I do not know if mounting /system and /data would cause any problems, though my gut says no.
For me the full wipe he put in the OP I ran that before I installed the ROM. After that I ran the desire HD to inspire patch and it worked.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
If you do the full system conversion he put in the OP, then yes, you ought to be fine. However, most people didn't do that because we updated from the 3.0.2. The OP in this thread is not talking about that.
Thanks I think I'm gonna give it a try....
I plan on flashing the full wipe...so I should be good to go for everything in LeeDroids thread....
But just to be clear, the last thing I plan on flashing is the matching RIL for my current radio....mount /system /data for that one correct?

Themes
Hi,
I am new to all this. I rooted yesterday and loaded the latest leedroid. (may 20th) I love the R2D2 noise and I wish I could have it for a message ringtone. I wanted try some themes but I am not sure how to tell if they will work before I load them up and I don't really understand how to install them. I tried putting them in the root of my sd card but they did not show up in Clock work mod. I even tried using my side loader app and that did not work. I have looked around and the threads/articles are not as clear as I need them too be. I also liked the "quietly rooted" splash animation. I am not sure how to install that, but at least I could see it on my CWM. I did a back up before trying.
Thanks,
ThorsGal

Dual Boot?

I was able to find some work done on the S3 before it was unlocked but can't find anything current for the S3 and dual booting. Has anyone made any progress or is anyone working on it? There are so many awesome roms out there but it's nice to have a daily driver and a slot(s) for test roms.
Boot Manager is an incredible app that I bought when I had the Nexus. Unfortunately, it seems development is dead.

Boot Manager allows multiple roms to boot from the sd card. It works for the Nexus just wasn't updated for the S3. Seems like an experienced developer could write an app or recovery that allows roms to install and run from sd card. If locked Moto phones can do it (Safestrap), surely ours can.

Moto's rom storage location is different than ours, the entire internal or at least most of the internal is able to be written on using safe strap. And besides, restoring a nandroid backup takes the same amount of time as safe strap does to transfer the data between the 2 partitioned rom's.

You got me there. I'd throw out BootMenu but we don't have a Webtop partition, so I know that'd be shot down.
So our only hope (app wise) at this point is Boot Manager? The app description says the only Samsung phone it works on is the Nexus. Anyone know what's different about it compared to the S3 (in terms of boot partition)?
Here's a link to some Vzw S3 dual boot development but there hasn't been any activity in it since late July - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774795.

Former Boot Manager Addict in Recovery
Honestly, when i had my DX, i was a boot manager addict! you couldn't tell me there was anything wrong with it.
however...
used to have leeeetle minor bugs i had to live with due to how Boot Manager worked. and flashing themes was a pain in the A$$
today i'm in recovery, but still a flash-aholic. all i do now is just flash a rom, get it just how i like it, make a nandroid of it, and can flash back and forth all day.
tired of Synergy, flash TWRP, click on restore, and walla, i've got Paranoid Android up and running... tired of that, and next its Beans Custome Rom 11, and so forth. only annoying thing is that when you add to it after you make a nandroid, and dont upgrade, then you have to go back and add the changes.
but trust an old addict, this is waaaaaay better, and not much slower than Boot Manager!

I agree that backup/restoring isn't THAT bad but I just miss being able to boot to random roms without much hassle. I had 6 current roms on my Nexus. With BootMenu (not to be confused with Boot Manager) on my Maxx, changing between system 1 (phone rom) and system 2 (webtop rom) was literally as fast as rebooting. Just reboot and a menu came up to boot 1st, 2nd, or recovery.
I'm not complaining about my S3 by any means (best phone I've had to date) I just feel pretty sure it IS possible to dual (or multi) boot if some one with the knowledge took the challenge. Quad core, NFC, battery changeable, 4.8" screen, fully functional Jelly Beanable, LTE piece of hardware booting CM, AOPK, MIUI, TW, AOSP, [you name it] with the click of a button. Gets me excited just thinking about it. Wish I know enough to take the project on myself.

I pointed that out on the last page. Do you know WHAT is different about the boot partition that it only works on the G'Nex and no other Sammy phones? I entered my device in manually in Boot Manager just to see if it'd work but it couldn't back up my phone rom (because of boot image).
Unless something is incredibly special about the G'Nex, perhaps the app could be adapted for other Sammys.

[Q] Camera has stopped, Help?

Hi a week ago from today i got the ATT USA samsung galaxy s3. I rooted it last weekend and yesterday i wanted to be able to use the volume button as a shutter button. I searched this up and found this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844374 im pretty sure i did it wrong because i didn't read the entire post and couldn't find exactly how to. I'm new to all of the android stuff (i previously has an iphone). So idk about the ROMs and other terminology. Bassically what i did was downloaded the zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844374 to my phone. I then turned it off, held the power button, home and volume up. i hit install from zip and installed the file from that link. Idk if i was supposed to or not. Now i cannot use camera. Everytime i click camera nothing happens and it just pops up with "unfotunatly camera has stopped." It also made it say "android upgrading applications started" everytime it turns on. I need to know what to do next please and make it simple if possible. Thanks in advance.

Damn, we'll it looks liked you tried to flash a jellybean camera on ice cream sandwich. Try searching the at&t Samsung galaxy s3 forum for a camera app and try installing that over what you got. I got to wake up for work in 5 hours otherwise I'd try to find it for you.
Worse case scenario go to the forum I said above and find the ariel rom and flash that.
All you would do is download the rom which will be a .zip file. You go into the recovery like you did before.
***Make a backup first by going to backup/restore and clicking backup.*** Once that's done you format data format cache go into mount and click format /system then go to advanced and format dalvik cache and then go to install update and select the ariel. Zip you downloaded. Ariel is a very stable ics rom. I used it for months. It's basically the same thing as the stock att gs3 but without the bullcrap bloat.

I mean... It's a possibility you could do the ota update of jellybean (the normal att update) I personally would be afraid to try since you're rooted and have change system files by flashing that... Idk I wish someone else would jump in and and would confirm or deny that because I'm not 100% sure.
Personally I would just flash a custom rom anyway. I'm running the customized "stock" jb rom someone posted in the forum. It's running great and you can flash stuff like the one you originally tried without issue.

I personally would. I'd flash either the ariel rom which is ice cream sandwich. It's very stable with great battery life. Or the new jelly bean rom by enewman17
I've been using that one since last night and it's been running great so far. I was at work all day and I'm at 82% battery life with like 9 hours being on. If you have a microsd card in your phone you should put your data (pictures, music, etc.) on it anyway but you will basically lose all the apps and stuff. So put any data you want to save on your sd and use the instructions I said before to flash properly.

cwm.

hey guys I picked up a gt-p3113 at a pawn shop yesterday for 50 dollars...
I am not new to xda but new to this device...
anyway I have been reading in here since then downloaded odin and used cf auto root to root the device. found mobile odin lite and want to try flashing cm10.1 on it.
where I am getting hung up at is in the tutorial it says install clockwork recovery . I believe this is kinda like a loader for recovery?
I went to the website to download cwm and realized quick I didntknow what I was doing. which file do I get and how do I flash it?
or am I wrong in my understanding that I even need this.
I apologize I am aware it is all here somewhere and I have read alot on it I just dont want to destroy this device. unfortunately since this device has had alot of work done xda is overwhelming. I am sure in a few weeks I will be caught up
thanks guys any help is appreciated.

one more question... battery life on this device drains quick in comparison to our kindle fire hd. will another rom help hattery life? if it makes it worse I am relatively content with stock.
I just feel like I bought a computer at walmart and have a bunch of software and processes I do not want. instead of a clean install.
Sent from my GT-P3113 using xda app-developers app
Well for one, i'd use the desktop version of Odin, if you look on the development section, you should be able to find , for ex, Cf Autoroot, to flash via odin, and after that, flash an odin package for CWM recovery, remember to do a full NANDROID backup after this, just incase.. they're both extremely quick and simple to do, but you must follow each guide to the very last detail, as any mistakes can lead to a $50 paperweight, btw, awesome deal on your tab, 50 is pretty sweet! On the topic of ROMs, there are handfuls of ROMs built off of stock source, either debloated roms, or roms like Sungsonic, there are also Kernels/boot images, if its stock source, keep to stock intended kernels and boot images, as CM or AOKP kernels WILL NOT WORK.

thank you I am thinking the nightly is what I want for cm10.1
just did a backup using cwm this nandroid thing I will have to google
Sent from my GT-P3113 using xda app-developers app
you'll be able to go into cwm recovery and make a full backup of your current rom, kernel etc...and remember, before flashing, factory reset in cwm, clear cache and dalvik, flash ROM, clean cache and dalvik again, the flash any other enhancements, personally, I'm using AOKP Milestone 1, 4.1.2, AOKP kernel, overclocked, my device can handle 1.42ghz (1420mhz) stable, i have it undervolted to save battery, and have my gpu overclocked when i game or bench, also using Beats Audio/Noozxoide to get some sickkkk sound out of the Wolfson DAC, never had ANY device that compares to the sound quality in this thing Happy flashing!

Sorry for keeping coming back to questions.... so ive been reading the cm10.1 nightly thread and it says boot into cwm then flash cm10.1 and then gapps.zip do I do this from odin or cwm

Its okay , you have to do this in CWM, you can download the google apps package for your version of android from Goo.im, make sure you get the package thats for your version of android, then place the zip files of the rom and gapps in your microSD or internal, if using internal, flash zips from sd in cwm, if in microsd, flash zips from external in cwm, start with the rom, factory reset, clear cache, advanced, clean dalvik, flash the rom, clean cache and dalvik again, flash the gapps, clean cache and dalvik, then reboot, ALWAYS leave your tab after it boots for 10 minutes , after 10 minutes, reboot it, leave it for another 5, reboot again, then use, this gives the device time to do some first time running operations

okay files downloaded, device is at 50 percent batt life so will charge first, worst case scenario I should be able to flash using odin back to stock corect? As long asyou dont cause some freak of nature hard brick that stops you from entering download mode on your tab (holding power and vol down) you'll be able to use stock image from Sammobile to return to stock, you can flash it using odin , and dont worry, i had my tab for 3 days and it already pretty much had chrome spinners, i was impatient too, came from an Acer Iconia A100, so its a little learning curve, but overall, pretty good

[Q] What should i choose? PA or stay on CM?

Hi! I'm new here, but i am a bit experienced in stuff...
Anyway, when i got my Tab 2 7.0, i did flash it to Cyanogen. Now, i am on RC2
Now, i am stuck on a question: "Should i get ParanoidAndroid 3+ or stay on CyanogenMod?"
I *can't* find any clear opinions, bug list, installation instructions or kernels... ( I know what is Factory Reset, but "Wipe Everything"? )
So i ask your help, guys. ParanoidAndroid seems an A+++ rom for me, as i like costumization. No, do not ask me to get Xposed, it's already hard as it is for me.
So thanks guys!

I flashed paranoidandroid on my Tab2-p3100 but i had problem with the mic, which was not working at all.
I never flashed cyanogenmod on my tab (may be I am afraid of the term "nightly" makes it seem very unstable, you know!, though, they say they are as stable as they come).
Now there is this PAC-ROM , claims to have all-in-one features of all the roms together, i flashed it as well, it was also a good rom to test, but there were some bugs in it (you can refer to the thread), now I am using Adishakti's Dark-Fantasy-2 rom, which is a modded paranoidandroid+AOSP+ maybe caynogenmod ROM but it is really very good and stable, least of glitches i noticed elsewhere

Please, I beg you, try cyanogenmod. If your uncomfortable tyr the cyanogenmod RC 2. It is the most stable ROM I have used. I have used to for almost 3 months now. Since I am a flashaholic i flash other ROM's often but i find cyanogenmod the best and I always go back to it.

I agree, also. I think it is funny how people go crazy over ROMs which are just other roms modified to the makers preferences. Not to say the makers do not deserve credit for their hard work, but why not take a good ROM and mod it to your own liking. Just an opinion.

Wow, so many comments on my "2cents"
Maybe my comment was perceived as "noob rant"
I had some experience with cyanogenmod in the past with some older phones (gingerbread ones) and definitely i was hooked to it then. But like I said, I was just afraid to try it on my Tab because of that dreadful suffix to it, and Luigi, your comment has really moved me
I am a member at cyanogenmod forum for last 2 years by the same name and I think on this forum too by the same name.
I actually had nothing much to post on xda previously because almost everything I wanted to know was already posted and i used this forum's knowledge to flash friends' phones mostly and had no experience of anything i used so nothing to post, but, since I now own a Galaxy tab P3100 and most of the time I am reading this section about the tab, I just wanted to share what i thought appropriate, that's all.
Thanks for pointing out that the rom I was talking about is a modded PAC-ROM, and I think what one flashes and uses is a matter of personal choice, i just shared my opinion as i think the OP asked for that.
Thanks for the comments
Alright installed cyanogenmod "latest nightly":good:
Working furiously since last 3 hrs installing all my apps all over again
Cleaned my internal memory (wiped it)
Maybe i'll come to like it.

Actually I had a huge backup of applications but I happen to read the SGT2 cyanogenmod nightly thread and right there in the first or second post users are warned against using titanium backup to restore apps. And I thaought, what the hell, maybe I need to wipe Internal memory clean from time to time so why not now.
Somewhere in the forum a new app backup software is suggested, "helium backup"! Any experience with that?
So now we are going way off topic
Back to the topic, after using the new ROM whole night (seriously I was on a night shift!), I found out it to be lot better than someone else's modded version, I used "PimpMyRom" to my heart's content!!!!!

Yes, I used pimpmyrom to add bravia2 engine, the sound tweaks, gps mod for better GPS lock, except for the quality of video, all other things improved as expected. I could not notice difference in video quality.
Gprs was also improved, no 3g where I live.
