I dont have a wifi home network and my usb cable/the transformers cable port works only for charging (tried everything), but is there aa way to connect the tf directly with wifi to a pc/laptop?

This may help (shameless plug). Sounds like the same issue I had. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2324488

DLNA standard does not allow file copy or write on either host or client . But if you just want to "stream" a file then it works perfectly.

I like airdroid too...very clean and user friendly intuitive interface but sometimes doesn't complete the transfer of really big files...
For alternatives: you can use smb, ftp servers like
1) ES file explorer:
--it has an ftp server.
--just start the server and type the ftp:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.port number) into any browser or even windows' own file manager/explorer
--good thing about ES is that you can select only which folder you want to serve (best when you want to serve your files to other but don't want others to have access to your entire phone).
--you can all be connected to the same wifi network or you can use hotspot or access point mode on your android device. You're pc can connect straight to the phone.
2) File expert:
--my original favorit. just like ES but recently it's been asking for a ton of permissions...(could be due to all the added features...),..if you're ok with these...it's still one of the easier apps to use...just long press on a folder and select share via web or ftp and you're done...
3) Syncme:
---if you have an smb server on your pc, this is perfect. sync entire folders at once between your android device and your pc.
Hope these help

SwiFTP – Transfer & Manage Android Files Wirelessly

Hey guys, today's demo is of SwiFTP. Here's the description from my site
Tired of connecting your phone to your computer every time you need to transfer something. Looking to do some on-the-fly file management? Wanna be cool? Download SwiFTP. This handy little app will make your Android phone function as its own server, allowing YOU to connect and transfer files wirelessly (without USB, if you’re confused) to your Android phone or just manage your Android system. You have access to everything, too. Right down into the nitty gritty of the system. Did I mention its free? I don’t think you have a choice but to NOT download it.
SwiFTP Video App Demo/Review
O thats awesome. Now I just need some sort of window I can leave on my 2nd monitor and just drag files to it, and have it automatically connect and throw it into a folder. HMMmMmm. Any devs have ability to code something like that?
I'm definitely going to test this out. Great find and recommendation!
How about transferring files from my sdcard to my pc.or browsing my pc files thru my phone and downloading from my pc to sdcard

Well if you setup your computer as a server, you can use ES File Explorer or AndFTP to connect to your computer
Nice work!

Has anyone tried to set up SwiFTP and connected to it using AndFTP from another phone with success? Me and a friend of mine have been trying it but keep getting an 530 invalid credentials error on AndFTP
I dont use SwiFTP but, download FTPServer in the market and put FileZilla on your computer. Couldn't be easier.
I've always installed an ssh server on all my devices, iphone, ipad and androids. I just activate the server and then use Winscp or I just mount it in Linux.
My friends and myself with Evos use the bluetooth transfer with laptops and between evos. It is not as fast but works pretty well.
I've always just used dropbox for android
What's the range?

[Q] how to transfer files from pc to transformer

im stumped.
All i want to do is move over a video and some music files from my pc to my Transformer tablet using the USB charging cable. My pc is running XP.
I dont have dock/keyboard or an sd card. Just my tablet. I figure i could do this with the usb charging cable. My tablet should show up as a mass storage drive on the pc right?
went to the site to install drivers. Asus sync works, so does my Splashtop remote. I also downloaded a zip file called "ASUS Android USB drivers for windows" and a RAR file called "pc suite_v1_0_18".
asus usb driver i got some MTP error
pc suite i got error "application failed to initalize properly (0xc0000135)
I figure this would be simple. I figure "Pc Suite" should help me move files? I dont know what it is since it wont install. or maybe i could use splashtop? I really dont know.lol All i want to do is move over some files through the usb cable. 15+ experience with computers and I'm embarresed asking all this.
You rebooted both devices?
Wifi explorer also works.

guess i'll give wifi explorer a try. who uses usb anyway right? lol
but I should be able to use usb though right? isn't it supposed to show on my pc as a drive along with the other drives under 'my computer'?
it should also show up as a drive in my computer. like you mentioned. all the other android builds show device as a drive. I would say driver issue
I don't know the size of your video but on smaller files I'll just use dropbox.
Now if someone can tell me how to do it on a mac I'll be happy. I have 4 other android devices and all mount fine.
It just gets mounted as a standard USB drive when I plug my TF into PC, just copy files as you would with any thumb drive
Go market install ES File Explorer, its Free
Create a share folder or setup a share on existing folder on your PC
Go to the LAN mode of ES File Explorer on your tab and scan for new server, select the server or IP address on the same network
there you go, can copy file from PC to tab...no root needed
CHeers
Adb push? Mounting doesn't work with Honeycomb, because they doesn't use FAT32 anymore. All data is in ext4 now.

No - Honeycomb doesn't use USB mass storage, it uses MTP. If you are using XP, you should install Windows Media Player 10 at a minimum to gain MTP support.

The Mac doesn't natively support MTP. You need this.

THANKS for all the responses so far!
I've only had a droid phone (Optimus V) for 3 months. Its my first smartphone and now i've stepped it up to this tablet. Not rooted.
To clarify my original post I'm trying to move a large movie file to my tablet and give Vital player a try. The info provided by the responses so far have been a big help.
THANKS again for helping a noob out.
Very simple, but not least expensive.
I use a Tonido plug ( ubuntu based server) on my network ( always on) to store any files I want to share. I can have access and stream from it on my local wifi network or remotely via direct IP connect. Using ES file Explorer, it looks like just another drive on my network, Store my music there then just stream to TF over network no TF storage needed,.

Networking the Transformer?

Hi, noob here. Is there a way to network the tablet to your home pc and vise versa like a laptop can? I tried the remote whatever thing the Tablet comes with and its accessing my disk drives on my desktop.

i wont provide the sarcastic answer like the previous poster
try
File Manager HD
ES File Explorer
.... and numerous others .....
not sure about accessing your tablet wirelessly from your PC tho ....
I use ES File Explorer. As long as you have a properly shared location on your network you'll be able to get access to it from the Transformer.
If you want to access your Transformer from a computer use Websharing. I like it, it has a built it photo viewer and music player in the pro version. There are a couple of other alternatives too.

Es file explorer sharing problem

Hi, have been trying to share content on a Seagate freeagent external drive and access it with es on my transformer, so far no luck. I should mention that I have the drive plugged into a pogoplug device that works just fine withe the app provided but doesn't allow you to copy folders back and forth. So I figured try out es, can anyone tell me how to configure es to see the drive? Or even if its possible. Many thanks for Any help submitted. I did give es the IP of the drive/pogoplug but no luck.

I have my seagate plugged into the USB of my Asus router..
I had to go into the control panel of the router and set permissions for access to the drive..
Then transfer this log in name and password into Es explorer, plus of course the i.p..
sent from yet another MikG HTC Evo
Thanks for your reply, I will dive in there and see if I can do anything with my router. I could be back.

what i can suggest is you connect your drive to your pc and share it then use ES, go to lan and connect to your pc and then you should be able to see your shared drive.
if you are on a mac i cant tell you how to share it,
so if you using a windows machine,
you can go to my computer -> right click on the external drive and select the sharing.
next you just have to find out what your private ip is.
you can do this by pressing the windows key + "r"
a window will pop up, type "cmd" then click "ok"
a black window pops up then you type "ipconfig"
a bunch of adaptors will show up just look for the words
IPv4 address...: 192.168.1.200 (it'll be in the format xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa)
once you got that you can use ES to go explore the share drive
click on the Lan tab, if it's not showing go to setting to enable it.
click new ->server ( you can try scan but sometimes doesnt work)
under server type in the ip address of your pc the one you just found.
fill in the user name and password of your pc. then you are good to go.
you should then be able to see all your shared folders on your pc including the shared external drive.
Or you can just get a NAS and that would make data sharing within your home network so much easier.

[Q] Transfer File using Wifi Direct

Is there any way to transfer files using the inbuilt wifi direct. Wifi direct in Xperia C shows the connect option but does not have the share option. While Googling I found it can be connected through Office suite. But its not always possible that the other device too has office suite installed. Please suggest me a way out ?

use superbeam or es file explorer
There are many applications that you can use to share files like
1) Flash Transfer
2) SuperBeam
3) Wi-Fi Shoot etc.
You can use these apps to transfer data using Wi-Fi Direct but whatever app you use should be installed on the device which is receiving and on the device sending files
