[Q] Heart rate monitor S-health - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

Anyone know where can I buy heart rate monitor compatible with s-health in sgs4?

There's supposed to be a Samsung brand HRM and fitness band coming any day now. Oh, and a scale, too.

I find it a bit annoying that samsung didn't go with Ant+, the universal standard for HRM. I have two HRM bands for cycling and was hoping they would work but nope.

The Polar Bluetooth Smart should work shouldn't it?

Although it sucks they didn't, Ant+ is not the universal standard. It is being pushed to become one. But right now only Sony phones support it.
Personally I want bluetooth LE fixed.
And where the hell is this HRM? It was supposed to be out last month.

That's not actually true .
Some Android phones have ANT+ built in. If you have a phone that its built in then you should be able to get your phone to sync to the HRM. If you don't have a built in ANT+ You can get ANT+ to work on Android. You need to download the ANT+ service from the Play App Store.
The only draw back if you don't have built in ANT+, is you will need to buy the ANT+ dongle (and a OTG cable if you don't have one).

I know this stuff works, as I just bought the ANT+ dongle and downloaded these from the Play Store. However, several apps say that ANT+ works but I have been successful. Apps like Strava, and Endomondo. Now you can use IPBike and IpSensor Man. I can get the HRM and Cadence to work.

Theres 1 motorola android phone
1 HTC
the rest are all SONY.
Using a large usb adpater is not a valid option for me, i would rather stick to bluetooth as its not bulky. When ANT+ is built into every phone like bluetooth is(still peeved about googles handling of Bluetooth 4.0 LE tho) , or its made small enough to fit inside my battery door(like Qi adapters) Then I'll consider it, but as it stands it still has a good 3-5 years of work before it can be crowned the "standard"

Whatever floats your boat.

Question is still valid from the OP... when is the Samsung HRM going to be released?
Has anyone gotten the Polar BT HRM strap to work? If so... can you walk me thru the steps and what apps youve used it with?
I do wish Polar would port their iOS app over to Android. Sigh.

Polar BT HRM works fine here.

ANT+ Coming to All Galaxy S4 (And All New Samsung Flagships in the Future)
This makes it easy. Simply use any ANT+ heart rate monitor.

it keep crashing on the s4 when i turn it on

GSM arena says S4 i9505 supports ANT+. This should mean it has the radio chip built in, doesn't it?
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9505_galaxy_s4-5371.php

Any Kind of Heart Rate Monitor with Ant+ can connect to the app, I tried my Garmin Heart Rate Monitor to connect, it just work as expected

[Q] Bluetooth a2dp autoconnect

Does anyone know of a bluetooth a2dp gateway that auto-pairs with the N1 when power up?
I've tried Sony and Belkin and heard that the Blackberry gateway all fail to do so (although on the Droid forums some people say the Blackberry does auto-pair).
I had a similar and short lived thread in Q&A, sorry for the 2nd attempt!
I tried at least 4 product from stereo headset to car adapter. I find that nexus requires that the device to support HSP for the auto-connect to work.
I only wish that someone could implement custom media streaming over bluetooth for the rest of us.
look for a device with the following profiles HSP/A2DP/AVRCP.
I'm currently using Kensington LiquidAUX K33428 Bluetooth and it works great. It auto-connects 95% of the time.

Thanks for the quick reply.
How does the audio quality compare to the others that you tried. Does the Kensington support A2DP only? I don't want it taking all my phone calls as well.
The Blackberry definitely does not auto-connect, at least with my Nexus One. The strange thing is, it auto-connects with my Palm Pre Plus every time.
It's one of the most annoying things to me about the Nexus, opening up Bluetooth Settings and having to manually connect to it every time I get in the car is actually a pain, compared to the Palm where I just get in and it's connected.
I was actually wondering if there was an app or some kind of service I could start up that would auto-connect to bluetooth devices. Does anyone know of anything like that?
I'm using a Samsung WEP870. Works just fine with my Nexus One. I am running CM6 RC3 on it, nothing other than that.
I use the Bluetooth A2DP for listening all day to podcasts & other media.
As soon as I place the headset on and power it up, it connects to the Nexus One. No problems.
I have a Sony BT5100 car radio and with stock android (or any non sense android rom) the phone automatically connected to the radio. I guess the later Sony models will be doing the same.

What happened to it being an 'Open' OS? Seems like something an application should be able to fix.

So the Galaxy Gear is the only smart watch i know of with a camera at the moment, but Qualcomm is coming out with a smart watch called the Toq, that has a battery life of 2-3 days, but it uses wireless charging in some sort of case. The Toq also comes with bluetooth headphones.
I couldn't imagine having to charge the galaxy gear every day to much of a hassle.
Keep an eye out for a Google smart watch.

OnePlus One mirrorlink?

Hello XDA,
I have just discovered that the OPO does NOT support MHL OR SlimPort. While this is disappointing it is not the end of the world.
I do however have an NEX 4000 radio head unit in my car which displays my phones apps such as google maps / waze / pandora ONTO the head unit via mirrorlink.
I cannot find any information on whether the OPO supports mirrorlink or not. I would just use HDMI to do full screen mirroring with touch but since it lacks MHL AND SlimPort that is not an option.
mirrorlink is really my last hope to get my phone apps onto my head unit. If I cannot get this to work, well idk haha, its kind of an important feature to me to have navigation on my card head unit instead of holding a phone or mounting a tiny screen to the window.
Hmm, interesting
I don't think OPO supports Mirrorlink.
As you mentioned the HDMI port, I'm not sure if you could make use of Chromecast mirroring for your purpose.

chromecast requires a WiFi network to be set up. I COULD use mirracast to stream the visual aspect but I want to use the touch screen on my head unit as well as I don't see the logic in trying to be "safe" by using a bigger screen that I don't have to hold for nav if I still have to look at my phone to interact with the OS.
It seams mirrorlink is really just a software feature (since OPO supports USB OTG its only a sw limit). HTC is "adding" mirrorlink to the one (they just announced this monday). And it seems there are a few ROMs out there that already added the capability to the M7.
Does anyone have any experience in adding software features like this to roms?

Right.
I have only seen mirrorlink on HTC, Sony and Samsung devices. Looks like those are mirrorlink certified products.
There will be a lot of sw hacking to make mirrorlink available for OPO. But mirrorlink on OPO would be awesome
My new car is coming in February and it will have MirrorLink.
It would be nice if I could use it with the Oneplus One
i wish i could use mirror link with the oneplus one as well

I just got a new headunit for my car and found out it supports Mirrorlink, does anyone know if theres a working Mirrorlink on the OPO? cheers
still nothing?
Anyone wanna take a stab at trying to get it working?
I'd also love to see this happen. Would a bounty help?
April 2016
It's been a while since there have been any comments on this.... Can anyone from OnePlus or anyone on the XDA forums at least indicate whether anyone is at least working on MirrorLink compatibility? Perhaps a port of the MirrorLink software? Something?!? Thank you!
Any news about MirrorLink to Oneplus One?
I have a DV695MB and a Chromecast. The head unit acts as a mouse input. If anyone cares I can make a video. It's the cheapest way to have a Android in your car.

Wrong... With my head unit I can navigate my phone by touching the head units display.
I thought chromecast only transmitted video though and mirrorlink had something else for touch control?
My head unit has what is called dualmirror. I some how get an HDMI signal from whatever Android device into my head unit, then I connect over Bluetooth which in turn acts as a Mouse. I touch the screen on my head unit where I see let's say Google maps and Google maps opens up. I super suck at explaining stuff... Sorry.
My Seat Leon says "this device doesn't support mirror link". So OPO does NOT support MirrorLink (at least cm14 nightlies).
However, Android Auto works incredibly nice.

So... Why are audio docks not a thing?

I'm admittedly coming back to Android from the iPhone but I've always had a charging or audio dock for my devices and it seems people don't really make those anymore. Why is that? I understand micro usb slot placement may play a role but really I'm at a loss here. The stands/charging docks available for these devices are terrible. Is there a particular brand or website that I'm missing?

I moved away from docks shortly after nfc came out. Now I just touch my phone to the speakers and they automatically pair. The nice thing about doing it that way is you can hold and use your phone as it's charging from any outlet in the room/house. I don't think you can use nfc for anything other than Apple pay on the iPhone so that's probably why docks are still so popular on the iphone.

Samsung makes some lesser known ones like the DA-Exxx line.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-DA-E5...431541290&sr=8-3&keywords=samsung+da+speakers

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-DA-E6...8&qid=1431541443&sr=8-5&keywords=da-e+samsung
The highest end one is the DA-E750/751 that has a built in tube amp.
http://www.samsung.com/us/video/home-audio/DA-E751/ZA
Docks are usually phone specific and become obsolete when the phone does. Jack/port placement changes and there isn't a universal standard for getting audio out of the USB port. Using Bluetooth (with or without NFC) gets around the physical obsolescence with a standard method.

3.5mm ir blasters ?

Anyone know if 3.5mm infrared blaster work with the pixel ? I've seen some online for around 5$
Should I take the plunge ?
You should try, I used my IR Blaster on my GS6 a lot and would love to have one on the Pixel
Please post some you've found, and the one you land on.
^&
I have an extended ir blaster that has a 3.5mm jack....
I'm gonna test with it first before purchasing one of the small units.
I heard some phones don't put out enough power through the 3.5mm jack so they have to use viper4android as a workaround.
The other issue is only some remote apps will work.
I will update with my findings.
I tried to link devices but this XDA app won't let me paste for some reason.
After looking around, it looks like there are a couple of different "slim" models (each sold under different names from China).
This style (Universal 3.5mm IR) consistently says it works with android
This style (Slim Keychain consistently says it does not work with android
At less than a dollar each, I ordered one of each that I linked here, but they will of course be on the slow boat from China, so I won't be able to test them for a while.
There are also others, but I really only want the slim style like the keychain version. Plus I don't want to spend a lot of money testing these.

Do you have any links for how to make viper4android a workaround? I just got this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M2VC6G7/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but can't it to work yet.
Update
After trying every possible setting in viper4android, I couldn't get the adapter to work. Putting it right up next to the ir receiver in the TV, just in case the signal was too weak, didn't help. Tried several apps. ZaZaremote recognizes that it is there, but I can't get it to send a signal.
2 other adapters are incoming, and I'll try them when they come.

There is no way that indicates it "powering on", but ZaZaRemote auto recognizes that there is an IR device attached.
I've turned up the "Playback Gain Control" in V4A, made no difference.

Did anyone find the sleekest, Android-supporting, IR Blaster for the headphone jack (that actually works 3 to 5 meters away from the device)?
Its a real shame that none of these 3.5 mm blasters work. The built in IR blaster is one of my favorite features of the Note 4, but Samsung decided that its not popular enough for newer models. I hate to give it up.
According to this article you need to turn it on.
After you download the app “ZazaRemote”, and you plug the Jakcom IR one into the headphones jack, then you need to turn it right. That is how you turn it on. In order to turn it off you turn it left. There is no need to plug and unplug it since you can decide when you want to turn it on and off.

I don't know what it exactly means because my IR Blaster hasn't arrived yet but it seems it's saying that you need to rotate the blaster to the right when it's plugged? Or maybe there's a part that rotates?
I purchased a slim 3.5mm ir and have had no luck. The directions from china says to use zaza remote. Like mentioned in this posting zaza recognizes there is something in the headphone jack, but I haven't had any successful results. If you don't know this already you can use a phone camera to see if ir signal is lighting up by point your camera at the IR emitter on your remote control and hitting buttons on the remote. I used this method to see if anything was coming out of the 3.5mm ir in my headphone jack and I got no lights at all while using the zaza remote app.(suggested by the hardware i purchased) I also replied on eBay to the Chinese company saying it didn't work and they sent me another one with the exact same results. The part about rotating to turn it on is because 50% of the tip of the 3.5 plug doesn't have a metal contact. This means you can rotate the entire plug and its as if you don't have anything plugged in. I thought the rotate for disconnection part was clever, to bad I wasn't able to get this to work.
None work then?
I bought one from aliexpress and it didnt work.
So none of the ones tested above work? I want to use it in a Note 8. Tia!
