I've recently purchased a HTC One XL to replace my Inspire and would like to root the device. I've got a laptop and a desktop, both of which run Win7 x64, after installing HTC Sync, or just the HTC drivers Windows reports the phone as an Unknown Device in the device manager.
I've tried to manually specify the drivers to be used but Windows reports that it is using the best available drivers already.
I have tried searching the forum, and also Googling this, but I've had no luck in a resolution. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

For the life of me I cannot get my Desktop - Gigabyte Mobo (Windows 7 pro 64 bit SP1 with all windows updates) to install the mtp driver for my Galaxy S III (VZW). So far I have tried installing and uninstalling, rebooting, installing drivers both from Samsung website as well as through Kies. The error code I get for the Samsung Mobile MTP Device is
"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"
(looking at device manager)
As a sidenote, I tried installing Universal_Naked_Driver_0.7 from this forum and while it does install without error the phone still doesn't show up in any way on the computer (I.E. My computer/as a storage device).
What is strange is that using the Samsung driver that I tried first (on the desktop) I was able to get the phone to install and work perfectly on my Windows 7 64 bit sp1 home premium (Dell laptop).
Any thoughts or suggestions as not even Samsung chat was able to remedy the issue.
*I am new to the forum but I did my best to (beforehand) search for solutions (which I have yet to find).
I couldn't get the MTP drivers to load on XP, due to the well known problems there. I got the built-in Windows drivers to work, and it seems to be working relatively well. I will be testing a longer upload to my wife's phone later today, but for the few songs I tried on my SGS3, it's working well.

I can't seem to connect to my HTC One S via fastboot on Windows 8.1 64-bit. I just downloaded the HTC Sync manager and I believe it also installs the latest HTC drivers. I also have the latest Android SDK Manager with the Google USB drivers installed. I have not installed any API's from the Android SDK Manager, should I?
When I reboot my phone to bootloader and go to Fastboot Windows 8.1 does can not recognize my HTC One S I looked around and found a solution for the HTC One. However I have not tried it with my phone. Does anyone know if it will work without harm? My laptop also has only USB 3.0 slots.

I have no problem with Windows 8.1 recognizing my HTC One S when it is turned on. I can transfer files without problem.
in windows 8.1 fastboot is not working yet. in windows 8 it's ok. i have read somewhere that some people got it worked with usb 3.0 but i am not sure. i don't have a usb 3.0 port on my pc so i cannot test it, but you can do a search.

I ended up using a Windows 7 PC. Too bad because Windows 8.1 is really a great system. Anyway, in my first post I've shared the link to the post that explains how to install USB 3.0 drivers by Intel. They say that the Intel drivers work, however I really don't wanna go through the whole procedure. Whoever does go through it, please share your experience

Good morning. Please, if i install sdk driver, always the phone is not recognized by windows 8.1 x64. In settings, i look always "unknown android 1.0" and i cannot connect phone with fastboot. every time i need go to virtual machine with windows 7 x86 nd in same way the drivers are installed.
can someone give me a solution? a link for tested drivers? tested!

I just bought a Nexus 5 and I'm having unbearable trouble getting it connected with my PC. I have spent the last 3 or 4 hours on Google and xda forums searching for a solution but nothing has worked so far.
My situation is as follows:
I'm using a laptop running Windows 8.1, I have tried both the original USB cable that came in the package as well as an older one and all the ports on my laptop.
I checked device manager and saw that it was connecting with ACER adb interface drivers. Some people had had the same problem, so I uninstalled the drivers. After that I installed Universal Naked Driver 0.73 (disabled checking for signatures first), my PC could not identify the Google package as a driver. Nexus still didn't show up in explorer although device manager now showed that it was connecting with the proper driver.
I downloaded the Nexus Root Toolkit and did the step-by-step driver setup. Toolkit itself connected perfectly well with my phone and stated that the drivers were successfully installed but my phone still doesn't show up anywhere in explorer.
I've really run out of ideas and cannot find anything online that's related to my problem that I haven't already tried. If anyone could help me, I'd really greatly appreciate it

Have you tried screwing with MTP and (the other) mode? Also is USB debugging on?

Yeah, tried all the possible combinations, MTP, PTP, debug on and off. Responded the same, showed up in device manager and made the connected device sound effect but no folder.

I've tried different drivers from HTC Sync and Sync Manager with no luck, even the generic Google ones. The adb and fastboot tools are working fine, but the Desire S cannot be identified, shown as broken etc. Is there a way for it to work on Windows 10 ver 1511 (10586.164) or do I need to use Ubuntu?
