Good morning, my cousin is giving me his onex and he is having a hard time transferring his files. Can I get some help with how to transfer files as quickly and painlessly as possible. He got an SGS3.

If it's on the newest update, you'll need to install the MTP drivers for windows to recognize it as storage. Install HTC sync on your pc, it should automatically install them for you.

[Q] Problems Loading USB Drivers for my galaxy s 4g

Hi Everyone, I am new to the Android seen, I just switched from a Blackberry to the Galaxy S 4G. I am trying to load 64 bit drivers, and as you can imagin I am not having too much luck. when I try to load them I get a error. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.
1: the errors i get is that it can't find drivers for-
PCI Simple comunications controller, and Universal Serial Bus (USB) controller.
2: the other problem I am having is simple understanding. How do you turn USB debugging mode on and off?
3:I downloaded supperoneclick and when it loads and I hit Root, It just hangs on (waiting for device) Probably because the USB drivers aren't loading correctly.
And yes I am a N00b, so please don't be to hard on me
Thanks For any help you can offer me. Tim.
Try downloading the 32bit. I had the same problem when I did it with the 64bit. To get debugging turned on go to the phone setting, applications, development it should be in there.

Ok I did what you said and I still have the PCI controller and USB controller fualts, but it loaded other drivers also which got it to work. I was able to root it with superoneclick, and I am somewhat happy now.
what does Rooting the phone do to it? what are the advantages?
now can I view, load and unload apps using my computer, and how would I do that?
Also can I view, load and unload music, video and other files using the computer aswell? and again how would I do that? Or if you could point me to a thread that explains all this that would be great aswell.
Thanks, Tim.

Search the development forums, for info on how to uninstall system apps, applying the fota fix, using Odin, etc.

The advantages of root are many. Mainly, you now have "superuser" privileges and access to all files and folders on your phone. This will allow you add or delete what you like and make many beneficial changes.
Just read these forums carefully and keep asking questions so you don't mess anything up. Have fun modding!

Rooting on a mac

So I'm really really new to the whole android world, and I was wondering if anyone could give me a walkthrough on how to root my Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (SGH-I727) running on ICS 4.0.4, kernal version 3.0.8 using a mac computer? Thanks.
Always look to the stickies section for step by step directions.
One issue I did run into is having Kies installed and trying on OSX Lion was having issues. I have a Mac with Snow Leopard and a Windows Partition. Used the windows side to get it done. Easy as pie that way....

this is for a completely different phone though, will it work with the skyrocket?
I am telling you, the Mac route is rough for the Skyrocket... I tried every way possible to do it.
I know it CAN be done, but there are known issues....
Just Google it if you can't find the forum, it will pull up an XDA forum in Google...

forget it...
I was able to root my 'old' galaxy s2 from Sprint using my mac but not before spending about 7 hours or so trying to figure it out. It was a pain in the ass. I can root 2.3.5 in about five minutes now.
I gave up using Mac for all this rooting and modification crap and thought about a couple different solutions to this problem.
You can simply buy a cheap windows laptop, which I almost did. Or you can run Bootcamp, partition your hard drive on the Mac and then install a copy of Windows 7 or whatever version you choose on your Mac. This is very easy to do even for a beginner.
Last week I finally decided to just put Windows on my Mac and rooted my skyrocket 4.0.4 stock ICS in about half an hour after several hours of reading first. In reality it only takes about 5-10 minutes once you have done it a few times.
I bought a legitimate copy of Windows 7 premium FULL edition so that was about $165. I also ended up replacing the pretty full 250 gb hard drive with a Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB hard drive for about another $165. I partitioned about 130gb for Windows.
I love my Mac but the majority of all the programs for the phones are written on Windows platforms.
That's what I am trying to tell him....
It can be done, but its easier to just run windows on the Mac and do it that way....

It's better if you use a virtual machine like parallels or VMware Fusion, that way there's no need to restart your mac or waste space on a predefined windows partition.
Also you could always just use a friend's PC for the rooting process, Later on unless you want to go full stock or you softbrick your device there's not a real need for a computer.

When I used programs like that, It really made one OS. Run weird. Mac would crash or windows would do something funky. If your rooting I reccimend staying away from thus and just do boot camp.

Moonshine help

Could someone please explain to me how to delete the HTC sync file on my phone so I can achieve s-off. I have tried deleting everything that seems remotely closer with titanium backup with no result. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can not delete it. Freeze with titanium back up
Tried that. Couldn't get it to work

I had that problem too, so I did in Linux. If you have a second hd and do not want to use the grub, unplug the win hd and install on second. At boot with F12 you can choose the hd you want to boot. I have Linux Mint v14 kde, but most people are using Ubuntu what let you install Linux alone with windows and easy uninstall.

I was also having problems trying to get s-off for awhile. I tried almost everything on windows installing and reinstalling drivers, adb, fastboot, etc but then I finally decided to download Ubuntu 13.04 onto my usb drive using Universal USB Installer and from there it was history, as they say lol
Here are the steps from the top of my head:
Load up Ubuntu from the usb by making sure that the laptop boots from it instead of the hd
Download adb and fastboot from ubuntuupdates.org
Download moonshine and extract it using the terminal (type tar -zxf moonshine_ville_<version>.tgz or just from the download folder itself
Open terminal and make sure to change the directory to Downloads (this way it knows that moonshine files are there)
In the Terminal type "sudo ./distiller" (without the quotes)
From there it should be the same process as on Windows and hopefully it should work.

[Q] HTC One X AT&T/Computer doesn't recognize phone

I have question.
I transferred everything to my sd card, there was a function to choose from my phone settings. Afterwards I connected my phone to my computer- which was always detected by my computer without a problem-to clean out some cache files from game folders, using total commander. While I was deleting the cache files I believe I accidentally deleted the sd card folder on my computer (which was associated with my phone.) I know this sounds kind of strange, but I do not have root access or any rights to deleting system files from my phone since my phone is locked because I have a contract with at&t. Now after resetting my phone 3 times, my computer fails to recognize my phone when I plug it in. When I plug my phone in, it charges but it is not recognized on my or any other computer for that matter. My computer states that there is an unknown device but not recognizing it as my htc. I located the unknown device on the device manager and installed all the drivers requested of me from the htc device sync manager folder and that still did not work. I have contacted htc directly and I have contacted at&t. They were not able to offer anything beyond doing another factory reset, which I have already done 3 times.
So my question, is there anything I can do? My phone works and charges it is just not recognized by my computer anymore and I cannot add music or anything. Since my warranty is up should I just unlock my phone and install the new android version? Any help or tips would be appreciated.
Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and then plugging the phone in

A Ubuntu or any other LINUX OS may recognize SD CARD... Give it a try!
btw when you connect it and i assume you have Windows does it even show a semi transparent icon of Removable Storage?
1.What OS are you using on the computer?
2. Do you receive any sort of error messages from the cpu?
I have heard of corrupted or missing usb INF files on computers causing this exact same issue.

1. Windows 7
2. No report errors about that. Computer says: "unknown device" and that is all. I located the unknown device on the device manager and installed all the drivers requested of me from the htc device sync manager folder and that still did not work.

Since you don't have root access I'm assuming you do t have supercid or s-off. You could run the RUU. It will completely wipe and restore your phone to an original state. See the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Scroll down and you will find a link for HTC OTAs and RUUs.
Or , as you mentioned at the end of your OP, you could just root your phone and install a custom Rom.
I hope I've helped in some way.

Give more info. What ROM you use, what OS on your PC, what software and drivers and so on. Nobody can help you without minimum info

M on official tmous 4.1.1 unlocked bootloader rooted , pc running on win7 64 bit p.s. i could copy earlier ...but nw can't even copy a 1kb file
Try qtadb or Android commander software
from HTC One
Try a different cable?
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Or a different usb port if you have a 3.0 usb...try a 2.0 usb instead. Also you might consider updating to latest HTC software/drivers if you didn't do that already. Check if it's working on another pc with the same cable...if it does, it's not the cable, it's the pc or HTC software or drivers
Just forgot...you said you're on stock ROM. That has an option specifying how phone connects to the pc via USB...it's in HTC Sync mode right?

Nash...it automatically connects to Usb Debugging and MPT...and it doesn't have any other optionthn mobile network sharing

Are you still able to view the SD card VIA file explorer ?
If you can view your card from the phone then you may have a bad cable or a bent pin
Is your phone still taking a charge ? if not you may have a bad port on the phone
I would try a different cable and or switch USB ports
I had the same issue and it was due to a bent pin on my cable as mentioned above.
I was transferring files with WiFi File Explorer until I bought a new cable.
I can copy from my Mobi to Pc easily...the only thing i can't do is to copy from Pc to Mobi.....
