[Q] Problems Loading USB Drivers for my galaxy s 4g - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hi Everyone, I am new to the Android seen, I just switched from a Blackberry to the Galaxy S 4G. I am trying to load 64 bit drivers, and as you can imagin I am not having too much luck. when I try to load them I get a error. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.
1: the errors i get is that it can't find drivers for-
PCI Simple comunications controller, and Universal Serial Bus (USB) controller.
2: the other problem I am having is simple understanding. How do you turn USB debugging mode on and off?
3:I downloaded supperoneclick and when it loads and I hit Root, It just hangs on (waiting for device) Probably because the USB drivers aren't loading correctly.
And yes I am a N00b, so please don't be to hard on me
Thanks For any help you can offer me. Tim.

Try downloading the 32bit. I had the same problem when I did it with the 64bit. To get debugging turned on go to the phone setting, applications, development it should be in there.

Ok I did what you said and I still have the PCI controller and USB controller fualts, but it loaded other drivers also which got it to work. I was able to root it with superoneclick, and I am somewhat happy now.
what does Rooting the phone do to it? what are the advantages?
now can I view, load and unload apps using my computer, and how would I do that?
Also can I view, load and unload music, video and other files using the computer aswell? and again how would I do that? Or if you could point me to a thread that explains all this that would be great aswell.
Thanks, Tim.

The advantages of root are many. Mainly, you now have "superuser" privileges and access to all files and folders on your phone. This will allow you add or delete what you like and make many beneficial changes.
Just read these forums carefully and keep asking questions so you don't mess anything up. Have fun modding!

Root on a Mac?

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to android, and I have no idea how to root a phone. I am what they call a noob. Thing is, I have a Mac and only a Mac, and none of the instructions out right now focus on Mac. Can anyone help me out? Please and thank you

Should be the exact same instructions. Just ad a "./" in front of whatever adb commands you have to run. I just exchanged my Aria and wont be able to get home to my mac for awhile to root it. But if its any different I'll let you know.

Follow those directions and you will be okay! That's how I did it (i did not use adb, i just held the volume keys and started the phone) I have a mac.
Though you do have to make sure that the Mac can see your phone. You will need to enable USB debugging and choose Mass Storage for it. That MP Application is just crap on OS X and I have set my phone to always behave as Mass Storage.

anyone else having problems with 64bit galaxy S drivers?

I did the one click root with no problem, now can't do the clockwork mod because the drivers keep failng , even tried the root again and it won't work either because of the drivers. I can get it to sync like 1 in 10 times, verified because I can get adb shell working. but it seems if I try to do anything, the drivers basically reset themselves. i didn't have this problem previously, although i did have to reinstall the drivers everytime, now that isn't even working, has anyone got this working correctly? I only have windows 64 bit machines.
EDIT: if someone could post a link to drivers that are known to be working, that would be appreciated, then at least I know I'm using ones that are working for people.
What version of windows are you running?
does it give you any errors, or does it just not regonize it? Maybe an issue with driver signing.

windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. the device manager usually shows errors, i show a bunch of drives listed, after a few tries of deleting the J drive, I get it to show up as wpd file or something like that, then it works for a minute or so, it will let me into adb shell and I can do SU, but if i try adb push, it hangs. same thing when trying to do the 1 click scripts, I know if its working or not, because if it isn't working, the script just hangs, then 10 tries of unplugging and plugging in and it finally connects and runs the scrips although giving errors and such, I did root just fine using the scripts, so I'm not sure whats going on with these drivers. maybe if I knew which things to uninstall from the device manager, i could start from scratch, using back usb port, front usb port, makes no difference. i'm gonna wear out the micro usb port if I keep plugging and unplugging the phone like this.
Hmm it sounds to me that finding the associated driver files in the registry/file system and clearing them. Rebooting. And reinstall of driver would be the best plan of action.
In device manager you should notice a new driver pop up when you plug in your phone. From there you could uninstall the driver, but be aware if you just uninstall the driver without removing the driver files 7 will auto find them and reinstall them when it sees your device.
Without being able to look specifaclly at the computer its hard for me to tell if its a corupt/broken driver causing the problem. There could be a few things doing it.

is there a way to clean everything out? like what things in device manager would I clean out? I can't seem to find them all.

It's not so much in device manager that your looking to remove it. Usually when a driver is installed, it places a directory on your c drive with all the files needed. now those files could be located in /windows or /program folders, or they could be in their own folder for titled samsung for example. (this usually isn't the case for storage drivers like we are dealing with)
I am not sure how samsung wrote their driver package, but you may be able to run it again and have it remove the files for you. I would verify on a windows system, but I don't have one running right now. You may also be able to use the driver installer to follow the path to where it places the files. again it all comes down to how the driver installer was written.
also just thought of this, and it is a long shot, but verify that you don't have an antivirus/firewall blocking the connection.
I don't know if you have another computer, if you do I would try it on that system as well.
Sorry I can't be more definitive on where to remove them. But without a windows system I hate to send you looking in the wrong spot and deleting things that shouldn't be.
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html this program will let you wipe any usb device from the history... worth a shot/try a different port
On 64-bit Windows, you'll probably need to manually set the driver for the ADB composite device. Just do update driver from the device manager, browse for drivers and hit let me pick from device drivers on my system.
Worked for me anyway.
But it sounds to me like your problem is not driver related. Try another USB cable. The stock one is pretty poor. My first Epic's had this problem, so I got another cable and it magically started working again. Also, front USB ports are more finicky, so you could try the back ones.
Linux FTW.
I never got the most recent clockwordmod one click method to work, I always have to use 2.5.0.9, then do the update.zip method for 2.5.1.0., I tried on both of my laptops, one running 7U64, the other running 7U32.
did this and tried two cables from both of our epics, also, it worked fine to do the clockwork mod. used front and back usb ports. no luck.

I have had many problems with drivers on my windows 7 64 bit machine.
To get the epic drivers to work I had to uninstall all other samsung phone drivers first. Download the x64 drivers from that post, upzip.
Plug your epic in mount it. Open the device manager and manually point it at the unrecognized device at that folder. I had to do this for 3 or 4 separate entry's.
Play with it a bit and you should be able to get it working with those.
Hope this helps.
Bah new user bs. Cannt post the link. Go over to SDX developers epic development section. There is a sticky "Confirmed Working Drivers"
I said screw it with the Samsung Drivers. Just installed PDAnet when I got this computer a week ago and no issues (win7 home 64-bit). It asks during setup what phone drivers you want to install. Select Samsung, let it do its thing, and you're all set. ADB works flawlessly, no need to mount sd card to get it to work.

check to make sure you have windows media 11 or higher on your computer. I had that issue. Running XP I had an issue but Win 7 it installed easily..
This is what I used
Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_5.1.0_32bit.msi
MotoHelper_2.0.49_Driver_5.0.0.exe
Windows Media 11
Also search around on google lots of people have had this issue and thats how I found my answer.. Also xoomforums.com is a good site for answers as well
OK so I installed wmp11 and it will recognize my xoom thanks for the tip. however now I cannot get ADB to work my device is there I have every sdk ever made down loaded and I have the moto USB driver mentioned installed but I can't get into a ADB to save my life.

[Q] Question about Rooting on a Mac

I tried to post this in the "Beginners Guide for Rooting" but I do not have privileges. I am trying to root my new s3 on a mac so I am trying to follow the guidance in section one of the guide. However the links for samsung drivers are in an .exe format and the link to the java jdk files has expired. I downloaded the samsung drivers from the link and opened the (.exe) file and I attempted to install another version of the java jdk. When I connect Adam's casual the app recognizes my phone but I am unable to see it on my Mac through Finder. Am I ready to flash if the casual app can see my phone? Or do I need the osx compatible samsung drivers (not with a .exe filename) and a specific version of java jdk?
Thanks in advanced for any help. I tried to search for the answers but I have been coming up empty. Even though casual see's my phone, I'm still not sure if its ok to start flashing.

Did you download the samsung drivers in the link ( the .exe files) and install them on your mac? Also do you still have a copy of the java jdk files? The link in the "guide " is dead or the files have been moved. Thanks.
Mine did not show up in finder. I did have to download another program to interface with the phone. Just run Casuals and you will be fine.

There is no drivers for mac. The only thing that will show is a sdcard if you have one. You are good to use Casual.

Mine doesn't show the sdcard. I can use ADB but that's the only way I can communicate to my device over USB. I have't tried Casual.
Well I finally got home so I could use my Mac with my phone. Casuals worked great a couple of weeks ago as did adb. Now, I can't get either to work. I read that some are having issues with the usb ports on the newer MacBook Pros. I will do a little know testing and see if I can find a way to make it work post back. I tried rebooting, different cables, etc with no luck. If anyone knows anything, please chime in.

Okay, after a lot of digging, I finally figured out what I did. I take no credit for this, I found it on here in reply to a thread somewhere. I can't remember where as I usually view this site on my cell phone.
sudo kextunload -v /System/Library/Extensions/EasyTetherUSBEthernet.kext
from a terminal. I forget if you have to reboot or not.
This will disable tethering, but you can now see your device via adb.
To renable tethering once you're done debugging, use
sudo kextload -v /System/Library/Extensions/EasyTetherUSBEthernet.kext
This is for EasyTether only, but I am sure that there could be another type of app that would do the same thing? If you could isolate the app, it should be as easy as replacing the EasyTether part of the command and running that. Good luck, I personally know how aggravating that things like this can be.

[Q] Fail to see my Nexus 5 on Win7

Hi Guys,
I had a rooted 4.4.2 device, when I got the the 4.4.3 upgrade and I think that from then I cannot see my device on my laptop.
(I am not sure of that because I CAN see it on my work desktop...)
Anyway, whatever I do - I get the following results:
1. Device manager shows me under the "Portable Devices" the brance F:\
2. When I try to install new ADB drivers, it tells me that "WPD fileSystem volume driver" is the best for me...
Storage usb connection setting is set to be MTP.
Meanwhile, I cannot see my nexus 5 files on my laptop
Please assist, Thanks!!!

Delete the device in device manager and then let it find it again.

If you mean to uninstall it, then I did it couple of times, and now again when the device was disconnected. Then I reconnected the device to the USB port, and scanned the deice manager for changes.
I got the same result - see attachement.
Delete then reboot both devices. Connect phone again. If same, delete device and reboot phone whilst still connected
If that fails, delete and use "universal naked driver"

Never seen that before. Your drivers obviously aren't set up right. Google 15 second adb drivers xda and use that to install the drivers. It'll also set up adb/fastboot which you may or may not need. It gives you the option

It's supposed to work fine even with it on, at least it did when I had it on. Tested on Win 7, 8, 8.1 and 8.1U1 lol. I never had any issues with USB ever.
Or use Linux, it'll work right away..
It's not set to Camera (PTP) instead of Media Device (MTP) ?

Guys.
Thank you all for your kind help.
I tried at least most of your advises - but there were no joy...
I think that the best I should do now is somehow clean up my system from old drivers and related installations.
So, taking aside the option of reinstalling windows, can you share with me some procedures that will enable me to get rid of all old drivers and files and to reach a state of a clean system, so I can then start reinstalling the drivers again?
Thanks a lot!
