[Q] HTC Sensation WiFi Error

Hi,
I am new to the forum and appreciate your help
I did a OTA update to 1.35.707.1 after which i cannot turn on WiFi. It tries to turn on after which it indicates error.
Please suggest a solution for this......is it possible to roll back to the previous software version of 1.28

Try a factory reset. Go to settings, SD & Phone storage and click on Factory data reset. Keep in mind this will erase everything on your phone.

Tried a factory reset...still not successful.
Is it possible to downgrade ROM to version 1.28.....

I experienced this exact same problem today when helping a customer with their HTC sensation. I tried the Factory Data Reset as well and still got the same error. The only solution I found was to tell the customer to contact customer support to get a replacement unit. I'm not sure if it is a software issue of if there is some issue with the wifi antenna in the device itself.

Damn, I have the same issue, how long does the warrenty cover the unit for? Can you just walk into the store for a replacement?

Bump thread, same issue here, turn on wifi, says error. Very sad

Same issue here, started to show the error just like that. The night before was working fine and the next day could not turn wifi on.
I did a superwipe and installed mike's Revolution HD 3.6.5 but still same issue.
Hope smb will find where is coming from and really hope is not a hardware issue.

You are lucky you can return it.
I purchased the phone through E-bay, seller in US and I am in europe, no chance for me to return it
Have been experimenting with ROM's and after a superwipe, clear dalvik, installed [ROM]LeeDROiD Sensational V3.1.0 [KERNEL] LeeDrOiD V3.3.0 | 19th Sept | FAST | STABLE , as i read somewhere on the forum that has ROM close to stock and have been cases it fixed the issue (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16125179&postcount=3)
but did not help me, the wi-fi still doesnt turn on at all.
Will update if i find anything or get any results.

I have a fix for my problem. i had another Sensation for repair here for some other hardware issue, so i was playing around with two phones. after all this i figured out the problem.
this flex inside was giving wifi error

later on did small research, it has a BCM4329EKUBG chip on it which responds for wifi, bt and fm, its not cheap solution to replace a flex, but for somebody this could be only way
Reheating this chip with hot-air fan (it was like 290-300 degrees) helped me, if you want to try this dont blame me if you mess it up !!

Makes sense, i did once cook a graphics card in an oven on 220 degrees for 20 mins and it brought it back from the dead, still working today, got a video of it somewhere.
So specifically, what did you do please? I'm in a place where i have lots of spare parts lying around from pretty much every phone you can think of, so what do i need please?

first of all try a software repairs, cause i see a lot of people have similar problem after playing around with different roms
what i did, just disassemble the phone, take out that big flex cable. disconnect all cameras and flex cables you can (unless you want a blurry camera)
on a back of flex there is metal slab covering chip, took it out. after that i heat chip area for minute or so with my soldering heating gun, wait until it cools and install in the phone, after doing this operations it started working.
do it on your own risk

Alright! Now where is my soldering heating gun, I will have to try this one. Reverting to stock everything first in case I mess things up

I have the same problem. I try installing ICS on the phone thinking it was a software error. I still have no wifi connection. Try *#*#4636#*#* and the status on the Wifi is Unknown (unintialized on Supplicant state)
Did any of you know where can I get this board (where the BCM4329EKUBG chip is located)?

Sent it back for RMA, changed both lcd screen (a single piece of dust) and rigid flex. Comes by air mail tonight!

THANK YOU SO MUCH vladvertigo (caps intended). I tried all the software fixes I could find, even went back to bone stock, S-ON and everything, so this was my last resort before buying a new flex ribbon assembly. I don't have a warranty because I bought the phone on Craigslist.
Anyway, I can confirm that using the heat gun for a minute worked. I made a heat shield out of an aluminum can, with a small square cut in it. Held it right above the bare chip, and the gun right above that. I disconnected the main camera, but not the FFC. Pretty sure I borked it in the process but it's no matter; I'd rather have working WiFi than the FFC. Which I do now, thanks to you! Woo!

about point 2): keep in mind that this requires removal of the battery cover and then opening the battery compartment door which may not fit to the term "easily", especially when the phone is powered on

yes, yr right, "easly" dosent match lot here, but no need to remove the battery and turn the phone off ths most important. thanks again kind from u

if u remove the battery door, chances are that the battery will slip out.
If u wanna know if the sd-card is hot-swappable or not, i would say the answer is no.

Considering how you can fry the emmc chip in these devices by removing the battery, I wouldn't even consider that it's worth the risk trying to swap out an sd card while the device is powered up in order to save three minutes

To remove sd without turning the phone off I simply open the battery cover while keeping the battery still against the contacts with my thumb. Before that, obviously,I go to Settings-storage-unmount sd card!
By the way,I have wifi grip issue: it happens whenever I put even a single finger beside the speaker, below the jack output.

[Q] One S Antenna

Hello guys, got my One S a month ago, was really enjoying the phone, great speed, great UI, great Camera, etc..
But yesterday i accidentally dropped it, and from now on, my phone has signal issues. Most of the times it says "No Service", and sometimes when i grab the phone it says full strength, then 3 second later the signal drops.
What could it be? Maybe the antenna connector slipped off when i dropped the phone? It was a really low drop though.
Please, i need some help.

U know Where u put in the sim that's the antena the gold stuff u must of dropped and damaged it

Hmm.. i dropped the phone too from the chair, i damaged the unibody case and im having this signal issues too.. but not the same as you. Sometimes mobile network goes in tilt and i must reboot the phone and lose signal when mobile network is active in a low signal area.. but i dont remember if i got this problem first to drop the phone.. any idea?

It does not look damaged, the gold stuff is there, and its touching the top gold stuff when i close it.

I remember having those issues before i dropped the phone. I had to reboot the phone and then it turned back to normal, but im pretty sure this is a different problem now.

Those are antennas but they are not GSM/cell radio antennas. If someone wants to test this, look at your bars and then remove the cover. Nothing will happen. Your bluetooth will probably disconnect though...
Cell antennas are almost always in the base of the phone now near the mount, this is to reduce radiation while on a call.

+1 The cell antenna is at the bottom, Under the speaker cover, Be careful though !! its fragile, If you remove it, you might not get it back on.

Mine did not look like that
I just had the gold pin on the bottom right corner, with some sort of cloth covering the speaker, That was it.
Its a little hard to judge as the pic isnt that clear.

interesting... i've been having reception issues lately but i attributed them to the latest software update...
I did drop the phone from about knee high the same day i got the update and hte problems started...

The problem to my one s seem the WCDMA.. when its on i lose the signal like istantly.. with gsm only its working with 5 bars. any idea why WCDMA is giving problem to me?

Pull sim and check it had similar problem with glacier. Sometimes the sim card doesn't make good contact and will drop cell service.

Hey,
I also had dropped my phone recently and broke the screen. I got the screen replaced, however I seem to get terrible signal after that. I get full 5 bar signal in an open area but if i get into my home or office, i keep losing it. The signal bar keeps reducing and show 3,2-signal bars and then loose gsm connectivity completely. Wifi works pretty decent with no issues however.
Have any idea to fix this?

I had to send my HTC One S to repair. There was no other way of fixing it.

It may be a silly question but i always wondered what is this thing on every back of the phone?
I belived it's some kind of antenna connector but then why on my old samsung is under my battery?

Those are for an external antenna. Every phone I have ever seen has one but sometimes they are hidden under a sticker or rubber plug. I don't exactly know what the practical use for one is though. I can't imagine anyone walking around with a wire sticking out of the back of the phone and an external antenna duct taped to the phone.

I had one my Lg Vu, never really knew what it was, but I just assumed that it was something that the phone company used for diagnostics or something. The external antenna makes more sense though. I wonder if i could buy the equipment to use an external antenna on it. The coverage at my cottage is sporadic at the best, and I'm not there often enough to justify paying for a land line.

It's a connector (type FME) for an external antenna and is designed for use with a "car kit" that is permanently mounted in a car or some other fixed location. The reason it can be under the battery is that you take the battery out and the car kit base unit supplies power to the phone either from the car's power system or, if you've set it up at a fixed location, eg., at gator365's cottage, you would have a mains operated power supply for it.
It used to be a common feature on cell phones, but you don't see it so often now days.
I would not recommend just connecting a piece of wire as suggested by bbrad - it might be ok on receive, but an unmatched random wire antenna is not going to do the output stage any favours when transmitting and is likely to result in a dead phone - a high VSWR is bad for any transmitter.

I didn't recommend it I just said you could do it and receive better signal which you can and I didn't recommend just "sticking an price of wire in there

Tempted to grab an old phone and stick a piece of wire in there to see what happens to signal quality. Now I just have to find an old phone!

Fingerprint hardware not available

Since the laat update im getting this annoying message, the fingerprint goes completely unusable and it is pretty random. It sometimes work and sometimes don't. After restart or turning on it works, but at some point it stopped.
No drops or similar situations to believe it got it damage.
Any one experiencing this?

I had this issue once, but it was due to drops, the cable connected to the fingerprint scanner inside the device was a little loose, so all they did was tighten it
you might think its not due to heavy drops, but the slightest drops could cause a disconnection I dont think the issue is software related, if so try different ways, try getting back to nougat, or using xperia companion for software repair, try these methods if the issue persists it means it is a hardware related issue.
I also think its the case because even when the device get the easiest drop that to you its not even concidered a drop, could cause an issue in this particular device.

Im not sure. After hard reset, it tarted to work normally and actually asked me for fingrprints, bt after set up all the phone, even the software option to manage your finger prints was gone.

yes it does seem like a loose connection, some times the electric circle is ok then the fingerprint works for a while, then outta no where the cord connecting of the fingerprint to the motherboard gets some how slightly moved from its position then the electric circle is open and there is no connection from the motherboard to the Fingerprint scanner so it does seem like that, if youre still uncertain you can always perform a software repair or revert back to nougat but I'm almost certain that its NOT a software related issue.
I do suggest you sending your device to a Sony center in your area to have it looked at.
even if youre not under warranty, tell them you highly believe its just a connection issue, it shouldnt cost much, but if they checked and claim that its something rather so expensive, you can deny their request of fixing the issue.
but again if you are certain your device looks undamaged and as good as new with only minor scratches and no sign of a significant drop damage or water damage then in my opinion youre good to go.
If you also think Sony will use any excuse to make you pay for only "spectating" your device for issues in case you are not under warranty, if the amount is low I think its only fair you confirm the suggestion.
in case you think they would charge you so much and you are uncertain of how much they would make you pay, I believe a phone call to Sony center for information confirmation should tell you exactly what you need to know.
in case none of the solutions were good enough for you, you can always use Youtube or Google to help you open your device by yourself and make sure the fingerpring scanner is perfectly connected, or buy that part by your self and install it if you think it would be a more cost efficient solution.

no its not really bad dude, call sony support center in your area and ask for information on the problem and ask them if they charge a lot
