Hi
I'm just looking for some advice.
I'm using a Spigen Slim Armour currently and whilst I love the case I find it's a little bit slippery and the lip on the front is a little too shallow for my liking.
I cant decide whether to get an Otterbox Commuter or Cygnett Workmate. I've never owned cases from either but Otterbox is a brand name I recognise.
I like the workmates protection --- the drop test is convincing but there are reports about the charging port being too small.
The otterbox looks like it might be a bit slippery and may not offer the same protection.
Any advice welcome!
Im using an Otterbox Commuter right now, it's not that slippery though but kinda bulky compared to Spigen..

Thanks I happy with a bit of extra bulk for the extra protection. The spigen is very stylish but I'm not sure how well it will strand up to being dropped.. and it's pretty slippery!!
If I were you I'd go with the workmate. But I personally use the UAG navigator case.

Go for Otterbox Defender (if you don't mind the size). :good:
I realised I wrote defender..I meant the commuter case. The defender is just too heavy duty for me.

I currently use an otterbox commuter. I think for the protection it offers it's not that bulky.
It still easily fits in the breast pocket of my military uniform without being all that noticeable.
Plus otterbox has awesome customer service and warranty. I've gotten several brand new cases from them over the years when port covers broke off or if I had other issues with the case.

Just got the Cygnett Workmate Evolution today. It's a bit bulky but I dont mind because it's going to protect the phone. One thing that I just noticed and you also pointed it out was the phone charger wouldn't go in and it's true. I'm using the stock charger that came with my phone. I'm probably going to get a new charger or return the case.
I have the commuter and I love it.

No need to worry. Yes, the charging port is too small (narrow) for the stock S4 charger, but one sharp knife and five minutes later... problem solved.
I received my Workmate Evolution earlier this week, and got my S4 this morning. Sure enough, the charging port was too narrow. I took a sharp knife and raked it across the upper and lower surfaces of the case's port, holding the blade at a 90° angle to the surface. Thus, abrading it rather than cutting it. Took about five minutes.
In Cygnett's defense, the OEM charger plug is much bigger than any other micro USB cable plug I own.
Hours into owning the phone, I can say I'm happy with both it and the Cygnett case.

+1 for otterbox.
I've been using it since iphone 4.
I recall dropping it from 6 feet on concrete.
The corner of hard shell broke but my iphone was flawless. They also sent me a replacement case and honoured on their lifetime warranty policy.
As for s4 commuter, I personally find it a 'little' slippery but not as much as a naked s4.

I absolutely love both Otterbox and Cygnett. In the past, I've had issues with Otterbox's silicone warping out of shape. The new one on my wife's HTC One (which is identical to the one I tested on my S4 earlier) is way better than the older versions. Went with Cygnett this time purely based on aesthetics as I think the Cygnett looks wayyyyyy better.
The main differences in protection are that the commuter cases have the hard polycarbonate closer to the edges, while cygnett offers a wider tpu layer. The lip above the screen on the workmate is slightly higher than that of the Commuter. Cygnett's TPU is harder though I can't offer an opinion on if its better or worse (though it means the fit on the Cygnett is slightly better, espcially around the sections where the hard bits clamp around the soft bits). I think the hard shell is thinner but the TPU thicker on the workmate
Usage wise, the Cygnett is slightly grippier than the otterbox. The button presses slightly less mushy. The edge of the lip on the front is sharper and you'll notice it though it's not uncomfortable. I like the fact that the ports are uncovered, but the reports are right. The hole for the USB port is too narrow. I can't fit the original cable in, however it's not a deal breaker for me as I have 3 other cables and chargers. Nothing a sharp hobby knife can't fix though.
To be honest, unless the sharper edge on the front lip or usb port hole size are deal breakers, I would recommend the Cygnett. That being said, both are pretty good cases, and you can't go wrong with either when it comes to protection.

i bought the WorkMate over the weekend. love the case.

super tough bounced across the floor a few times already and no scuffs or anything removes easy to change out the battery and/or SD card
Hey figsalan101,
Nick here form Cygnett, mate.
Sorry to hear about that the charger port isn't lining up correctly with the WorkMate Evolution, we have had a few reports of this happening.
The issue of the charging port has been fixed and all of the cases we are introducing into the market now are working correctly. You entitled to a refund or exchange at the point of purchase if you'd like to.
Regards,
Nick
I went for the black Cygnett Workmate Evolution in the end and love it - thanks for the advice.
The ports are all correct - I bought it directly from Cygnett's website and I guess they have fixed the issues with the earlier ones.
The buttons are still a little stiff even after a couple of weeks use.. but it's a small price to pay for the protection.
I have dropped it once already when getting out of my car. It bounced on my driveway a couple of time without any visible damage.
I still like my Spigen Neo Hybrid, Slim Armour and UAG Scout but none offer the protection I need at work... and excellent grip.

Hey,
What do you guys use/recommend for a slim fascinate case? I like the ones that have part of the top and bottom recessed. I also would like to now your opinions on cases with kickstands.
Thanks.

The OEM Fascinate Kickstand case works well, and adds about a mm of thickness. Kickstand works well. I've dropped the phone about twice on concrete, no damage on the phone and a few dings on the case
Sent from a Limited Edition phone from a Premium app..
How does the kickstand last over time and being dropped?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Incipio has an awesome thin case
The kickstand doesn't potrude out so it stays smooth along the surface of the case. I haven't had any issues with it at all. I've never dropped it in its kickstand position, because.......your not supposed to move it when its in kickstand position. But the kickstand is firmly attached to the case, so no worries about breaking it off unless you force it off yourself. Everyone who has used it mostly has good things to say about it.

I recently got the Seido Active-X. Really happy with it.
IMO, the best case out there:
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/csk3ssfas-rd.htm
great protection, slides in and out of pocket easily, and looks great.
Thought I'd just pitch in with this:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Fasci...sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=mobile&qid=1303942589&sr=8-7
It's quite slim, fits in my pocket easily, it has a nice feel to it, and it's probably one of the cheapest options. I've gone through a few cases with this phone but I never really like the way they made the phone feel. This case on the other hand make the phone feel reeeaal comfy. I actually prefer having it on as opposed to leaving the phone naked.
The only real problems I have with it are that it's a bit of a lint collector and small
parts of the spine may need to be filed down (little sharp bits of excess plastic).
I have the incipio one and i love it. It also can be removed easily if using a dock. I will be picking up a second one actually in a different color I like it so much. It is also only 1mm thick but still provides plenty of protection.
I like the seido ones as well but to me too bulky. My wife loves it though.

I have the OEM Kickstand case and have had nothing but good experiences with it. I've dropped my fascinate once on concrete and there's nothing but a scuff on the edge of the case to show for it. It's sturdy and obviously fits the phone very well. The kickstand is sturdy as well. If you listen to music or watch video the kickstand allows you to access the screen without laying the phone down and covering the speaker.
If you really want a super thin case I have the Case Mate Barely There case and it is amazingly thin and has worked great for me so far.

Anyway I noticed that the Skyrocket has much more options compared to the Hercules in the case department. So i wanted to know you guys and gals think is the best case for the Skyrocket.
In My Opinion.. which im also using right now is the otterbox commuter. i wouldn't say it as a best case, but it does the job i needed it to do, i can slip it in and out of my pocket easily and fully protects my phone from nicks and bumps and doesnt really add greater bulk to it. plus it cover your headphone jack and charging port... which i think is really neat.

I love seidio.. but I cant get over how much lint and dust collects on the soft inner layer on the active cases.. drives me mad. same for the otterbox commuter... seidio surface has been my weapon of choice for many years. cept the ones for skyrocket feel cheaper to me. and kinda loose.

Its like a Barely There. Love this case for low profile.
I am currently using the otterbox commuter.
I also have the case-mate tough case in black/red that I really like with one complaint. The the hard plastic shell does not fit snugly against the soft inner rubber. I thought at first I just received a bad case, I sent it back to case-mate explaining the poor fit and they sent a new one that arrived today. I installed the case and it has the same issue.
Looks great and if the hard plastic outter shell fit securely it would be a great case.
i got the casemate barely there brushed aluminum and silver SGP neo hybrid.......love em both, hated all otterboxs' and the casemate pop.......too damn bulky!!!
those leather ones are really nice just flipping it open every time to use it makes me wonder ..
I also had an amzer tpu which for the price was fine.
I chose the slim because not like the skyrocket is a flimsy pos anyways, I've dropped other phones bare 20+ times on blacktop and concrete they never broke or malfunctioned at all .
I also like the Trident case for the skyrocket though yep
i have a guy building aluminum bumpers for it , screw seal and all -20USD soon xda, vewy soon
Can anyone confirm if/any cases fit with a full Invisishield?
My Skyrocket was bought from Ebay and it came with the Otterbox Defender case. So far it has done wonders as I have extremely clumsy hands. Design wise, I don't know how it can get much better.

I just got a Otterbox commuter. I cannot understand why the corners have no hard shell protection, if you drop your phone there is a good chance it will land on a corner with heavy impact. The most frustrating though is how hard it is to use the volume up/down pads, massive resistance.

I bet its because the phone would be 10x harder to take out if the corners had hard shell protection. Plus if you take a look at the inner layer of the case, it has extra width in the corner areas for the very reason of needing extra protection during drops for those often hit areas. Concerning the buttons, idk about massive pressure. I use the power and volume buttons constantly while hearing music and usually get away with just pressing down a little harder..

I don't know about that. I had a captivate with an otterbox commuter, full shell zero problems and other than this being 0.5 inches larger the form is almost identical.

I really dislike using any case at all on my phones. I've never used them in the past. But this phone is just so darned slippery, a case is practically necessary to keep from dropping it all the time. So right now I'm using the Diztronic case, and while it is quite thin, it still IMHO adds significantly to the phone's size. Are there any cases that are more just like a thin skin? I am not looking for any drop protection; just looking to make the back of the phone less slippery. I suppose some kind of sticker could also do the job...
Any ideas appreciated. TIA!
Might want to check out ghost armor or something like a full body skin. Basically a screen protector but for your whole phone.
Or check out the incipio feather or one of the barely there cases.

Full body skins are a terrible idea and a recipe for destroying your phone by corrosion, especially on a device with a sealed battery like this one.
Use an HTC hard case or something similar. They are very light and thin, but they will also easily break if you take it off and put it back on many times.
I use the diztronic case and it adds almost no bulk yo the phone at all.
Body glove makes a nice thin case. I bought one at walmart for $20ish.
Thinnest cases are these thin shell cases. I have the black one and it's really thin and doesn't hide the beauty of the phone.

I have both the black one and the transparent one.
They are really thin and add minimum bulk to the phone. However, they also barely protect the phone at all, probably only good for keeping the back of the phone from scratches.
At the back, the case is level with the red/blue ring around the camera lens, i doubt it protects the lens at all.
The transparent one has a frosted feel and is still pretty slippery, but it's better than without a case at all.
I would recommend the black one as it gives a rubbery texture and it's pretty grippy.
Overall i love how the cases manage to give me minimum protection and bulk.
i chose the One S over the X partly due to it's thiness, so i bought these cases to keep it that way.
Cheers!
nice

I've used one of the inexpensive (sub $5) mesh cases off eBay. Extremely thin, feels great in the hand, but quality could be better. Then again I paid three bucks for it.
Dust definitely gets behind the case through all the holes, but I'm willing to deal with that to get the additional heat dissipation for those times when it gets toasty. I just wish I could find a vented TPU case instead of this hard rubberized plastic.

I said that too when I first got my bumper and then tried it a second time and resold it again. Won a white OEM one and hasn't come off yet.
I suggest the Ringke Fusion, but you may not like fingerprints on the back of that. Also cruzerlite has some nice cases as well. Also Diztronic tpu cases are nice if you are looking for a plain jane tpu.
The Diztronic case is great. It barely adds any thickness to the phone. While not TPU, I'm also digging the Body Glove case. Laterally, it doesn't add much thickness, but it's a little beefier on the back which might be a good thing with the glass and all. Both cases have raised edges which allows you to put the phone face-down if that's ever a concern.
I have the Diztronic TPU on mine and my girls. She has dropped it numerous times and not a scratch on it.
Mercury 6$ case, it's nice as I have one for a note 2. The note 2 is more snug versus this one however, this one has lips on the sides to protect the screen.

You must've had bad luck with it then.. the cutouts on mine are perfect. What I do dislike though are the buttons, which are a bit hard to press and feel mushy.
I still haven't seen a case that I like 100%. Every single one makes it either look a lot cheaper, adds too much bulk or doesn't offer enough protection. But.. well, nothing you can really do, I guess
I have the official bumper, rinke fusion, poetic borderline. I can say using Ringke fusion brings the feeling of a solid phone. Using the official bumper adds a width for the phone. In the poetic borderline i didn't feel any bulk at all. That's my experience about those cases. I consider the back design in choosing a case cause i wanna let others can see the beauty of N4.

Mine arrived this afternoon and I love it. Can't wait for my skin for the back to arrive so it can feel safe and look sexy.
Official Bumper, Diztronic, a two part mesh case, etc and my FAVORITE is the Cruzerlite Bugdroid case in Smoke. You can see Nexus through the back of the case, not much width added at all and with the Bugdroid pattern carved into the back it offers much needed slip out of the hand protection. Cut outs are perfect also.
I've only tried the diztronic and I highly recommend it. Doesn't look like anything special or nice but in terms of protection it works. I've dropped my phone many times with it on and no scratches or dents or anything. Also the cutouts on mine are perfect.. There is a whole thread on it here I believe. I do wish the beautiful back wasn't covered though.. ringke fusion might be better in that sense.
I've gone through a few cases and settled on this one. My fave case so far, offers great protection and fits over the iloome tempered glass screen protector, unlike the Ringke Fusion.

My rubber seems to turn brown and attract every piece of dirt within a mile of it and now, I have just found, the pink has bled into the white on my phone and stained it. Is this the phone or the case being substandard here? I do love otterbox but I'm thinking its time to move on. What case can I look to for the same protection and reliability? What's the best/worst phone case in your opinion?

I'm a big fan of the Spigen Slim Armor and Spigen Neo Hybrid cases for this phone. High quality, fits like a GLOVE, not bulky at all, look great, and don't have the big lips like the otterbox that make dragging down the notification panel a hassle. Check out their site but buy from amazon, I think you can get the slim armor on amazon for less than 15 bucks at the moment.
I use an otterbox commuter for my s4 and it doesnt interfere with notifications panel at all.(that happens in the s2 commuter case)
Dunno about other colors but my black is holding up pretty good to daily abuse.

Using Spiegen Slim Armor and View.
He gives better design but I'm thinking the Otterbox have better protection if you drop it unfortunately.
Well it's dépend if you take care about your phone or not.

These cases are built for war to thick for me. I tried it for a week and ordered me a smaller case. These cases are perfect for people who drop there phone alot there well built but I rather have an extended battery and a case if I'm gonna make my phone this bulky.

Otterbox makes my phone feel like a brick so I went with spigen neo hybrid. Complete coverage and a little lip.

Just got a gift from a friend, Otterbox Commuter for S4, everything looks fine but the cutout for charging below the case seems not so accurate.
After the disaster which is the S3 Otterbox Defender, I have refused to recommend any Otterbox product to anyone. (the silicon would just keep stretching out of shape)
My GF's S3 Commuter fared slightly better with none of the silicone issues but the plastic shell cracked the first time she dropped the phone...
Fast forward to today... we're both using S4s and couldn't be happier with our Ballistic SG Maxxes. Truly a marvelous case which takes impacts and drops like a champ! The design of the S4 version is a little skimpy up top though but so far so [email protected]
I work in construction so I have a Defender on my s4. Holding up great so far. Thinking about picking up another smaller case for weekends.

Spigen Slim Armor
I have been using the Otterbox Commuter cases over the last year and have been really happy with them. However I recently got the Blue Spigen Slim Armor and it is really impressive how it fits, quality of construction, buttons are easy to push, fits perfect and looks are better than anything I have seen thus far. Plus it matches my Grabber Blue Mustang GT. hahaha Really impressed with it.:good: So far it is the best case I have had on any phone in the last 10 years.
I really like my green commuter. It fits well and looks pretty cool. The construction of the case seems very tight; on some past otterboxes, it's seemed a bit "stretchy" and not as formfitting right out of the box, but this one is very nicely done. My only gripe was the charger cutout was too small, but a kitchen knife and some diligence solved that problem rather quickly.

I had a similar problem with the charging port on my marine/dark blue commuter case. I didn't want to carve up the case, so I just ground the plug down a little with my dremel tool. I figured if I screwed it up I could always get another OEM charger. So far it works fine. I ground down to metal, but a quick check with Galaxy Charging Current shows that my charge values are unaffected. Is this a common problem with the Otterbox Commuter?
My first thought was that I got a fake one, but the box had the hologram sticker on top, website on back, sku sticker on bottom. The silicone lining seems firm and tight with no sagging. Most of the fake vs real videos on youtube stressed the cheap and floppy silicone lining in the fake Otterboxes. Mine seems fairly stiff and fits well.
I was originally eyeing off the commuter cases but after reading the whole screen cracking thread, I went with the defender. This is possibly the best case I've ever had on a smartphone. The plastic inside shell is fairly sturdy which I love because I carry my phone in my pocket all the time and I was worried about having torsion dmg.
P.S: I'm also looking at getting the neon blue spigen slim armor but I'm still not convinced on the sturdiness yet. I so do not want to have to go through samsung warranty for anything. ~_~
