Screen dead; Any way to mount usb? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A friend gave me their old Nexus S they dropped in water 2 years ago hoping to get some pictures off. While it still powers on, the screen is dead (tried shining a light to see if it was just the backlight, but no it's completely dead.) The digitizer, hardware and soft buttons all work.
Is there a way (adb/fastboot maybe?) to mount USB storage w/o a functioning screen?
Thanks.

Yes Adb should work.. does it have a Custom recovery on it?
Not sure if you can do it from power off.. I know you can do it if you can get it into recovery..
loads of threads on this I suppose http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1898712

Thanks. I'll give that a try.

Also, I don't know if any of those threads mentioned it, but there are clients that can mirror what the display is supposed to show on your computer over usb, namely Eclipse, which is found in the Android SDK. Since the digitizer and stuff still works, you can just correspond your finger touches accordingly

[Q] Jeeeeiiii black screen problem, any ideas what to try?

Hi,
I only got to use my sensation a guess for about 2 or 3 months, then I rooted it and everyone was really happy exspecially me . Had it like that for about 10 days, went out for a few drinks, wich turn out to be a lot of drinks. Some how I decided to take a sprint down the street on speed that peoble still talk about. But when I took my phone from my pocket the screen was all colourful and perky. I could answear but not see anything.
Took the phone apart and found out if I fumble around the flex screen cable it work, but it worked for a while and then it malfunction again. So I decided that it was the flex cable on the screen. Bought another screen from ebay, and when I was changing it, even though I was very very careful and doing everything in slow motion the flex cable on the digitazer ripped in two peices so I went again to ebay.
Got one and put it in. But I only get black screen, when I press on the screen lights up and off, and then it vibrates. The phone can connect to the pc but when I jus ddms to take a screen capture it captures a big black image.
So it might be a hardware failure but I´m a very stubburn man, so any ideas on what to do or what to try, before I will get bold?

If your phone can connect to PC , then try adb . Hope you the basics of adb.
Open an adb terminal. and type : "adb reboot recovery"
Your phone should boot into recovery. Then clear cache and dalvik cache.
Now reboot your phone.
If this does not help, then remove the sdcard and try to boot.
By the way, Are you S-OFF and rooted??
not working
It is like he has no firmware installed.
I can access him through ddms in the adb tools folder, and see all the process
that he is doing when he is in debug mode volume down plus power button pressed. But the screenshots are black.
But I can´t access him when he normal boots up?
I rooted him, with I think ICS, dont know if I did s-off or not or if it
worked.
Can I flash him with someting through adb ?

[Q] Screen will not light, help with ADB?!?

My screen will not illuminate. I believe its a hardware issue, but I'd like to verify if anyone can help. The soft keys will light up and I can hear notifications, but the screen does not light up when I press the top button or slide the keyboard open. Sometimes if I fiddle with the slider, the backscreen lights up, and if it is fully open the screen will show, but with illumination so dim its not really possible to use.
I can still feel the haptic feedback, but I'm at a loss. At first I thought this was due to flashing a rom, but I restored back to a prior one that worked well. I cannot view the screen in recovery either. I would like to mount the phone as usb storage to my computer to remove a couple of .zips on the sd card and reboot. Anyone point to or show me how to do this or any other restore/resets through adb, maybe re-install a .zip through adb? Is there a way to do this through adb, pushing files or otherwise, as I cannot see anything on my phone?
thanks
Reset
You have to factory reset the phone due to one of the roms you may have installed. Sorry

Phone screen won't come on!

I'm not sure if it's lag or what, but my phone screen won't come on. I think it's a ribbon that was disconnected or something though. For about a few hours if I were to press power to see the lock screen, all I saw where a bunch of rainbow static. Then I powered my phone on and off because nothing would work and now it's jut black! Does anyone know what's wrong? I can't boot into clockwork so I don't think it's a rom problem. Does anyone know the problem or have any idea to fix? Anyone I should ask specifically?
maybe water? even having my phone in the bathroom while i take a shower cause me that
It's not water, I never bring my phone close to place with water :/
can you boot into the screen where there are 3 droids with the skateboards? (i not sure whats the name)
I think I can boot and my phone still works, because it still rings when someone calls and it still vibrates when someone text it, but I just can't pick up or reply (because the screen won't come on). I should be able to boot into that thing, but I can't anything :/
well bro sorry i cant help you :/ maybe it could be the screen, the ribons or somethings loose. did it fell?

Seems like either broken ribbon that connects the screen to the "motherboard', or dead screen itself. That's exactly how 1 of my phones died (it was too complicated to disassemble and fix it myself)
But once I had similar problem with my TP2, the screen first become unresponsive to any touch, and then it went just black after restart (and every next restart). However all keys did work.
Hard reset somewhat helped, the screen actually came back, but it was still stuck on setting up Windows Mobile (if you know WinMo: the part where you calibrate touchscreen), apparently "touch" part of the screen didn't work.
I thought it is ribbon or screen assembly, but since all the keys worked I flashed another ROM and what do you know: all problems went away. It worked fine for as long as I had it. I never figured out what caused it/was the problem.

G2X Doesn't Power On + Additional Problems

Hi,
I had a G2X which had its LCD screen and the touchscreen digitizer broken about 8 months ago. At that time, the phone would turn on, I could see some colors and through the broken LCD screen I could see that the phone would also go to recovery (I was trying to wipe data if I wanted to sell it for parts).
Now, I tried to turn it on (after charging battery) nothing happened. I could feel the phone and the battery get hot but no screen flickering or anything.
I decided if there is something I can do or try before I just toss it out.
So obviously, I don't have a screen to see whats going on and the only indicators that phone responds is the LCD backlight coming on.
I tried to recover via : One Click ClockworkMod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847). Computer indicated everything went smooth. However screen wouldn't still show any signs of life.
I followed up by searching the forum. Found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015830, and proceeded to do what was prescribed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590523
No life in the phone once again.
I finally tried : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644 (Computer indicates it was a success, the broken LCD screen was on while the "magic" was happening, followed by 2 flashes (each lasting about 2 seconds) and then nothing. )
I tried to turn it on with battery in: nothing happens.
However when I take the battery out and plug in the USB into the computer, Press Vol- and Power simultaneously: the screen comes on for about 5 seconds then turns off, followed by a single flash of the home and menu keys.
I'm not sure if its a software issue or a hardware issue. I would like an expert opinion from people here in the forum. Should I purchase a replacement screen and a digitizer? to try and see what happens next? or should I just stop tinkering with things I dont fully understand and get rid of the device?
Thanks for any advice or comments

replace

Thank you for the response.
Do you think that would suffice? Or additional measures would be required?
Thanks once again.

Well if it were me, your going to have to open it up anyways, so pull up a disassemble tutorial video on YouTube, open it up and give everything an inspection for any physical damage.
I'd use a magnifying glass and look for any signs of hairline cracks in the motherboard.
It really does soumd like the screen finally died and that the motherboard is functioning.

[Q] Recover HTC One S internal data without USB debugging ON

Hello, I am hoping someone can help me. My wife has an HTC One S whose screen was severely cracked and damaged when she was hit by a car when crossing the street (the phone came out of her purse and was ran over). I have been trying to recover the pictures and videos that she had in the internal storage since the HTC One S does not have an SD card; however, her phone does not have USB debugging ON and it is impossible for me to enable this setting since the screen is cracked, damaged, and not visible. What are my options? your help is greatly appreciated!
Depends... Is it rooted/have custom recovery? Otherwise you'll have to blind navigate to turn debugging on.

No, the phone is not rooted nor does it have any custom recovery. I cannot blind navigate because the screen is cracked and dark and it does not seem to respond to any touch.

I have to agree with dark here. If it doesnt respond to touch theres nothing you can do.
Its like trying to control a PC without keyboard, screen or mouse. Willpower isnt enough
Oh wait, actually.. Is it running JB? In that case you can connect a mouse with an OTG cable, and blind navigate with that. It wont be easy, but its the only thing I can think of.
If it isnt running JB,,, Well... Then theres no other way.
same case with rooted htc one s and cyanogenmod

the phone is rooted and has cyanogenmod cm11 installed on it. any help please.
What about the HDMI to Micro USB cords. I cant remember what they are called.
If I recall when I hooked mine up to one I didn't have to do anything to get it to show up on the screen.
edit: of course I guess that doesn't help if you digitizer isn't responding/
Try throwing it at a wall. I usually try that at least once or twice as a last resort. It has worked many times for me.
edit: don't do that. results vary. probably not for the better.
Its 2019 is there any current method now that u can force your self into the stock ROM?
