i definitely agree but as bad as they are with their updates i will always love their phones and sense. HTC will always be my first pick.
Maybe I have stockholme syndrome.
My first and only smart phone has been the bolt. My only frame of reference beyond this is my wife's iphone4. I give it credit, it inspired me to get a smartphone. But I've never been a fan of overpriced mac products or their pretentious marketing or the sheep that swear by it.
Her phone is much smoother than mine. Hell, I had no reference to how android should be until I got a nexus 7. The nexus is smooth. My bolt is like driving down a bumpy road in a car without shocks. But, it's what I know. I like sense because it's familiar, and it's what I equate a smart phone to.
That said, I'd happily take a one X over a SGS 3 IF ONLY the X had a sd card slot, a removable battery, and hdmi out (does it have that?). I'm all about the underdog, and for a company thats much smaller than the mighty samsung, they make good stuff. But why are they dropping the ball so much. Before you know it they'll lock the bootloader and be just as toxic as motorola.

ive been with you since day 1. this device has plagued me ever since i bought it. slow update rollouts, buggy software and laggy performance making for an overall horrible experience. NEVER AGAIN HTC.....even if they do release this update on time i'm convinced to look elsewhere. samsung is looking mighty tasty!
The update in the rezound was promised by the end of July, we didn't see it till couple days into August....just because didn't see it today may get it Monday...

So I like a idiot was standing next to a pool and dropped my phone in when I pulled it out of my pocket (the phone is a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket) and needless to say, the phone is screwed. I was wondering if the SIM card is going to be dead, too? I'm going to order a Nexus 4 to replace the Skyrocket.
It definitely has a much better chance of surviving than a phone. I left a sim in my pocket once when I washed my pants and it was fine.
Also, if you want a cheap piece of crap with no support, by all means, buy the Chinese knockoff phone. If you want a premium phone with a vibrant development community and ROM updates straight from Google, stick with your Nexus 4 plan. Choice seems obvious to me

Thanks! And yeah I think I'll stick with the Nexus 4 and not the Chinese knockoff the other guy posted
I guess I have to get a new SIM anyways since the N4 takes a Micro and I think my Skyrocket used a normal sized one.
Mine did, in a similar setting. (the difference being I didn't drop it, someone else threw it into the pool.) admittedly it was a backup phone and got fried, but the sim was fine.
Just let it dry out completely at room temperature.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Guess it doesn't really matter tbh since the phone requires a micro SD and I have a normal sized one.
You can still cut your SIM and make it a micro SIM (the one the N4 needs)
There are some tutorials on youtube

Well, in theory it shouldn't, because metallic contacts of the SIM should short circuit. But it often keeps working. I drop mine in a puddle and it had no problems.
I dropped mine in a glass of beer and when i got sober, it worked just fine
Just make sure it's completely dry before testing. And don't artificially dry with hair dryer, etc. As over heating might damage.

For those of you who are wondering what kind of underwater photos the S4 Active takes, I figured I'd create a thread for myself and others with this phone to post some photos. Also I took a video underwater as well.
And I posted this in the other "main" S4 Active Thread, but I don't suggest going below the 1 meter mark with your phone as there is some evidence of water getting inside the phone below that mark. I had water get behind the back cover of my device (but not inside the protective seal) and also my microphone for phone calls was waterlogged for quite a few hours after swimming even after many attempts to blow it out.

The problem I had was with the microphone, that hole is so tiny that neither blowing or sucking really did much to get out any water that may have been inside it.

Get on eBay and look for a place called repair bowl.. they have a b and c stock ones that has a scratch that is about 1/2 inch in upper right hand.. changing screens is a piece of cake!

Ha, that's an odd statement.
OP, I struggled with the same questions as you when I had to replace the screen on my phone... and honestly I'm still not convinced I got the right version. It works, but the light pipes for the capacitive buttons don't line up, which I thought (going on memory) that that was one of the problems with using an international screen on the Evita phone.
I can understand why he would say that. Replacing the screen on this phone is a bit troublesome if you're inexperienced not to mention the 3 different screens for this phone that are really only identified by their flex cables. If you think it through and plan ahead all should be fine though.

I ended up just ordering the scratched ebay one, it didnt seem that bad and I knew it was the right one, well hopefully it was.
My phone had really bad screen burn in, asked for a replacement under warranty.
The replacement apparently had a motherboard defect, eventually not recognizing the battery and all sorts of other crazy behavior.
The second replacement has a dent in the glass (not crack), and under that dent are some black ghost images that look like crack lines. As if someone cracked their screen and Verizon never replaced the digitizer/Amoled panel, just the glass.
I'm worried this will get worse, and then Verizon will claim I did it and that it voided the warranty. So I'll send this one back too.
Let's see how many replacements I can go through before one works how I want it to. :good:
I got into the habit of taking my sealed refurbished phones with me to my bored Verizon corporate store and opening them with the manager. We both got some laughs at the utter crap they send out. I never wanted blamed for their mess.

You can of course ask to recive a new and not a refurbished one. I had an issue with the charge port not accepting the cords so I called they sent a refurbished with the same issue so I called again and asked for a new phone not a refurbished as I already had issues, and they sent me a brand new one. It never hurts to ask.

I agree, at this point I would pretty much demand a new phone after you've already received 2 bad refurbs.
I got some horrible replacements sent to me when I had a Galaxy Nexus...I think 5 altogether (I then demanded to be sent an s3, and they actually agreed). I even had a replacement s3 sent to me that lasted for all of two hours before the backlight died. I never got a new phone sent to even though I asked multiple times... But you never know until you ask.

I wish I would have done this! I received the third replacement today, and it's "STA" date on the back is 1/11/2014.
Unfortunately it has 4.3 already installed on it. So only possibly root for me.
I thought it would be new because of that date, but I did a screen test, and it still isn't a new phone, there are dark artifacts. Testing everything out right now to make sure its ok.
after the third swap theyll give you a diffrent phone if you ask
So do you think that any replacement phone that is sent out from now on will already have 4.3 stock on it? Yikes!
