go to system settings--> about phone, and check the kernel version. most of the roms here r for kernel 3.0.8

Kexec is a separate kernel itself. It loads up just after the existing kernel on your device has loaded up and then takes over. That whitish/coloured flash you get while booting is the kexec loading up.
So for kexec doesn't really matter which kernel you're on.

I've been a Kexec reject before. I got the black screen with green LED. I was installing other roms on BMM and tried to reboot into primary rom. Kexec reject black screen started popping up! To fix this, I removed the micro-sd card and tried my other micro-sd card. Booted into primary system on first attempt. :victory:

Good to hear that you have got kexec booting your phone, are you on AT&T?
Just a clarification; what do mean by other micro-sd card? Do you mean speed, size

Yes on AT&T and different SD card as in a whole different SD card. I have 2 SD cards 4gb and 2gb. Don't think size or speed affects anything.

Ok, in that case it sounds like you're unlocked (maybe through HTC) but not S-OFF.
If that's the case you just need to push the boot.img from the rom you're installing through fastboot.
I can post a quick walkthrough on this if you need.

Can we install CM10 without kexec now?

The kexec and the recovery+boot method was ingenious, but does this mean we can boot custom kernels from the /boot partition now? I was a little worried about trying kexec, and it was holding me back, but will we be able to flash CM10 and boot normally now? Does anyone have the instructions and the files needed, or can point me to where the instructions are?
I've heard so many good things about CM rooms I'm very excited to finally try it on my recently NORMAL (referring to it bein like the ones on all the other carriers) SGS3 very soon.
Thanks

yes, unlock bootloader and flash the non-kexec cm10 nightly!
Once the ROMs are updated for non-kexec, yes. There's a test nightly build for CM10 out now without kexec.
Yeah I would hold off until you get the go ahead from the CM team. Just my opinion though.

[Q] Beastmode v4, how would I flash?

I have been reading multiple threads/posts about the Beastmode v4 kernel. Yet, I am still a little bit confused. I had planned on trying to flash v3 this morning and then I saw v4 got released, so I decided to read up on it. I have it downloaded and waiting along with the cam fix just in case cam doesn't work.
Just curious on what I needed to do? I've read about a lot of bootloops happening because of over clock and under clock issues. I'd really like to try and flash this first time with out getting hung or stuck in a bootloop. I've read the entire http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1959395&page=4 thread. However, v4 doesn't have a boot.img file in the .zip.
What do?
Also wanted to look at changing my radio to the 2.41 version on the ViperXL thread. If anyone has any links so I can read up on this, please post.

I do need the cam fix, planned on flashing when I got Beastmode v4 installed.
As for the boot.img, the kernel .zip doesn't have one. With this kernel, it makes it in the Aroma installer.

Yeah, in one of the folders it has a file "abootimg". Which is where the Aroma installer makes the boot.img.

Mine seemed to work fine. It hung at 10% for what seemed like forever, then finally finished. Booted into Viper and checked the clockspeed in the tweaks app. I was able to move the max speed up to what I had selected in Aroma (1.8). Sweep2wake works too.
Maybe I need to factory reset then install viper again then the kernel?

Custom kernel.?

I saw this post by wang on 591fan
It seems like he has ported a custom kernel and is developing cm10.1 on it.
Thats a good news. We can finally have a stable version of cm
http://www.591fan.com/thread-41545-1-1.html
Looks good if it sorts out the bugs on cm10, id be more than happy !
And what he says in that? I don't understand nothing. Not even using the translator
Even i didnt get what he said.. read the comments and people are exclaiming about a new kernel.. 'sofa and front row' support from me too if its true
I am guessing kexec support has finally come to wang's cm10.1 version. That or he is using 2nd init to load it. This is not a true unlocked BL kernel... just for his cm10.1 only, you will most likely not be able to use it with other roms, unless it a cm based one, that say altered could stuff into his PA versions or something.
The real issue will be battery life and RAM usage, because with kexec and 2nd init, you load the stock kernel then unload that and load the "custom one" so there is still some ram holding some of the "old/stock kernel" all the time.
And cand somebody talk to him? Or at least tell him that we are wondering what he do
Just give it some time you will find out exactly what is going on.....
This sounds complex...so thats why cm10.1 is dead at the moment..bootloader being locked down..i thought a custom kernel wasnt possible.

You can not use BMM to flash this, even with the patch.
YOU MUST use either safestrap, which can boot kexec ROMS, but most likely this will barf since wang has CWM build into his roms with 2nd init, so....
You will HAVE to flash this with bootstrap and it will be your only ROM. I have read that others are having issues getting it to boot at all right now, so my guess is that this is still not ready for prime time yet, go check out the dev thread about the cm10.1 ROM, that hankbizzo5 posted, it talks about everyone bootlooping who has tried this, so far.

it should work just fine with bmm.. of course as long as kexec files are in the right place.. download is almost completed.. will check now..
And considering how things are going, looks like you will have to get back your ATRIX 2 now ..
EDIT: As expected, kexec files are in/system/bootmenu/2nd-boot. Moved to the right place and tried with bmm.. well, once the modules are loaded and kexec executed, bmm loses where the system files are.. but then again, whirleyes says 2nd boot is WIP.. so no option as of now.. I will try editing the ramdisk tomorrow.. hope things work.. now off to installing by bootstrap..

Sorry, but this should NOT work with BMM.... BMM has its own way of handling the boot of the ROM. Wang has CWM built in with 2nd init, even using the patch with the 2nd init and kexec, this should NOT work. It is MUCH safer NOT to use BMM.
There are reasons BMM was made, and the way that CWM being embedded in the ROM with kexec, makes this much more complex, than just the standard boot with your stock kernel, no matter how kexec was implemented.
Yeah I really do not want my A2 back, sorry guys. The whole moto thing left a real bad taste in my mouth, besides working on Ubuntu phone is way more my style anyhow. I am only in here, since it looks like most have bailed. It looks like there are really only 2 devs still left, so I am kind of slowly stepping away. I am still doing some work on the back side, just do not want to do the day to day with it anymore.
Please, look into kexec and how BMM does that pass off, as well as the way that wang has it implemented into the ROM, and where he does the kernel switch off, all of those things matter. It specifically says on 591fan that bootstrap is the ONLY way to do this right now, there are several reasons behind this. BMM is mentioned but not recommended.

[Q] Want to upgrade to latest Jellybean?

Hi,
I am new to this, my infuse is running stock everything. Firmware 2.3.6, build number: Gingerbread UCKL2.
I would like to upgrade to the latest Jellybean version. I tried to read all tutorials but cant make heads or tails. I was hoping someone could walk me through it all step by step. maybe by messenger or email?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Okay, first you need to get yourself a cwm recovery.
To do that, flash Entropy's dd kernel.
Qkster has a heimdall one-click which you can use to flash it in download mode.
You will probably also need the GB bootloaders. Qkster also has one for that.
Now you just flash ICS, then a JB rom and you should be done.
There's a guide on my signature which explains all this step by step, with links and everything. I suggest you take a look at it.

OK, after following the "[GUIDE] How to flash JB " on andros11 signature, on the install I) GB to ICS, I used method B. After step 2 in method B, when do I do step 3? It is sitting at title screen that shows, "Galaxy S cyanogen(mod). I did the step 3 then and selected boot recovery, and it just stays on the "Galaxy S cyanogen(mod)" screen. Is it frozen? What did I do wrong?

So how long is it suppose to hang like that? Minutes, hour?
Also when in recovery it say on bottom of screen(log I guess) cache couldn't mount?
It hangs because you now have an ICS kernel with a GB system, so it won't boot.
If you do the 3-finger combo correctly it should boot to the recovery. Now you just need to flash a JB Rom and the corresponding gapps
Hi all,
I had a rooted GB 2.3.6 done with the Odin method here and I just upgraded to ICS and CM9 via the Entropy and everything worked ok, including making phone calls.
Then I went ahead and installed SlimBean 3.0/SlimGapps and I seem to be unable to make phone calls because it says Broadband version: Unknown. I'm now on JB 4.2.2 on SGH-1997
I am on Samsung Infuse 4G with ATT and I am not sure how to restore my mobile radio network. Can someone help me how to restore my phone calling feature and HSPA+ data network? Do I need to flash something?
Thanks,
Fanirama, try flashing cm10. That usually restores the IMEI.
Then flash back to slim and hopefully you'll be good

Great! That did the trick... I flashed CM10.1 and IMEI is back along with everything else.
Maybe I'll stick with CM10 for sometime and see how it goes. I kinda preferred Slimrom from what I saw of it - it was very zippy, very polished with very few bugs from limited testing I did on main features.
Sadly in all this fiasco, I lost all my contacts which is a major bummer. Hopefully Titanium Backup which I did kept my contacts.
Thank you very much for your help. I was planning on flashing Carbon next but I think CM was a better suggestion.
Can I upgrade my wifes Samsung i897(captivate) with the same stuff as I did with Infuse. Is it upgradable to JB?
Nope.. You'll want to visit the captivate forums to see what is available. Many good devs over there.
