[Q] MMS stuck on downloading but never downloads until a reboot - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Didn't find anything helpful in the searches so...
Sometimes when getting a bunch of group texts or any MMS in a spotty data signal area one or two messages will never come through. On GoSMS there is no button to press to download and on the stock app it shows downloading with the animated bar but it never downloads. Rebooting the phone will seemingly reset the download and the button to press to download it will then appear. I prefer to not lose 5% battery from the media scan on a reboot just so I can get a group text or an MMS picture. So is there any other way around it other than rebooting?

I had that problem with the stock app. In the Messenger settings I turned off auto retrieve. I then get a download button and it works. For whatever reason with auto retrieve on it never downloads. Don't know if that's the same issue.

That will typically work, but then requires me to go in and click the download button every time. When you're in a group text that means backing out of it and opening up the individual's message thread every time someone replies to click download. Not really a good solution either. I'd say 95% of the time the messages download on auto for me. Any other ideas?

On most ROMS, you need to have Wifi off and 4g/3g on to download. That's why I don't use auto retrieve, so I can turn Wifi off and data on before I download

Ah that makes a lot of sense now. I am probably on WiFi most of my day so explains why auto retrieve never worked for me.
Thanks

I'm the opposite. About the only time I ever have Wi-Fi on is when I'm in Canada. I still have unlimited data on and 4G is much faster than my regular internet at home.

Mms over wifi is flaky on some roms from my experience. Works fine for me on roms that stay closer to stock. You shouldn't have to disable wifi to receive or send mms messages if things are working properly.

So no one knows a way to reset the download without restarting the phone?

Use a task killer (I know they suck, but just use it for this one thing) to kill the process and it should reset the download

I tried that via rom toolbox and it didn't seem to have any effect. Maybe I killed the wrong process though. Which is it for an mms download?

Market won't download

Suddenly I am unable to download from the market. When I tap install it just says downloading but won't progress past that. Anyone gave a similar problem or any suggestions for fixing?
Thanks.
P.s. I've tried using wifi and 3g both

can you download from the market before this?
i have same prob b4 but then its okay i think it is just because the connection.
try first to log into your google account somewhere in other app (gmail, gtalk. etc) then try market.
also try to connect using diff wifi sources you can find around you
I get this sometimes and I usually just turn my phone off and use google maps google voice and it works.
How weird...... just tried it myself and it's refusing to show my Downloads page.
Keeps saying a server error has occurred.

MMS Images Will Not Send

Hi all, I have a recurring issue with sending MMS images with the stock messaging app on my G2x running CM7 stable. Sometimes, but not every time, when I hit send, the gray notifier box shows up, saying "Currently unable to send your message. It will be sent when the service becomes available." This has happened even when I have service. Regardless, the box persists. Even when I can clearly see that I have bars, the box simply won't go away. The message refuses to send, and usually I can't even delete it. No matter what I do, the box stays, so I have to reboot every time I have this problem. Any ideas? I've done a good bit of searching and haven't yet found anyone with the same problem. Help would be greatly appreciated!

I occasionally have the same problem and the only thing I've found that helps are multiple hard reboots. Eventually the mms image will send and all will be well untill the next time it happens again...then more hard reboots.
I have a similar issue on CM7, try turning airplane mode on then off and then sending. Also, I use Handcent, not stock mms.apk.

I recommend backing up your apps with titaniumbackup and do a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe and flash the newest nightly version of cm7

Sometimes for similar issues, deleting telephony.db in something like data/providers/??telephony had helped me in the past. (And reboot)

I find that this problem persists even when I'm not using the stock mms.apk...for example, I've also used go sms pro and still have the same result which requires a reboot
Hmm, if you have tried airplane mode, I don't know what to say. For me, it seems to be connected with hitting areas of no reception. I may have a perfect connection, but something thinks I don't. What I mean is, for example I will launch Browser, say from Xda, and browser will give me a message telling me I have no connection (when I do) but still function. I think what ever causes browser to 'think' I have no connection is related to the mms issue. It's also apparent in an app called Clock Sync (which I use to keep my phone on a stable time, versus assuming the network will provide accurate time) and this app won't pull up the info from the time server and allow me to synch.

I don't know who your carrier is, but if your apn is split into two parts, one for accessing the internet and one for sending mms, then try this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484489, I posted it a while back and mms works perfectly for me, of course the only downside is that you have to manually switch apns depending on what you want to use your data for.
Good luck
I get that error message here and there... I learned to live with it... What you should do is after sending mms and that message appears; long hold that picture you're trying to send and select edit; this will bring that picture back to your text box... From there, like everyone said, airplane mode off then on... Then try sending it again... If that fails... Go to setting, applications, development and select long hold back button to kill app... So when that message appears and you want to get rid of it... Long hold back and it will kill that mms process...

I just wanted to say thank you all for your input. You've been very helpful gents.

Newbie and I swear I'm hacked

I have had this phone fur a year and I know I'm hacked. Apps open by themselves and I always have high data usage. I took a few screen shots that I thought might be helpful? Haha please help!!!!
I highly doubt you're hacked. I see you have the Facebook app installed; that's known to drain your battery. Have you gone into its settings to make sure it's not set to auto-refresh at high intervals? I think the default is every 15 minutes. What about Google+? Is it set to automatically upload your photos and videos? And finally, I see you're on Sprint, which has LTE almost nowhere. Is your LTE set to on?
Bro.. why not try a full wipe 'coz if your phone is infected your privacy is exposed lol
Facebook app is installed yet auto sync is disabled. I keep having apps download on their own yet I disabled auto update. Not to mention my location services are jacked up

Are you using Google Now? That's known to destroy battery life by at least 30% (its been tested). Turn that off. It keeps your location services running 24/7.
Worst case, I'm not sure if your device is rooted or not (it doesn't matter), but try and wipe it and "start over" if you can. Make sure your contacts are synced with Google, and if your photos are on your internal storage, move them to your computer or your SD card. Then go into Settings -> Security -> Factory Reset.
Can u explain these?

It looks like logcat is logging signal strenght of your 3g, and your mail app is checking for new mails.
It might be your voicemail app... Unless you changed the icon that isn't stock TW. But yeah definitely just do a factory reset or Odin back to stock...

Nah, that's the Sprint Voicemail app's logo.

Ridiculously slow Google Play downloads..

While on Verizon FiOS WiFi, downloads are unacceptably slow. 7 mins for 150 KB download??? Take off WiFi and 4g speeds are fine. Anyone know a fix for this?? Its been off and on for a long time

try to disable such email, gmail, chaton, talk or any default application that uses internet
you can disable them by looking at settings/application then select all tab. open the application you wnat to disable then press disable. it wont open again even if you restart your phone.
Activated google+ picture uploads maybe?
I wondered too why downloading on 3G was faster than with wifi, forgot that my pictures had been uploaded in the background during wifi-connection
I had to wipe data of everything related to Google play

[Q]Connections Optimizer and Flash Player Update

Yesterday the Connection Optimizer started popping up an error box about every minute or so about needing to update the version of Adobe Flash on my phone to prevent malware. It then takes me to Adobe's site to download a new version, which of course, does not exist. I never even installed Flash on this device and not sure what the Connection Optimizer has to do with Flash/Security anyways. Either way, it is annoying because it just keeps popping up at random.
At first I thought it might be something with Dolphin Browser and having Flash enabled. I even tried installing the latest version of Flash that is modded (here on XDA) for use with 4.4 to see if that would fix it. It didn't. So I uninstalled Flash player and disabled it in Dolphin Browser and the prompt still pops up.
Anyone else run into this issue?
Just want to chime back in and add that a co-worker of mine is having the same issue on his S5. Seems to happen when device switches to Wifi.

Just turn off connection optimizer
All it does is switch you to Wi-Fi automatically every once in a while
Its a waste of battery imi

I get your point and that is what I have done. However, I do feel that if it is a feature on the device and is not working there should be a fix for it instead of just turning it off. Wondering why (2) of our S5 devices are having the issue but yet doesn't seem anyone else is, or at least not speaking up about it. Called Sprint and they have nothing on record of it being mentioned by others. As I'm still in my "trial" period with the device I want to make sure all sensors and features work as they should.
