I just bought a BRAND NEW TF700 dock from Office Depot in the hopes that it would be one of the original re-labeled TF201 docks.
Sure enough, it was!!
If you're looking for the original TF201 docks with the BIGGER BATTERY, try Office Depot. If it doesn't work out, you can always return it as long as you do not open the package.
Here's what you're looking for on the outside of the box:

On the inside will be the TF201 dock with:
all aluminum chassis instead of plastic (model AD01)
bigger battery
it also comes with a rubber USB port cover which the new TF700 updated model AD01 does not come with
it has stamp-engraved port labels instead of painted on labels (model AD01)
tilt and balance issues of the TF201 dock are highly exaggerated. This is a friggin keyboard dock, not a SUV. Even if it does tilt (which it doesn't), what's so hard about catching it with your finger? Not like you're gonna roll over 3 times and die from it
Do not try Walmart, I already did and their TF700 docks are the AD01 models.
Office Depot seems to be one of the few remaining places still carrying brand new re-labeled TF201 docks.
I got mine for:
$150
- $25 off $100 Staples coupon I bought from Ebay for $7.50 which they honored (YMMV)
==========
$132.50

Which is an awesome deal considering what these are going for used and refurbished on Ebay!
Good luck!
There is a reason that Office Depot still has them - it's because their return policy is absolutely horrible! Once you open that package, you cannot return the device, period (other than an exchange for the same model). So, say you get home and find you don't like the keyboard dock - too bad - you are stuck with it!
I will never shop @ Office Depot again since I found this out - I have a feeling that a lot of others are doing the same. It's absolutely ridiculous that you can't return an item!
Just a heads up!

Really? If we're talking about the same Staples Office Centre, then they are one of the most reliable electronic shops in the Netherlands....
As for them not re-excepting an opened box makes complete sense: at least you can be sure you're not silently being sold someone else's rubbish. Sound like a good thing to me. What you really do not want to know is how many stores sell you the crap other people return.
And since you can't trust people to be honest when they return a device, I quite like this policy.
Send From My Samsung Galaxy S3 Using Tapatalk 2
So you are OK with never being able to return something because you found that you didn't like it after spending some time with it? When I'm spending the kind of $$$ that these devices cost, I'll be damned if I don't have the option to return something if I end up finding that the device doesn't meet my needs after all - or doesn't work as expected. Hell - the TF700 is a perfect example - if I decided that I didn't want to unlock and root my device, I may have returned the device due to the poor stock OS performance. But not at Office Depot - you would be stuck with it!
In the US, Office Depot is the *only* retailer that I am aware of that doesn't allow returns. I've never had problems with buying items that someone returned - in the US, items like this are clearly marked as "open box" items - if they are resold at all.
But anyway, to each their own - I just thought that I'd warn folks, because (at least in the US) Office Depot is the only retailer that I know of that has this terrible return policy - and most people aren't aware of it - it's not something that Office Depot likes to advertise!
Typically, I'll do as much research as possible on a product, but there is nothing like using a product in your home for extended periods of time in order to make sure it is going to fit your needs or to make sure that the product works as described - the ability to return something in this type of situation is absolutely essential in my opinion, especially when we are talking about expensive electronics. And really, since other retailers in the US do price matching, there is usually no reason to ever shop @ Office Depot since other retailers will price match them anyway (obviously, in this case, you are trying to get something that Best Buy may not have though).

I suspect the diffierence lies in that we have NEVER been able to return a device if the box has been opened, let alone if the device has been used, for however briefly.
That's the basic European policy. Opening the box kills your return right on electronic devices. (With the exception of a factory defect, which falls under the warranty.) We've never known differently. So yes, I am ok with it.

We're simply not used to anything else. We buy our stuff differently, it's a whole different mentality. Wether or not the need to think really hard twice about what you buy is a good thing we'll leave undecided.
EU Directive 1999/44/EC states that all EU members must give their customers a default minimum warranty of 2 years. (And no, Apple still does not honor this. But if you have a yearly revenue of $156.5 Billion, what's a laughable 2 million euro fine. ) Most companies offer three years, with some offering 10 (Canon) and some offering Lifetime. (Sinner, North Face (no tech ones as far as I know, though.))

I was wondering, with the edges being a bit "sharper" is it comfortable to hold for long periods of time, especially on a couch or lying down face up? I was wondering what your experiences are with this thing, especially holding it above one's head (if facing ceiling). I currently have the Galaxy Tab (the original, not 10.1), if that helps any. Either this or a Xoom...
Feels fine to me..no more uncomfortable than a book..
Comfort
I use the transformer for reading a fair amount of the time. You can either lie on your side or on your back and support your elbows on the mattress or whatever. If you have a case you can flip it and sit it on a table.
Hope this helps.
The edges, while blunt and thin, don't feel very "sharp" in the slightest bit.
The curvature of the back of the Transformer provides Siemens ergonomic function.
Holding the Transformer for long periods of time is comfortable and should not bring any complaints.

Don't buy Asus. Their customer support is a joke. Their software is released before proper testing. The wide form factor prevents you from using any 10.1 standard sleeves or cases. Hadn't I stupidly cracked the (unbreakable?)Gorilla glass, my tf would be owned by someone else.
If you insist on confronting Asus , buy the prime. It's amped up with a quad core tegra 3, it's much lighter and last but not least ICS runs without randomly rebooting every time the slate enters deep sleep.
Sorry for not being positive enough. I will never buy Asus ever again. OK maybe a motherboard but nothing else
Meh, I don't really care about customer support to be honest. I've learned to be my own customer support. The software issues, we got this forum for that. It's all good.

Why you so angry; sun?
Sorry I just saw the pic today and wanted to use it soOOooo badly.
I find the transformer quite comfortable, and with a case like the VIPERTEK Slim Leather Case Folio with Built-In Stand that I have, its even more so.
The edges are actually beveled, so its not as sharp as it might look. I read with it all the time and have no issues with holding it in portrait for extended periods of time. In landscape though the widescreen form factor makes it feel a bit clumsy, so holding it like that above your head while lying down in bed might be awkward.

You should thank your lucky stars you didn't buy a Lenovo K1 or Acer Iconia 500 instead. I've had issues with their support on both of those products. The Acer's screen went black after a couple of weeks of use, and Acer would not even reply to my support request in any reasonable time. Good thing it was still within return policy, so I just returned it instead. The Lenovo K1 bricked on any firmware update that touched recovery, a widespread problem for an unlucky group of more recent K1 owners across the web, but that problem is still unacknowledged to this day by Lenovo. The firmware the K1 came preinstalled with was buggy as heck and most of those problems were not resolved until an update in December. Even then, the K1 has a sleep of death issue involving the auto-brightness control since day one. Lenovo has not fixed it to this day and again doesn't even acknowledge it. Now there are grumblings in the Lenovo support forums that Lenovo is canceling any ICS update for the K1, after an ICS update had reportedly been mentioned previously by Lenovo for May and had been advertised on the product page of their online shop.
ASUS was the first to get ICS out the door for their tablets and left a few bugs, which they are working to fix. Big deal. Believe me when I say it can be alot worse.

The prime sucks, WiFi and GPS issues, and Asus customer support is fine. Don't listen to this guy.
The mere fact that he thinks gorilla glass is unbreakable shows he doesn't have a clue what he is talking about.. and had his expectations way higher than reasonable.

I got one from Adorama last night for $430 - 3% back from mrrebates, so that's a total of like $418 or something. I'm hoping it doesn't drop too much on BF since I was too impatient
That's awesome. Thanks for the heads up. I've been watching this one for a bit and it's gone up and down around $470 for awhile. Going to grab one while they're at this price point though. I can't foresee them dropping anymore though at least for the time being.

Here's a list of all the Black Friday tablet "deals" from SlickDeals.net. It's updated regularly. So far, only the TF300's shown up at $279 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB.
http://slickdeals.net/blackfriday/category/tablets-ereaders/9489
Good grief, I wish the price would go that low here. It's still 700 euros. (In true Dutch tradition, the shops will only sell the most expensive variant, for at least double the US price.)
I wish they didn't implement tax for California otherwise I would've jumped on that deal.

You can now buy a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 10.1 in the UK for £183 (233 with 50 rebate from Sammy)
Although the Tab2 is inferior to our brilliant TF700s in several ways... that's a phenomenal price difference.
Then you've got the new Kindle and Nexus 7 at similar low prices. Could be the start of a price war on Android tablets?

Anything in the lower $400's is a good price. I still have no qualms about having paid $500 for it months ago. If you're always looking at the price and getting angry when prices go down, you'll always be angry. Everyone knows that prices will continually drop for electronics.
Newegg has the TF700 for $429 now as well, plus you can get an extra $20 off if you get the keyboard dock at the same time.

Really?
Good to know.
Was that what you were asking?...or did you lose a little?
That's Technology For Ya
Ya, that's technology for ya. Nexus 10 sold out today in supposedly 24 min (who knows how many were available.) Google did so well on Nexus 7, they really are on a roll to build a brand although it will be a while before they can get people to pay $600 for a tablet or $1000 for a phone (without contact.) And the funny thing is, the TF700 is overall supposedly the better device!
I know this is preaching to the choir on this thread but is ceases to surprise me these days how obsessed people are with owning "the latest"
From Engadget review:
"In fact, other than a relative lack of resolution (1,920 x 1,200 vs. this guy's 2,560 x 1,600) the Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 is, we think, an overall better package. It's thinner, lighter, faster, has a much better camera, offers better battery life (particularly if you opt for the keyboard dock) and, frankly, we'd take the brightness and contrast of that 600 nit, Super IPS+ panel over this one with its extra pixels."
Nowadays, 3-6 months is "old news" for a device, so it shouldn't be surprising the price dropped. This is all pre-Black Friday positioning.
I was flabbergasted I was watching people pay low $200's for used Nexus 7 16GB on Ebay last week when you could buy a brand new one for $199 because so many meat heads assume Ebay is the place to get "the deal."
Same thing for iPad. iPad 3 Refurb straight from Apple store with one year warranty. $379 a couple weeks ago. Auctions closing left and right for $420-$440 for used from private seller! Insane. I think instead of selling lemonade this summer I'm just going to teach my kids how to make themselves $20 or $30 a pop on the "idiot spread" - well idiot is a bit strong, let's call them, "less informed shoppers."
I agree with one poster here, TF700 should be $399 considering it's been around a while and what's hitting the streets right now, but $428 ain't bad.

I was able to pick up my TF700 for $298 from Amazon's Warehouse Deals. I bought it used, but it had scratches all over the back cover which wasn't stated in the condition description. I was given a partial refund which took the price down to $298. No regrets here.

neither i just don't think this tablets worth that much considering all of the supposed issues that most users have and ASUS' unreliable QC according to most users for this particular products. I love ASUS and have their black diamond router + their 26 inch monitor with component input(discontinued), but i wouldn't drop 500~ on a sketchy product. besides at this point i'd rather wait for a decent W8 tablet to come out, which can do way more with the desktop environment than an android or iOS tablet ever could.
Review is up! Click here
*Just a foreword...I am not saying that this QI charger is better (or worse) than the Orb. This is not a comparison of any sort. Rather, I'm raising attention for this charger for those unable to get the Orb (pretty much everyone outside the US) and/or those who personally do not like the Orb. With that said, let me give you my thoughts*
Right, so I stumbled upon this very good looking QI charger for the Nexus 4, and I think it deserves a thread of its own.
Clicky here to see the product. You will find high quality pics/renders in the listing.
For a start, it looks miles better than those unsightly large ones being sold by fasttech, and the plasticky (is that a word?) "small" ones. This charger looks truly compact and I love the aluminium finish. The charging light is also well placed and not obtrusive. IMO, a beautiful device like the Nexus 4 should be used with equally beautiful hardware.
Another bonus is that this charger is actually from a reputable brand (at least in China) called Metrans. Again, I find this to be a more promising sign of quality than what the unbranded ones have to show for.
My point being, if for whatever reason you cannot or do not want to buy the Orb (I live in the UK and personally prefer to place my gadgets flat), this charger may be worth considering. I certainly think its worth buying over the massive ones sold by the likes of Energizer.
At $59, it's by no means cheap but I think its a double edged sword. Quality is usually proportional to price (Apple being the exception)
Unfortunately this seems to be a brand new product so I was unable to find any reviews. I have taken the leap however and bought one so I will update you all once it arrives. I expect it to arrive in about a week, so keep an eye on this thread if you're interested

My purchases from China usually arrive in a week
Also I did say this was for those not interested/unable to buy the Orb. It's a mixture of both for me

Yh I noticed that as well, but I guess all sellers have to start with zero feedback right?
Anyway I sent him an email and it appears that the first few chargers (i.e. mine) are being sent from China but inventory will be made available in the UK in a few days.
P.S You can also buy the charger from here. Appears to be a Chinese marketplace for foreigners (like fasttech, dealextreme, etc). However the price is the same.

Quite the opposite for me, I prefer it to be flat, won't have to worry about the slippage issue some people are complaining about.
Also yh, this already wins in the looks department but hopefully my review will show that it functions just as well
I like the design. But being almost identical to the orb's pricing makes it hard for US-based buyers to justify the purchase.
I'll hold off from buying the orb for now and wait for your review.
The ebay seller is a lying sob. He claims he's a EBAY TOP RATED SELLER.
To become such a seller you need to, and I quote "Have at least 100 transactions and $1,000 in sales with US buyers over the most recent 12-month period." and "Have an eBay account that's been active for at least 90 days"
See all requirements here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/top-rated.html

Wow, calling him a "sob" seems a bit harsh. He has a small image at the very bottom of the listing saying "eBay Top Rated Seller", that could have easily come as part of the template for the listing. Anyone can see his seller rating so it would be very hard to mislead anyone.

it's not part of a template, it's something he intentionally added to his listing. You should be cautious with ebay sellers from china with low feedback like this and claiming that he is a top rated seller just shows the seller might be dishonest about other things in his listing. Not saying you wont get what you ordered but who knows what the quality will be like until you can review it. Ebay can be pretty sketchy esp. sellers from china imo, i wish they would add a review feature like amazon.

It kills me to admit that my brand new $ 1200 surface pro has some light bleeding around the botton right and right areas of the screen.
Ive looked it up a but and it seems that this was an earlier issue so I actually didnt think there would be a chance I would end up facing this problem. I havent seen any complaints throughout may-june.

Second one is with lights out, black image on full screen.
They are both with brightness at 100%, but it really doesnt make that much differene if it's set to 50%.
What do you guys think? I shouldnt be expecting those right? I know that people had much worse bleeds once, but that was before.
I also dont want to keep exchanging till I get a good one, that's too much of a hassle. So if you tell me that all of them are probably be the same I wont exchange.
It bugs me that such an expensive device would present this kind of irritating and ugly problem after 6 months in production.
Warranty claim. Your entitled so why not :/
The thing is im visiting canada right now, and thats where I bought it. The store is called future shop.
Im still within the 14 return/exchange period.
And now im seriously thinking whether I should return it for good, keep mine or get it replaced, hoping the new one would be free from defects.
Get it replaced under warranty. At FutureShop, ideally, but any Microsoft store should replace it no trouble. That's definitely a defect; the backlights shouldn't be *visible* in that way at all.

But what if the next one is the same or even worse? Isnt it likely that he whole batch sent to the sae store would have the same production issues?
Test it before you take it home, get a refund if they can't provide a non-defective model? Leaving aside the fact that it's highly unlikely that an entire production run has a visually obvious defect, this is Consumer Electronics 101. Hell, it's Being A Customer 101. If somebody sold you a defective toaster, you'd take it back under warranty. If somebody sold you a defective Ferrari, you'd take it back under warranty.
I agree. Keep asking for one till you get one that satisfies you. You paid for it, so you deserve to get a fully functional product.

Thanks guys. You encouraged me. The thing is Im aware how most stores behave when such things happen. They will start to make things difficult, creating excuses and so on and on. I hate that.
Also, could you give me some ideas on how to test it for light bleeding in a bright lit store?

request to take it to a storage cupboard?
Here in the UK if a shop starts being awkward normally just just whip your phone out, make it highly obvious that your searching for the trading standards number, perhaps going as far as almost pressing the dial button and then they'll usually give in but from what I hear the US equivalent of trading standards are useless so shops might ignore the same threat.

You're right. That's why I always buy from stores that have great customer service. Microsoft store and apple store at good examples. They just replace it till you're happy
I've had issues like this with my ipad back when I had it. Its not normal and you shouldnt have any trouble getting it replaced if you take it into the shop again. They should know about these things.
Does the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 normally ship with a Simple Book Cover included?
Just received my new 10.5 or almost got it. The USPS delivered it today and I opened the shipping box only to find out that the Tab S box had been tampered with! One corner has a seal that says, "DO NOT ACCEPT IF SEAL IS BROKEN." Well, how am I supposed to not accept this item if the carrier has already left. Anyway, the box has definitely been opened so I wasn't going to go any further until I notified the vendor. I had to email the vendor since they weren't open on Saturday.
Just of of curiosity, I did open the box further and noticed that the tablet had been re-wrapped in a bag about twice its size. Also, under the tablet separated by a cardboard piece was a Simple Book Cover. Looking further, I noticed the power plug appears to have been used as well as the power cord. There was also no literature of any kind.
Learned a lesson. I usually buy from Amazon or Best Buy. I didn't this time, but I will in the future. They at least have a decent customer service always available.
Who did you purchase from? If it was an eBay seller they are frequently open box items.

Actually ordered this ordered through Newegg but they apparently farmed it out to some vendor who I shall not name until he has a chance to fix this problem.
This box and the tablet has definitely been messed with so I'm not messing with it until I know it's not a refurbished or used unit. It's also missing some literatures. I can't properly resell it at a later date with stuff missing.

@Guardsix it's doesn't come with any cases/ covers whatsoever. Did you check to make sure the tablet itself didn't have any issues, physical or otherwise?

Look at the corner of the first pic. It clearly shows a insert of the Simple Book Cover. It says, "Simple Book Cover Included".
No, I haven't messed with the tablet itself. It's not even wrapped correctly. Most of these things come in a plastic warp with the opening on the back. You lift up the opening and then slide out the tablet. On this one, the seal is on the front and it's definitely been open at least once. I'm not touching the tablet until the vendor says he's sending me a new one.
Here's some pics in the attachments.
the 1 i bought from costco came with a simple cover and the box looks just like yours.
My box didn't have that on it, so maybe it was a special promotion at a specific store.

Many times some listing may say "damaged box" or "damaged packaging", at which rate you are buying "as is."
Was/is there a return policy?

The thing about the return policy is that this was purchased through Newgg but they farmed it out to a place called "Eectronic Deals". That apparently is one of their "Marketplace" vendors. Still, Newegg's policy is supposed to be the fallback if the marketplace vendor doesn't honor any part of the sale.
I looked up this "Electronic Deals" and can't find any web site or any information about them at all. I have an address in Brooklyn, NY, but that's it. I'm assuming they are reputable. They have sent me information on how to return this item at their expense. I've asked for an exchange because I really want this package with the Simple Book Cover included.
So, now I'm just waiting for them to acknowledge the return and then send me out a replacement. We'll see how long that takes.
It's important to note that there is a difference between the Simple Cover and the Book Cover.
The Simple Cover is designed to protect the tablet's screen, and snaps securely to the back of the device. Reference Samsung part EF-DT800BSEGUJ (10.5", Titanium Bronze). Link - Samsung Website
The Book Cover is designed to protect both the screen and back of the tablet; it also snaps securely to the back of the device. The Book Cover converts into a stand, allowing for multiple viewing/usability angles. Reference Samsung part EF-BT800BSEGUJ (10.5", Titanium Bronze). Link - Samsung Website
Uh, if I'm paying $450+ for a tablet, I would certainly know the difference between these two covers! What was/ is your point?

My "point" is that you keep referring to it as as a "Simple Book Cover"; either you got the Simple Cover, or you got the Book Cover. They are two completely different products.
Ok, I got it now. My bad. Simple Cover it is! Thanks for clarifying. I finally got it through my thick skull.
The rest of my story. I returned the package to Electronic Deals asking for a replacement in a sealed box. I was notified by Newegg that I would get a refund. Electronic Deals had no intention of giving me a new, unmolested tablet because they don't most likely don't have any and never did.
After reading a ton of Newegg reviews about this company, Electronic Deals, they have a less than zero rating! Very few people got what they ordered from them and others have had terrible trouble getting anything back from them. I talked with a Newegg Customer Service Rep. and told her about the trouble I had and asked if they ever read any feedback about their third party vendors. She just kind of said, "We're not responsible for third party vendors." So I asked her why they have farmed my order out to a third party without even telling me in first place. She then said, "That's how our Marketplace service works."
Well, it doesn't work. So, if you buy something from Newegg, don't let them send you to a "Marketplace" vendor or you might never get anything.
