Pet Peev, phone who abuse high end phones - General Topics

I always put and screen protector and a dual layer case on my phones
Idea is its the 99% mint when its 2 years later, and thus and good phone to sell or to pass onto and family member who does not need cutting edge tech
so when I see people in the pub/bar/work etc
put their phone face down on a table, say with salt on it and when they get a notification the slide it face down toward the edge of the table to get it over the salt
and they ***** that its not scratch proof when it starts looking bad.
you all know these people, they have a 1 month old S4/HTC One/iP5 and it looks 3 years old.
makes me want to take it off them and give them a 10 year old Nokia brick cause its all they deserve.
anyone else have this gripe ?

No one else ?

It usually doesn't bother me unless they say it's the phone's fault. Then I'll defend the phone. As long as they realize how they are treating the phone I couldn't care less. It's their money and phone so they can do what they want. So... option 3?

I find you don't always need a screen protector. I never use them and never get scratches. However my friend always manages to get scratches on his top of the line screens. I know he's clumsy but I don't get what things he must be doing to scratch gorilla glass 3 :-/

Well, their money, their phone, the decide what to do with it.
I know what you mean though, and regarding my own device, I always have a cover and a screen protector on it. It does add a little bulk and it almost hides the original design of the device, but I'm willing to sacrifice that in order to protect my (expensive) device. It also means that I can be a little les gentle with it than I otherwise would, since the cover will absorb most of the bumps. I don't slide it over salt though

I don't care enough about people to care what they do with their phones. It's not my phone they're ruining, and the only one whose money is wasted is their. I just laugh at them.

I wan't to cry and than kill people who treat mobile devices, PS's, laptops like thay paid it 5$...I have seen all sorts of things (I'm servicing tech).
Why that bothers me? Because, people treat gedgets like baby treath her toy, and when thay broke it, thay panick and get angry.
I live with one persion like that...It's hard to watch, every day, believe me

Why do you care what other people do with there stuff?

Still not as bad as seeing a blonde 45 year old woman crawl along the motorway at 80kph in a brand new Porche, only for her to later spend half an hour attempting to park it in a spot three cars wide. And fail.
That's far more painful to watch.

I am right there with you. I agree 100%

Meh. I dislike screen protectors as they always slightly detract from the vividness of colors. I do use case now but I've never had an issue keeping phones in good condition with no case or screen protector while putting them in an empty pocket.

Ehh, i don't really have any gripes about people and their phones. Like, the rest I agree that it's their money and if they're stupid enough to not take good care of it, then they can spend more on getting a new one. Yay for the economy.
I take care of my phone and if someone asks me how come my phone looks so great compared to theirs, I say "hmm I don't know. I try to take care of my phone".

The thing that really confuses me is how the phone operates. Employees only pay $10 a month for the phone. But the entire phone is locked down. You can't install any applications. The only thing you can do is use the web browser, send and receive email, text messaging, and take pictures.
Sent from my unlocked consumer edition Motorola Droid Maxx xt1080m.

our company, and its a fortune 500 does not lock down the iPhones.

It's not my place to tell others how they should spend their money or treat their property, but I don't get why so many people will spend hundreds of dollars on a fragile piece of electronics and not protect it with so much as a screen protector or TPU case, let alone something like an Otterbox or Incipio. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and a few bucks in protection can save a hundred or two in a new screen or insurance replacement.

Some accessories (cases, cords,pouches)

Head over to daydeal.com they have some accessories even a TV out cord that says its for the incredible and g2 ( anyone got extra cash to buy it and see if it works? ) I ordered this clear case with a kickstand I'll put a review when i get it. But take a look. Not much of a selection but might as well be prepared
have no plans of making a fat phone fatter. maybe an invisible shield or BSE but no hard case for me.
Hate to say it, but I don't think we'll be seeing much accessories for this phone. Due to it being a Tmobile phone only, I just don't see many making products for it.
Im gonna get something to protect the back cuz it looks like it gets scratched easily

I understand that the Desire Z will be out as well, and that still means nothing. All those cases you speak of for the Nexus One are cheap cases found on eBay, or made by some cheap China company. I know because I own a Nexus One as well, and it took a while to find a great case for it.
Also, to compare the new G2 to an iPhone is just stupid. iPhone carries the name, and has been around for years. Of course there's a ton of crap for it. Heck the G2 won't even come near to selling a quarter of what the iPhone, nor will it come close to what the Galaxy S has for that matter.
All I'm saying is that we won't see the nicer accessories made by the better companies make product for this phone. We're just gonna get stuck with those cheap ebay crap.

You can't really blame them. In a business perspective making accessories for the iphone is the most profitable since iphone is, in a sense, dumbed down for the masses. Right now I think Apple and Blackberry combined own at least 50% market share. So unless Android can somehow bring their share of the smartphone market up another 10%, I doubt accessory manufacturers will see accessories for Android devices as a primary source of revenue.
Android devices are made for geeks like us who like to customize instead of having things already premade for us. So I'm sure this aspect will appeal to more and more people in the near future. And from what I've seen, HTC has brilliant marketing campaigns. I'm sure in around 3 or 4 more quarters android will have a much better standing in the smartphone market and more accessories will be made. Just my 2 cents.

Why the Nexus One is Still The BEST Phone

I know it has been years since the Nexus One was released.. but when it comes to durability ..it is still the best phone..at least in smartphones.
I have dropped my smartphones literally hundreds of times and nothing has ever happened.
However..the biggest thing.. I dropped my Nexus One in the toilet and left it there for like 10 minutes and it still works fine. Everything works exactly the same.
I even wrote a detailed story here about my Nexus ONe:
http://appdigy.com/375/the-power-of-the-nexus-one/
I have nothing against the N1 but just because it is durable does not mean it is the best phone.
In your eyes, yes. But "best" is subjective and it is different for everyone. The N1 is still a nice phone though, because it had incredible specs for its time and right now can be classified as mid to low range whereas other phones of its time would be classified as crap

That might be true but I still feel when it comes to durability, it is superior than the phones of today.
If you drop an SG3 or an iPhone 5, it will most likely crack but my Nexus One didn't.

This is true but it seems to be a sad move "forward" in technology in general. Cars used to stronger in the past but now they are just thin sheets of metal...
Phones once idiot proof are now broken with a simple drop.
I don't if the technology that comes out now is weaker but I am sure if companies wanted they could make a phone that would be super strong... they dont, i assume to keep people buying more phones.
Its a sad world.

They don't because they are focused on making sexy thin phones. There are cases available (such as otter box, life proof, and more) if someone wants to make their phone durable. Problem is people who don't think they need a case like that end up dropping their phone and breaking it

Is even $70 really a lot to spend to protect a $700 phone ?
I don't think so, that's only 10% of the device cost - and you can get an Otterbox or whatever for even less than that.
I hardly ever drop my phone, so a rugged case isn't a big concern for me. My last phone that I had before this, I dropped it maybe two times the entire two years I had it, and it looks practically brand-new. I've never dropped a phone in a toilet (... or anything for that matter) and I honestly don't understand how that happens.
My friend has dropped her S3 more times than I think she can count, without a case or anything, and it's still fine. I wouldn't call it indestructible, but it's clearly not as fragile as fine china or anything.

LOL!
If I got **** not only on a phone, but IN it...
Sure, I'm friends with humans who carry faeces around inside them a better part of their day - but we don't usually trade. I'm not going to keep a phone if I've been 2 Girls 1 Cup intimate with it.
N1 had (and still has) serious Touch/Multitouch issues. Not the best phone, in fact it was a failure (for developers a jewel maybe)

Worst flagship cellphone ?

Well my coworkers and I were having a discussion about what we thought about all the flagship phones that have been a real let down in certain categories.
Such as:
1: build quality
2: poor internals
3: bad user interface
And well we all concluded that although we like Samsung products the Galaxy S4 was a let down for us. Not to say we hate it, since 4 out of 10 of my coworkers have Galaxy S3s and 4s. But they stated they would have either A: not have got any Samsung product or B: just get a case. Which in turn asks the question, why do I need to buy a case so that my phone doesn't feel cheap ?(feel not price since we all know they are not cheap)
Now I want to here your opinions on what you consider the worst or biggest let down flagship phone.
I don't want people flaming each other for their opinions and I think if were old enough to get cellphones were old enough to converse like adults.
Begin.

Man that phone's build quality was horrible. It's the only phone I've ever owned that started falling apart and it was never even close to abused. No nicks, dents or scratches, but the camera bezel kept falling off and eventually the front bezel started separating from the rest of the body, and it had a truly awful camera. I used it less than a year.

Essential 2 possibility?

I'm starting to look for a new phone and the Essential has piqued my interest, but, it seems like there have been quite a few start up problems associated with new products.
So, since the World Mobile Congress is happening at the end of the month and Essential has a spot reserved in it, I was wondering if there has been any leaks, rumors or news associated with it? I was hoping for news of an Essential 2 or a ph-2? New release? Anything?
Thx.
Probably just new colors and accessories. They have their hands full dealing with the PH-1.

Maybe... Although with this phone flopping the way it did, I don't know how much I would invest in the next phone if I were them or their investors... The PH-1 was a failure. They lost money on every unit they sold. If Andy had not raised so much capital to keep them afloat, they would have closed their doors by now.
The vision was ambitious and great. The execution, not so much.
There are a lot of B.S. articles out there no doubt, and there were some growing pains... But I wouldn't give up my PH-1 for any other phone right now. I love it... no case since launch, and still looks great, camera is pretty good now. battery life spectacular, Looking forward to whatever they have to offer next

I like most things about it. I am just annoyed at bugs, and the progression of updates isn't as good as I would have hoped. Yes, they put out 16 camera updates over 5 months, but that isn't exactly a ringing endorsement... that they HAD to put out so many updates just to get the camera up to "mediocre" status... LOL
Like anything, if it works for you and makes you happy, enjoy it! I am just on the fence with it...

Failure?
You need to define failure.
I have a friend on Sprint that has hated just about every phone she had Android and iPhone.
She absolutely loves the PH-1.
I have a PH-1 and it is by far the best phone I've owned.
Here is my list that I've owned:
SCH-i600W (Windows flip phone)
SCH-i760
Treo 700W
BB Storm 1
BB Storm 2
DroidX
Droid Bionic
Droid Razr
Droid Razr Maxx
Galaxy S4
LG G3
iPhone 6 plus
Nexus 6P
LG G6
Essential PH-1
There are some true failures in that list.
If you want to base success on how many sold you might be right.
What they learned though was how difficult it is to launch a device.
They leaned to roll out updates.
They learned how they need to support customers.
They learned how to partner, although they picked a crappy one (Sprint).
But overall as a new player in the high end market, I wouldn't call them a failure.
Failure defined by sales numbers and how much money they lost on this phone.
SquireSCA said:
Yeah, few failures on that list. I have had a few that were not on the list as well, I am betting that we all have.
One thing that I will say, and this is based on several tech articles that I have read in the past couple weeks, is that the market is changing a bit. It's not the wide open market that it was in a lot of ways, even just a few years ago. One article pointed out that a company like OnePlus, got really lucky. They hit at the right time, but for someone else to do it again in 2017/18 faces more challenges.
Oh well, time will tell I guess.
I love new products and the more there are, the more competition there is. I don't want a world made up of just Apple and Samsung. But we are gonna have to sift through a few lemons to find that occasional diamond in the rough...
Click to collapse
Considering that Google only sold ~4 Million of Pixel and Pixel 2 phones of all types last year, calling the Essential a complete failure might be a bit premature.
The sales numbers might be low, but I think that this is just indicative of how difficult it is to compete with Apple and Samsung and nothing else.
I like innovative an new products.
No matter what they say about Essential, they were first to the party with a phone that had a huge screen and minimal bezels.
They have a build quality and hand feel second to none.
I don't plan on replacing this phone for a while.
I only with I could get a Poetic Affinity case. That is my favorite case and I've had one on my last three phones.

But think about the size of the companies and length of time in the market.
Google had all year and only sold 4 Million. That's 333K per month. That's a rally low number.
Essential started shipping in the second half of the year and was an unknown company.
So if you put it into perspective. We don't know if the company is a failure or not, is all I'm saying.
The time on the market is not statistically significant enough to draw any conclusion.
I just know I like my PH-1.
88k shipped, not sold. Plus, how many returns?
Sorry guys. Didn't mean to start a phone bashing thread.
No bashing. The situation is what it is.

Hmm....
So this is the choice i have. start giving out warnings/infractions or you all have a civilized conversation without name callings of any sort or bashing each other ?
You all don't need to reply just answer yourself and proceed as i know what i would be doing next if this continues.
Thread cleaned.
I hope the company survives. Overall I am pretty happy with my PH-1. I much prefer it to any Scamsung product. And everywhere you go, Samsung and Apple are the only choices. That needs to end. Can't find an HTC anywhere to put my hands on despite it being critically acclaimed as one of the best devices of 2017. Pathetic. I asked about the PH-1 at Best Buy and the employee said they might have 1 in the back but there just wasn't enough display space. They had about 30 Samsung and iPhones on display though.....

I like the my PH-1 and you'll need to pry it from my cold dead hands.
I can't think of any other phone I like better.
I just wish that Poetic made the Affinity case for the PH-1. :crying:

Considering that officially they only sell in the US...
It is a new product. I doubt anybody would expect too a million phones in 3 months or something.
Has some issues, yes. First gen stuff always does. Even second and third gen do.
Works Ok for a first gen. Does what I need to do.
I don't have brand loyalty to anything, may buy something else in a few months. Maybe even a PH-2...

dbrand new grip case SUCKS!

Just in case the other thread was not being followed much , I wanted to make it real clear.
I have bought 6 dollar cases off of Amazon that are better than this hot mess
Cut outs too small for the headphone Jack
Cut outs too small for the spen
Buttons are garbage , very stiff and lacking a good click
Corners are thin with little protection
Back cutouts block the fingerprint reader and interfere with its operation (about 70% it doesn't recognize my finger, no problems with the other cases I have)
The case itself is not grippy THE VERY FREAKING THING IT IS NAMED FOR.It slides allover when put on a flat surface, unlike the original grip case.
It has a back?? That you are supposed to put skins on??
The sides block the edge and mess with the edge screen functions
I could probably go on , but it's no longer worth it, dbrand should be ****ing embarrassed by this disaster, and I would no recommend this case to anyone.
Not surprised. What a mess. They delay and delay and delay and remain SILENT on this new product of theirs that they had to have spend a lot of money on when you consider the video ad they made and they delivered (finally) what?
If you can do a video review, please do so. Thanks for the update.
Was waiting for a video review to show up on YouTube, from the sounds of it, I shouldn't bother...
I was very disappointed by it. Specific to the Note 9, the cutouts for the S-Pen and fingerprint sensor.
Overall, I prefer the Grip V1. It had actual GRIP and I enjoyed the bumper style case more. The hard plastic felt cheap.
About the only things I see as a plus is that the buttons are textured and the case will probably not degrade horribly like the first Grip.
I messaged them on Sunday to tell them how f***** bad the case is plus some other stuff, guess what?
Never replied back, usually they reply in like 4-6h everytime!
Also told them to post my comment about GRIP on Twitter like they usually do lol
What a loser company,f**** up and can't even admit it!
But lets post how we told/wrote customer's "**** off BIATCH!" on Twitter...that's cool, right?!
Suddenly after the GRIP thing settled a little how they're active on Twitter,roasting/savaging/humiliating people (per fanboys ofc) smfh

Lol was a ****ty read in all honesty!
He basically said it's **** but found what that you can buy for 5$ a skin and put it on,ohhh but you'll have to buy the case for 30something dollars. That's his good?!
Plus he never mentioned anything about the S-Pen issue that you either need to use a sharp object or your smallest finger to kinda press in to get the pen to pop out (same goes for putying the pen back in).Not grippy, hmmmm most important thing isn't good at all,it's garbage.
Button clickability isn't good is f***** horrible,OHHHHHHHH and you don't get used to the fingerprint sensor issue, period! Way to much raised, you literally have to press but press pretty hard in order for your finger to touch the sensor. You do not get used to that.
BUT hey you can buy and apply a skin, that's the good thing. Def would recommend after the review.
p.s. Wrote them a nice juicy message but after 5 days they never replied, basically took our money and f*** off!
Normally they'll answer to anything in 4-6h,this time no word.

Not taking dbrand's side here at all (I hate the case too), but these statements have been made: "You can tell that I’m not happy with the case," "I really like the design and the fact that I can customize it with dbrand’s skins," and "a case I don’t like using every day and thus, I’d highly recommend looking for something else." So the review says that the customizability is the only good side, but everything else is a downside. The S-pen issue hasn't been mentioned because it was a OnePlus 6 and not a Note 9. The review does not recommend the case, unlike what you're saying.
To be honest, though, the power button did get less stiff after continued use of about a week and I got used to the fingerprint scanner issue. Maybe it's more on the Note 9, but it wasn't for my OnePlus 6.
I'm not going against you here; I'm on your side. The Grip (and Prism, for that matter) are both ****ty products. But the review is pretty on point with what everyone's saying.
I've also sent multiple emails to dbrand and they're letting me return it. However, the return process is stupid and just makes you not wanna do it. So just like you, even I'm not happy. Just wanted to make that clear.

You're right!
Didn't see it was for the OnePlus 6,kinda went with Note 9 since it's on this thread, smh my bad should've looked at it properly!
Makes sense now...
Prime example of a company becoming to arrogant regarding it's customer's. You see they wanted to rip us off with a ****ty product. Probably thought we got a **** ton of fanboys whatever you bring out it'll be good enough for them! This whole GRIP thing was a farce, utter disaster... that's why they're so quite about it all, trying to put it under the rug and get moving again without losing to much customer's.
Yet whatever they Twitt it's so amazingly cool, best company ever etc...I guess as long as there are sheep companies will make millions of off people!

Man, you're sooo right! Not gonna lie, I used to be a fanboy too, but oh, how that's changed.
They go around showing how "awesome" their customer service is but it's actually so ****. Despite being the second iteration of their phone case, they haven't even gotten the basics right. It basically proves that they're extracting money from fanboys. And believe it or not, some fanboys are actually like the case!
To make things worse, I got the Prism and that was **** too. Literally cut my finger.
I'm sticking to them to get my money worth, but that's so not happening.

In all honesty, since when was anything "Made in China" good/great?!
Only that shows you they never intended to make a good product,I'm even asking myself now is the GRIP actually made out of the material they are saying it's made of?
Think about this for a second...
You get lets say 100,000 orders
-People need to be payed (costs money)
-Material,template etc...(costs money)
-Put on a skid and shipped (costs money)
-F*** up needs to be remade (maybe they didn't, who knows) (costs new money)
-Customs clearance (costs money government wants some of it to)
-**** up,everyone gets 10$ Amazon gift card (costs money)
Fast run through of the costs/steps to make it and plus 10$ for Amazon. Imagine now how cheap the material and everything has to be for them to make still money out of the GRIPs if you're selling it for 30$ minus the 10$ Amazon?!
These cases couldn't have cost more the a couple of bucks at most per case!
Cheap ass cases, nothing else.Which shows you can't deny it.
p.s. Don't lie buddy,PRISM is dope as f***...didn't you see the guy hammering against his IPhone and PRISM saved his phone??? Smh don't talk **** about the screen protectors
p.s.2 Joke...ofc it's also **** like GRIP

You're right. Now that you've said it this way, if you check the customs invoice, you can see that dbrand has declared the value of the Grip to be $7. I'm actually now convinced it's even cheaper since they can't just go around giving $10 gift cards on a $30 product. That makes it $20 and they still have to do everything else you said. Nope. Impossible unless it's actually like $2 or something lol.
This thing is totally not worth its price. I'm still using the Spigen Tough Armor. Just enough thickness, the best buttons, very low price.
You noticed where half of your monies goes right? I noticed alot of YouTube videos have a snippet about dbrand in them lately.

Honestly I can't believe the hype about a company that basically draws some random bs on a sticky notes, insults customer's (tho I'm ok with the idiot's that get insulted for stupidity) without any reason?!
I've tried all skins from Dbrand,Slickwraps etc...pretty much the same s**t more or less!
Shows pretty much how easy it is to market something, you'd think it's 2019 and people are smarter but guess not, ehhhhh?
This GRIP thing should've been there end...we all f*** up no issue with that, but they literally historically f****ed up and now are acting after 2 months like nothing ever happened?
Basically just shoved it under the rug...Now they started posting random posts again that only support and a...lick them, people act like they never f***d us up?!
I can't wrap my head around how stupid humanity has become, smfh

Well said. It's the same thing I say about housing, cars, smartphone costs, and pretty much anything else that humans buy that are overpriced to high hell. I do not understand why so many people constantly buy buy buy and then don't actually seem to care after the purchase is done, that something isn't working as it should. I guess I can't complain too much though because I just got a $20 check in the mail for Net10 or whatever their name was from like 10+ years ago for a settled lawsuit for them lying about "unlimited data." Lol.
Concerning the cases and such, people seem to have a stigma about cases that cost less than $30 apparently. Especially the overly hyped companies...UAG, I'm looking at you. Sorry but $60 for a case? WHAT?! And people often respond with the usual, "I'm protecting my $1k investment, I'm not going to be using a super cheap case." That's like saying, you want the most expensive car insurance policy all because you bought an expensive car, without actually putting thought into why cheaper insurance might leave you better off! It blows my mind how many people just mindlessly spend extra money on something just because they justified it already, or saw someone else do the exact same thing. Don't get me wrong, UAG(am I typing that right?), makes some really sexy cases, damn they look good and feel good. But they are overpriced man.
Reminds me of the ZeroLemon battery cases, Mophie(YUCK!!!), and the others. What in the actual F is all the extra high pricing for????? And why the heck are so many people going to freaking Best Buy to buy the Mophie battery cases like hotcakes???? LMFAO. Man, human beings are....in need of help when it comes to making sensible purchases.
Where are the "Real" pictures of this case?
