I'm LOST...Please help

I have been a long time user of Windows Mobile phones, Pda's for many years, three months ago I sold up and have bought an Iphone 3GS.
Now my initial thoughts were hugely positive and liked the easy simplicity, but over the time using the device on a day to day basis, I have become completely frustrated with the lack of freedom to customise my device, USB uncompatiblity with car chargers forces you to have to spend out on official Apple products, no possibly way to upload images to website from the safari browser, I completely miss my today screen with all the information on meetings and weather etc...
I feel like the Iphone is simply a launch pad for applications and that is it.
OK I really like the Applications available, and it has a very strong following from developers, but everything has to be transfered via Itunes and I have no control over files I need to save, upload, download.
I am a PC user and don't own an apple, I use Google as my main calendar and link it to my outlook for syncing.
I would like to go back to windows mobile, but feel its growing old and not sure of its future, I like the look of Android, but am completely novice to it, also the Palm WebOS looks like a mix between iphone and Windows mobile, but again its following in the UK is lacking.
I really need some help with pro's and cons for each OS and devices, I like the look of these:
Android Samsung Galaxy S
Android HTC Desire
HTC Touch HD 2
or simply stay with my Iphone 3GS

What ever you decide but not iphone would be a wise choice
I would choose Leo as it´s a great device, I prefer stable mature WM over young funny Android all the way
Now you can also have Android on Leo as well

I have used both HD2 and the Desire, and I personally prefer Android more than WM. I prefer the design and build quality of the HD2 more than the Desire though.
You really have to figure out which OS suit you the best, different people has different needs.
Try using someone's Android device and see if Android OS fulfill your daily needs.

Same for me - had windows mobiles for the last 4 years and they are good. Easy to flash - loads of cooked roms but, for me they have become very "samey" - just changed from a HD2 this month to a streak (took the plunge) and it is brilliant but, i havent got my unlock code for it yet. In fact i was so impressed with android i got myself a Nexus one as well, rooted and flashed it this afternoon with the cyanogen mod and its even better....so, its probably the freshness thats saying this but i would go for android.

I've had a Nexus One since April 1st (The irony, april fools) and I've simply ADORED IT.
I'll admit I've dropped it accidentally many times, even face first, and I've only got a few scratches on the back of it xD, and one or two VERY MILD scratches on the display, hardly noticeable.
I just rooted my nexus one and flashed Amon-RA-recovery and cyanogen mod 6.0 rc2 and I can tell you one thing, it's brilliant. And with the upcoming 720p capture hack... oh yes. Android is beast... that's for sure!

[Q] Best Smartphone

I am trying to decide on a new phone. The carrier is not an issue, I've had a rooted mytouch, a rooted nexus one, stock evo4g, and currently now have an epic 4g. Multimedia and apps are very important to me, the iphone4 looks good, but my current phone my be better. Am thinking about a windows phone but don't know anything about them. Any suggestions?

If you are looking to mod/play with your phone do not choose a winmo7 phone.. Not quite yet. It simply is what it is and they are so new the apps are not there yet. As far as apps the iPhone in sheer quantity has the most but Android is where the devs are turning to more and more. There are also a lot of apps on android that are not on an iPhone. The new Nexus S is an amazing fast device as I have been playing around with mine and the SAMOLED with its curves and anti smear screen IMO out plays the iPhone4s smaller not quite as bright seeming screen. I work at att and see the thing every day and still feel Samsung has really got the best screen (apps). Windows has done well with this new operating system but is still very new, Apple will be Apple, blackberry is great for non-Gmail email and Android will let people play with what they wanna play with. Depends totally what you plan on doing beyond media and apps

I say go for the HTC Leo. Great perfomance, great screen, and it runs WM 6.5, WM 6.5.x, Android, and soon hopefully WP7

Buying a device with the intent of running two officially unsupported OSs probably isn't the best idea...

If they work why not? He already rooted his old phone so I dont think he ios adverse to playing around and bringing out a phones true potential.

The branded galaxy S phones have the best multimedia support but you already got one so...
Best apps however, go for an iPhone 4. Unfortunately, you can't have the best of both worlds.

Well if you don't mind waiting this summer there are going to be a ton of dual core phones our for us to choose from.
Right now I'm rocking a Nexus 1 with 233; I'm going to wait a bit and see what comes out later and see what comes.

OG Droid, all the way. Completely changed the mobile landscape and put Android on the map.

The G1 and the N1, followed by the Droid...
The N1 is still the best one ever made.

The nexus 1 in USA and Desire in Europe

In terms of influence and popularity/innovation etc., I'd say the list is more like 1. G1(just b/c its the first Android), 2. OG Droid(First Android phone that blew up, ridiculous marketing etc), 3. HTC EVO (easily the iPhone of Androids) 4. Nexus 1 5. SGS/II 6. Droid X, 7. Droid Inc. 8. Moto Atrix 9-10, idk? Personally I'd put the HTC Aria up there for having such a clean, small design. Didn't sell huge but it did decent for an AT&T phone.
Idk, I think the youtube list is way off. For example, I don't know too many people who even heard of the LG Optimus X2. The Optimus V is a much bigger step for Android IMO ($130 prepaid, easily one of the best-selling Virgin Mobile phones).

I was always a Nokia man until i bought a archos 5, 2 years ago and was very impressed, which led to the android change.
Wouldn't change back and would even go as far to say as i would be lost with out all the features we now all take for granted.

Why dint xperia x10 get there???...it had 1ghz when samsungs and htcs were still in 800mhz...

Sgs 2 is awesome phone but I don't have I use oroginal milestone it's slow and sluggish runnin on stock and don't know how to install roms ... :/ can't find recovery mode on the phone can some one will help ?

Since the question is which 10 best are responsible for putting Android on the map and not best overall here goes...
10. Your winmo phone - yes, I grouped them up but I think the Android ports is what really got the community moving from winmo->android...people just had to have a taste before they were willing to commit..
9. iphone - since theoretically iphone can run android I can count it as an Android phone ...Android was gonna grow iphone or not, that is obvious..all those people saying iphone is responsible for Android being what it is today is nto really true..it had its influence but end of the day thats very small..what they did have is getting average consumers interested in smartphones and touchphones to begin with.
8. Nexus S - Due to media's scaring people with fragmentation it arose a lot of interest among people due to it being "Google Experience" which is suppose to rival the pure "iphone experience"
7. HTC Hero - probably the first Android phone anyone heard any mention of...if they heard of it..
6. Samsung Intercept/Moment/Original Galaxy/w\w other names it has - Yes, crazy I know..this is a low end phone and is complete junk..but it made itself popular due to it being low budget and available in all markets..its junk but it put android on the map...whether it be in a good way or bad way is another story..
5. Droid X - Like the Evo it was a big competitor and had a lot of backing from the Droid camp.
4. HTC Evo 4G - This one is a big one mostly in the developer community. It also saw a lot of advertisement from Sprint which helped put it on the map as an alternative to the iphone. Unfortunately lack of stock ultimitely turned a lot of people down for months but there is no denying that average people know this phone by name in the US.
3. HTC Desire - This phone is very popular in the international community. I don't know the exact details but I know its big...its effectively the HTC incredible which did wonders and its similar to nexus one.
2. Samsung Galaxy S - The key to this one was samsung's ability to get the phone on so many carriers and so many markets..while each variant may not have performed well on itself it did wonders overall. Not to mention while TouchWiz UI is not very popular among many in development, to the average consumer it made things a lot simpler.
1. Motorola Droid - With Verizon's $100m advertising campaign, android was put on the map right there
Now..why is the Nexus One not there or the G1? well frankly they are both good phones but they did not put Android on the map...Nexus One was popular among the Android community..but outside no one heard of it..it was a developer phone with no supply chain...but still is an awesome phone...the G1 can probably be #11 but Android announcement wasn't even known by average people and most of the tech community was "thats nice"..again its a good phone responsible for alot but it didn't carry the weight the above 10 did...

Samsung Galaxsy II, new but great, legendes will remain legends but this phone have very good future, i think by moding and developing will suprass any android phone.... Respect to G1 and N1, dislike HTC (because of unreall price here in Serbia)

The best "phone" at this time IMHO is.. the iphone4
I don't understand why there is no android phone with the same physical specs - the same width/height/depth/weight and the same POWER specs (cpu/mem/features) - but with an android OS.
Everyone is trying to make a "huge-phone", instead of a classic portable phone.
That is really a shame.

I would say,
G1 (obvious reasons)
2. Nexus S (one of the best stock android phone)
3. Samsung Galaxy S2 (latest and the best)
Also, in case anyone else didn't notice, the video link the OP posted, is now removed from youtube.

Same usual suspects. Droid because it was the one that got Android noticed. galaxy s because it sold over 10 million, and the nexus series because those were google phones

Once iOS catches android in terms of user interface, it probably will need to include a dual core processor.
Same goes for WP7, once it catches android in terms of features.
There's always a catch, you get some, you lose some.

Why did you get an android phone?

The title says everything.
For me i got my desire a year ago because I saw it as top on techradar, besides I wanted to try android while my brother got an iPhone 4.
Edit: from some of the posts here I find it really depressing because most of you would have chosen iPhone if it was cheap. Which means android was like a substitute, but i really think android is much more useful as a phone.
IPhone can be jailbroken and customized but its really unstable IMO.
Android can be customized but its not polished enough in certain areas

Seems like I did the same thing, got an iPad, iPhone 4S, and the LG thrill
phones are phones... I like both phones for different reasons

Galaxy S II v iPhone 4
I had to get one or the other and quickly decided on the Galaxy S II even though i was all new to the Android scene, Galaxy S II was cheaper on contract as well as being packed in terms of hardware, iPhone 4 is no slouch though!
Here i am 6months later, couldn't be happier with my purchase!

I got android cause what is the point of having 2 iPhones? I got my first android for work, rom'd it and loved the versatility. Wifi tether is a God send in my industry. I love Android, I have had a Droid Milestone, Droid 2 Global, HTC Inspire 4g and I just got my Galaxy Nexus =].
I am PRO Android

A few reasons:
1.) Got a G1 at launch, loved the software but hated the hardware, and thus returned it. Then I got tied into an iPhone contract.
2.) Three years(-ish) later, I switched to Virgin Mobile for a few months to get some bills paid down. Got an Optimus V for next to nothing, and loved it, but I just needed more headspace.
3.) Got everything bill-wise taken care of and looked into different phones. I had a great experience with T-Mobile, so I decided I wanted to go back to them. Looked at their different phones and decided that the Galaxy SII was gonna be my next, and thus far, I love it.
Hopefully we get a vanilla port of ICS, whatever channel that may be through. But I'm not too beat up over it if we don't. Just have to wait and see what Cyanogenmod has to offer in a few months.

I got an Android phone after using Android on my HD2 for a long time. I decided to try out a real Android phone so I got an Inspire (Desire HD). Excellent phone but all of my experience with Android...on many, many versions on HD2 and many real Android phones I've returned during the return period...the battery life is severely poor.

i was casually developing an interest in linux so it seemed like the right thing to do when my iPhone 3G broke down.

Why Oh Why
Because all of the cool kids were doing it...
actually my WinMo phones were getting a bit long in the tooth and support was lagging so i gave it a try on an HD2 and the rest is history. For me ASOP, CM and Sense are the only builds worth using. I've since moved on to some android tablets but have started using a WP7 device as my daily driver phone.
I still have my desire Z and use it mostly to test new roms or OS builds, testing some light development work or when i get bored with things working elegantly and consistently.

I purchased an Android phone because I truly believe that OSS is the future.

I was religiously using Windows Mobile and it was time for something new

I have used 4 WinMo Phones before switching to android. All because winmo was a crap , laggy and bad. Now android phones are more fast , also the devolpers are all devolping for android and not more winmo.

I hated Apple but kinda wanted an iphone, it's shortcomings at the time kept me away from it. In February of 2009 I signed a 2 year contract with a Samsung Eternity thinking I was getting an iphone experience without the shortcomings. Within a month I realized my phone was nothing special, just a dumb phone with a screen and i decided I was getting a smartphone the next time. The market to me seamed bleak seemed nothing could hold a candle to the iphone and you just had to deal with no mms amongst other things. And then my brother showed off his brand new T-mobile G1 and i was blown away. I had heard about the "google " phone but it seemed like it's release was a non event. I saw apps and customization options and multiple home screens. I wanted one, but sadly I wasn't even half way to my upgrade date. Over the next year the obsession grew and while I planned to leave at&t in February of 2011, I couldn't wait any longer and come November 2010 I opted for an early upgrade with a Samsung Captivate

Why i switched back to Android from IOS.

Hello everybody, this is the story about why i switched back to Android from IOS. Hope you enjoy!
When i first got in to Smartphones i bought a HTC Tattoo, and it was a very good device to begin with. It had Android Version 1.6, and that was fine to me in some time, but then i found out that Google had released Android Version 2.1 and even 2.3 (Gingerbread) and i got a little bit disapointed with my phone, i waited for weeks for my device to get updated but it never did..... So i saved up for a new phone with a newer version of Android so i bought the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 (Yeah. i know it was a crappy device, but i didnt know much about phones back then...) and it had Android Version 2.1 (Froyo) and i was really happy a long time, but at some point I was getting bored, so i wanted a new version of android to try some new things but that never happend either.... besides that the Xperia X8 was really laggy all the time and had a 600mhz procceser inside and couldnt run the most basic games..... so i was getting really angry on Android and bought a IPhone 4S because i was tired of all the apps and games i couldnt run on my old phone and never gotten updates Android updates. so i used the IPhone about a year and i was really happy, and i could run all the apps i wanted to try, and i got 2 major updates, but one day i was on Youtube and i saw the way Android has evolved and has gotten Project butter so it was alot smoother and you could do anything you want with it when you rooted it, even ahole new rom. Then i looked at my IPhone 4S and I felt very limited with an IPhone.
so i sold my IPhone a bought a brand new LG Nexus 4, and i am REALLY happy i did it, because now Android is smooth and powerful enough to handle intensive apps and because it´s a Nexus device i get all the new updates straight from google.
and i will never buy a IPhone again because it gives me a limit so i can´t do the things i want to do.

You made a great decision to get on Android again :good: Nowadays if you want to be happy from your Android you need to have a powerful high-end device otherwise some of the old ones sooner or later get really slow and crappy and get on your nerves like my Galaxy i9000 which I really want to change. :

I agree. It took a while for Android devices and the OS to catch up but catch up they did and now Android is in the lead imo.
On average though, the quality of the average Android app is lower than that IOS apps but that's because the Google gatekeepers aren't as strict, which I believe is a good thing anyway.

More and more I'm thinking IOS is almost dead now. Unless they revolutionize it I would give it another year

Apple has too close an ecosystem, they need to open up a little bit. Otherwise they may stagnate.

What? Android apps are just as good or better than iOS apps.
Quality over quantity and android has the former and enough of the latter.
