Incoming Call Black List - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello, I posted this in the DEV forum and was told it was in the wrong location, so I apologize for the duplicate post.. I cannot seem to delete the post in the Dev forum... Anyway here is what I posted:
I am running the liquid smooth ROM and I had a question that I do not thing is specific to the ROM. I have a black list of phone numbers that are rejected when they call my mobile number, however whenever I update my ROM or switch to a different ROM I have to re-enter those numbers which is a total pain. My question is, is there a file somewhere on my phone that has those numbers that I can back up and restore when I update or change the ROM?
I hope that makes sense..
One note, I am not using any 3rd party app to reject the calls and there is no option to back it up within the native functionality of the phone/ROM

[APP] [REQUEST] Need an APP to assign Unknown Caller ringtone?

Hi tried posting this in Q&A thread and got no response. So thought I'd try again here in the Apps section.
Is there a way set a discrete ringtone to unknown callers. I do not believe there is a way to do this right now. I think I need an application to do it for me.
Apparently there are three different types of unknown calls:
1. Calls from number-withheld callers.
2. Calls from a public telephone.
3. Calls from the environment where you are unable to notify the number.
It is not possible to treat the three separately.
No problems here... All I want is for my phone to use a specific ringtone for these calls, that is different to the default one I assign to contacts or calls from non withheld numbers.
I do not want to block or divert or silence them, which is what the current "unknown number" Applications do.
I do not want a different ringtone for callers not in contacts. So don't confuse my request as a requirement for this.
I get a lot of legitimate calls from a single "unknown caller" who is is fact my employer. They use number-withheld to mask who is calling. So I want my phone to ring differently when they call. Seems a pretty simple request to me.
The Nexus call log does not let you add Unknown calls in the history to contacts, which I have read in another forum as a suggested solution.
Simply want the phone to realise caller ID is unknown and because of this fact use a dedicated ringtone.
Any ideas? Perhaps for you programmer types, it is a simple app waiting to be made, that no one has thougt of yet
You could even call it "Unknown Tone". That rhymes and has a certain ring to it. pardon the pun
Alright - so no one is at all interested in this app. I can live with that.
But a simple favour. Could someone at least tell me if an app to do this seemingly simple task would be relatively easy to make?

Its 6am here in the US and your post is 4 hours old. Wait a bit and you will get answers
Do you have access to google voice? It lets you screen unknown callers.
Thanks for the reply. I recall a lack of interest back when I had a WinMo phone a couple of years ago too. Just not something most people need.
Don't have google voice as I am in Australia. If I new how to program, I would have a crack at it. On the face of it, it sounds so simple. Wonder if it would be a simple utility that I could do as a way of learning something about programming with the SDK.
So no one nows if a app to set a dedicated ringtone for unknown callers is possible?
I have installed Eclipse and the android SDK, naively thinking I might be able to make this app myself. Hello World is about the limit of what I can do. I have NFI where to start programming this thing.
Funny thing is on the face of it it seems such an easy thing to do.
If phone rings AND caller ID = unknown, assign ringtone X.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666894
It's dedicated to ROM development, I think...but, maybe you can get some help there on coding...
OK thanks will give it a try. It is such a simple idea after all.
Unknown caller answer
Hi
Just had the same issue...Go into your call history and find one of the "unknown" or "private" numbers with no phone number attached and save it as a contact and then assign your ringtone....I have a htc hero and can do this. Just did it for Private and Unknown, they can be no number attached to it, otherwise it will only work for that particular num.
NO app needed.
Good Luck

As I said in my first post, "I do not want to block or divert or silence them, which is what the current "unknown number" Applications do. " So NO it does not WORK for what I want. I need to assign a ringtone not Block. But thanks for the suggestion.

Not the case I am afraid.
Hero must run an earlier version of the android OS that the Nexus One. Because what you suggested was the very thing I first tried before starting this thread. Android 2.1 is smart enough or stupid enough (depending on your point of view) to prevent adding "Unknown" numbers to contact.
Normal number in call history, long press gives:
Call 1234567890
Edit number before call
Send text message
Add to Contacts
Remove from Call log
Unknown number in call history, long press gives:
Remove from Call log
So as you can see the lack of an "Add to Contacts" choice means I am currently snookered. What android is on your Hero and do you get the same list of options as shown above when you long press an unknown number?
Perhaps the functionality you described was removed without thought to unintended consequences in OS2.1 . They might put it back in with OS2.2 with any luck.

Yes I heard you the first time. I just tried to suggest an easy way to get rid of the unknown calls because I figured why would anyone want to here an annoying ringtone for a call that he probably doesn't want to pick up! This is why I have such few posts but I have been a member here for a lot longer than most people! You sound really angry there bud ^_^
Nah not angry bud. Just pointing out that your suggestion (for which I thanked you) does not assign ringtones to unknown callers and therefore is not a solution for me. Will be interesting to see if Froyo does this any differently. I am guessing not.
I would like to know an answer to this as well. I just upgraded to nexus one from treo 680. IN the Treo it was a simple matter to assign a particular ringtone to unknown numbers, in fact it was a menu option in call settings.
Isn't it interesting how the Treo has it as a Menu option. Where as for all intensive purposes it is not possible in the Android OS.
I now have Android OS 2.2 on my N1 and it remains unchanged. Still no obvious way to assign a discrete ring tone to an Unknown caller. Plenty off apps to block/kill Unknown/Private calls. But no way to simply give them a discrete ringtone.
Just to add that I've also wanted this since I first got my Hero - it should be possible without having to resort to using an app, though i'd be grateful for an app if it existed
You guys should request it for CyanogenMod or ask WYSIE if it's possible to add to his Contact.apk mod.
Here's a stupid question though... have you tried first going into the options for contacts and UN-checking "only contacts with phones" and then see if you can have a contact that doesn't have a phone number attached named "Unknown" ? I realize it's a long shot, but maybe you were only trying to add it when that option was checked....
Not sure if this can be setup to achieve what the OP needed?

Does Mango fix the basics ??

Will Mango fix the basic functions that were missing when released?
None of the recent reviews seem to address this..
1. Can you listen to movie audio via bluetooth headset ?
2. Can you prevent sms notifications appearing - especially on the lock screen ?
3. Is there now a detailed CALL History ?
4. Can you delete history of recent people, photos, music etc ?
5. Can you forward emails and text messages ?
6. Any sign of SMART Dialing ?
7. Can you SMS to a contacts 2nd mobile number ?
I am sure there are other small things I cant think of...
3. Is there now a detailed CALL History ?

You have already been able to do this with emails & text messages/mms.
Not sure on the rest, I haven't been specifically looking for those though with the exception of smart dialing, which I do not think is in Mango.

2) -
3) yes
4) -
5) since lauch

7) Yes and this is already possible. Just create a second contact and link them together. Kind of hacky true, but it works.

@colossus_r what is your POINT !!!!!!!!!!
I`ve had a Samsung Omnia since October and carry it everyday along with my Blackberry for work.... but I dont have time to f%%k about trying to work out things that are not obvious!!! My phone is pre-nodo btw if that makes a difference..
About Question 5
Now I am looking at a text message on the phone I press the three dots (...) and the options are send (which just does a reply) and attach. Exactly how do I forward to a different person as it does not seem clear...
About Question 7
Also how would I know that to sms to a 2nd number in contacts I would have to create a 2nd contact for the same person and then link them!!!
Questions were aimed at people who have used the Early Mango Build
Thanks to those who have answered so far

If you youtube the windows phone mago review you will see some of the features in action which could help some of the questions you havent asked.
Press and hold on a msg, you will see the option for forward. Its pretty easy to find out. That's why the other guy was questioning if you have used a wp7 phone on a daily base. Yeah, you do need to calm down a bit. If those features were important to you, a quick search would have solved your problem.

In my opinion, NoDo fixed the basics. WP7 was horrid before NoDo. Mango is supposed to go beyond the basics with added features bringing WP7 up to the level of other smartphones.
what about contact search in mango? anybody has info on whether we can search by company or still by name only?
Not sure, but there are groups anyway, so you could set up business groups.
To the original poster...
1. Dont know, hope so.
2. Dont know again, doesnt really bother me, though, just swipe to the right and it disapears.
3. Yes
4. Dont know, wouldnt use it, so havent looked.
5. Both availble since launch, just hold on the text and click foward (three dots wont work, because how the hell is the phone supposed to know which text you want to foward.) Email just press the lower left icon and it says Reply or Forward, choose forward... Incredibly simple.
6. Dont know, hope so.
7. If there is a second number in your contact you can just do it from the people hub anyway.
Company search for Exchange 2007/2010 always worked always worked I think ...but Exchange 2003 company search (GAL) was enabled in NODO
Thanks to all for answers and appologies if I have offended anyone I am a bit peeved with Microsoft, Orange and Samsung and this non update on my Omnia 7 issue......
Anyway
Email - I just realised that I actually did know previously that you could forward email but forgot as I have been mainly using Company Blackberry for email for a few months now...
SMS - I agree I didnt think it through properly and didnt think about the conversation mode would mean requiring a long press... looked a few times and tried short presses but just assumed it was a missing feature.
Thanks again feeling a bit think now
There is no smart dialing in the beta I'm using

When I start typing something in the "People" application, it finds it whether it's in the name, company or notes field of my address book. Google apps synced account, if that's of any interest, but I see no reason it wouldn't be global.

[Q] Fresh off the iPhone boat

First off - Apologies if this question has been answered, I look far and wide and searched a few times, but couldn't find the right solution.
Also I just transferred from an iPhone to Android and am quite ecstatic about the power in my hand.
Q 1. I need a modified LogsProvider.apk to clear the text messages from my call log. Any of the files I got from xda don't seem to work for me.
Q 2. Which would be an ideal ROM to use in the infuse? My main phone usage is for regular everyday apps (banking, finance, email, FB etc.), browsing, hot-spot set-up...
Also if I'm using a rooted, unlocked phone would changing (is flashing the right word to use? I'm quite unclear on what flashing means!) the ROM disable or roll-back either of them?
Q 3. Instagram equivalent camera Apps for the okay 8 MP camera which this comes with.
Appreciate the help and thanks so much!

root is a binary in the system and is included in most roms, you can downgrade it or end up with it corrupt and broken but you probably wont loose it entirely.
if the phone is carrier unlocked then that is in the efs partition. it is normally unaffected by rom flashing unless something goes very wrong. you wont loose the carrier unlock.
I don't really know about camera apps in the market. many might not take photos @ 8mp but to be honest it's a total waist of space. I can't really eecomend an app. sorry.
Thanks - any help in the phone log section? How do I disable every message from being shown? I just want to be able to see dialed, received and missed calls.

umm... download a rom
without it??? yeah I don't think logs provider is available on the forum for froyo. I think some of the froyo roms have the mod though.. but it can also be done in the phone.apk I believe. also some of the current gb roms can be set to calls only through the menu button.
If you get on a gb rom I posted a modified logsprovider.apk to remove SMS from the call logs..just sayin

Most the modded logs providers that are listed are for GB.
Also if you tried to install one, it doesn't automatically take out the messages that are already there but will from that point on.

I believe the froyo infused 1.6 rom has the logs provider mod?

How to make Viber and Whatsapp work on an UNROOTED wifi-only tablet

Well I wanted to help all who's out there with their new wifi only tablet and wanted to make viber or whatsapp to work on them
so to start I have already seen threads here on xda that already do that but they need a ROOTED device (well I didn't want to root my new tablet just yet) so I found a workaround that helped me access viber and whatsapp without rooting
The things you need :
1- Viber.apk
2- Whatsapp.apk Sorry I can't post links who wants them pm me
3- A landline (or a mobile phone number you DON'T use or need)
After you mark that you can install from unknown sources (Settings/Security/Unknown Sources)
Install both apks in any order you please
Now when you install them they will tell you that they need a phone number to give you a special code to activate your service
Enter your landline number ( it will load for some time then they will ask you to call that number )
If you enter the unneeded mobile number ( you CAN'T use viber or whatsapp on that number as you use it on your tablet ) make sure that the sim card is in a device. They will send the special code in an sms to that mobile number.
If you used the landline method they will call you and tell you the code. ( Write the code on a piece of paper )
Now enter that code on your tablet.
It will be activated on your tablet.
NOTE: You can't add contacts on your tablet. So on viber you can use the keypad and call whoever you know (that has viber) and msg him/her on that number but you can't see his/her name ( May cause problems if you have more than one girlfriend ) .Same stuff on whatsapp but the problem is that whatsapp doesn't have a keypad so eventually you would have to tell anyone who has whatsapp that you know to send you a message so that you can message them . ( Tell them to put their pictures )
I would try to find a way to add contacts to your tablet as soon as possible
By the way this is my first thread on xda so help me out and press the THANKS button
Also I'm going to work on a ROM for the T-Mobile Comet ( aka. Huawei Ideos u8150 ) I'm going to try to get Jelly Bean for the little fellow so anyone that can help me out is welcome

awesome, thanks for the tip!
Sorry I have read lots of posts on xda but I didn't know how to make a post at the first place and I didn't know it would turn out that big sorry
How did you know I am blind!
well, that method doesn't always work. (Maybe if they backed up and restored both app and settings)
It is nice of you to mention it for other people to know.
What is the advantage of using whatsapp over xabber (jabber), skype or viber?

Anything may not work for a specific reason either you didn't follow the instructions or something is wrong you don't know about
And you're welcome for your compliment
Personally I love Skype it's the highest quality of sound and video and gives you im but whatsapp is more like BBM but for android. The only special thing about viber is that it uses your contacts directly and you have your people on your phone without adding (unlike Skype) I think if Skype uses the integration of whatsapp and viber with your contacts it will be the best app for free calls and msgs out there

Wrong section, probably why no one has answered. Belongs in Q&A.
Anyway, I'm assuming your rooted? If so go into TiBu & restore data for that app. Also see if there's a backup/restore feature in the settings of that app for next time.
Just saw no 3rd party app? How are you blacklisting?
