First off - Apologies if this question has been answered, I look far and wide and searched a few times, but couldn't find the right solution.
Also I just transferred from an iPhone to Android and am quite ecstatic about the power in my hand.
Q 1. I need a modified LogsProvider.apk to clear the text messages from my call log. Any of the files I got from xda don't seem to work for me.
Q 2. Which would be an ideal ROM to use in the infuse? My main phone usage is for regular everyday apps (banking, finance, email, FB etc.), browsing, hot-spot set-up...
Also if I'm using a rooted, unlocked phone would changing (is flashing the right word to use? I'm quite unclear on what flashing means!) the ROM disable or roll-back either of them?
Q 3. Instagram equivalent camera Apps for the okay 8 MP camera which this comes with.
Appreciate the help and thanks so much!

root is a binary in the system and is included in most roms, you can downgrade it or end up with it corrupt and broken but you probably wont loose it entirely.
if the phone is carrier unlocked then that is in the efs partition. it is normally unaffected by rom flashing unless something goes very wrong. you wont loose the carrier unlock.
I don't really know about camera apps in the market. many might not take photos @ 8mp but to be honest it's a total waist of space. I can't really eecomend an app. sorry.
Thanks - any help in the phone log section? How do I disable every message from being shown? I just want to be able to see dialed, received and missed calls.

umm... download a rom
without it??? yeah I don't think logs provider is available on the forum for froyo. I think some of the froyo roms have the mod though.. but it can also be done in the phone.apk I believe. also some of the current gb roms can be set to calls only through the menu button.
If you get on a gb rom I posted a modified logsprovider.apk to remove SMS from the call logs..just sayin
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
Most the modded logs providers that are listed are for GB.
Also if you tried to install one, it doesn't automatically take out the messages that are already there but will from that point on.

I believe the froyo infused 1.6 rom has the logs provider mod?

Hello group,
Wish me luck. I am about to start my first root/rom install. Going with Andromeda. This will be applied to my 5th replacement phone for the auto shut down issue. It just arrived. I am getting tired of getting replacements and waiting for a good one so that I can go to 2.2. I have read the guides. I have a couple questions that I can't find a clear answer on.
1) I already have a paid version of mybackup pro. Can that be used instead of titanium?
2) My phone is up and running on the stock 2.1. Is it normal to restore all apps, data and system settings from the 2.1 phone to the 2.2 install? Are the system setting compatible between the two?
3) I think I recall some mention of writing down some number from your original phone so that if you have to set it back to stock for warranty. I don't see that in the official instructions though. Is there such a precaution necessary?
Thanks in advance.

1. should owrk
2.Never restore system data. Your just asking for trouble if you do.
3. Back up your efs folder from system and copy it to your pc. As roms chnage android id and imei
cool thanks for the quick response. Nubish question from your response. How do I backup the "efs" folder I don't see it using the phone to browse the files or mounting the phone via usb and browsing via the pc. Do I have to root it first?

Yes you will need to root it first and then you will need a files explorer that will allow you to get to the system files. I use Root Explorer my self. One of the few apps that is well worth the money
good luck with the first go at it. I just did the same the other day and must say best decision I made with this phone.
What everyone else said is good. I would also back up your contacts and write down your APN settings. Some ROMs change the APN.
Contacts:
1) Contacts > menu button > Import/Export > Export to SD Card > you will get a vcard file saved to your sd card. You should also back this up on your pc.
2) You can also sync your contacts with your gmail account. I usually take the vcard from earlier and import it into gmail.
APN:
1) Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > just write down the settings in case they change in the future.

Instead of this nonsense
You will be nothing but happy after flashing. I do not mpost much on here, just read and read, but this site is excellent in finding what you need. I ran Phoenix for a while and it was very good, but I have flashed Serendipity 5.0 with the latest Speedmod kernel and its working great. Battery life seems to have improved for me with this combination.
So did you flash?? What was the outcome? Success? Check out Ceszar's continuum theme for Andromeda, just love that along with Andromeda 2.0
I'm curious too as to how everything went for you.

Yes i flashed. running andromeda for the past couple days. seems fine. much faster and the gps lokcs in seconds now. with 2.2 i can now use skype, flash, chrome to phone and use the power button for the camera shutter. All wins for me. I am not sure I get any more battery life out of this setup. I have been playing with it non stop, so I don't have any real world numbers on the battery life. I also learned that mybackup pro can't restore apps backed up from 2.1 to 2.2 I tried 3 times and every time the apps would fail at some point and I wold have to hard close them.
I have noticed a couple times that I have lost the data connections either on wifi or the 3g. Not sure it's the rom, hardware or just plain bad cell sites. but on reboot the connections were fine.
Over all impressed with the dev team for adromeda. They have an irc channel and there seems to be someone always there to answer my questions.

Just an update.
I rolled back to the untheamed 1.0 andromeda and then applied the DMT Dark Theme. did not like the battery meter so loaded modded circle one. Pretty happy with the look now. See the attached running launcher pro.
That looks really good.
I wish I had seen this thread before you installed that new ROM. I would have told you that stickies are for sissies.
Do it all from the seat of your pants and depend on luck. That's what I say. (j/k)
Do you see that business about restoring all system data? I tried that yesterday, I think it was. Got a good install of Paragon RC5. I think I then tried a full system data restore from TiBu. Rebooted the phone and it started back up so that it required a PIN to unlock it. I guess because I had been using that function before install of RC5. The PIN did not work. Tried this method not only once, but twice. Finally figured out how to use TiBu for real, I think. Makes me wonder if these locking schemes are worth using. I suppose they might buy you just a little bit of time in case of theft.
If you get to jonesing for something new, check out the ROM mentioned above.
Glad you're happy with your efforts!
.
Glad to hear it all went well for you. And I like the look you got going there. Seems like you did great for your first time

send it via email. MMS compresses the picture for space to allow the file to send faster.
MMS wasn't really designed for large screens (i.e. a computer) it is for phone-to-phone messaging where the compression you're referring to wouldn't be very noticeable. If you're sending something to someone (or yourself) to be viewed on a computer, send it via email like akellar said. By the nature of Android, you already have a Gmail account on your phone, so you've got no reason not to.
I'm pretty sure USC has a limit on the file size of MMS too - so it may not be possible to attach a picture with a large resolution.

I thought so, too, but according to USCC's FAQ, it's 5MB, or I'm looking at the wrong place?
8. What are the size limitations for picture and video messages?
Picture and video messages sent between handsets are only limited by the phone model. For videos, 15 seconds is a good rule of thumb for maximum length.
Incoming picture and video messages from email are limited to 5MB.
For emails greater than 5MB: If an email is sent to a Picture and Video Messaging phone that exceeds the 5MB limit, the person sending the email will receive a 'Message Failure' email to indicate that the message is too large and therefore was unable to be sent. Users can check the total size of the email being sent to help predict if the email will exceed this limit.
For emails less than 5MB: Email messages less than the 5MB limit will be reduced to a size the phone can handle. The conversion process will lessen the quality of the picture or video along with the file size.

Although it says "email" in the quoted text, it is in the section for "Picture and Video Messaging" which it calls MMS toward the top of the section.
*shrugs*
It's not USCC compressing it, it's the phone. My wife's Blackberry sent pictures full resolution to my Blackberry. Now her same phone still sends it full rez, but my phone compresses it.
There are fixes for other phones to allow them full rez, I'm looking for one for this phone!
Thanks all

Yes, I've tried GO SMS and am currently using Handcent and it makes no difference. Thanks for the idea tho!
The mms can be modified to send full supported res of the phone. Then possibly receive also. But it depends on the phone the mms was sent from. Also us cellular has a 1mb limit.
Edit: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16907924/Mms.apk Dowload that and use root explorer to move it to system/app. Though make sure you force stop and clear the data for the stock mms in applications. I pulled that out of gas's rom but should work in mine and pick and pack if it is the ee19 mms. Enjoy
Edit2: Fixed link

Thank you!! Ok, I downloaded that and got it put in the system/app folder on my stock USCC ee19. I rooted it, then used root explorer. It didn't work! Do I need one of the other ROMs to make it work? If so could you please tell me exactly how?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just learning this!! I did use odin to flash back to stock 2.1 a month ago, but then used Kies to go to the newest 2.2 this week.
Thanks!
What rom you on? If stock ee19 it could be because you had odex files. I only mess with apps that aren't.
As for not working what do you mean by this? The app doesn't work or still the same issue?

Sorry, I meant still the same issue. I'm running the stock ee19 just released this past Tuesday. Sorry, I don't know what odex is?
Thanks for helping a newb!
Um the odex files is hard to explain but a google search will give you quicker better results than me trying to explain it. As for having the same issue I am not sure.
As the only settings are for sending a message. Which I changed. But if it is getting a picture. It depends on the phone that is sending it. As when a picture is sent every android resizes it. Along with dumb phones.
The only phone I know first hand that doesn't do this is the desire. Which would only be one on cm, possibly some on aosp roms. Then ones on the roms I did.
don't know why I waited so long... but here are a few questions I have:
1) it doesnt seem like I have google video chat I thought it came in 2.3.4? I might have restored the old talk binary from my titanium backup in which case do u guys know where I can get the apk?
2) under settings, status, about my phone number is showing as unknown. Did I screw up something?
3) it looks like the clock app bundled with cm7 only carries simple ringtones for the alarm, is there a way to put in some melodies?
4) my work email exchange account puts a restriction whereby I need a security pin on every unlock anyway to get around that?
5) Noticed that the 4G icon is only showing H, is that the same?

1) If you go on the cyanogenmod.com website, you should be able to find it along with Google apps. It's a separate download and will need to be flashed separately.
2) No mess up. Just put it back in.
3) You can simply put a folder hierarchy in your internal or external memory like this and put any alarm tones in the folder. It'll show up when you want to select an alarm. It should look like this:
ringtones/alarms/alarm1.ogg
4) No idea, sorry.
5) Same thing, no worries.

With the text thing just set a limit of 2-500 to keep things a bit tidy. Made the mistake when I first got my s3 to set it to unlimited. After 20k+ of buildup I wasnt able to delete messages anymore, had to let a program run for 5-6 hrs to delete them all. Also like any computer an occasional wipe can do wonders for performance (after backing everything up), whenever my s3 starts acting up I do a clean reflash of my rom and its back to 100%
Get rid of Touchwiz asap.

If you're rooted, and not on 4.3, get the Lagfix app.
It runs the fstrim commands on your flash storage partitions which help quite a bit if performance seems to be sluggish while loading apps.
Remove all unnecessary bloatware, install some custom rom (if you want better performance than touchwiz one+more available RAM), clean your cache using cache cleaner apps, don't use task killers 'cause they are unnecessary and eats RAM.
I found using Greenify on apps like Facebook really helps preventing slowdown and improves batterylife as well. However, it needs root.
I should have mentioned that i'm not rooted and would prefer not to do that as I'm completely new to it.

This sounds like the only suggestion that doesn't require rooting, correct? Any other non-rooted suggestions?
How do you set the limit on text messages? Is there any app that will allow me to delete messages that are older than a certain date? The ones I've found so far will only do all or by sender.

How can there not be anything I can do unless I root? My phone was plenty fast when I first got it and there was bloatware on it then too. There must be other ways to speed things up like cleaning out my cache and the like.

Just throwing it out there, but if you don't have root, you will never REALLY be able to optimize much. You're stuck with what Verizon and Sammy gave you... Rooting and installing cyanogenmod brought the lag next to nothing.

The stock messaging app allows you to set how many messages it keeps. You set x number of text messages and x number of mms messages. Open the message app and the click the settings button and there are the settings.

You can always restore it to its initial performance by factory resetting, independent of what ROM you are on. I just don't think touchwiz is as responsive out of the box as cyanogenmod. And I think cyanogenmod holds up to lots more apps and data being on the phone better compared to touchwiz.
People will argue that as always, its just my personal opinion

For pure stock rom 4.3:
1) Disable unused apps (bloatware)
2) limit SMS, MMS - no more than 500 (mine set to 200).
3) install cache cleaner app and schedule to clean cache weekly
4) Reboot your phone once a week or once every 2 weeks.(I do it before I hit the bed)
You phone should performance well.

1) For user download apps, just uninstall them. For system apps go into settings-> application-> tab on the all, this dispaly all the apps, if you selected a system app, open it and select disable, to the right you also see a tab for all the apps that you disabled and to re activate just open it up and tab on enable. Note: Not all system apps can be disable. If you don't see the option to disable then it can't.
2) You need a cache cleaner with a scheduler like:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.cache or
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bazinga.cacheclean
I have the Galaxy S7, 930F international version (Brand new). All works well, except the Messages app splits received group messages into individual threads. I have tried other texting apps and, for one reason or another, concluded that (for me) the stock Messages app would be best for me, if only this one flaw was corrected. Read a lot of threads similar to this but many seemed to address it for USA version. I'd like to maybe update the app, but can't seem to find a way to manually update this particular app (I can manually update nearly all of my stock apps, but this one is not allowed). Anyone have (what seems like) an easy fix. Again, my phone is the 930F international. Country info on the phone references United Arab Emeriates, if that helps. Otherwise, the phone is great!

Thank you. Yes, that's what I've been using, in lieu of the stock app. In fact, I have tried a multitude of replacement apps (you name it, I've tried it). But for one reason or another, they all fall short in something. Textra is not very good on voice-to-text and if I have to send a text while driving, or a long text while golfing, it's something I can't easily do with Textra. But the stock app is excellent on voice-to-text. Also, the stock app uses fewer clicks to locate and attach pics & video. In fact, for my liking, the only thing the stock app misses on is the threading for received group messages. But that's a biggie. Nothing worse than watching a football or basketball game remotely and texting a group of friends, and while you can send out your text in a group text, everyone's replies keeps showing up in a separate individual threads. Their replies (intended for the group) are then mixed in with private text conversations you've previously had with that same person. Ughhh!

Not sure what you mean. By "last release of Samsung" do u mean the latest version of the stock app? I tried to update it and the phone would not recognize that app as being able to manually update. If you mean update to marshmallow, I already have version version 6.0.1

Thank you very much. Does this require me to have a rooted phone? Also, will I lose my data and phone setup when flashing this?

Go into messaging app, hit more (top right corner) then settings, then more settings, them multimedia messages and make sure group conversation is ticked on and I also have auto retrieved ticked on, all other features are turned off. That's what fixed it for me, mine was the same way as yours before I changed those settings, it was very annoying! All is well now!
