Rooting procedure for SAMSUNG Galaxy Pocket Plus ( GT-S5301 )
WARNING!!! This solution provided as is (with no warranty of any kind). Be careful because the described operations rather dangerous and possibly can brick your device. Author is not responsible for your device damage.
IMPORTANT: Usage of this method will affect the state of the "Custom BIN down" counter in your device. This means that you may have problems with official warranty.
OTHER NOTICES: Solution based on ICS 4.0.4 Russian Stock firmware. It will not affect the data on your device (contacts, files etc.). No wipe\hard reset needed.
Step 1. Getting software
1. Download Odin 3.0.7 here
2. Download modified stock recovery here
3. Download update package for rooting here (downloaded from here Thanks to Phil3759)
4. Install Samsung drivers\kies from this page
P.S. Sorry for ugly file storage solution - google drive. If it will open the zip archive just click "File" menu and click "Download" (or use Ctrl+S combo).
Step 2. Flash the updates
1. Switch off the device. Hold "volume down"+"home" buttons and press power button. When device switch on release the power button but continue to hold volume down and home until Download mode warning appear. Plug in the USB cable and press volume up button to continue. The device will load in ODIN download mode.
2. Run ODIN 3.0.7. Don't change any setting (checkboxes ) - leave them in default state. Your device should appear in "ID:COM" part of the screen as serial device (i.e. "COM38") - if not check if your USB port is functional and Samsung drivers installed correctly.
3. Click on PDA button and chose modified recovery file saved during step 1.2. Don't rename or decompress the file - otherwise it will not work.
Wait until ODIN decompress the package and check the checksums. After it just press START button and wait until the process is over.
4. Copy update package for rooting on SD card and put the card in device's slot.
5. Switch off your device again. Hold "volume up"+"home" buttons and press power button to switch on. Don't release volume up and home until the recovery loaded. Using volume up and volume down buttons navigate to menu item "apply update from external card" and press power button to commit operation. Then navigate to Root_Superuser_3.1.3......zip file and press power button again.
6. Done. Your device should be rooted now. You can check it with various free programs like Root Checker available at Google Play.
You can restore the stock recovery using the same flashing procedure as described above. The stock recovery image is available here
====================
Additional notices:
- I will upload the full stock firmware repacked for ODIN in a couple of days. You can use it to restore your device to default state (except the Custom BIN down counter).
- If the counter really bothering you - just wait a little - I'll upload pre-rooted system partition package which does not affect the counter.
- Do not try just blindly install the CWM or TWRP recovery packages made for another devices. It will not work and can cause some problems because at least one difference is crucial - recovery.fstab file in most of cases will contain wrong information about partitions so you can brick your device. Now I'm working on porting CWM recovery for s5301 and I hope it will not take much time.
Take care

2013-05-27 UPDATE: CWM recovery (GUI issues) ***THIS ONE IS OBSOLETE - USE NEXT SECTION BELOW "UPDATE: Working CWM recovery (GUI problems fixed)"***
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
CWM Recovery for S5301 (coriplus) is now available. Unfortunately there is still an issue with screen resolution but I suppose I'll fix it very soon. Despite an uncomfortable picture those people who needs backup\restore feature urgently can use it right now. Everything seems to be functional but if you discover some issues - please let me know.
1. Fakeflash zip image is here. Use it from previousely flashed Hacked Stock recovery: pure stock recovery will not load it.
To run it - put the update.zip to sdcard, boot to recovery, navigate to "apply update from external card" and choose the update.zip. Done! Now you are in CWM recovery and you can backup\restore your system. After rebooting the recovery you will see the Hacked Stock recovery again (this is what fakeflash means - CWM loads in memory but after reboot you have your old recovery again. So keep the update.zip on SD card to use it again).
2. ODIN image is here. This one for those who really hates the stock recovery and ready to run CWM permanently even with ugly screen resolution. Flsh with ODIN as described above.
When I fix the screen resolution I'll inform you about it here.
Enjoy.

2013-06-13 UPDATE: The way how to get device rooted and CWM recovery flashed without affecting the counter
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a way to get root and CWM recovery without affecting the down bin counter:
Step 1: Flash the pre-rooted system partition via ODIN (it will not affect the counter and will not erase your personal data). Now you have rooted device but it is still has useless stock recovery.
Step 2: Copy recovery.img on SD card and insert it in your device.
Step 3: Turn the device on, wait untill OS loaded. Go to Settings -> Developer options and switch on the Usb Debugging.
Step 4: Connect USB cable, choose "Camera PTP" in USB PC Connection menu on your device - this menu appeares in notification area (that's important to get your sdcard mounted).
Step 5: Go to console on your PC and execute the following commands:
$ adb shell
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # dd if=/mnt/extSdCard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6
Voila! You have your device rooted, you have CWM recovery flashed and the down bin counter wasn't affected.

Hi, I didn't have an external sd card at this moment so what I did was flash CWM and then sideload the root package, pretty simple, so you can add this method as an alternative, it worked pretty good.

1) All fakeflash versions does not affect the counter (only the ODIN flashed images do it).
2) All fakeflashes are temporary (just loading in memory and active until reboot).
3) Unfortunately the stock recovery doesn't aloow to load CWM fakeflash or rooting package, so you need to flash CWM or at least hacked stock recovery via ODIN (an this operation will definitely affect the counter).
Take care

Obviously the sideload should work ok as it is one of CWM features After you flashed CWM you can use all its' tools - sdcard is just simple common scenario. Anyways thanks for feedback - I'll add notice regarding adb sideload in the main post )

Almost forget - I've uploaded the prerooted system.img as I promised (check 2013-06-08 UPDATE section of the main post in this thread).
Use ODIN to flash this image (PDA section).
It will not affect the counter. All your applications and personal data will survive because they are on another partition, but anyway It's strictly recommended to make a backup copy before flasing. As a result you'll get the rooted device without replacing stock recovery and without affecting the "down bin counter".

Actually the first post in this thread contains step-by-step description of rooting process. And it should work for any s5301 device. But judging by the signature of your post, you have s5300 device which is copletely different. So I suppose you have to search this forum for solution developed exactly for your device...

ONLY FOR GT-P5100 (3G model)!!! Do not flash on any other Galaxy Tab 2!!!
Download the ZIP (large, about 600MB) from here:
=> DOWNLOAD FROM HERE (HotFile)
How to use: Read the readme.txt file or this post here.
On to the safe stock restore process:
1. Make sure you have the Samsung device drivers installed before you begin. If you don't, install them from here:
- 64bit: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml

2. Make sure your tablet's battery is at least 30% charged up before you begin.
3. Make sure you have an external microSD inserted in the device, if you also plan on rooting afterwards. Nothing will be erased from the microSD, there is no need to worry about that.
4. Run procedure to flash back the stock ROM from Samsung (Ice Cream Sandwitch 4.0.3 - P5100XWALD7) from the folder "Step1-Stock". STOP HERE FOR PURE STOCK!!!
5. Run procedure to enable ClockworkMod recovery from the folder "Step2-Recovery". This step is OPTIONAL (only if you want a custom recovery). STOP HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT ROOT!!!
6. Run procedure to enable "root" access from the folder "Step3-Root".
7. Done! Enjoy! Profit!
===============================================================
========== Step 1 - Flashing Stock P5100XWALD7 ================
===============================================================
1. Download the file from the link above.
2. Shut down your tab.
3. Disconnect tab from USB and/or power cables.
4. Hold "Power+Volume UP" physical buttons on your tablet to initiate download mode.
5. Press "Volume DOWN" physical button on your tablet to confirm and enter ODIN mode.
6. On your PC, open "Odin3 v1.85.exe"
7. Press "PDA" button in ODIN and select the "PLATFORM_P5100XWALD7_482645_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5" file.
8. Press "PHONE" button and select the "MODEM_P5100XXLD7_REV_01_CL1128355.tar.md5" file.
9. Connect your tablet using a USB cable. In ODIN you should see the device "<added>" message appear. If you do not, there is a problem with the Samsung drivers installation.
10. Confirm that only the following options are checked in ODIN: "Auto Reboot", "F. Reset Time", "PDA", "PHONE". DO NOT CHECK RE-PARTITION!!! NEVER!!!
11. Click the big "Start" button and WAIT. Be patient!!! The process takes about 3-4 minutes but can take longer.
12. Do not power down the tablet while this takes place. Do not shut down your PC. Do not touch anything! Just wait! Get a coffee or something...
13. After full flash the tablet will reset automatically.
14. Congratulations you are now safely back to stock P5100XXALD6.
15. There is no need to flash the bootloader and CSC. Do so at your own risk.
===================================================================
========== Step 2 - Flashing ClockworkMod Recovery ================
===================================================================
1. Download the attached recovery file "p5100-recovery.tar.md5.zip" and extract it.

9. Confirm that only the following options are checked in ODIN: "Auto Reboot", "F. Reset Time", "PDA". DO NOT CHECK RE-PARTITION!!! NEVER!!!
10. Click the big "Start" button and wait a few seconds. Flashing recovery.img is super-fast!
11. After recovery flash, the tablet will reset automatically.
12. Congratulations you are now running recovery for your tablet.
13. Note: Internal SD is not working with this recovery, you must use external microSD cards to load up ZIPs.
14. You can also download and extract the kernel and flash it also on "PDA" if you want a rooted Kernel
=========================================================
========== Step 3 - Enabling root access ================
=========================================================

6. Use the "Volume UP" and "Volume DOWN" buttons to navigate (select options) and the "Power" button to select. Don't HOLD the buttons, just press them (like a click or something).
7. Select the option to install ZIP from sdcard.
8. Navigate to where you copied the "CWM-root-P5100-v1.zip" file and select it.
9. Wait for the operation to complete.
10. Navigate back and select option to "Reboot system"
11. Congratulations you have a fresh stock ROM with CWM and root ready to go!
12. Enjoy

Ah damnit lol this was almost what i was looking for. I need the one for the wifi version.
Do you think the recovery would be the same? Thats the only part i really need lol.
Nvmind i see its all in one file lol
Recovery is in an independent folder, you don't flash the initial zip lol.
Anyway, the recovery and root steps should apply to p5110 as well.

Thank you for all the hard work. I'm sure my Willy nilly ways will require me to use this

Hi,
I see that in your instructions for flashin stock do not use file "BOOTLOADER_P5100XXALD6_365113_REV02_user_low_ship. tar.md5" which is otherwise included in the package, does that mean that it did not necessarily use one?
When it is necessary to use that file?
Thanks.
Updating the bootloader is not required.
Playing with bootloaders is very risky and dangerous in general (can permanently brick tab).
Bootloader is responsible for the download mode. If you can access it and flash using odin, there is no need to mess with it. Upgrading it may result in a locked boot mode, meaning you can't flash custom stuff anymore.
I included only the required files and steps so you guys don't have to look for the right combination.
Peace,
C.
Thank you for the file sir oh sir.

How did you capture the stock recovery from the device? I would like to do the same from my GT-P5113, but (of course) one has to flash CWM first to get access, and that overwrites the recovery.
Stock recovery comes with the stock ROM, so you need to overwrite it, not capture it.
But, to clarify the issue, you can root your device without a custom recovery. After you root, you can dump system images using the "dd" command.
Rooting using CWM zips is just more convenient and easier for everyone, it's not the only option, though. There was root before recovery...

I know that the final goal is to overwrite the recovery to get the benefits of CWM (e.g.). But if you want to save the *stock* recovery first, you need to capture/dump it from the device somehow before flashing (correct me if my logic here is incorrect).
Also, yes, I know a good way to dump it is with "dd", but one needs root to do that (I tried for the hell of it, to see if there was non-root read access, but alas, no).
I think you have hit upon my question regarding root: did you root the tab without flashing CWM? If so that will allow "dd" to capture the stock recovery, yes. If you used CWM, that you overwrote the recovery, and you would not have been able to save the stock recovery in that case.
I have not found a rooting method for the GT-P5113 that does not involve flashing CWM, so I cannot figure out how to same my stock recovery, which I would like to do before flashing CWM (and thereby losing the stock recovery forever).
I obviously dumped the recovery before I flashed CWM, otherwise it wouldn't be stock.
If I get you right, you want to know the root exploit I used to root my p5100 to get suid and be able to copy the "su" binary. In fact, getting elevated rights on a linux system if you have direct access to it is not rocket science. However, because that's a lot to write, here is a more simple solution you can apply to get a stock recovery that I didn't have at the time:
1. Go to samfirmware.com and download a stock rom for your device.
2. Extract the .tar.md5 files and get the "recovery.img" out of them. Usually the "boot" and "platform" files have one inside.
I reckon all p51xx devices have the same recovery anyway, but it might not be the case.

Hi, yes, that's exactly right - I wanted to know how you got elevated rights in order to use dd for this.
I really want the recovery image from *my* stock tablet - not one off the net.
Could you private message me, if you are uncomfortable talking about it here. I am well-versed in Linux (I've done kernel development, I'm part of the Gentoo Linux dev team, etc.), so I am no stranger to Linux. I know there are exploits now and then, but they are not usually trivial. If you found a new one for the current kernel, then I'm impressed, and please do tell. If you found the exploit somewhere on the net, can you send me a link?
Thanks, Joe
Well, I must admit I actually took my time thinking whether I should actually write a reply :-D
However, my main concern is having to write a lot to explain stuff, but considering you are a kernel dev, this should be easy peasy. In short, I didn't force my way in, I just *convinced* the system to let me in. It's an inherent problem of Android, in fact:
1. Extracted the boot.img and unpacked it.
2. Replaced the adbd binary in the ramdisk with an unsecure one.
3. Repackaged and flashed using ODIN.
4. Used adb root to get into the system, the *regular* way. Once adbd lets
5. Installed su and superuser.apk.
There is no need to exploit the kernel if the system is inherently flawed when it comes to direct access (adb root exists). Any and all Android devices that use this layout (boot.img) can be rooted this way. Sorry to disappoint you about the exploit, but I am no *real* dev. I just know my way around :-D
PS: You can get the latest boot.img I did for this purpose here
Hope it helps with your recovery dump,
C.

Very interesting - that was my missing piece of the puzzle - I had not realized one could replace the adbd. Makes sense. I will certainly give this all a try! I may be experienced with Linux, but I have a lot less background in android internals; learning quickly, though. In fact, my next project (when I get some time) is to try building the GT-P5113 ROM from source (and also some delving into AOSP). Being able to customize at the source level would be very cool.

I would be eternally grateful if you could post the stock rom for the 5113 (including stock recovery) if you can. I would settle for just the stock recovery in flashable form via odin etc.
A read through Samsung's kernel source reveals that the governors are already coded into the kernel (install voltage control and you can switch between governors and schedulers at will).
It looks like the set stock speed on the 10.1 5113 is 1008MHz.
Does anyone know how/where in the kernel overclocking is programmed?
The source also looks pretty comprehensive for the tablet and apparently is very similar to that of the 7" tab. I imagine it wouldn't be too hard for a veteran coder to fix this up for the 10" users.
I haven't coded in years and I'm not familiar enough with Android to do anything but attempt to compile the source from Samsung.
Hi,
Does this work on P5100XXLD6 ?

Samsung Made The Skyrocket Very Easy To Flash Custom Roms And/or Root The Phone.
There Is No Bootloader To Unlock.
The Skyrocket Has Four Main Partitions > Recovery - Radio - Kernel - System.
All Custom Roms Only Have The Kernel And The System , Which I/We Refer To As "The Rom".
No Custom Roms Include The Recovery And/or Radio Other Than Full Stock Firmwares.
The Recovery Is A Seperate Standalone File/partition And As Such It Is Not Tied/linked/combined To The Rom And/or Kernel.
Odin Is A Windows Program For Installing Stock Firmwares And Recoveries Onto Samsung Phones But We Can Use It To Install A "Custom" Recovery.
The First And Foremost Thing You Need To Do To Your Skyrocket Is To Replace The Stock Recovery Called "3e" With A Custom Recovery Called "TWRP" To Be Installed With The Program Called "Odin", Its Easy And Takes Less Than One Minute.
After Installing The TWRP Custom Recovery With Odin Your Phone Will Bootup To Exactly What You Had Before - It Does Not Touch The Android Operating System On Either Stock Firmwares Or Custom Roms, All Your Stuff Will Be Untouched, Unless You Boot Into Recovery You Would Never Know That You Had Installed It.
Once A Custom Recovery Is Installed You Can Then Install Other Custom Recoveries, Root The Phone, Flash Custom Roms, Kernels, Radios/modems, Bootanimations, Apps Or Any Other Flashable Zip File That You Find Here In The Skyrocket Xda Forum
Using Odin is Not Required Or Needed Anymore Unless You Reinstalled Stock Recovery Via Flashing Full Stock Firmware Or The Standalone Stock Recovery.
Links To The Recovery Zip Files Are In The 1stop Sticky
To Install Custom Roms On Stock Phones w/twrp installed You do Not Need To Root The Phone, Just Follow The Devs Instructions In Their Op On Installing The Custom Rom.
Root Is Only Required if You Are On Stock Samsung Att/Rogers Firmwares And Need To Remove Bloatware And/or Modify System Files, Root Is Not Needed To Install Any Roms Or Recoveries
I Reiterate: You Need To Install A Custom Recovery before You Can Flash Custom Roms Or Root The Phone, You Do not Need To Root The Phone To Install Custom Roms Or Custom Recoveries.
Stock Phones = Use Odin To Flash TWRP Custom Recovery
Staying On Stock w/Custom Recovery = Flash Root Files From 2nd Post.
Flashing Any Custom Roms = If On Stock Recovery Then Use Odin To Flash TWRP Custom Recovery, Dont Waste Your Time Rooting.
Almost Everything For And About The Skyrocket Is In The 1STOP STICKY

PEREQUISTE: PHONES USB PORT WORKING AND RECOGNIZED BY PC. DRIVERS FOR USB INSTALLED CORRECTLY. IF NOT INSTALLED USE EITHER USB DRIVERS FILES OR INSTALL KIES WHICH INSTALLS USB DRIVERS
MAKE SURE KIES, ADB OR ANYTHING THAT HAS USB ACCESS LIKE VM'S ARE NOT RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND - CHECK WITH WINDOWS TASK MANAGER.
IF PHONES USB PORT IS DEAD THERES NO WAY TO INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY AND AS SUCH YOUR STUCK ON STOCK FIRMWARE W/NO WAY TO ROOT THE STOCK FIRMWARE. DONT BELIEVE ANYONE THATS SAYS OTHERWISE.
NOTE: THIS METHOD IS ONLY FOR WINDOWS, ODIN IS A WINDOWS PROGRAM FOR INSTALLING STOCK FIRMWARES AND RECOVERIES ONTO SAMSUNG PHONES.
FOR MAC'S YOU NEED TO USE HEIMDALL OR USE BOOT CAMP, I DONT HAVE A MAC SO I CANT HELP YOU THERE.
NOTE: MICROSOFTS INTERNET BROWSER SOMETIMES HAS ISSUES DL'ING "TAR.MD5" FILES, IF HAVING A MD5 ERROR USE FIREFOX or CHROME BROWSERS TO DOWNLOAD THE TAR.MD5 FILES.

1. HOW TO INSTALL TWRP RECOVERY :
FOR ANY AND ALL STOCK FIRMWARES OR CUSTOM ROMS
NEWBS: READ THE WHOLE POST X2 B4 YOU PROCEED.
1. GETTING PHONE INTO DOWLOAD MODE(aka odin mode):
AT NO TIME IS THE POWER BUTTON TOUCHED FOR THIS PROCEDURE.
Download mode is NOT the same as recovery mode
a. Remove and Reinsert the battery, have usb cable inserted to computer usb port but NOT to your phone until step (c).
b. ATT PHONES - Press and keep down both Volume Up and Volume Down buttons simultaneously.
ROGERS PHONES - Press and keep down only the Volume Down button.
DO NOT RELEASE THE VOLUME BUTTON(S) UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO IN STEP (d)
c. While still holding the volume button(s) down insert the USB cable into your device.
The phone will turn itself on when usb cable is inserted.
* KEEP VOLUME BUTTON(S) PRESSED - DO NOT TOUCH THE POWER BUTTON *
d. When You see the screen warning you about installing a custom OS w/a yellow triangle RELEASE the volume button(s)

e.
1ST PIC: Now press and release the volume "up" button, you should now be at the Download Mode screen w/odin recognizing your phone.
2ND PIC: this is also download/odin mode - the screen will display this when odin or kies has failed/not completed a previous flash, just continue following the procedure and/or read "section #3 troubleshooting odin" below.
1ST PIC >>
....
2ND PIC >>
2. DOWNLOAD twrp-3.0.0-0-skyrocket.tar.md5 - DO NOT CHANGE THE FILE NAME.
3. DOWNLOAD Odin-1.85.zip , Extract the contents of odin-185.zip to a folder, within that folder start "Odin3 v1.85.exe" .
4. Prepare Odin: Check "auto-reboot" and UNCHECK ALL OTHER OPTIONS.
Only Click "PDA" and navigate/select the TWRP tar.md5 file you downloaded from step #2.
DO NOT! CHECK "REPARTITION" IN ODIN! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! SEE COMPUTER SREEN PICS BELOW.
ON YOUR COMPUTER THIS IS WHAT YOUR SCREEN MUST LOOK LIKE WHEN YOUR PHONE IS IN DOWNLOAD MODE AND ODIN IS RECOGNIZING YOUR PHONE BEFORE YOU HIT THE START BUTTON.
5. Click Start in Odin. It will flash the new recovery and will reboot the phone when completed.
ON YOUR COMPUTER THIS IS WHAT YOUR SCREEN MUST LOOK LIKE WHEN ODIN HAS FINISHED FLASHING YOUR PHONE
IF YOU HAD ERRORS OR PROBLEMS USING ODIN, GO TO SECTION 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING ODIN
If All Went Well Then You are done using ODIN.
6. UPDATING TWRP
How To Enter Recovery Mode Is In Section #2 Below
Do Not Use Odin To Flash "Zip" Files.
LINKS TO RECOVERY ZIP FILES ARE IN THE 1STOP THREAD
TWRP
Read The TWRP THREAD To See If New Updates Have Any Bugs
PREFERRED METHOD: You can use a flashable zip file to be used by TWRP recovery, check in the 1STOP STICKY in the recovery section for latest files, copy the "zip" file to your sdcard and install it via the custom recovery and reboot back into recovery to see if it installed correctly.
ALTERNATE METHOD #1: TWRP now has odin flashable tar files , check HERE for latest TAR FILE to be used by ODIN. - WARNING - these are not tar.md5 files so check the HASH before flashing
ALTERNATE METHOD #2: using img files read this
7. You're done newbie and soon to be a power user, read and educate yourself as much as you can before flashing, happy flashing. :fingers-crossed:
2. HOW TO ENTER INTO THE RECOVERY MODE
ENTERING IN TO RECOVERY MODE IS THE SAME METHOD FOR BOTH ATT AND ROGERS SKYROCKETS.
ENTERING IN TO RECOVERY MODE IS THE SAME METHOD FOR BOTH STOCK AND A CUSTOM RECOVERY.
RECOVERY AND DOWNLOAD(ODIN) MODES ARE NOT THE SAMETHING
Now turn off your phone, unplugged(might work plugged in)
Press and keep both volume keys down
Then press the power button while still holding down the volume keys
When you feel the phone vibrate or see a logo on the screen, release the power button but not the volume keys.
When screen goes black release the volume keys.
Wait a few seconds to boot in to recovery
You are now in recovery mode
.
3. TROUBLESHOOTING ODIN
If Odin Shows An md5 Error Redownload The File Again
If Odin hangs at "Getting PIT for mapping" or giving a pit error - Read This Thread and post number 15 for solution
If the phone boots into any rom, make sure windows can transfer from and to internal and external sdcards to rule out driver issues
Does kies recognize your phone, even if you are on a custom rom kies will recognize your phone, this rules out driver issues
Make Sure You Are In Download Mode On Your Phone
If having trouble getting into dl mode try this>> take out the battery and leave it out. Plug the phone into the micro usb cable. Plug the USB end into your comp. Hold volume rockers down(either both or vol "-") and reinsert the battery
Make Sure Kies, Adb Or Anything That Has Usb Access Like Vm's Are Not Running In The Background or Running As A Service - Check With Windows Task Manager.
Restart computer
Make sure battery is charged
Try different usb port, preferably the rear ones on computer
Use original samsung usb cable, or try different cable but still oem
Uninstall drivers and kies, unplug phone & reboot comp, then just reinstall the USB Drivers from here
Try a different computer
Clean phones usb port w/no battery installed
If Phone Boot Loops Or Enters Into Recovery Mode While Trying To Get Into Download Mode(and you are sure you followed above procedure and also did not touch the power button), You Could Have A Stuck Power Button. To Fix That Try To Repeatedly Keep Pushing The Power Button Hard To Try To Unstick It. To Read More About The "Sticky" Power Button Problem Goto the 1STOP info section.
If you tried ALL of above tests and phone is not recognized by your computer you then have a hardware problem with the phones usb port. Read this for possible fix - FIX FOR PHONES USB PORT
4. WHAT IS AND WHY DO YOU NEED A CUSTOM RECOVERY
YOUR PHONE COMES STOCK WITH A PROGRAM WE CALL RECOVERY 3e.
TWRP ARE CUSTOM RECOVERIES THAT REPLACES THE STOCK RECOVERY 3e.
ON STOCK FIRMWARE YOU NEED TO USE ODIN TO INSTALL THE TAR FILE(NOT THE ZIP FILE) OF A CUSTOM RECOVERY TWRP, ITS THE FIRST AND FOREMOST THING TO DO TO YOUR SKYROCKET TO BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ELSE TO YOUR PHONE.
ONCE A CUSTOM RECOVERY HAS BEEN INSTALLED YOU CAN THEN BE ABLE TO INSTALL OTHER CUSTOM RECOVERIES, CUSTOM ROMS, ROOT THE PHONE AND INSTALL FLASHABLE "ZIP" FILES.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE ROOTED TO FLASH A CUSTOM RECOVERY
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE ROOTED TO FLASH CUSTOM ROMS
FLASHING TWRP BY WHATEVER METHOD USED IS NOT ROOTING
INSTALLING A COMPLETE FULL STOCK FIRMWARE WILL REVERT THE CUSTOM RECOVERY BACK TO STOCK RECOVERY.
THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO ROOT THE SKYROCKET WITH OUT TWRP
CUSTOM ROMS ARE ALREADY ROOTED: FOLLOW DEVS INSTR.
IF YOU DID HAVE ROOT AND FLASHED STOCK FIRMWARE BY WHATEVER METHOD YOU WILL LOSE ROOT.
YOUR PHONE WILL NOT LOSE APPS OR SETTINGS EITHER BY ROOTING OR FLASHING TWRP UNLESS "YOU" PERFORMED A WIPE/RESET
THE PROCRDURES OUTLINE IN THESE TWO PAGES DOES NOT TRIP THE FLASH COUNTER
DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER TO INSTALL AND/OR UPDATE CWM

UNINSTALL BUSYBOX GOTO SETTINGS/APPLICATIONS/ SELECT ALL/ SELECT BUSYBOX AND HIT UNINSTALL(if no uninstall option, choose disable).
REBOOT INTO CWN AND CONTINUE W/THE TUTORIAL WHERE YOU FLASH THE busybox-su-pack-cwm5.zip FILE.
5. EXPLANATION OF WHAT THE SU FILES DO
When you install the SuperSU-0.93-Busybox-1.20.2.zip with CWM it installs SU and BUSYBOX and SuperSU (su needs busybox to work properly)
SU "ROOTS" your phone, it gives you SU(superuser) status.
You are now 100% rooted when you installed that file.
The problem is you have no control of what app has root privilges.
SuperSU gives the user control of what app has root privilges.
When an app requests root access, SuperSU intercedes and you see popup window to allow or deny acess to the SU binary(the file you flashed in CWM).
Thats my best way of explaining it, if someone has a better way let me know
6. INFO ON ROOT: PLEASE READ IT
DONT USE ROM MANAGER TO INSTALL OR UPDATE CWM.
YOUR PHONE WILL BE REMAIN EXACTLY THE SAME WHEN ROOTING OR FLASHING TWRP/CWM WITH THE ADDITION OF A NEW RECOVERY AND THE SUPERSU APP WHEN FOLLOWING THIS TUTORIAL.
ROOTING ALLOWS USER TO CUSTOMIZE THEIR PHONES BY REMOVING SO CALLED BLOATWARE AND OTHER APPS THAT COME PREINSTALLED ON THE PHONE.
YOU DO NEED A CUSTOM RECOVERY TO ROOT
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE ROOTED TO FLASH A CUSTOM RECOVERY
YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE ROOTED TO FLASH CUSTOM ROMS
BUT YOU DO NEED A CUSTOM RECOVERY(TWRP/CWM) TO FLASH ROMS
FLASHING TWRP/CWM BY WHATEVER METHOD USED IS NOT ROOTING
THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO ROOT THE SKYROCKET WITH OUT FIRST INSTALLING A CUSTOM RECOVERY CWM/TWRP.
CUSTOM ROMS ARE ALREADY ROOTED: FOLLOW DEVS INSTR.
IF YOU DID HAVE ROOT AND FLASHED STOCK FIRMWARE BY WHATEVER METHOD YOU WILL LOSE ROOT.
YOUR PHONE WILL NOT LOSE APPS OR SETTINGS BY ROOTING OR BY ONSTALLING TWRP/CWM UNLESS "YOU" PERFORMED A WIPE/RESET

true, but just updating a step by step for rooting as i see too many post asking how to root the new ics
im not saying drumlords doesnt work, i have not tested that one myself, but these instructions seems bulletproof for newbs and the file mohan provides has bbox already included and me and mohan have tested it to work on stock ics with little fuss for the user to implement
Excellent, thank you very much for the updated information. Now I can worry less about using guides from 1-2 years ago lol.
I tried every one click option I could find just for the hell of it, superoneclick, doomlord, gingerbreak, and others and absolutely positivly without a doubt I can say they do not work... this is the only method I found to work on any ics firmware leaked or official

Just to verify again, entering into recovery for rogers phones is still only the up volume key? Just want to make sure because the two points I bolded seem contradictory so I want to be 100% sure before I do this myself
Recovery and download mode are 2 diffwrent things.
Recovery is the same for rogers and att phones
Download mode is different though between the 2 phones. Rogers phones you hold only the volume down button when plugging in the usb cable to get phone into download mode, then release the volume down key then press volume up key to see the download screen
Att phones you have to press both volume buttons down when plugging in usb cable to get into dl mode then release both volume keys, then press the volume up key to see dl mode screen
i edited the op to clarify that

You can't stickey it the mods have to lol... you say you don't plan on rooting but I would say why not? Have you weighed the advantages over disadvantages. The only disadvantage is loss of warranty but the advantages are way to many to list them all but a few are
1. Control over your device.
2. Apps like titanium backup that allow you to backup and restore apps without loss of data being able to remove or freeze those unwanted apps.
3. Root access to system files and folders.
And much much more. Also with cwm recovery you can make backups of your current rom you can restore later if something were to mess up on your phone.... just some friendly advice for you to consider and maybe even research on. If you decide to root and get stumped just pm me and I will help you....

im 99.99999% sure that this method would work on leaks and gb, just not enough to say confirmed, but i might have time tonite to test it on the leaks and gb and then be able to say it works 100%

I agree... too many advantages over the warranty issue. for starters, freezing all the bloatware will make your battery last longer. NOT seeing them in the list of apps is awesome!! (yeah, i get irritated just scrolling thru a bunch of useless app. Titanium backup is a definite plus. Not to mention a slew of apps that are specifically for rooted device. ;-)
I didn't bother to download/flash new ROM. The ICS from ATT works ok for me. If it is not broke.. I ain't changing it! :good:
Disclaimer: I will not be held responsible for any damage to your device. You are following this tutorial at your own risk (not to discourage anyone, though as safe as this process maybe I will not take blame for anyone's bad luck). Apart from the tutorial explanation and some pictures I do not own any of the methods/tools/ROMs/FW in this tutorial/guide, I respect the works done here by the developers and I have no involvement in there works neither am I claiming so
Optional: download the android SDK
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Some Common Knowledge
Stock Firmware: Is needed when you get your phone stuck in a boot-loop(not getting past the splash/start-up screen) OR if you're having trouble updating through OTA updates or Kies (I had my share of both)
Odin: Is used to Flash a stock/Official FW and in Galaxy R's case CWM as well
CWM: This is needed to back up your device's current FW and to install custom ROMs
Super User: This thing gives you root access
Custom ROMs: For when the stock FW seems too dull or when you need to tweak your device to your liking. For the sake of keeping this guide simple and "streamlined" this would not be discussed in this post
This Tutorial assumes that you have little or no knowledge on flashing/modifying your phone's OS/Firmware
Things you'll need:
1. Odin
2. CWM
3. Super User
4. Flashable ROM/Firmware available here Courtesy of The-Droidster
5. A FULLY CHARGED Galaxy R aka Royale aka Galaxy Z (aka Galaxy S2's adopted brother aka Loki Get it cuz it's low key )
6. A USB data cable
7. A PC (I'm using a windows PC)
8. Patience and time
For Personal ease keep all downloads in a separate folder dedicated for Android "Hacking"
STEP 1A: Downloading/installing Tools
Extract Odin
CWM DO NOT EXTRACT
From the link above download Super User shown here: DO NOT EXTRACT

}
STEP 1B: Downloading Firmware
Open the Official ROM link provided and choose the Firmware you like (Depending upon region/languages and OS version)
After Downloading the zip file extract it
You Should get either:
1. Three additional .tar/.tar.md5 files DO NOT EXTRACT THESE
OR
2. A single .tar/.tar.md5 file DO NOT EXTRACT THIS
The extracted files should look like this:
STEP 2: Set up
Turn off your FULLY CHARGED phone (It's better to have a fully charged phone but above 50% is good too)
Open Odin from the folder:
.
.
Allow it run:
.
.
Set it up like this making sure everything else is unchecked
.
.
Now put the phone in Download Mode. On your phone press and hold the volume down, home and power buttons as shown (power button last)
.
.
The following screen would appear:
Press the Volume up button (Because you're a bad ass!)
Now connect the USB data cable with the phone and computer
After a few minutes (of downloading the drivers) you should see this:
Now everything is setup and you can start flashing/Installing a Firmware
STEP 3: Flashing the phone.
As mentioned before you would have either 3 or just 1 .tar/.tar.md5 files from extracting the FW
Here is how you put the extracted files in Odin.
For three files
The file containing the word CODE goes in PDA
The file containing the word MODEM goes in PHONE
The file containing the word CSC goes in CSC
AS Shown here:
For a single .tar/ .tar.md5 file, place the file in the PDA
Click Start and wait for the Yellow rectangle to go green and you're done.
The phone will start automatically and take a few minutes on first boot (so be patient)
And you've Flashed your phone! Hoorah!
Now on to CWM and Root!
Place the Super User .zip file and the Custom ROM .zip in the internal SD of the phone (not the SD card)
STEP 4: Clockwork Recovery Mod aka CWM
Launch Odin, keeping the previous settings
Click the PDA button and open the CWM file: it should look like this
Turn off your phone
Put it in to Download Mode using the volume down, Home and Power Buttons.
Connect the device and PC
Be a Bad ass again!
Hit Start on Odin
Wait for Reboot! ....aaaaand then turn off!
Turn the device ON
After seeing the GalaxyR logo immediately hit the VOLUME UP and HOME buttons
If you see this:
Congratulations! You just installed CWM
STEP 5: Super User/Root access
Note: Recovery navigates using power up and down and to enter the power button
From the CWM select "Install zip from sdcard"
Look for the Super User .zip file and select it
Select yes to install
Reboot!
Now you would have a super user icon in your apps!
Congratulations! You just rooted your phone!

I even added pretty pictures
Very well written!
Good job buddy! This could just be the new one stop thread for flashing, rooting and installing cwm for Galaxy R!
However there are a few subtle changes that I would like to mention!
1. BEFORE YOU BEGIN
download the android SDK It is important for installing drivers and tools etc
Not so mandatory for the purpose of flashing and rooting! Drivers get installed automatically, when the device is connected to the PC(Be sure you have Internet connectivity just in case windows has to look up for updated drivers!)
2. Things you'll need:
1. Odin
2. CWM
Use this link for the CWM recovery! It has been optimised by Adam and does not need to be extracted!
As such make corrections here as well:
Extract Odin and CWM (DO NOT EXTRACT the zip folder inside the CWM)
From the link above download Super User shown here: DO NOT EXTRACT
3. STEP 1B: Downloading Firmware
Open the Official ROM link provided and choose the Firmware you like (Depending upon region/languages and OS version)
After Downloading the zip file extract it
You Should get three additional .zip/.tar/.rar files DO NOT EXTRACT THESE
The extracted files should look like this:
You are being very specific here! The 3 files format is not applicable to all ROM's for Galaxy R. Rather almost all the Stock ROM's come as a single *.tar or *.tar.md5 package that is directly loaded into the PDA section of ODIN! No other files are required!
So please make corrections at relevant places like here:As mentioned before you would have 3 .zip/.tar files from extracting the FW
Here is how you put the extracted files in Odin.
The file containing the word CODE goes in PDA
The file containing the word MODEM goes in PHONE
The file containing the word CSC goes in CSC
4. [*]Reboot! ....aaaaand then turn off!
Odin always Auto Reboots the device after flashing. So no need to manually do that.
5. Now the most important thing:
I recommend that you completely remove the section for flashing custom ROM's.
Reason: Each Custom ROM developer will have his/her own method of installing the ROM. Though most of it is generic, still there are quite a few steps that are different for each ROM. So the discussion regarding installing a custom ROm better be kept confined to the thread of that particular ROM. As such it would be wise to remove all references to Customs ROM's from the guide. Keep it focused on the three imp. things...which you already have done very well!:good:
Thnx!
Good Job

thanks a lot buddy, yes , old tutorial was there but your's is much more newbee friendly and elobrated :good:
How perfect of you to make this thorough guide right now!
I am having KIES issues and was just in need of this "three-step" procedure for flashing stock and restoring CWM. (I'm not sure if I can flash stock through CWM, therefore I just overwrite CWM and redo the whole thing).
BR, Martin
By the way, there's a mistake in the OP.
You are writing "After seeing the GalaxyR logo immediately hit the VOLUME UP and POWER buttons"
which should say VOLUME UP and HOME buttons.
And tbh why bother to do this, if someone is already repacking every stock firmware with CWM? So that everything is done on automatic basic?

Yup buddy, confirmed. There's definitely some problem with the images. I can only see the final CWM image. All other images are broken. Tried with different browsers. Why don't you re-upload them to a site like postimg.com?
EDIT: Scratch that! The images are back on Might be some temporary problem with the image hosting site!

Ok I'm going to drop a tip to justin about this guide! Who knows maybe this becomes THE one stop thread for flashing replacing the current one!
But before that could you plz implement these few changes?
Things you'll need:
1. Odin
2. CWM
3. Super User
4. Flashable ROM/Firmware available here Courtesy of The-Droidster
5. Optional Custom ROM (Not Discussed in this post... sorry)

7. A USB data cable
8. A PC (I'm using a windows PC)

CWM :DO NOT EXTRACT
From the link above download Super User shown here: DO NOT EXTRACT
Open the Official ROM link provided and choose the Firmware you like (Depending upon region/languages and OS version)

You Should get
3 additional *.tar or *.tar.md5 files DO NOT EXTRACT THESE OR
Get a single *.tar or *.tar.md5 file DO NOT EXTRACT THIS
The extracted files should look like this:
STEP 3: Flashing the phone.
As mentioned before you would have either 3 or just 1 *.tar or *.tar.md5 files from extracting the FW
[*] For a single *.tar or *.tar.md5 file, place the file in the PDA

Actually I have stated here already :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861954
The mmc_cap_erase bug can actually takes place at the very first time just after the device rebooted with ICS firmware. And if you just switch off the device after flashing the kernel in order to flash the CWM. There is a chance that your device is already bricked during this process. The only safe method to do this is to replace the recovery image inside the stock firmware with a secured CWM (which using a flawless kernel), such that you have a chance to immediately flash a kernel in CWM after the device rebooted.
When the device is rebooted automatically after using odin, it will get into recovery mode first before going any further, therefore no damage can be done as the device never booted with a flawed kernel.
Therefore the method OP mentioned is actually unsafe as well.
oh btw, it is funny to see how many people that are using Galaxy tab 10.1 have bricked their device after updating to ICS 4.0.4, it seems like none of their users / devs have found that MMC_CAP_ERASE is enabled on their device as well lol But I guess I will just make a thread in a minute or so to get them noticed.

Oh well! I think now I understand what u r trying to convey. I found it a bit difficult to understand by reading the original thread that you created.
So what you are trying to say is:
After flashing the repacked ROM that you have provided via ODIN, the device won't boot into the OS! Rather it would boot directly into CWM that you have packed into the ROM. This way you can flash a secure kernel before the first boot itself! So there's no risk of bricking bcoz the Stock kernel won't ever be loaded! Ingenious my boy! Great!:good: How long have you been playing around with this?
Having said that, the guide the OP has posted is not only about flashing ICS ROM's but also for GB ROM's. What the OP can do is add an exception for ICS ROM's and a link to your repacked ROM would fit in well I guess!

Heya,
Since there is not enough info on the web regarding the rooting procedure for Videocon A55 HD and custom recovery for this awesomely smooth device, I'm uploading the necessary files and step by step guide. Hope it helps all the users of this device.
Remember rooting would tamper the warranty of the device and should be exercised carefully. The procedures mentioned below have been personally tested by me however I take no responsibility in case you ruin your device although I would be here to help you in such a scenario. Besides this the rooting script was not created by me and all the credit goes to the respective developer.
1. Rooting Procedure
Make sure you have enabled "USB Debugging" under Developer Options on your phone.
Keep your phone disconnected from computer via USB
a) Download and Install the ADB Interface driver for MTK 6589
Link to ADB Drivers
b) Download and extract the rooting package
Link to the Rooting Package
c) Now go to the extracted package and open a command prompt to that location as Administrator.
d) Type run.bat in Command Prompt and a message must appear "Press enter to root your phone..."
e) Press any key
f) Now after a few seconds the message should be " * daemon started successfully *"
g) Now connect your phone via USB to the computer
h) The cmd would automatically start pushing the necessary files onto your phone and when the process completes your phone will restart
Now you are rooted. To check install any Root checker application from playstore. Remember to grant permission while running Root Checker app when a pop up appears. It is suggested to update the SuperSU app from playstore and execute it at least once after that to update the su binary. You can also update the busybox package from playstore because busybox supplied with the rooting package is pretty old.
2. Installing CWM Recovery
Okie, since you are now rooted, most likely you would require a custom recovery to create full nandroid backups or test different ROMs. The CWM recovery provided here was created using MTKDroid Tools and is version 5.x (Non Touch). Again all credit goes to the developer of MTKDroid Tools for making such a powerful piece of software.
a) Download and extract the recovery package.
Link to CWM 5.x and Original Recovery for A55 HD
b) There are two files in the package , one is the custom CWM recovery and the other one is Stock Recovery (Names are pretty self understood)
c) Copy "Custom_Recovery_CWM_A55HD.img" to the root of your SD card
d) Rename it to "recovery.img"
e) Install Mobile Uncle Tools [MUT] from the playstore.
f) Open MUT and go to recovery update
g) Now you must see the recovery.img in a list. Just select it and follow the pop ups.
h) Now your phone would restart.
i) To check if the recovery update was successful, go to MUT and select "Reboot into Recovery" and your phone would most likely start in CWM recovery..
Alternative to get into recovery mode is to Press Power button + Volume Down key together when switched off.
3. Stock ROM for Videocon A55 HD
Okie, here we go, as I mentioned that I had got hold of the stock rom, so here I'm publishing it. The credit goes to Pratap Solunke (psolunke) for providing the Factory ROM zip.
I have just divided it into update.zip and files for SPFT for ease of downloading. Besides I have splitted each section into 4 parts and reuploaded it so you can download them at your ease. I'm providing the link for the whole folder which includes the changelog, update.zip and files for SPFT.
The ROM version is V7 (2013.07.15) which is different from the original ROM which was V5 (2013.06.08).
You can read the changelog for the updates in this ROM.
Link to ROM Folder
If using update.zip to flash this ROM, then
Step 1. Open the update.zip with winrar, Do not extract.
Step 2. Navigate to \META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script and extract this file only, then use "Notepad++" to open the file.Don't use default notepad.
Step 3. Delete assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "A55HD" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "A55HD");
Step 4. Save the file, put it back to the same location in archive (It will take some time to add to archive)..Done...then proceed as usual.
a) update.zip is for reinstalling Factory Image of the ROM from recovery mode. The zip file is signed.
b) Files for SPFT are to be used with SP Flash Tool and can be used in case your phone is bricked. Do not flash the preloader unless you know what you are doing.
c) To download the files just go to the respective folder and right click on each file and hit download. After all four parts are downloaded, extract Part 1 of the downloaded splitted files and the files would be ready to be used as is.
d) Keep all four parts of the splitted files in a single folder and do not rename the splitted files.
If you have any questions related to A55 HD you can ask them here and I would try to help you the best way I can.
I'm still testing some custom ROMS but none seem to work . So far I've tested LEWA OS and MIUI ROM for xiacoao G6 Youth. However I'll keep trying and update once I have a working Custom ROM.
One more project in mind is to port Custom ROMS to A55 HD if none is available as is on the web.
If anyone of you is able to find a working Custom ROM for A55 HD kindly post it here so that we can have a repository of successful and useless attempts. I'm sure it would help others.
Rooting procedure worked after two attempts. The device is rooted.
While trying to install CWM recovery, get a problem. Can not see custom recovery in MUT. Pasted on both SD cards, internal and external also.

done but some observations!!!!
DONE.
Some observations:
1. In CWM, cant see internal SD card. While, after mounting usb storage, can see external SD card only. NOTE, CANT SEE INTERNAL SD CARD ONLY WHEN TRY TO MOUNT INTERNAL PHONE STORAGE IN CWM. WHILE NORMAL WORKING NO PROBLEM.
2. Deleted.
3. Deleted.
4. Deleted,
5. Deleted.
6. The font size of Stock and CWM recovery is very small still it can serve the purpose.
Do any body have original/stock update.zip from Company?
Updates:
I think I figured out the problem with touch. Uninstalled an application called "Go Power Master" and the touch is ok even after connecting USB or charger. Thanks man. The phone is working very nice after rooting.
nanachitang420 said:

Some observations:
1. In CWM, cant see internal SD card. While, after mounting usb storage, can see external SD card only.
2. After rooting, before even installing CWM, got some irratic behavior with touch. Like, while USB is connected, touch was not working as expected, it took long time to make USB storage active as after touching a specific required operation, like pulling down task bar it was doing something else like opening play store, opening game, or opening date and time settings. While unlocking lock screen, it was just opening any random phone application and is not even allowing to go back with back button or home button. Don't know this is related with what?
3. Irratic application were opening while touching different application but after removing USB, things were working better.
4. Rebooted in CWM and first tried to "fix permissions" to avoid that irratic touch behavior, thinking there was problem with permissions. Took nandroid back up, after fixing permissions. Wiped cache and dalvik cache and restarted.
5. Now, till now phone is not connected to PC with USB cable or connected to charging; it behaves better with touch but it is very troublesome to perform any operation after phone connected to PC with USB or to charger.
May be you have faced these issues or may not! Any suggested solution? Do any body have original/stock update.zip from Videocon?

For me the touch works without any problems...and as for detecting internal sd card...that also works flawlessly..i don't have the phone with me right now...Yesterday I was trying something and the nvram got corrupted [No baseband]...so right now it is resting at service center...Hope to get it next week...
One suggestion never install Carliv Touch Recovery on this phone...it messes with the baseband and display...Stick to this recovery until I build a more updated CWM...

Nice...Yeah, people at Videocon forgot to change the version number i guess...and loss of root and cwm was due to restoring of system.img and recovery.img in the ROM file...so it's normal..
Besides one should always perform a clean install from CWM..i.e. Clear Data, Clear Cache, Clear Dalvik Cache, Format /system/ and then install ROMS..
And yes this ROM is a bit better then the one on phone..I received my phone today from service center and software was updated to this ROM..It felt much better .And the version was same , so this seems to be the latest ROM for A55 HD.. Enjoy
How to flash phone with sp flash tools
was trying to flash a recovery build on CWM site. I think it has spoiled baseband. No sim is getting detected. Any idea how to flash phone with SP tool? Don't have access to service station as am very far.
Edit: Managed to flash with SP tool. Used the files you have uploaded for SPFT. Selected all options and now phone is on and showing base band version, also sim are getting detected. The issue was preloader drivers for windows 8 which managed to install by disabling driver signature verification. Device rooted and installation of CWM through MUT was successful. Thanks.
Try this and this. Its as good as custom rom installation works very well with MTK6589

You must understand that the recovery partition is of 6 mb....and most likely the recovery you received from CWM online builder was more than 6 mb..hence your secro.img was also overwritten...hence the problems with baseband and imei....same thing happened with me 7 days back when I had to submit my phone to Service center. Unfortunately i didn't had the flash image then but it is good to know that it can also recover baseband and imei. And congrats for recovering your phone and I'm glad my contribution helps you...
Just remember one thing...if the boot, recovery, secro partitions are of more than 6mb then don't flash them as they would mess one thing or other...and hopefully you had disabled preloader in SPFT.....if not then from next time onwards please do it....because rarely you need to flash preloader...and a wrong flash can make your device a brick which can only be recovered by Test points.Hence never flash preloader until unless you know what you are doing.....And yes, I already use Gravity Box along with Xposed Framework...Great mod...Besides them I also use xhalofloatingwindow with bubble launcher and lwinrecent ...Both are xposed modules and work as expected.I also have init.d support which allows to make boot persistent changes on device....Along with that a few build.prop tweaks that take my ROM to the custom level...Let me know if you need any of this...
Please
Thanks for preloader advise. was not that much aware and will take care next time. Please share init.d support, build.prop tweaks and their usefulness.
For init.d, use term-init by ryuinferno.

This is the link to the thread. Do not use zip-init or uni-init. Follow the guide on the thread. It works flawlessly.

Thank you Pratap bro. I'll let you know next time if I get to the point where I need to go to service center but I'm sure that with the ROM you provided I wouldn't need to go to one. And yes people you can ask for stock ROM from Pratap. He has excellent connections and can get you at least the Videocon ROM and may be others . Don't forget to thank him. Besides he is an excellent person who wouldn't shy away from helping you if he can. Ciao Pratap brother.

I haven't checked full functionality apart from Backup, Restore and ZIP installations (from sideload and external sd card). These functions are working well.
It would be very nice if you or someone else can help in making this recovery bug free.

Agree, but didn't get time to improve over it. Hope to start it soon... Meanwhile, you are free to fork and modify the code as per your requirement. Please update if you get it working fine.
@trivalent the main problem I think is the reset time, once it took 1 hour for. We now have custom ROMs for our device, so wipe data is now more impotent. Try to fix this when you'll got time
