Hi, since yesterday my infuse show this annyoning message when try to open camera: "warning: Camera Failed", this happen after downgrade from Cyanogen 10.1(last nightly unnoficial) to stock gingerbread (wanna try something but downgrade :S), then when try to open camera, show the message and suddenly force close, i try all methods suggest to other galaxy devices: reboot, clear application cache, format phone, super wipe, 3rd party market cameras, try different kernel, back again to the rom used before and... nothing, i read something about the camera firmware in galaxy SII forums... coz i search in all ways here infuse forums and nothing about changing camera firmware in the infuse (any way to put a equivalent camera firmware from galaxy captivate or anything?) i dont messed/play before with this option (change camera firmware)... the phone never had moisture (never drooped in water or humidity) any way to make the procedure in my infuse, any help much appreciated!

you may not be able to use cameras from other builds or devices.
you may have to wipe the whole system/data/cache/dalvik in cwm and flash the rom over again
if that doesn't work, you have to flash back to stock and start over.
I have the same issue...any solutions?

I have the same issue and have tried this and everything else I could find, but I noticed one thing in particular: the Camera app and the Camera Firmware app do not have anything in them. Both apps read "0 Bytes." Has anybody found another solution for this?

Try factory resetting. Honestly, that fixes 85% of problems for me so its worth a shot
Factory Reset hasn't fixed it

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've tried factory resetting the device a dozen times with no results. Is there some way I can manually install the camera firmware? I'm convinced that it's missing because it says 0 Bytes

Well when I was running the Gingerbread stock rom, I could go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and see that the Camera App and Camera Firmware App both said 0 Bytes, so I guess that means they were missing entirely. I am running the Slimbean Jelly Bean 4.2.2 rom right now and neither of those apps show up.

Hi, i've bought an unlocked T-Mobile HTC Sensation and was running Android Revolution HD for Sensation gingerbread. my Camera app has suddenly stopped working... I've tried updating to latest ICS from Android Revolution HD 6.5.1 but still the camera is not working. when i start the app... the screen flashes and then again I'm back on the home screen. Strangely, when using application "mirror" it starts the front camera... and that is working fine... and i've tried multiple apps from market for back camera...but its not working using any of them... can you please help me out with this... any help in this would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks

this is weird did you tried other camera apps?
if its still not working then
do a superwipe and flash rom again and see(this method erases data ..so backp them before hand)
Similar problem, if i click the camera or camcorder icon the screen goes black, it either stays black until i take the battery out or it crashes and restarts?! Weird, cant use it to take pics in any other apps either. front camera is fine on skype though...!? everything is uptodate nothing was updated recently?! Anyone
(Im on stock)
This happened to me once when i was stock. I would do a battery pull and it would work again..but finally did a hard restore through recovery and cleared all the caches and that worked. Now im rooted and on energy GB rom and I have not had that problem anymore.
Just flashing a new rom did not help. I actually had to do a factory reset on the ROM as well..in the Setting/storage.
Never ran into this problem

Have u tried maybe a different rom??

I would suggest clearing the app data.
Have you news. I have the same problem and have yet to find any solution. If you have one I'd be grateful for it.

Go to Task Manager>>Advanced>>All apps>>Find the Camera app and select it>>Force Close if it is running & then Clear Data.
This should fix it.
If not, get this app. Go to primary and secondary camera, & check if they both work.
If it works, then there's a problem with the stock app.
If not, there is either a problem with the camera or with camera access.
I would suggest reflashing your current ROM, since this seems to solve issues, many a time.
Try installing another pyramid
have you tried to download a special or customized pyramid from the sensation android development department and then tried out your 4g??? a customized pyramid + tweaks will allow the htc camera to work because the htc family usually creates htc's like as if they were real babies.. the htc's adapt to you and then little by little all the problems like "over-heating reset, camera faults and random keyboard touches" are common problems with the htc... installing a different pyramid or returning it for another new one will usually fix this..

As far as I can tell, your camera is not being detected.
I would recommend that you do this:
1>NANDROID backup
2>SuperWipe (it can be found in this post at the very end)
3>Re-install ROM (Remember to check MD5 before installing)
4>Check if the Camera works.
If not, then Super Wipe and restore your previous backup.
If it works, get back to me. (PM me if I don't reply)
If you have further questions, feel free to ask.

i have read all posts i can read in 30 hours, i have read people who fixed just updating google maps, desactivating location services, etc... but i have done a lot of things and changed like 15 roms, im looking for a froyo FULL STOCK kernel to my infuse but i cant find it
ok, i have partially solved the problem..
this is how, if you have a stock rom of Froyo or Gingerbread:
You can dial at dial pad *#34971539# and then click in "Phone to CAM FW Write"
As i Read in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710010&page=2
if you have a Custom Rom of JB, ICS or another louncher you can write the camera Firmware following this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951636
Thanks all,
Last Thing, now when i open my camera got a black screen, like if my camera is not working, if i change to video or change back to front camera starts working again, and i can go back to take my picture with back Camera, do you have any idea what can i do now?

not so fast, the camera only worked like 10 minuts after i did this, got the warning again.. please could you help me! ((
Okay, here's what I'd recommend:
Take out your external SD card.
Put your phone into download mode and flash jscott30's return to stock (root) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27283140&postcount=1
Once done, test out your camera.
If it's working okay, shut down the phone and put the SDcard back in.
Test again.
If possible, stick with the rom for a day. Also, make sure you flash a kernel with CWM!
If all is good after a day and you want to move up to 4.2, remove the external SD card before flashing anything. You can put it back in once you're done flashing.
thanks, i sold it

Ok i have a tmobile sensation 4g.. last month, my back camera kept crashing after flashing a jb rom...so i restored to viperS rom and camera still won't work. I get a " cant connect to the camera" error. i even flashed back to stock and camera still won't work. even using an app called "Z-DeviceTest" shows a big red x, meaning it not working. But in the app the front camera is working and can even see myself. so i did a reset and then wiped dalvik and cache multiple times. Just now, the new camera i ordered, came in and i installed it; with the same error. Has anyone experience this problem? Do you have any ideas what could be going on. any help would be appreciated..

Hi Everyone!
First, I know this has been discussed many times, but it was never solved under any topic, and all topics are pretty old...
Maybe someone has some new method for fixing this?
Upon entering any camera app, it just throws me back to homescreen, or displays "can't connect to camera"(depending on the rom).
Also, usind z-device, both cameras and flash are red-crossed. I can not initialize flash with any app neither.
I have tried all the possible roms, it happens on all of them.
Of course, tried clearing cache of the app too..
Did anyone fix this issue, or is this purely hardware ?
Thanks in advance!
Have you done a full partition wipe and format?

Hi. Have you completely wiped and formatted all of your partitions before flashing your ROMS? If you are using 4EXT then you can just use the option "format all partitions (except sdcard)". Use Titanium backup to backup your apps before doing this. I also always make a complete backup of the previous ROM, just-in-case, I need to quickly fallback in case of disaster. Then flash the ROM and then the GAPPS. If you have done this and things still do not work, then there is definitely something different about your device. In general, the camera is quite buggy in many of the ROMs I have tried. With one ROM trying to make a video recording will cause the gallery to crash and then I will get the same error about not being able to connect to the camera, but, once I reboot, this message goes away and I can take pictures again. Good luck!
My wife has Nexus 5 (it is completely stock and unrooted with unlocked bootloader) running running Android 4.4.2. Recently, the stock camera app stopped recording videos. Tapping the record button does not do anything while camera works perfectly in photo mode. I factory reset the phone but the problem persists. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
lock the bootloader and send it back

Try to clear data and cache from camera in settings.
If that doesnt work either and you really have done the factory reset, you have to send it to repair bc of an hardware deffect. :crying:

I will try that but I think factory resetting clears cache, anyway. The phone camera worked fine previously but now suddenly it stopped.
Thanks anyway.
I have the same problem, when I change the camera app to record nothing happens when I press the red record button. I think the problem started when I upgraded to 4.4.2

And you flashed the right one? Hammerhead-4.4.2
Like i said before, if that doesnt help, you have to send it back to get a replacement.
You need to uncompress each download before use, which creates a new directory for that exact download. That directory contains a ./flash-all.sh script, which handles the various operations, installs the necessary bootloader, baseband firmware(s), and operating system. Note that this operation deletes all user data by default

I did not flash anything. The phone was OTA updated. Please note that the phone received OTA update and when I applied it, it completed its process but did not update (it was still on older android version) and this happened several times (I mentioned this on a separate thread here on XDA old post).

Yes, I did it. Flashed the stock 4.4.2 and everything seems to work fine. However, when I tried updating using OTA after downgrading the update failed and stopped with "Error" message. After flashing 4.4.2 from scratch will hopefully allow smooth future OTA updates. Thanks everyone.

Good thing is - you got a Nexus, so its easy to flash all the stuff and go back to stock/factory image/recovery/...
:highfive:
Any update on this? I have this exact problem. No unlock, not root just pure OTA stock.
1. Video does not record. You press the red button and no timer comes up.
2. A VID_20140126_224910.mp4.tmp file is created 395.54 KB.
3. Time lapse works as do all the other camera functions.
4. The basic Google FAQ has generic instructions if an app does not work so I followed these.
5. in safe mode the camera works fine.
6. Power off and on again. The Video Camera then works fine and creates normal .mp4 files.
Things I have done that may affected the Camera in the first place;
1. Clear cache.
2. Put a .thumbnails file in DCIM to stop the gigantic .thumbnail folder being created.
3. Running nova launcher.
Unlikely these are a factor as I isolated them as an issue and rebooted but worth a mention just in case.
Camera works but have found the it subsequently stopped working again and had to repeat the Google FAQ steps to fix an app.
To answer my own question I found the uninstalling Said It_1.3.37.apk fixed the problem and just to prove it reinstalling brought the problem back.
