So I'm planning on selling my Droid DNA and Note 10.1 around September/October when the Note 3 comes out to buy it at full retail. I LOVE my 10.1, but I'd much rather have a blazing fast new phone that is actually portable. I wish every single day that my DNA had an S-Pen! Anyway, I'm wondering about the resale value of my Note. I've had it since Christmas last year, but it's in perfect condition. Had a case on it since day one, and no scratches on the screen. Runs flawlessly, blah blah blah. My question is, assuming I keep it in good condition, how much can I expect to get out of it in September/October? A quick look on Ebay brings up around $300 for used devices, but I'm curious to know how much time affects the resale value, specifically the next 4/5 months. I only use it a few times a week so I'm assuming it'll stay in tip top shape.
What should I expect the resale value to be? Will including two case with it help the value at all? Thanks so much for the help in advance!
If Samsung release the Note 10.1 then your resale value will be nil...
Who knows really.... Electronics retain a resale value dependant on how much people want them. If the price of a new note is down to the $300 price then roughly 75% of that is a place I'd look at. It depends on what is released in the coming months. If you want prime $$$ for your note(and you don't really use it much), I wouldn't delay as you may be disappointed later...
I'd say no more than the $275-$300 range.

Someone is selling one for $300. It comes with everything including a case, extra battery, and charger. The only problem? There is a scuff on the top left corner, both on the chrome and on the black part of the LCD.
What do you guys say? Yay or nay?
My main device right now is a BB9700, solely for the UMA. I also have a HD2 and a new Vibrant I'm trying to get rid of (unless the latter gets 2.2 ASAP).
Nexus One is dated at this point. I would wait 2 more months if I were you.
Dont get it.
Nexus one is technological garbage at this point (don't mean anything negative when I use the term, 'garbage').
Not even worth spending on anymore. I still don't get why people think they can charge close to $400 for it.
The one phone that actually has better specs then the Nexus One and actually available around the world is the Samsung Galaxy S.
Hardware quality of the Nexus one is probably one of the best as far as Android Phones are concerned.
So why exactly is it outdated? Because in a fews months there will be something faster and better? There will always be something better and faster in a few months in the electronics business.
I'd say go for it if you're willing to part with the money. The alternative is to wait for whatever is faster and better, but be prepared to pay a hefty sum for it. Remember, even the Nexus One was around twice that price when it was brand new, and the new stuff that comes out is liable to be around the same price unless you get it as part of your contract with your carrier. By the time the price of the new stuff is down to that level, it too will be considered "old" and "outdated"
I noticed the current Galaxy Nexus is 350$ which is a *great* deal on a fairly recent no contract device. (Was 400$)
The Nexus 7 is 200$ base price.
So, I am wondering if maybe the next generation of Nexus phone(s) could possibly launch in the 200-300$ range. While I may just be a little to hopeful, it doesn't seem like the antenna should jump the cost of a device that drastically.
So, what does XDA think? Would a sub 400$ phone have enough quality at launch? Or would they have to cut to many corners to make a device worthy of the "Nexus" name for phones? I would gladly pay an extra 150$ ish (around 350$ total) if it mean avoiding using an upgrade and getting locked back into a contract while getting relatively high end specs that (should) stay up to date for at least 2 years. Plus I would get to straight up bypass the manufacturers while getting almost guaranteed dev support.
It took almost a year for the gnex to reach that price, so yeah almost a year after the next nexus launcher, you will probably see a substantial price decrease.

Pretty good point.
I was more thinking about the nexus 7 launching with a tegra 3 and 1 gig of ram at 200$ range. Those are some pretty impressive specs for the cost. I am not trying to knock the nook tab or the kindle fire.. but, for 200$ if you want a tablet that doesn't require tweaking or much effort.. You're getting an extra 2 cores + stock jellybean.
While the Galaxy Nexus may have launched for more the price has dropped before it even saw a successor. A lot of phones will only drop in price once a successor has been released.

True, but the Galaxy Nexus with "worse" specs is still $350, phones are just priced differently.
I think the depreciation of price on samsung's devices is quite a lot. There is no point buying straight away anymore. Wait few months and you have a bargain.
The Nexus tablet is price controlled by Google to help make it even more attractive. I doubt they'll do the same with the next Nexus phone, but it will help drop the price of the Galaxy Nexus even more. Google and Sony seem to be the only ones who want to offer reasonably priced new-in-box devices.
So, I've never sold my phones before, but the thing is, I really want to move over to the phablet side of things, and I want to get the note 5. The Note 5 is slated for a q3 release. My upgrade is due already (have a HTC m7) and since I pretty much put my HTC out of commission, I'm using my Blackberry from like 2009 as my current phone.
Main question is, If I buy the s6 and sell it in like 5 months tops, what would I get for it?
It's hard to say to be honest. Since they'll be a lot of S6 devices sold the resale value is likely to be lower, like other Galaxy devices in the past. Supply and demand after all.
On the other hand the build quality is much better than previous devices and it's likely to be higher than previous years.
I'm in the same boat as you, I am intrigued by the S6, and possibly the G4, but I know the Note 5 will likely be even better.
Both are great devices (Note 4 lollipop update killed my battery life). As someone who has gone from phone to phablet then back again, I can tell you that selling your galaxy phone on ebay, CL etc can be pretty disappointing. If you pay full price today, in 6 months you could probably pull $350 selling it... at least that's been my experience. Either way, good luck, and the GS6 has been great for me so far so you can't go wrong there.
I would agree with the above post. I am guessing that in 6 months you'll probably be able to get 350 to 450 for the GS6. That's really not bad, but you'll be paying about 200 for using the device for 6 months.

Yep all the above post are accurate the note probably holds the most value of any android phone. Truth is because of so many releases android phones don' keep value well, in about 2 month you'll start seeing s6 pop up used for around 450-475 probably by the fall when the note 5 comes for a mint condition s6 32gb you'd get about 400 probably
Hey guys, I have a little issue here. My current 24 month plan with Vodafone(Australia) is almost up. I'm on an 80 dollar plan with 5 gig of mobile internet. I'm quite happy with my current plan already and I don't see myself changing plans or service. The thing is I am very very happy with my current phone which is the Note 3 the only phone I could possible replace it with is the Note 4. I dislike the note 5 with a passion.
The note 4's slight upgrade on the note 3 is not worth to get locked another 24 months with, Since I will most likely keep the same plan and stick with the same provider I was wondering what's my best move? I feel I should definitely get something for it. I really do not want to change my phone for anything on the market right now. Should I just get any of the flagship phones and sell it and go on a holiday or something? Any advice woud be appreciated.
Also here is why I like the Note 3/4 so much even tho it's older.
-Samsung amoled screens
-Big display I love phablets.
-Removable batter - My phone has never been charged or had downtime ever. I use a charging dock and 2 batteries, and keep the spare battery on my wallet.
-the specs on the notes are top notch. My note 3 can still out benchmark most of the other non-samsung flagships.
Best buy has this phone on sale for $1. Is it worth the 2 year upgrade? On a S III now, which means I give up the voice/data, but gain spark. I've had my s3 for a while and have changed the battery and still want that SD card access..which is slowly fading away. Plus, the note and LG phones are just too big.
I actually returned my Galaxy S6 because the battery life on it was ridiculously bad! I picked up the S5 for $1 buck @ best buy and could not be happier with my decision. The specs on this phone still compete with many other newer phones on the market and the overall mod development is really good on this phone as well.
I am in a little different position, but I paid 99.00 fee for my 2 year upgrade since I sell sprint phones at a 3rd party. I love this phone and had the S4 before this and like many others I wanted the SD card and battery pull. The phone is great and after 24 hours just to make sure it was working well I rooted it and installed MOAR rom on it and just love the heck out of MOAR and the phone. Spend the dollar and you will be glad you did...
What does everyone think the current cash value is for a brand new Sprint S5 ????
Here is my initial ad and price. Opinions?
