I'm looking for one with the best options, that can tell me how far I've ridden round trip or one way and specifically if it had a built in gps navigator that would be cool, don't care about keeping track of my tracks/paths, since I usually stick to roads...

I like Strava as well. I don't think there is a Cycling app that doesn't track your routes and for Navigation I would just use Google Nav.
Yea I noticed google nav is one of the few gps app's that have the pedestrian mode. I wish more gps app's would add this feature. I'm a fan of Waze GPS but when I have to I use Google Nav. LoL
I use Road Bike Pro. It's pretty nice. Tells your elevation, speed per mile, how far you went and shows you where you went to on Google Earth.
Does it have stats sharing? Looking for one with stats sharing on facebook, me and a girl I know are always joking around bout her having to always go to the gym to keep the body she wants so I'm gunna do a couple of these to poke at her with and play around about. LoL
Yea I know good reason huh? haha
Although last time I had some installed I was to ADHD To remember when to turn it on or off. LMAO

Apparently the new Google maps is supposed to have bike directions. And Strava is really good with social stuff. They have this like king of the hill type thing that you can challenge friends to try and beat your times. I know Nike+ has some good Facebook integration since alot of my friends are always posting their runs from it, but I don't know if it has a cycle mode

Looking for the social stuff in Strava but don't see it yet do you have to have a ride recorded first or it is pro/premium membership only? My facebook is linked to Strava...
I've had this idea in my head for a lil while for an exercise app, really not an app for exercising but more of a idea brought into those types of recording app's.
Basically it is/or would be for the exercising app, an automatic pickup and start or recording once a certain number of repetitive movements are involved and recognized by the phone and the app itself... Such as a up and down or side to side movement, since your phone generally goes in that direction whether it's wrapped around the side of your arm while your jogging or running or in your pocket. Sure what would get in the way here is what about walking in general maybe you could add a specific time between each motion, whereas when ya walk ya don't move your arms back and forward as much or fast as you do when running, or if there was a way to measure the force for each movement and it could determine whether to automatically start recording or stay idly by waiting to sense, pickup and start automatically recording.

TiKL for Android is a Push to Talk app that uses Voip. Just found this today on the market and have been playing around with it with some friends. Has great potential! I cant post links yet, (if someone could help me out and post one) just do a search for TiKL in the market.
Great app love it has g great potential. Love waking my wife up in the mornings with it. Needs a contacts widget so all you have to so is click on their person to chirp them

Ok
someone please explain to me the usefulness of push to talk. I really never got it, and seriously want to understand how it is used and why it's different than calling someone? And I'm not being sarcastic. REALLY I AM NOT!
Is it just a "doesn't cost minutes" thing? Just a real world scenario where you would use this instead of calling would be great.
We run UPS and Generator tests at my job and there are like 5 of us that need to stay in constant contact with each other while the tests are going on. Some of us are on the first floor of the building, some are on the fourth floor and its way easier to just push to talk rather than dialing every time.

two things it needs
1. widget
2. some type of contact list instead of the pop down menu
thanks OP!!!!!!!!!
any way for me and my buddy to communicate with push to talk? he is on WM and IM on android.
Not at the moment. TiKL is only for android.

Well i have a Google Voice tied to my phone, that i use for my work line. I also have my work email tied to my phone. I also use Springpad for daily task and it syncs with my computer. I use Google docs to keep important files at my finger tips. the AD-HOC tethering is nice so i can have wireless access to my catalogs from anywhere on a table or laptop... i use mine more for business then i ever thought about with my blackberry.
stream music to my phone from my computer without having to put any music files on my SD card, tethering, wifi/wifi calling, youtube videos, flash for camera, "4G" speeds, and integrated email. didnt have any of these useful features on my previous sidekick 08 lol
Almost anything you can do with a computer or laptop I can do with my phone except its more convenient cause it fits in my pocket doesn't need to be connected to wifi and takes pictures and video so I think I would prefer my intelligent phone over my laptop anyday but of course the desktop wins cause it can run the games my Xbox360 can and it helps make things for my device lol
I think we're just one level behind where its total convenience. Right now it seems like voice recognition isn't too great outside of text messaging. I'm sure Android has a lot more to bring to the table though.

we'll see a legitimate siri clone very soon, but even so, I regularly use the voice command- "navigate to __" to gps my way around miami. more than anything, on a personal level, my phone has made my life so much easier regarding events. My phone calendar is the only reason I'm ever where I'm supposed to be.
i think most people with smartphones who see no use in them just haven't made the effort to see how they can improve their lives. I'm not saying they are for everyone, but I truly believe they can be. You just need to see how and why.

Back on topic, considering that this is my first smartphone, I find it useful, but I'm probably old school compared to many here and I've managed to live this long without a smartphone. I finally got on board not because I care to downsize my computing devices, but because I wanted a GPS-enabled device for navigation for the few times I need it. Also, a QWERTY keyboard in conjunction with Swype is a massive improvement over an alphanumeric keypad for composing texts or simply taking notes. That said, I still prefer using my desktop over my laptop over my phone, and the phone will never be a good interface for me to perform heavy text composition.
To me, what's nice is that the apps I did rarely use on my dumbphone like the calendar and calculator are much more spacious and intuitive to use now to the point where I'm willing to use them more often. It's also nice to have a specialized flashlight app and the ability to easily check my email and the weather. I really like the voice dictation and Swype inputs as well.
Also, yes, it is much harder to distract yourself with a dumbphone if should you find yourself stuck somewhere with someone/something to wait on and nothing to do. Ever since I flashed VU, I've spent more time scrolling the home screens and looking at the animations than anything else. I could easily waste time with this thing even without wireless data or Wi-Fi.

had a very similar conversation with the House Boss shortly after we got our first Android phones, (got snookered with the Samsung Behold2, almost made us go back to regular phones) once we got the MT3G-S we both fell in love with our phones (even though I jumped on the MT4G, needed more power and screen). she loves the keyboard for typing her texts and browsing web, the fact she now has Youtube on the go for watching funny vids and vids of our nieces and nephews, the great calender, games and with Pandora and her SD card no more need for her iPod.
I combine my MT4G and my Acer Iconia A500 Tablet to make my life way easier and much much less cluttered in my 18-wheeler between GPS, calender, notepad/office programs helping me keep everything inline for work and Hulu, Netflix and the games helping entertain me when I'm stuck somewhere and getting bored, I have saved money and was able to shave weight off the crap I carry in the truck allowing more cargo (means more money). Don't really know how I did this for as long as I did before.
I know this isn't Android anymore, but has anyone pulled/ported the stock Tizen browser from Tizen OS? I assume it would be easy enough to sideload this to the device via USB Debugging, right?

While we wait, can you share what you think would be a useful scenario where pulling up a webpage on a tiny watchscreen will be more convenient than just pulling out your phone and doing it that way? I'm really curious and maybe you have a great idea I haven't considered.

Either of those scenarios you just mentioned are great, but voice commands w/ S Voice would be more useful (if it can even do this - I know Google Now can get me this info from my phone, but S Voice on the Gear currently just comes back and says "sorry, we couldn't find the answer to your question".
Also, if your hands are full, what makes you think that opening up and typing a web address on the watch's little screen will be "hands free"? You can't even interact with the watch without touching it with your other hand.

How would you navigate an app or browser without using you hands/fingers? Your football score scenario is already accomplished via ESPNs Score Center app. It can be configured to send notifications based on team preferences (i.e. notify of scoring plays during your fav team games).
And now that I think about it, if only the Google Maps app could be configured to send turn-by-turn notifications, we would sort of have GPS on our Gears.

oh I forgot about the turn by turn functionality - Pebbles can do this, even though I never got a chance to use it since my phone is mounted on my dashboard. Would be useful when walking in a city, though - without keeping your phone out. The problem of course is the watchscreen turns off again and you have to touch the watch and navigate to the app again to see the next direction.

Yep, and shortly after I posted this I came up with an article about that Pebble feature... however, it seems it is limited to the iOS version of Google Maps because it is able to send normal push notifications for each turn.
Hi,
My family all have iPhones and they want to be able to 'track' me on my Galaxy. How can I set this up ? I've heard about glimpse but that doesn't really sound like the thing i'm after, as far as I understand it sends a text or email asking if you want to share your location. Not handy if i'm driving.
I just want a simple app that doesn't use too much battery and lets my wife occasionally see where I am on her iphone.
When i read this title I thought this was a thread about how iPhones are better at tracking than Android lol.
As for your question, I'm not too familiar with any apps that would do this well. Apple isn't the type of software to play nicely with Android with something like that, unfortunately.
I am using Zenly for this purpose. Works great and does not suck to much of my battery.
Google maps will do this. The location sharing just got pushed to the iphone version recently as before it only worked on android.
log into your google account and it will track any active phones log into that same account. It will tell your gps data.

I often leave work late or work weird hours and don't always get a chance to let my wife know. She's a worrier so it's easier to let her see where I am on a map instead of stress about me being in an accident or whatever.
I use xfi locator pro. It tracks my wife's iphone and my kids androids. For her iPhone I just needed her apple log in info. For my kids I had to install an app for it to work. It works well. Better than sprints family locator. You can follow the phone you're tracking along a road as it updates every few seconds.
GeoZilla not bad...
Trackview is great.
Ok, this is a really specific question so may not be one you can help with but throwing it out there.
Switched from an iPhone to the S8+ and love it except for one thing. The one app I use daily and intensely is Gymaholic on iOS. A very detailed and customisable workout app that lets me input my individual daily workouts, sync them to my Apple Watch, tweak them on the watch as I workout and then have it monitor my heart rate and reps and sync back. It is a fantastic app. I love it.
I can't find anything similar in terms of quality or features on Android that plays nicely with Android Wear. There was one called Rithmio but it looks like they went bust a few months back.
This is a deal breaker for me and I really don't want to have to return the S8. Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks so much.

Ah XDA, helpful as usual. I don't have an answer for you OP, but I do know that Android is missing a lot of the polished iOS apps. It is very likely that there is no equivalent to what you are looking for. This is part of the reason why I keep both an iPhone and flagship Android most times.
I keep track of my progress mentally, don't really write anything down.
However, I'm sure there are a bunch of apps that would suit you.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), you just have to take the time and do your own research.
A quick 5 second google search and I found this:

I've had my back and forth experiences with iOS, but eventually always come back to Android.
For all my Android years, I've consistently used JEFIT and it hasn't turned me down. It does have its downsides, but all apps do.
I suggest you try it out. On their beta test program (I believe you can freely join to it) they are experimenting with Android Wear support.

Dunno what your logic is there but I use the app to put my workouts in so that I can follow them on my watch and then if I decrease or increase the weight, I can update it and it syncs back to the phone to tell me when I next come to do that exercise what weight i
lifted to failure. Much easier than a pen and paper. I'm doing German Volume Training right now which is very intense and keeping a log is crucial rather than just guessing by looking at the weights. So yeah, I do lift, bro [emoji23]

Just a suggestion but if I were you, and you REALLY liked that iOS only app maybe you could just get a used iPod touch or something? That way you have a device just for music at the gym and the app you like. The Bluetooth range on the s8 is supposed to be better too so maybe you can use it to Bluetooth tether internet to the iPod. Just a thought.
