Aluminium Case Help! - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi XDA,
I have got a TF101 which fell by a mistake on the asphalt. At least, it's still working like a charm.. but I'm having problems with the aluminium case. After that accident the aluminium case and the plastic bar between the aluminium and the screen are starting to get separated and now they're so separated that it starts to be seen what's inside of the tablet. I am worried about it, please help me or teach me how to disassembly it correctly and how to fix it.. Thanks! Here are some images (Sorry for bad quality..):

Try to take the photos from a bigger distance, then your camera can focus it.
I can't see the actual problem on your photos.
No urls at this moment (first post here on xda ), but you can search for "TF101 Disassembly" on youtube

I'm on university wifi and it's blocked, but fredurico over at transformerforums and here has posted some nice guides and information on repairing the bezel/taking it apart etc. Might wanna search around here and there and around to get more disassembly and repair info, as well as follow above ^^

Can you PM me mplease a link? I can't find it.
So my bezel, the brown part of the tablet which has the buttons and bangs is scratched so after I dropped it, the asphalt left a white 0,5cm long and 0,2cm wide scratch and it is seen from a long distance. I don't really like it and I always get mad when I look at it lol. I want to take out the bezel and maybe stick the bezel&the plastic together as after I scratched it they left a 0,1cm distance between them. Because of this, the screen has left a 0,1cm distance between it and the plastic part so now I have dust particles under my screen and they're bothering me. The bezel has bent where the white scratch is so now the case looks crappy. All I need to do is to take off the bezel and stick it and the plastic case, and then make the bezel straight somehow so it looks like before. I want to know if there are any risks of opening the TF and taking off the bezel, which are they and how can I take it off? I don't have that plastic item that is shown in videos with which I must take the bezel off after I take the screwers off. Also, how can I fix the bezel's bent part and the distance between it an the screen? Thanks and sorry for my english.

So in the first 3 you can see the distance between the bezel, plastic and screen and in the last 2 you can see the scratch I was talking about. Sorry but I don't have a better camera lol.

Thank you very much. Is there any risk of disassemblying just the bezel?

If you're careful popping it off then no risk, but there are some small plastic clips that hold the bezel in place, they are easy to snap if you are too rough
Use a flat lever like in the video to pop it off, I used a screwdriver and broke a couple of mine

Nevermind then lol.

Screen not glass?!?!?

Please Close.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
That's sort of how my dell streak 5 felt and it too had gorilla glass.
Gorilla Glass is chemically altered to allow it to flex which helps absorb energy and keeps it from breaking as easily.

There is no way my screen is glass. When I push somewhat hard in the center, you can see it bending... And when you tap it with your fingernail it sounds like plastic! Anyone else?

Yes....it's all lies..... Just some cheap plastic....they fooled us again.
Gorilla Glass is not normal glass.... All ya have to do is look at one of the 100 videos showing it bending and not "sounding" like typical glass.....because it's not

Fantastic threads like this start up. Yes the screen is technically glass. Do some research next time maybe? While you're at it why don't you try pressing down harder on your screen to see what happens. To the guy who commented on Samsung - They use the same glass.
Stop getting high kids, it takes the wind out of your sail.

I agree with the title of your post 100%!. But I think he was making a joke/reference that samsung makes cheap plastic phones....
and stop getting high? hahah maybe your next post should be even more condescending
Not trying to be a ****, but it would have taken less time to find out the phone has Gorilla Glass than it did for you to post (and then monitor) this thread, which would have saved you from the snarky replies
It's plastic. Glass doesn't have this much flexibility to bend and absorb pressure.

Who wants glass anyway. One nice good drop and that's it.

Back Cover Modification (in progress)

Haha ok so let me start off by saying the glass was cracked on the camera cover anyways.
ANY IDEAS TO MAKE IT LOOK NICER ARE VERY MUCH APPREACIATED
Alright, so i got to thinking that removing that fingerprinty, smudgy glass from the display would provide for much better, less washed out pictures. So i (crudely) removed as much glass as I could and am taking suggestions on how to remove the rest. Thanks
PS I've already tried a flathead screwdriver and i felt like i was gonna snap the whole back.

It might actually not turn out that bad
almost there. Maybe a coat of black to cover up the tabs? Although it might not blend well...
I might have tried a drill with a bit just a little bigger than the actual lens.
Looking forward to before and after pics.
ETA: You could clean it up with a little black tape or a decal and some X-Acto knife work.

That occured to me after I did it X( but still the glass probably would have spiderwebbed from the drill so im just gonna go for removing all the glass.

DIY Charging dock for TF700

I've owned my TF700 for about two months now, and as I am coming from the Mortorola Xoom the one accessory I've really been missing is the standard charging dock. Not a fan of having to fumble around with the cable and connector every time I want to charge my tablet.
So being on Christmas break I sat down today to make my own charging dock; total cost for this project ran about $14 (Cdn). Here is a list of materials used;
1mm Plasticard stock;
Spare 40cm Asus charging cable;
10x hex bolts;
Spray paint;
Hot glue gun; and
Hobby knife.
Onto the build... I only starting taking pics after I had already gotten the basic frame together;

Here is the first test fit of the tablet in the dock;
The charging connector test fit into the dock;
Then a close up of the frame I built around the connector to hold it in place;
Next the connector was secured to the internal dock frame with a large quantity of hot glue to ensure it could withstand repeatedly attaching and detaching from the tablet;
And then the rest of the shell was completed for the dock;
The dock is now in working order, but tomorrow will bring final sanding, filling a few small imperfections and then painting. I'll update this thread with finished photos.
nice job!
Finished dock;
very nice!!!!
Wow!
Very sweet.
You are definitely a Do It Yourselfer to the max :highfive:
That looks....
:good::good:
This project looks really good. I have been thinking about making my own dock for a while. Did you use hot glue on the plastic card stock?

No, I used a liquid cement that is made for use with plasticard, it's the kind you brush on and dries within about 15 seconds. The hot glue was used to secure the charging cable connector and the steel nuts i used to add weight to the dock.
Looks good.. nice job.
Very professional looking job!:good: Where do I place my order?
I'd definitely buy one.
Looks really good, nice job !
What launcher is that?
Hey , Pretty sweet work!
Can you please post dimensions or some sort of draft/schemes?I think it will be highly appreciated
For v2.0 you should include the little nubs tat the keyboard dock has to help hold it in place, very nice looking dock though

This is the eerily familiar like the Nexus 4 thread where the guy claimed the glass shattered while inside his pocket.
Sigh.
So he pulled it out of the box, saw the screen was shattered, and decided to go ahead and take the plastic off and set up the phone any way?
Bull****!
But it is all logged in with the sticker off? Yea....

Yup total BS, you don't take the screen protector off a cracked phone
Impossible lol. I bet he dropped it then tried to be smart by blaming google.
im sorry but this is hard to believe! It looks like it was dropped! The point of impact looks like the bottom left corner!
I don't know him to be a dishonest person. Maybe somehow he got a unit that had been tampered with?

Still think its hard to believe! Why would you take the protective plastic film off, if you notice the screen is cracked? Also these phones are shipped in a decent retail packaging and then you have the actual shipping box filled with either peanuts!

AFAIK back in the day, the UPS practice was to "build" a "wall" then just throw ****(parcels) in behind it...
...so... I dunno.. BS or not, but the package should CLEARLY have shown signs of being beat all to hell and back... -> refuse delivery, or photo and claim it...
yea not buying that one nice try bro
I call BS too! The way my phones where packed there was no way that they would have cracked like this. They are in a molded box inside a box wrapped by a box inside a box with airbags.

The same thing has been bothering me a lot as well. Usually if I wipe it down with a microfiber most of it goes away but there are still similar specs to the ones in your picture. I just tried using paper and it didn't work too well. I ordered a small pack of the cyber putty, I think that should work better. @rootSU do you think the small 2.6 oz bag will be enough to clean a keyboard as well?
