Hello everyone, brand new to the forums, and new to Android in general. Not new to Linux however.
I've got a Pantech Flex P8010 that I was given and need some help with. I've read all the Flex threads, many of the Burst threads, still cannot find an answer. The previous owner states that the phone worked fine until he attempted a "hard reset". I don't know what he did, he doesn't remember, but it doesn't have any physical damage. The phone will power up to the Pantech logo screen and hang, or it can be powered in to the bootloader (vol up and down +power). The factory reset (vol up + power) doesn't work. I can get it to fastboot mode, PDL download mode, and I can power it off from bootloader. Reboot just hangs forever. I can power the phone on with the power button, but cannot power it down with the button. I have to either pull the battery or, in bootloader, select power off. Bootloader tells me the kernel hasn't been "tampered" with, and the phone is oem locked.
I use Linux as my daily OS. I have two Debian systems, both 32-bit. One is Mint LMDE, the other is a Debian Wheezy system I built from the basic. I am building a 64-bit system but it is not functional yet. I don't yet have drivers, MTPFS, or any other tools running on the Debian boxes, but I do have Pantech PC suite and adb/fastboot mini on a Windows 7 laptop. I also have recovery and boot images, and a lot of various drivers in the folder, and that is the machine I've been using with the phone.
Adb doesn't work at all. The previous owner knows less about Android than I do and so usb debugging is not on. Fastboot sort of works. I can issue a fastboot reboot-bootloader command and the phone will do just that. But fastboot oem unlock doesn't work. Trying to flash recovery or boot images returns a failure. Fastboot devices doesn't return the name and serial number, it instead gives an 8 character alpha-numeric string.
I've looked at the various directories and etc over on Github, and of course it's all like being home since it's Linux directories, but I can't get in to the phone to compare what's there.
Is there ANY way for me to get in to this phone? Either with Linux or Windows? Can I push or force debugging on? Is the Flex well enough known yet? I could not find any similar situations for the Burst, but if the threads are out there and I missed them, please let me know. If I can get the phone working I'll eventually root it, fiddle with the ROM, and put Debian side by side on it, but for now I just want to have it working so I can really take a look at it. Is there a generic method for Android I've missed somewhere? Or for ICS in particular?
This phone is my introduction to Android, so of course I picked a problem. I'll probably pick up another Flex to mess with...I really like the hardware specs...but it'd be nice to have two functional phones, one for daily use and one to learn on.
Oh, and let me say THANKS to each and every poster over on the Flex Dev threads, and also to the Burst folks. Loads of good information that I will put to good use once the phone is working....if it can get there! Not afraid of technical Linux tools or workarounds, but not up to speed with Android specific terminology or tools, and I don't care much for Windows but I can use it.

Hold both Volume buttons and power button. Should get a menu go to fastboot. Plug phone in computer use fastboot commands to push new rom files. As long as it sees the device which is does since it lists something. Google and xda are your friends.

Thanks for the reply, Mikey.
I can get into the bootloader menu no problem. And both fastboot and PDL will work, sort of. But I think because the phone is still locked, and usb debugging was never turned on, it's not allowing me to do much. I've talked with Pantech, but so far no joy. If there were a PDL tool for the Flex that could work around debugging being off, or even turn it on, that'd be great, I could recover. But I can't unlock the phone with fastboot, and adb commands can't do anything without debugging on. The phone is still so new, maybe I'll just have to hang out a while until someone with much more experience has the same problem and solves it.

Oh i see. Doesn't sound good. Sounds like it just comes up a generic Qualcomm device which i don't think there are any programs to work with it. Try asking the pantech burst community they made great strides with there device. Phones are similar just ours is a better upgraded version. Sorry i can't be of much help.

Hey, you helped just by answering the thread.
My thought was that since the phone hasn't been out long not many people have run in to this problem, and most of them just get a new phone. I like getting in to things and figuring out how to fix them, so here I am.
I'm currently looking at threads for the Burst, and Samsung threads for phones with the Snapdragon. I don't yet know know enough to know if that will be any help, but like you said, lots of work has been done and is being done with the Burst, and I'm getting some good ideas from them.
Pantech hasn't been much help, but mostly because people want easy fixes these days, or they just get something new, so their tech support people don't really get into the issues. I really like XDA, it's a bunch of people who find a problem and just keep working at it until they solve it. And if that causes another problem, they work at THAT until it's solved. I think I'll contact Qualcomm and see if they have any ideas.
Thanks again.
Good luck man glad to see people wanting to learn on here. Your right everyone just wants to have a one click fix, but ain't always that easy. I hope you get your Flex recovered. Sounds like you hosed the partition table. Not sure how you go about it without adb access. Anything i can help you with i will I'm not very experienced but i been in the scene for awhile. Keep tinkering with it hopefully you can figure it out. It's like a puzzle you just have to find the right pieces and put them together in the right order.

It's a mystery. I got the phone in this condition, and the previous owner had no idea what happened. He says all he did was try to reset the phone, but I don't have any info as to why he needed to. My suspicion is that he was trying to flash a ROM or something and didn't know what he was doing, and with the Flex being so new there isn't much development done yet. I see lots of good stuff about the filesystem and other things on Github, but so far I can't find a single thread anywhere about this situation. It's mostly a matter of time until the smart folks here find some tool that'll help me. In the mean time I'm learning Android's particular quirks. I do use Debian Linux as my daily OS, so Android isn't a big deal...manufacturer firmware is. Even Pantech doesn't seem to know how to help. What's frustrating is that it is THAT close...like you said, it could be an overwritten partition or some other partition error, a deleted file, an overwritten bootloader, etc. I just need to figure a way past the lockout so I can look at the files. So simple, but so hard. If he had turned debugging on, I'd be ok. Or if I could find a tool to unlock the bootloader (if it's not corrupted). So yeah, learning process. The Flex might be obsolete by the time I figure it out, but I will figure it out.

Dear Folks at XDA,
I would like to ask for you help with my HTC Touch Pro 2. I recently tried to update it to the new AthineOS CHome TF3D WM6.5 Manila ROM v 1.0 and unfortunately I failed.
The problem is that my phone now freezes at the black startup screen with the Touch Pro 2 logo and the red codes at the bottom.
I've flashed the ROM several times before and never got this issue.
Due to the fact that the phone doesn't finish the boot-up and I thus I can't get ActiveSync I'm afraid I messed up my phone for ever.
Please someone tell me I got a way out of this, I'd appreciate it very much.
Greetz,
SjonSjon
umm.... I don't think you can change the firmware just yet on the CDMA version of the phone... if you used a HardSPL that's available in the Rhodium forums then you probably used a GSM specific ROM on your CDMA phone... not sure what to tell you other than making sure you read the CDMA forum before trying something so risky. Best solution, unless someone knows how fix your phone in it's current state, is to toss it under your car and run it over and try to cash in on the insurance.
Problem solved!
Hey guys,
I got my HTC Touch Pro 2 functioning again. Thought I'd post the solution for other people who might encounter the same issue. I don't exactly know what the problem was. I'm assuming a non-compatible ROM or something, but after opening 30 tabs in my browser and reading my eyes out I found that if you put your phone into bootloader mode and connect it through usb to your computer you can flash the ROM without using activesync.
So I turned my phone off, pressed the power and Volume Down button simultaneously and then used the Stock ROM upgrade software from HTC to restore my phone
This solution beats the hell outta "run it over and try to cash in on the insurance" if I say so myself!
Greetz,
SjonSjon
I am glad you have recovered the beautiful device; and thanks for sharing a working solution.

You just saved my life!!!
Don't get our hopes up! This is the wrong forum. CDMA TP2s can't be flashed at all yet.
This was a life saver post so a quick bump for anyone that needs it.
I unlocked my CDMA phone, installed a few roms -- decided to go back to my stock rom default (which was Telus) -- reinstalled and bam -- bricked.
Well, technically it's not a brick if you can get back into the bootloader to reflash. So no worries everyone. If everyone reads instructions well enough we should hopefully see zero "real" bricks. Or at most, just enough to only build bbq pit rather than a house.
I think my phone is truly bricked
I was unlocking my phone (the HTC Touch Pro 2 <Verizon>) and I was using a Diamond unlocker (I thought it would be fine), but during the process there was a connection error and now my phone seems to be bricked. I can't get it to even turn on, get to a bootloader screen, or anything even remotely close.
The one odd thing that it does though, is when I connect it to my computer, it pops up and my computer recognizes there is a device there. In my Device Manager there is an unknown device called: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM. I have tried every combination of two buttons, including holding down the reset button with all of them, but nothing gets me anywhere.
If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it. Let me know if you need any more information.
my cdma is rebooting endlessley i reflashed stock rom and evorything. it seriously dosnt want to work. its most sadness... i am cashing in on the insurence. but they are going to send me a refurb..
spend 600$ on a phone got inurnce i hope the used one dosnt fail me.

I did the same exact thing to mt TP2. Same outcome.
We have to learn somehow....
That stinks man. If you did, then your phone is truly bricked. You are going to have to get a replacement or switch to another phone because there is nothing you can do to get it going again. I tried everything possible and eventually just ordered a replacement. I have it now and it's working beautifully, but needless to say I am a little scared away from any more unlocking or flashing for a while.
If you read carefully you dont have to be scared of flashing
I was a noob some time ago but before doing anything I took care of reading and understanding before doing nothing.
lesson learned
By now I have flashed more than 60 times on 3 diferent HTC devices and all were a succes
Hope you get your TP2 working again!
I hope I can get there
Someday I hope to be a flashing expert, but until then I will take it slow and read carefully. Thanks for your encouragement. When I actually get money to pay for the unlock for my TP2, I will let you know how flashing goes.
How do you keep the phone in bootloader? Mine goes right to the press volume instuction screen. Other than that I'm stuck on the black name screen, also my usb will not register in device manager. This was my first try at flashing.

Hey guys I was messing around with my Zio m6000 which I got recently but was unable to find software recovery mode even though I tried all possible button combos. (FYI I have up down volume rockers a send key a camera key and an on off /cancel button) my home button is screen/software touch Dependant.
I recently rooted it and decided I would make a backup image. I used clockworks free app to try to create a backup image. I selected a phone model close to my phone specs because my phone model is new it didn't have it as a choice. the phone rebooted.
That is it. There is no recovery image yet and I am unable to get passed the kyocera boot screen.
I can access 2 things:
1. is a blue screen which says "Modem download mode !!" when I plug that in via usb it says on my pc "kyocera Diagnostics interface (COM9)"
2. fastboot mode.
I have done a couple google searches but to no avail. I am wondering if there is some way to load recovery mode or to perform a factory reset Via USB or SD card or using some SDK commands?...
help me out here guys

Are you kidding? I sure hope you're kidding. You're not supposed to Flash a ClockWork Recovery Image to your phone if it isn't meant for your phone... come on. That's basic. But on the good side, I'm sure if you FastBoot Flash something you should be able to get it to load. You gots the uhm, BootLoader working?
BTW - How is that phone? I was considering it, but it looks kinda crappy (no offense?)
I cant seem to get to a boot loader. The last time I tried it via some software it factory reset my phone. The only thing I can think of is that they have tried to make it hard for modders. not to say its impossible but just hard.
in my defence about the backup, First off I was just trying to back up my phone.. I had good intentions. 2ndly I didn't think the profile mattered because I thought I was just going to make an image of MY phone by doing it.
This good news you speak of, I hope we can get to it without a boot loader :I
The phone is decent however it can be a bit sluggish at times and the CDMA network only works in the carrier browser and not for apps ect. The GPS works well and is solid. Battery life is decent when im not using it otherwise I can use the web on the phone via Wifi for about 3 hours before it goes dead Disappointing.
Thanks for the reply and please if anyone has any ideas let me know.

Well guys at the end of my rope here with my phone so I gave it to my gf to play with the buttons for a bit.... she actually figured out how to get it to boot! up button and power button loaded a blue screen that flickered and and went to the carrier screen and booted... all my settings are saved phone is still rooted Woot!
I have actually been looking how to get into recovery mode JUST because I didn't have anything to do and was searching for Zio stuff, and it brought me here lol.
Power + Up...
At least you posted this on the forum.
I'm really hoping that more people pick up the Zio.
I would hate to be the only one interested in tinkering with the phone.
Just a case of being a little too late lol.
Glad you found the fix though.
Good Luck
If you don't mind me asking, what did you use to backup your phone?
I am pretty new to the Android scene (Not new to phone hacking but I'm new to Android) and I know that some applications will work and some wont.
I want to make a proper backup before I start messing around with things I know nothing about.
Okay a little clarification / interesting news...
1. Power + up button worked 1 time to let me boot my phone... I tried to restart my phone to test and see if I could still use my phone and it will not get past the Kyocera screen again.
2. Power + up does not boot the phone to any type of menu or recovery mode it only downloads modem data over the air,
so guess what?
3. After using power + up I apparently switched my phone to some type of Verizon pre paid phone which could not call out or receive calls. Wifi still worked and all my apps / data was still there.
4. I am going to have to replace my phone and not make the same mistake again.
5. I have documented this whole process and will be releasing a guide after I can get my new phone going. A guide to rooting and backing it up after I successfully back it up.
6. The program that I used was clockworks recovery free but the problem is they do not have the Kyocera Zio m6000 phone model! DO NOT USE CLOCKWORKS RECOVERY UNTILL HE HAS YOUR PHONE MODEL! You will be right where I am.
I’m going to try a couple more things before I break down and get a new phone...
I will keep you all posted.

Yeah man, those recovery images are phone specific apparently so I would imagine it could do some bad things to let one rip. Maybe shoot [email protected] an email?
I did the same thing, I figured out the way to boot it up but now I am on a verizon network, like the op. I am going to call Cricket customer support and see what they can do.
EDIT: Here is the fix
Go to Settings>Wireless Controls>Mobile Networks and choose home only. Now exit and open the Dialer and press*228 send and let the phone program.
EDIT 2 : Ok well this gets the phone working but does not restore Mobile Web/Data services. Returned phone to cricket and had it replaced free of charge
I am facing the EXACT same issue. I cant get it to boot for the life of me. Its stuck with Kyocera/Modem mode/ or fast boot and thats it. It's just driving me insane. Clockworks free did this to me too
This phone is OVER!
so after having many problems with this phone and the many replacements I just got the HUAWEI Ascend! Its tons better! many of the problems i had with Zio are totally solved by swapping it to the Ascend. I recommend to anyone thinking about Zio, Save your money and buy an Ascend!
Dont even buy the replacement phone for the zio if you have the chance! A replacement costs 80 bucks if you upgrade to the Ascend its $120. Well worth the money in my case.

if you dont want the zio anymore ill take it off your hands maybe i can get a rom to work from it that way im not scared to crash my phone
So I lent my brother my nexus s that had cm7 on it. He got into the clockworkmod, went to mounts/storage, and proceeded to format everything (bootloader, boot data, etc. everything in there) he said he thought that would fix the force closes, I figured no biggie, but now I can't even get the phone into download mode and I have no idea what to do, the phone will simply not turn on
wow.... dont even know why he would do that.
rule 1: dont lend people your phone.
and i dont know why you would try and get into download mode, Odin isn't the first thing you want to go to.
1. turn the phone off (if it isnt already)
2. hold volume up + power
... what happens? does bootloader mode pop up?
- plug your phone in your computer's USB
- does the sound for USB plugged in occur?
- does computer detect it?
Can't access fastboot.
Phone sometimes recognizes it and says this device is not recognized and it couldn't install the usb driver, sometimes when i plug it in it does nothing.
Didn't want to lend it to him, had no choice. I told him he should have just fixed the permissions on the phone, but then again he's not exactly android literate.
thats just dumb on his part.. i dont know why he would try and mess with your device. if it has problems, just ask you first.
its probably bricked if you cant access download or bootloader... definitely bricked if the computer is unable to detect it
your only way out of it is to get a replacement
In Device/Drivers of windows under Unspecified there's this:
SEC S5PC110 Test/BD
says drivers are not installed
Anybody out there with a solution?
I think there is more than one driver you can try, though I've never flashed anything in Windows (Linux already comes with the driver ), so I don't know for sure. I think I've seen people mentioned a few drivers before, try search for all the "brick" threads here.
Easiest solution might be to download a Linux live distribution (f.e. ubuntu) and run fastboot from there. No need to install any drivers.
Kicking him in the nuts will probably make you feel better... I don't know if it'll fix your phone though.

I would try the various methods to get into download mode and use Odin to fix it ...you might be screwed tho

Unfortunately with the state your phone is in it is probably going to be the best advice you get.

any chance that this could help you?
Ddi you ever get your phone sorted ? I'm now in the same situation !
Yes, hit up http://www.mobiletechvideos.com/blog/?page_id=970 For 50 bucks they'll fix your phone and ship it back to you in no time. They got my phone on a Friday, I got it back on either Monday or Tuesday. Of course they're based in Texas and I'm in STL so it could differ for you, but the point is, they're fast, reliable, and professional.
Thanks for that - I'm based in Ireland but I'll give them a shout and see if we can do business......
Thanks a million for the reference PUMA. Please contact me when you are in need of a brick fix. I fix hundreds of Galaxy S / Samsung / HTC variants and several others in a brick of nearly any scenario. I've devoted a lot of time to providing and almost unseen service to people in need versus parting the phone out or trashing it.
Hey folks. I`m new to Android, but I am well versed in how to manipulate Linux systems and I've got a new SGH-i896 that Ive been itching to tear apart.
I've never touched a phone in regards to hacking, and I know there's a lot of system stuff that can be screwed up while tweaking. What I'd like to do is explore these custom ROMs and see which is best for my specific phone.
If anyone could talk me through a good first option for trying out, it would be great. I see so many options, but I'm not seeing a popular choice, or a safe "for-dummies" ROM. Thanks for any help.

Welcome!
Now first you must get your tools (Android SDK, Odin3) and study them a bit before flashing anything. Nothing is safe but if it's done properly your chance of bricking your phone are close to none.
Look in the Dev and Q&A for sticky post regarding flashing roms and how to start.
I would recommend you stay away from Gingerbread roms (2.3) for the moment. It requires to flash a new bootloader and you need a good understanding of how to flash and how to use Odin3 options before you venture there.
For your first flash i would recommend flashing Firefly rom but your free to select the one you prefer. Always read the first post of the rom to learn what it offers and don't.
Happy flashing

What he said^^^
I would start out reading a lot. Start here and here. Use this program to get started. This will allow you to flash FROYO. You can now flash FROYO custom ROMs.To flash Gingerbread go here read post 1 to get directions after flashing Stock FROYO. Once you have the GB bootloaders installed you should be able to flash custom GB ROMs. I stress read a lot before flashing. You can brick your phone easily if you don't. Good luck and welcome to the world of ROM flashing!

I'll second firefly, very nice smooth rom, i used it for over 2 months.
I already had the Android SDK, as well as SuperOneClick. I went ahead and downloaded Odin3, and the Captivate Toolbox and the other linked tools. Thanks for the links by the way. I've also already taken a look at how to flash a custom ROM. I'm going to read a bit more and settle on a choice by tonight.
Thanks for all the help.
Having a bit of trouble on my first go
Hey folks. I went over the reading material that was provided and I went ahead with this guide
[link]http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364[/link]
I got through to the point where I had to use Odin. When I clicked start on Odin, it ran through the predicted cycles and claimed to be successful. My device won't mount now though. I can't see it in my computer anywhere, and I'm not sure how to continue.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
You were on stock 2.1 or 2.2 ?
What rom did you flash ?
What files did you put in Odin and with what boxes checked ?
Is the phone booting normally ?
What part does not mount ? (It's not detected by windows but charges when you plug in the usb cable ?)
Settings>applications>usb settings. Make sure thats set to mass storage.
stock has that checked to kies by default.
Let me clarify:
My phone is currently only sitting at the battery screen, with an empty battery image and a spinner.
I can bring up an AT&T splash screen that says "World Phone" below it if I follow the instructions to recovery mode, but it still does nothing.
I'm afraid I've bricked the phone, and I'm missing some clue as to why.
if something comes up on the screen it is not bricked.....i hate that word
you are not bricked. any sign of life at all means not bricked.
what odin did you use? im guessing odin one click, which means you have a newer build phone and it bootloops when odin one click is used.
get into download at this point you may need a jig, once in download mode use this package and you will be ok (you are canadian right?)http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979133
Thanks for the tip pirateghost.
Hmm, I might be offended a little.
You thank the guy who pops in just to correct your jargon and not the guy giving you a link to help you?

LOL
damn, studa, tryin to drag me into the dirt
I'm wondering if there's a way to do this without a jig. I don't really want to get that involved if I don't have to.
If I do have to, I will, but let's try to keep this in the software department if we can.
Thanks to everyone who's been helping out here.
Lol I was only joking
no harm done
there are a couple button combos to try if those don't work a jig is needed, but it's a very cheap and easy process to make one not "involved" at all or under 10 us dollars if you were to buy one.
Alright button combos to try:
Both volumes held plug in usb cable.
Cable in, pull the battery, hold the volume buttons while reinserting the battery.

-Remove the battery
-Remove the sim card
-Remove any external sd-card
-Pop battery in
-Hold BOTH volume buttons (on the left) and plug usb cable.
Are you back in download mode ?
Okay, I tried all the button combos, and it did nothing different.
I've only got the one micro usb right now. I guess that means I've got to go out and get another, along with some resistors?
This sucks. I guess I should have remained happy with the Android Rogers gave me.
If you insulate the resistors well enough you don't need to chop up the cable... You can touch the leads of the resistor loop thing you made directly to pins 4 and 5 on the phones usb port. Granted that way takes ALOT more fiddling with to work, but you don't have to hack a cable.

So if I get the proper resistors, protect my thumb and finger, and apply them carefully to pins four and five on the phone's connection, it works the same way?
I have a Sprint Nexus S 4G that I've recently rendered without service or USB connection as a result of a fastboot accident. I'm currently running ICS 4.0.3 (Dooderbutt-aosp-v-5 build), but have tried restoring multiple backups on CM7 to no avail. Wiping all user data in CWM doesn't fix it either. I have also tried flashing the LC1 radio zip with no results.
The way I see it, my two best courses of action would either be to try and return to a stock ROM so that I can send the device in under warranty or to continue to try to fix it myself, which has been less than successful so far. Every process I have found online to return to stock seems to end in fastboot oem lock, which won't do anything for me as my phone doesn't show up in fastboot devices, file explorer, or seem to be recognized by my computer in either Ubuntu or Win 7. I've tried connecting on my friends' computers with the same results. I've also tried using another USB cable. No dice.
Sorry if I missed something obvious before posting. I tried to do a lot of research online and have reached the end of what I know what to do. Any suggestions?
Bump.
After some more researching, it appears that there is no way to lock the bootloader except through USB connection with a computer. Does this mean I'm out of luck? Any suggestions as to how to solve this issue? Since my first post, I've flashed ICS 4.0.4 with no improvement on the above symptoms. Also, auto-rotation doesn't seem to work. My Baseband version in About is listed as Unknown. Does anyone have any clue? Replies would be greatly appreciated.
have you updated the android drivers on your computer? you wont be able to connect to fastboot without the drivers. you can get it here http://www.junefabrics.com/android/ do the free download(on your computer) then follow the on screen instructions.

I'm running Ubuntu, so from what I understand, I don't need any drivers. Prior to this fiasco, my computer recognized it as a storage device in the file system as well as a device in fastboot. It doesn't come up as either now.
I had a similar problem after I updated to ICS 4.0.3, what version of Ubuntu do you have, and does the device show up when you run lsusb?
Also, have you checked inside the usb connector to see if one of the pins is bent or damaged?
I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 and no, my Nexus doesn't show up in lsusb or anything else I seem to try. I have checked the pins in the connector of the phone and even bent them around a little bit, but I doubt that's the problem. Since it disappeared immediately after a bad flash, I'm fairly confident this is a software-induced error.
Ok, the only other thing I can think of is a bad kernel or baseband, but since you've tried several different roms, I don't think that's the problem (unless you put on one that's not for your model).
Sorry I can't be more helpful, hope you figure it out!
Thanks for your help anyway. To be clear, each rom has its own kernel and baseband, correct? Are those things I can flash independently of roms like the radio?
Found something, not sure if you've seen it already : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077168
This bit is especially interesting :
"*If your having problems after the radio flash......go to dialer:
Type in *#*#72786#*#*, put your msl in, and let it re-provision"
For the usb not connecting, I had the same problem. After trying every computer in the house, I grabbed a can of compressed air for electronics and blew out my micro usb port on the phone itself. There was a small piece of lint in there that was causing the connection to not be made. It's worth a try.

I'm attempting to try this work around, but I can't seem to find my msl. I've tried putting in an incorrect code and checking alogcat for it as well as the terminal output of getprop. Neither of these give me the number. Sprint mentions using this code for resetting your phone in this tutorial, but I can't for the life of me find the part of their site that shows the msl.
This is exhausting. I really appreciate all your guys' help though. Thanks so much.
Unfortunately, I never figured out how to solve the problem. I took my phone into Sprint the other day and lucked out on the repair technician. He was messing around trying stuff and had a moment of realization when he booted into Clockworkmod. Even though I had voided my warranty, he still let me replace the phone for the $35 fee. I walked out with a brand new Photon 4G. I'm so happy, it's like Christmas in May!
To others who have this problem: sorry, but I don't know what to tell you! Mine was probably bricked. The MSL number didn't connect the phone and neither did anything else I tried. Best of luck to you.
