Can't Fix Permissions...update recovery image, boot into recovery, ... etc.
Advanced optioned are checked in settings. I have Premium. But privileged commands and all that are coming up with errors.
Any advice?
You could try going into your superuser app and clearing its records for ROM Manager.
Maybe somehow it lost root privileges but still thinks it has them? If you clear out the record, the next time you do something that requires elevated privileges, it should request root again.
thank you.
if you are getting this error, please move your market-cache to your SD card:
Code:
cd /cache
su
mkdir /mnt/sdcard/market-cache
mv download download.bak
ln -s /mnt/sdcard/download download
exit
please give this a shot and report back here if this worked (and thank and bump it). i am seeing this error quite a bit lately and i think this might help some of you out.
Thanks for creating the topic. I'm having that problem but sadly your fix did not work for me . I used ES explorer with root to dump the cache all together and everytime I want to download something from market it tells me that there is insufficient space. BTW I'm running Android Revolution HD 1.1.2 if that makes any difference, anyone else have this problem?
P.S. I tried re-flashing with no positive results (Maybe partition problem?)
SOLVED: What I did is go into ClockWorkMod (Hold Vol- and Power button at reboot then choose RECOVERY) and wiped both the Cache and the Dalvik Cache (under advanced). I did not however try just to wipe one or the other I figured I'd do both to solve the problem so I'm guessing it might have just been the cache and not the Dalvik one so try both if you don't have luck just with the one
Didn't work.
But, was able to get it working from this link. Just create a file and run it using either terminal or Script Manager.
Hope, it helps for those facing issue. In my case, the actual issue was that I had converted to EXT4 due to which I had lost 4MB data in /cache, and hence only 27 MB was free. SO, some applications like Cordy (which needs 27.96 MB) wouldn't download. For others, just deleting the /cache contents either via root explorer or E-Strongs' file explorer or wiping cache in CWM would be enough.
PS: Another Market issue which I am facing is that some applications like Android System Info or Lookout Mobile Security can't be installed as it states that it is incompatible with SGS. (Only when doing via the web market, in mobile, no download option comes up)..
Any idea how to resolve this?
Thanks clearing cache and dalvik cache using twrp on my htc shooter fixed the problem for me
About89Puppies's solution perfectly works for me. Another symptom of the problem in my phone was a mount error for cache partition in CWM recovery. Now everything is just fine. Thank you guys!
Just reporting an experience...
Got that the other day when trying to fix my gps locking issues. I was flashing and reflashing roms like it was going out of style. LOL But in the end I got everything sorted.
But in doing reflashing of the roms, I did come across this error when the market tried to auto install all my apps without the use of titanium backup. I got a series of errors reporting that the apps did not install. I just did a wipe and restore to factory settings and then flashed a rom. Everything installed afterwards. I thought it was a formatting issue as well, but it cleared itself out basically.
Cache + Dalvik Cache didn't work for me :/
Hey, I have this problem to! My problem is I have a Samsung galaxy player that clockworkmod doesn't work on (I think). Mine is rooted though.
Edit: I went into dalvek cache with fileslick and deleted some of the files in there but still get the error? I am trying to install wind-up knight if that helps.
Solved!!!
After browsing around, I found out solution:
The problem is in the cache folder (that I assume used by the market) is using small partition (around 20mb in my case).
So to solve this we need to change it to bigger partition.
1. You gonna need Android Terminal Simulator or equivalent terminal app. This will also require your Android rooted.
2. Type ’su’ (root permission request will be showned, you need to approve it).
3. Type ‘cd /’
4. Type ‘umount /cache’
5. Type ‘mount -o rw,remount -t rootfs rootfs /’ (to set the folder access to rw – read write)
6. Type ‘rmdir /cache’ (delete cache folder)
7. I personally using root explorer to do point 5-6
8. Type ‘mkdir /sdcard/cache’
9. Type ‘ln -s /sdcard/cache /cache’ (to link cache folder to /sdcard/cache – which shoud have bigger partition size)
Works like a charm!!!
Thanks to jimmy!

Thanks, it is working now
Hoora! It worked!
Edit; it seems this is only a temporary fix, as I have to keep doing this over and over again.

Perfect...did the job...many thanks!
wiped cache only!
Had the same problem. In CWM wiped Cache only - that fixed it!!
Thanks everyone!
I have this problem.
How did you all follow the OP's instruction, because I can't even install a terminal app.
Clearing cache in the clockworkmod doesn't work for me.
Using android really pushes me to be a creative strategist... oh my...
You can download marketfix. It helps all kind of market problems.
I used to have an error showing there was insufficient space. Now, it works perfectly!
I somehow have managed to lose root access. I have superuser installed but the prompt to give root access to apps does not appear anymore.
I tried to do a factory reset, which was a huge mistake as I had changed the dpi and the launcher failed to start after reset. I tried rerooting using sparkym3s auto rooting tool, but no luck.
I now have the device somewhat operational again after installing apex launcher, but several apps show up as incompatible in the market that used to work before.
How can I regain root?
Factory reset clears the /data partition (you should've just renistalled the Superuser app, possibly a different version, or use and run SuperSU), where your installed apps and data are stored, so it will only delete the Superuser app for managing su access, but the su binary itself should remain on the /system partition. Check for it it /system/xbin/su
What's the problem with sparkym3's method anyway?
Thank you for replying.
After installing supersu it appears i have somewhat regained root access.
I can now change dpi with LCD Density Modder.
However, titanium backup, and several other apps dont get root access, and I dont get a prompt asking for access either.
Rootchecker shows that I dont have root access.
When I run the supersu app, it wants to update, i click ok, but i get error message "installation failed. There is nothing in the supersu log or apps tabs.
The su binary is in /system/xbin/su.
Should I un-root and then re-root perhaps?
I have messed around with this thing so much now, that I would prefer to wipe the entire storage and start completely fresh. Is this possible?
According to this topic I had rooted my infinity but now I did a wipe from boot (volume down + power on) so I lost all my apps including superuser app. My answer is: have I got root yet? Or have I lost only superuser app?

Try a few variants of what you've mentioned, if this doesn't help, you can try re-flashing firmware from the bootloader level.

Just install Superuser from the Playstore and see for yourself before asking You should have your root access back.
When I had the One X tegra3 (my first Android phone), someone wrote that he always "fix permission" (using recovery) after restoring apps using Titanium and never had a problem.
So I guess I'm wondering if "fix permission" is really an important step when restoring app backups.
Thanks!
fix permissions in twrp can help problems, i can rarely get it to work always get twrp soft reboots. sometimes i'll wipe cache and dalvik first then try to fix permissions and it'll soft reboot, or i'll have to mount/unmount cache, data, system and try again. i haven't found a sure fire way for twrp to fix permissions anymore.
I want to switch from supersu to superuser, and having an interesting problem that supersu somehow covered up. I have a Nexus 5x running the stock rom. With every months upgrade I would flash using fastboot, go into twrp recovery before first full boot and remove a bunch of unneeded applications in /system/app. When I would boot up those applications would be gone. Somehow this isn't the case with superuser. I can still go into recovery and remove them, but when I boot up all the applications are still in /system/app. If I go back into twrp they are still shown as being missing. I've tried installing es file explorer, but it's unable to delete the applications once the system is up. remounting /system doesn't work either. Any help?
Unrooting supersu caused all the applications to come back; so does supersu not really delete them either, but somehow prevents them from showing up following the recovery scheme or something?

You aren't doing something right or you don't have something setup correctly. With root, you should be able to unintelligible them completely.
When you removed them, did you wipe cache and dalvik/ART cache before rebooting? If not then the system probably still thinks they are there because they still have data loaded into cache.
I recommend sticking with SuperSU, superuser doesn't work as well as SuperSU

I've been googling a bit more. As it turns out there are two system partitions for nougat; in nexus 5x and some other devices apparently. This became more apparent when the file recovery-from-boot.p; which I rename in order to prevent recovery from being overwritten is not renamed when booting the OS. Nougat apparently pulls the system files from somewhere else. So whatever Chainfire did makes it boot the same partition as visible in recovery. Fully unrooting brings all those apps/system partition back. Haven't been able to find a good post that tells me how to to circumvent this without SuperSU; or exactly how this works.
