Hello,
I am still relatively new to a lot of android stuff here. I have tried to search for similar problems, but I did not find detailed explanations that I could use to figure out what went wrong in my case.
I recently started to try custom ROMs. I have NVFlashed CWM-Based Recovery 5.0.2.8 and rooted my phone, and then I followed the instruction to flash the ROM of Bionix Reloaded v1.4.1 FINAL, as explained here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400620
Everything runs well in Bionix, but it's on Android version 2.3.3, which doesn't work with the baseband (phone call audio has nothing but clicking sounds), which led me to follow the instruction here to update to V21y firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601918
After I did that, the phone audio works now, but this basically gave me back a stock ROM with a lot of bloat.
I had read some comments in the above thread that mentioned backing up the custom ROM via CWM first, then do the V21y update, then re-NVFlash CWM and restore the custom ROM via CWM. I tried this, but it brought me back to the exact same Bionix on version 2.3.3, with the same phone audio problem. Did I misunderstand or do something wrong here? Or is there another way to do it? Please pardon my inexperience and give very detailed step-by-step instruction. Thank you.
try flash the bandwidth that says BEFORE 2012 and also download the app GetRil and make sure your Ril is matching

Yes. Bionix is for older baseband and I thought it wasn't even 2.3. If you want to use Bionix with v21y you have to flash the new baseband zip file.
Based on what you described, do the following:
Follow instructions to install Bionix.
Search and download new baseband zip file.
Flash the new baseband zip file.
You should have bionix with working phone audio (but broken Bluetooth)
Alternatively you can go back to v21e and the flash bionix. No need to flash the new baseband zip file then and Bluetooth would work too.
Post results. Let me know if I am off the mark.
-- The noob says:
Believe you me... Apple suggested LG for Nexus 4
Thank for the quick response everyone. I am currently trying out CyanogenMod 7.2, in which there is no problem with the V21y issue. I like it so far, and I might not try other ROMs for a while, but when I do, I'll post the result here.

I did not know the V21y baseband thing could be flashed with a zip file, and done in a way that doesn't overwrite the existing custom ROM. When I searched, I could only find V21y zip files that are basically installing a new ROM though.
You're better off staying with cm7. You can flash something else but you'll just end up flashing back

Ok, so i have had a samsung captivate since last summer. I just did the official froyo update the other day and it was successful with kies mini. I then decided to root it using super1click which also worked successfully. I have superuser, titanium backup with busybox installed, and super manager and terminal emulator. I also successfully got clockworkmod flashed and working.
My problem is that ive got the new cognition rom on my internal sd card, but when i try to flash it with cwm, i get the 3e recovery failure message. Ive been reading various sites today on how to fix this problem, but every site seems to tell me something different. I ask this question here, because it seems to be the most knowledgeable site to go to.
How do i get my rooted captivate, with all the above installed and running, to allow me to flash a new rom and possible a new kernal down the road? Im about to go insane trying to decipher through all the info all the different sites have said. Sorry to write such a novel on a tired subject, but im going crazy. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

If you would have done a search here then you would have found that you need to do one of 2 things.
1. Flash back to 2.1
2. Replace the 3e recovery with one that doesnt check for the sig.
I dont know how to replace the 3e recovery. I think ill go with flashing back to 2.1. Once i dl Odin and flash back to 2.1, then i can flash a new rom or a new kernel? Will it undo everything i've done so far? Thanks for the help.

Here is a link to the replacement recovery.
Make sure you have the right odin and that your 3 button works right.
Yesh doing this will wipe out everything. Make sure to back up. Do not back up system data at all as when you restore it, it can lead to major issues. Once done with a custom rom it will be wiped clean. You will have to redo contacts, email, and all other settings
Thanks. Would it be okay to just flash a new kernel like speedmod kernal and just use the stock rom? Is that possible to do while im on rooted 2.2? I like the rom just fine, i just want it faster mainly. Thanks again.

To be honest I am not sure. I only had the stock on for a few hours as it was just not that great compared to the 2.2.1 rom that I have been used to running. I need BT voice dial and the added exchange options so 2.2 was not really for me. If you want a stock feel but faster then I would go with COG or one of the other roms based on the kb1 rom.
So I've come to the conclusion that I should just flash back to 2.1 and go from there. I have odin downloaded, but I'm not certain how to use it. Do you guys think I should flash a custom rom from stock, or just flash a kernel with lag fix and delete the bloatware? Thanks.
first flash 2.1 stock to get rid of the damn 3e. custom roms dont replace that always. also most custom roms dont flash with odin.
get a stock rom. read the instructions, flash

If you are getting .zip signature errors when trying to flash a rom (because you are using 3e recovery) you will not be able to flash a kernel.
Supercurio did make a KB1 kernel that is installable via Odin. If you install that, you will also get CWM recovery. Then you can flash anything you want.
Either way you will need an Odin program. Either Odin One Click to flash back to stock 2.1 or Odin v1.7 to flash the Supercurio KB1 Kernel .tar file.

Correct me if i'm wrong but I think the speedmod kernal is i9000 based which would cause a major headache/bootloop on the stock rom.

The problem is, the OP has no idea what he's doing. It sounds like he's wanting to flash to 2.1, then add a I9000 kernel. Since he's all over the place, it's hard to decipher what he's thinking.
To the OP. I'd HIGHLY suggest you look for the stickied "how to" video's by Connexxion. They will tell you what you need to do and show you EXACTLY how to do it. Invaluable info for the noobs.
Here is the link your looking for, download the installer zip file at the bottom of the first post. Extract to your fancy, use the install.bat file once extracted. Be sure to have the phone connect to the pc (DO NOT MOUNT) and have USB Debugging on.

ok no need to flash 2.1
get neldars kernel flashing app from the market
get a kernel for froyo without 3e recovery in the dev section. this one is great
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=547852&d=1300708475
use neldars app (edit) "sgs kernel flasher" or something to that effect. to flash this kernel
then flash cognition
you can also use odin3 but not the oneclick downloader without the .pit file and flash the same kernel placed in the pda slot.
when you installed keis mini, it installed new WRONG drivers (for odin)
reinstall the original other drivers.
BUT. in your OP all you wanted was to be able to flash COG or something.
ALL you have to do is fix your 3e recovery, SEVERAL people including myself have told you how to fix it. then CWM will work! you dont need a computer to fix 3e if you have root explorer (google it $) .
if you are going to flash a custom rom anyway dont bother going back to 2.1.
if you are going to stay stock, 2.2 is better anyway. (aside from 3e but staying stock dont matter)
you can also use odin3 but not the oneclick downloader without the .pit file and the same kernel placed in the pda slot.

@ dani - dude read the thread. odin doesn't recognize his phone.!! try to catch up before butting in...
well that doesn't make my whole post irrelivent. if he is rooted and has busy box he can use neldars kernel flasher. sorry if i over looked something.
Ok, well i got the aio toolbox, and i flashed back to stock. Now im running 2.1-update1. How do i go about rooting now? I cant seem to find a root file. Thanks.
I'm a new XDA forum member, but I've flashed about 5 ROMS, so I have some knowledge of what I am doing.
But I am having a ton of trouble installing the AtomicFusion v1.3 ROM. I started from the stock ROM, rooted it and flashed CWM on it. After that, I tried flashing AtomicFusion via CWM as the instructions on their XDA thread said. It said it installed successfully, yet now I'm stuck in a bootloop.
If somebody could direct me to a simple, comprehensive set of download instructions for this mod, or simply put them as a reply here, it would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and its really starting to get on my nerves that I can' seem to find the solution to my problem.
PHONE: Samsung Captivate i897
Carrier: AT&T
Have you tried flashing the gingerbread bootloaders via odin 1.3? If you are stuck in a bootloop, flash back to stock 2.1. From there, flash 2.3 via odin and a CWM compatible kernel. And then of course place the atomic fusion 1.3 rom on your sd card and flash via CWM as usual. Good luck and I hope this helps.
So i installed a new rom because my 2d/3D camera wasnt working so when i installed it 2D camera worked but not the 3D. so now after Rom i noticed that my IMEI saying unknown and serial and WIFI. so what up.
so if you can teach me how to fix it or get it back to stock froyo. i didnt backup

What rom did you flash? I mean I understand it is gingerbread but was it the stock one .kdz files or was it a custom rom? plus if it was custom rom did you first install the baseband as it was instructed in the rom's OP ( think all roms op have the advice about flashing baseband before installing rom if you are coming directly from Froyo). Which kind of model do you have? Is it a p920 or a p925? More info is required in order to get some help... Anyway look on the guide about flashing .kdz files and use that to return to Froyo or flash gingerbread as a KDZ which installs baseband automatically. PS if your failed install is cyanogenmod don't return to froyo this way. There is a guide on how to revert to froyo from cyanogenmod somewhere...

ohhh. ok first of all you needed to flash the baseband first. there should be directions as to how to do that in kng3d thread along with link to the baseband. second I am not sure if the rom will work as it is supposed to seeing it is made for p920 and not thrill. Still it may. I havent done any research over the matter though. May have connection isues. But flashing baseband is essential for gb to work. Maybe at the thrill forums they have more info. Try looking there first.
Hello!
I just got a pretty good deal on a stock Froyo Infuse 4G, so I bought it.
A little help please! I would love to have the stock ATT rom with the ability to overclock the processor. This is was I have done so far.. plrease don't be so hard on me since this is my first non-HTC device lol.
So the first thing I did was install a "leaked" Gingerbread ATT stock rom using a program called Odin. Then, I root it using that Superoneclick software... I actually clicked a million times instead trying to get it working because I had GingerBread instead of Froyo ... but somehow managed to do it, it is properly rooted and well tested. So! now with my rooted device, I downloaded Rom Manager from the market, flashed it succesfully (at least that's what the screen said)... and when trying to boot into CWM Recovery I got the following errors:
verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
installation aborted.
I tried to flash it via RomManager several times, also did it via SD-Card renaming it to Update.zip and flashing it with the stock recovery.. same error. I searched for more information, someone in the forum said the reason could be an incompatible Kernel, so I flashed the Community V8 Kernel... and my device didn't boot past the Samsung screen... but somehow if I tried manaully to get into CWM recovery, it worked! (just the recovery). Flashed a custom rom that I didn't like... then suddenly I lost the CWM Recovery and cannot then bricked it and was unable to flash it again..
I managed to restore the phone to ATT factory condition using a guide here on Xda (this time the phone kept the leaked GB rom)... then rooted it again and haven't done anything else. Mu question is:
How can I keep this stock rom with the ability to overclock the processor? (flashing different kernels just makes it freeze on boot at Samsung logo).
Thanks for your help!::
here a good start by me:

1. You need to restore you phone back to stock using gtg's unbrick or heimdall 1 click. (See my post)
2. ATT's GB latest is not rootable thru SOC. You can use odin to flash an insecure kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212485) but you will also need to update superuser binaries and busybox as well. Running the insecure kernel for OC, you will lose the video recorder and video player.
It doesn't sound like you can understand enough yet to do this.
3. If you want a stock att and rooted, go to the dev section:
check out zeus stock 5.2, vagabond or victory. These are GB stock base roms with root already done. There is also dman's deodexed, rooted gb uclb3 already with oc kernel...no video

Thanks for the info!
The first step has been done, restored the phone using Heimdall one click after bricking it, the phone was restored with a UCKJ4 2.36 GingerBread stock ATT rom (Kernel 2.6.35.7-I997uckj4-cl694350) and I am also rooted using SuperOneClick.
I don't fully understand step two, will try it once I get some more knowledge.
Question about the third step... does HDMI work in any of those custom stock roms? I use HDMI a lot.

Ive got a lg g2x it has been flashed with different rom. but I put the factory rom back on it. But the baseband is wrong it just clicks when making calls. I fixed it before but now cant remember how to install the baseband. I have the one I need on my sd card just don't remember how to install or load it. Any help is appreciated.
Still no luck ive been searching all day. When I try to install from the sd card in CWM. After rebooting the back light for the screen just flashes and the phone doesn't load. Please help my Galaxy is busted need to switch phones
You don't need to install a baseband. Just the baseband fix. Search in the forums for baseband fix and flash the right one.

Thanks for the advise. Searching baseband fix brings up stuff that I have read all day. Is flashing a baseband different than installing from sd card in CWM? Sorry noob here. Might be reading what I need some where and just not understanding it. How do you flash the baseband? I know the baseband file on my sd is correct because I had the phone working before.
I honestly dont know how to updgrade/downgrade a baseband. But I'm pretty sure it's not as simple as flashing it. Like I said all you need is the baseband FIX for your phone to start working again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776843 Here's the sticky that's in the G2X General forum.
If you're on the new baseband and having popping issues then you need to flash the first download link in CWM. If you're on the old baseband and having popping/clicking issues when calling then flash the third download link in CWM.
Thanks again I have read that sticky. I did see where someone wrote that flashing is the same as a rom. When I go it that way It wont reboot. still searching and trying different things
Tried using the links from sticky. When I try to reboot after installing from sd in CWM. It flashes the LG logo then nothing. Screen just lights up goes dark then lights up over and over. Not sure if Im just not doing it in the right order or what. Can anyone help me with the actual flashing process or explain why it wont reboot

I believe so. Like I said im a noob. I don't do a lot with phones but normally can figure stuff out through forums. Phone is on android 2.3.3 right now. Kernal 2.6.32.9 build GRI40 software version lg p999 v20c. Not sure if any of that helps. Thank you for continuing to reply still hoping someone can be like hey your doing this ------ wrong
You have CWM recovery installed.....did you install it via NvFlash (the correct way) or was it done through the Rom Manager app (the WRONG way)?
First, I would like to know if you are rooted. Do you have the super user or SU app on your phone? You can open up a terminal emulator and type in SU and find out that way also. If it's not rooted, report back and I will give you a zip file that you can flash to easily root the device. Next, I would upgrade the baseband to 2.3.4 with the LG updater tool.
CWM was on the phone when I got it. So not sure how it was installed. I do have the super user app. How can you tell if its rooted? The phone had been messed with before I got it. That's how the baseband got messed up. I found how to fix it on here the first time. But now I cant find the same page/thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037120
This may help
I tried the firmware it aborted install like others were talking about it doing.
I also tried the LGMobile support tool and cant get it to work. Getting really irritated that I cant figure this out.
I fixed it before and now I cant. Would be really nice if it would just reboot with the baseband. But no it gets stuck in a boot loop.
Thanks for all your help Pain-N-Panic kinda surprised no one else has chimed in
Have you tried doing a COMPLETE wipe of the device and re-flashing a ROM?
Complete wipe = data factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, format /system under the "mounts and storage" tab in CWM
I have done all that except formatting the system but just tried it and it still gets stuck in boot loop when I try to install the baseband file.
I should have bookmarked the page last time I know it wasn't this hard
The joys of noobhood
What is this baseband file you speak of?
Stop flashing that. It's not working. Do a complete wipe and Flash a working rom like vanilla cm7. Come back here and report.
If your phone can't flash a ROM and you get stuck in a boot loop I would reflash CWM with NVFLASH. Look around for NVFLASH in the stickies and you'll find it. Do you have an SD card? If so, make sure you choose the version of CWM that has SD card support within the NVFLASH user interface. Follow the instructions in the NVFLASH thread to the T in order to install it on your phoen. My advice:
1.) Download vanilla CM7 from get.cm and cm7 gapps package to SD CARD
2.) Reflash CWM to phone via NVFLASH software
3.) Flash CM7 and gapps from SD card through your newly installed recovery
4.) Reevaluate where your phone stands
Super one click says my phone is rooted.
Ive tried a few baseband files from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680292&highlight=baseband+install.
And the one I used before that fixed it don't remember where I got that one. I can flash roms fine.
Get stuck in boot loop when I install the baseband.
The NVflash's that I found are for different devices. Would that matter? I also cant get the get.cm/app to install on the phone
I may just be having a Id10t .problem here.
I have super one click and odin. No NVflash no CM/app and no KDZ pogram that the above link talks about.
However I did this before was with CWM,SOC or odin
Which phone do you have?
As the story says, a kiss turned my G2X into an HTC Ruby!
Its a LG-P999DW
Pretty sure Odin is for Samsung devices only...it has no use for our LG G2X. If you can flash ROMs fine then your recovery is working properly. Have you tried using the official LG updater tool to upgrade baseband?
