Hi,
If you have s-off rooted phone, why on earth do you want OTA?
A custom ROM should have the OTA function switched off.
It will only mess up your phone by mixing HTC updates with custom ROM updates.
Anything released by HTC will soon be incorporated into custom ROMS.
If you want OTA updates, then s-on and do it.

A lot of people dont load a custom rom after s-off. They have most likely run the Revolutionary tool to root then just stick with stock in which case OTA updates will keep prompting.
As previous post says you cannot update OTA if a custom recovery has been flashed. Go to the Sensation Android Development section and search for a pre-rooted version, download, copy to SD card and flash in recovery.
First thing's first - I'm definitely not a newb.
My phone (Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA) is depended upon for work and person use. I've been playing with a lot of custom ROMs and each and every one of them has their own little quirks.
Because of this I have seriously considered going back to stock, but I want to be sure that I can receive OTA updates.
I realize that I can get everything back to stock via RUU, HOWEVER, with SuperCID in place, would I still be able to receive OTA updates? I've read that the RUU doesn't replace the SuperCID with the shipped value.
If not, how would I get the SuperCID back to the original value (which unfortunately I don't have - phone was bought used and already rooted) ?
Thanks so much!
You can get the OTA with superCID the RUU will unroot your phone and reinstall the stock recovery. You will need the stock recovery or you could Brock your phone
If you want to be on the safe side and rewrite your cid do the steps you did to get superCID but instead of 11111111 put T-MOB010 That should get you back on track

So, by flashing the RUU it won't replace the 4EXT recovery with the factory one?

What about the cid??
Sent from my Sensation XE
No cid will stay the same but that has nothing to do with how your phone runs that just allows you to install the ics custom rom because of the firmware updates needed to run them

you could.. but since you can easily rewrite your cid, why worry?
after u flash stock rom
1. Super CID will remain
2. S-off still remain
I can download OTA from server but after download finish it will not install with the error about variant system (means we modified software).

Are you sure for this? From what I know IF you install stock ROM from RUU, it will automatically unroot the phone, get back to S-On and of course replace your bootloader with the original one. However to be honest I don't know what happens if you install stock from clockwork recovery - maybe that way the bootloader will not be replaced and you will still have S-Off and root.
TO JWhipple: The Super CID shouldn't matter for RUU. However you could always change it back to your phone/operator version before installing RUU.
@up: not in Sensation. After installing stock with RUU, S-OFF will remain still. To get S-ON back follow this guide. I'm sure, tested on my own Sensation
What would be the right order to go with:
Do you start with changing the SuperCID back to the original one forst or would you first have to go back to S-ON?
SIMPLY TELL ME ONE THING
that can we have official update after installing the latest ruu with s-on and unroot but with super cid?????
thanks

installing stock ruu doesnt change the phone to s-on or unroot.......but see the guide to do s-on then u might get the official updates
The ruu simply changes your rom to stock unrooted, changes radio, recovery and hboot. It doesn't change stuff like cid and s-off. In theory you can get ota updates with supercid and s-off. The only thing required, would be the stock recovery

Quick question, a few guides to going back to stock Sensation point or that you have to downgrade the firmware and radio. Is downgrading the radio (and firmware for that matter) necessary before flashing stock ROM with RUU? I did it with the last sensation before sending it in for warranty replacement, but only because the guide suggested it. But next time I wouldn't do it if I don't have to. Thanks ahead.

No it is not necessary. It will be required only if your device is S-ON and RUU version is older. Just remeber that if your phone is S-OFF and you want to put it S-ON again, do that after you have flashed stock ROM.
Hi!
If i`m s-off i can`t receive OTA updates ? sorry for question
As far as I'm aware, s-off means absolutely NO OTA. But you can, download the OTA zip and flash using stock recovery.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using XDA
I may be wrong but my understanding of S-off just allows you to flash custom software like ROMs and recoveries. I don't think it has anything to do with you being able to recieve OTA updates. What hinders you from receiving OTA updates is the custom software itself. The device only looks for the OTA for the ROM it is running. If you are S-off and have a custom recovery but still have the stock ROM you should still get the OTA. You can also use any recovery custom or stock to flash the OTA if you download the zip file for it.
I'd head some people not getting it S-OFF, going back to S-ON and then getting it but might just be coincidence
Hmm. I thought stock s-off + OTA = bootloop?
Or is that a hangover from my Bravo days...

So when my girls phone gets the ICS update will i still be able to root it the same using the same method using Revolutionary as i did mine on stock from stock Gingerbread?
Not at present no - it's needs to be updated to work on the 1.27 HBOOT
Best thing is to go back to stock but leave it S-OFF - that way you can then flash CWM after it's updated

Thanks, I had her wait to get rooted so we can see what that update is like at least on one of our phones...I already done mine when i first got it I couldnt wait lol
So I wonder what the time frame would be for someone to come up with a root method for the Sensation after the ICS update hits....or for Revolutionary to be upgraded to handle that
Because Im sure she will want me to root if she dont like the OTA update. And Im sure she will hit me with the "i thought you told me you would root it after we check out the update" yup opened my mouth to soon...
I'd S-OFF it now, then flash the stock recovery back onto it so you can get the OTA but still have the option if she doesn't like it

Hi there. Got a message on my phone to install new JB Update, BUT, my one S is rooted, hboot 1.16 ,TWRP Recovery, Rom stock 4.0.4.
I probably need to relock bootloader and flash stock recovery. I tried to find some nooby guide about that but no joy and after seeing that a few people bricked their phone I want to be sure Im doing everything correctly. So.
1. Do I need to flash stock recovery first?
2. If so then maybe relock bootloader. How?
3. Run Update. How?
Thanks for answer.
And merry Xmas.

You need to unroot and relock bootloader. After you do this you download and install the update and then you re-unlock bootloader and re-root you want

You can just flash the stock recovery. And change CID to HTC__001.

regarding your phone, i would suggest relocking and unrooting, else it may crash...
i have the same question, im new with my htc one s and i got it already rooted and it runs on a viperoneS so i dont have any idea on how the 1st owner did it and i dont know anything about modding this phone. i try to look at one s forums on how to go back to stock but no luck.
info of my phone( the things i know on my phone)
unluck bootloader
rooted with supersu
clockworkmod (inside this program i saw 3 recoveries in the backup/recovery menu, oneS ics stock, oneS ics rooted, viperoneS)
my one s runs viperoneS 1.2.1
now i want to get back to stock rom because i want to update to official jellybean.
i hope someone can teach me or lead me on how to do it.
OR
should i just wait for viperoneS to update to JB?
Thanks in advance peeps
What's this talk of people bricking during the ota with supercid? I was under the impression that taking an ota while unlocked is a bad idea

It's usually not a very good idea to install an OTA whilst unlocked, there's a small chance it will mess up (higher than if it were locked). But what doubles that chance is if you have SuperCID, the new JB OTA messes up at least 60% of phones with SuperCID. I don't know why, since SuperCID is supported in the android-info.txt.
It might be because when you're SuperCID'd, does it say that in HBOOT? If a new HBOOT like 2.15 needs to overwrite the previous one, it might cause problems. That's just a guess though, and doesn't explain why it went smoothly for other people.
