So, as the thread title suggests, I have Titanium set up such that it regularly clears out my app caches (if I don't do this, crucial apps eventually start FC'ing). However, when I run a cache clearing on my own, I'm given the options to exclude apps, which I do. I usually limit cache clearing to only particular user apps that accumulate large caches.
But, when it's a scheduled job, I don't apparently get this option. It just clears all caches, user and system apps. This results in my wallpaper and keyboard being reset to stock for some reason. Which is a pain in the butt. So I'm wondering if anybody knows of a way to get Titanium to recognize my excluded apps when running a scheduled cache clearing.
Thanks much.

Have you tried not clearing caches on systems app and only personal apps.
It would help to know what device you are currently using.
Information is crucial, don't be so general with your request.

Yes, in my post I stated that when I personally run the process, I clear only user apps. And my device is in my signature, the Samsung Infuse.
Since it's hard to determine what all you have done have you just selected the batch clear cache and not using a "Filter" for it?
I set filters up for all my batch processes where it will exclude certain apps.
I had to as I run a Droid Razr with safestrap and have 3 diferent ROMS on the same phone.
Without the filters it drove me crazy trying to figure out which batch process I wanted to run on each ROM.
Wallpaper reset after cache clear?

Hello dstar,
Did you ever figure out which item to exclude from cache clear to prevent your wallpaper from being reset? I figured out that "Samsung Keyboard" was causing my default keyboard to be reset, but I have not yet figured out wallpaper. If you have any ideas on that for my Samsung Galaxy S4 (probably same thing on your phone), I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks,
Nate
Actually, I figured it out on my own after manually clearing the cache on 90% of the items available lol. Unfortunately the winner was towards the end. The item that will reset your wallpaper if you clear its cache is "System UI". I created a filter that excludes this item along with a few others when my scheduled weekly cache clear runs.
Hope this helps someone else!

Go to Backup/restore then "click to edit filters", at the bottom click on create label
from "add/remove elements" you can add the apps you want to clear cache of and save it.
Then setup a cache clean schedule and in the no filtering list select the label you just made.

THANK YOU! Just found this doing a Google search. Yeah, clearing user and system apps also wiped out my wallpaper and Swype keyboard. I figured out how to exempt the keyboard but exempting "wallpaper" didn't work. SystemUI, ah!

How do you set filters to exclude specific apps with a scheduled batch action? I only see how to do that with manual batch, not with scheduled batch.

So after turning my phone on today, I can no longer see the previous free applications that I had installed on my phone.
Is there a known reason for this or I'd something wrong?
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
This happened to me once, I opened the Market app and there were purchased apps only.
You need to have root to do this, but it's save.
First, clean the cache (Cache Cleaner NG is nice, but you can use "Manage applications" for that), then delete all files from /data/dalvik-cache/ and immediately reboot. Hopefully, problem will be solved.
Be aware that the system will be booting longer than usual - it needs to recreate all the cache. You may gain some space in your phone memory in the process.
Cool, thanks. And yea I have root so ill go and get the application now.
Ill report back when something happens.
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
Well I coudln't get that to work but I DID find an alternative just in case anyone else has this problem.
Basically, Google only follows your paid applications, not the free ones. So when you re root and start over again and if you restore from Titanium Backup, you're technically not installing the applications from the market, hence them not showing up.
I found a program called aTrackDog, which is free, and actually checks to see if your installed apps (whether they be from the market or not) and if there is a newer version on the market, it gives you the option to download and install.
Again, the app is called aTrackDog and I'm using it now, looking good to me.
AppBrain's App Market will do the same thing when you sync it, just to throw in there.
Happens to my rooted aria all the time. No need to wipe davlik just open settings/apps then find market and clear cache, market will then rebuild links. And TBP will most definitely restore links to market despite claims to the contrary above

Thanks for posting, ill clear the market's cache right now. After I clear it is there anything else I.have to do or just wait a while?
And what is tbp?
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
Hmm, cleaning just the cache did nothing immediately, that's why I assumed I need to delete dalvik as well.
TBP - Titanium Backup Pro, I think
So I went from Revolution HD to the Energy ROM and I noticed that all my apps would try and re-install themselves, even after I did a cache wipe, data reset/wipe, and dalvik cache wipe in CWM.
When I first ran the ROM and chose the settings, I would not allow google to backup, synch, etc automatically, I chose to do everything manually. And some of these apps are not paid versions or anything. I even formatted my mini-sd card and removd the Titanium app/data backups and the apps would STILL try to re-install themselves!??!
is your android market linked to your gmail. not the phone, the market, if so android remembers which apps you dl and will send automatically.
And there is no way of deleting this backup either, no matter what it says when you clear the check box for backup. That'll delete your settings on the phone but NOT the Market. Bloody annoying if you wanna start from scratch. By all means keep a note of what I've bought but if I wanna stop using certain apps then let me do it!!!
No way of getting around that. All apps will download automatically that has been linked to your gmail. From my experience, anyways...

Meant to add - OP, good team
Thanks for the reply guys.
Has it always been like that or is it a new feature with the new version of the Market?? I dont remember that happening when I had my old G1??
It came in with the last version of the Market. Handy for a lot of things but not for others!!
If you skip logging into google when you run through the setup, you can avoid the automatic reinstall of apps. (Add your google account manually after setup is complete.)

good observation, i thought it was strange when my apps didnt sync automatically after my last setup... now it makes sense, will definitely keep this in mind, super usefull info thanks!
I jump into the Market right after I flash a new ROM and hit stop and it cancels all the downloads. If you change ROMs a lot and let it download all the apps it'll run up your data usage and get you throttled. That's what happened to me anyway.

I didnt know that either. Good thing I only flash new ROMS at home and do any Market stuff over wifi.
But if I were to backup with Titanium, flash a ROM, skip the Google registration, and re-load my apps/data with Titanium, does that use network data??

No, using titanium backup does not use network data.
I have searched the forum, found results but most of them were of some other phones, and my question was not really answered in it.
Anyway my question is does removing/clearing cache make phone slow? I use ES Task manager to clear the cache, but i noticed after clearing it, my phone became a little slow :S. Not sure whether it was due to clearing cache or something else.
Because what i know that clearing cache make ur phone work fast. :S

Speaking from a PC point of view, programmes that cache clearing and other services that are available to do manually, even if buried under layers of menus, tend to make things worse and drop there own nasties along the way.
So delete said programme and when you want to clear your cache;
1) Open the "internet" app (not via your chosen browser app)
2) Hit "Menu" (the three horizontal dots button in a corner of the screen)
3) Hit "Privacy & Security"
4) Hit "Clear Cache" = done!
optional) & "Clear History" if you want.

NO it doesn't make the phone slow down, may be it makes some apps slow down but just in the beginning, after a while it will be normal, personally i always clear my cache, especially Facebook, Twitter, chrome and Default Browser to have some free space, otherwise, if you noticed some lags it may be caused by apps updates ...
Cordially.

In my book the same applies;
Settings/Storage/
scroll down to phone storage, under that heading use "Make more space" to do the job.

Never mind my brother ...
i want to give you another advice in order to avoid powerlessness of your device, please please please never use task killers !!!, people thought that task killers make their phones smooth, but paradoxically it doesn't !!!, after killing apps android will launch again some apps because he need them, so why do you kill them !!! and when he finish with the apps recently closed, they will be closed automatically, why we need this !!!?, because android want to make your experience more smooth, so please never kill apps .

Yeah i read that somewhere, and never killed any app using a third party task manager after that. I have ES task manager just to clear cache and sometimes check the storage and other phone status (which can be checked through other means as well, but i like all the info at one place).
Once or twice i used the stock task manager to kill some apps, but now i dont even use it to kill apps.

Hello XDA community
I've updated my samsung galaxy s6 sm-g920f to android 5.1.1 and unlocked the multiuser functionality in the build.props file.
However since then it seems like my phone sometimes is extremely slow, and sometimes when switching profiles it can take up to a full minute before it actually does so.
During the profile switch it'll be showing the background of the profile it's switching to, but no oher interface.
Sometimes it'll also show a message that the app that i currently have open has run out of memory (it's shown shortly so not entirely sure what it exactly states).
Anyone else out there having the same issue, anyone found a solution?
I've tried to use various apps to track the CPU and Memory usage, and the result is quite boring, the CPU is not really used and the memory always leaves about 2-300mb of ram available.

Ya,
for the S8/ S8 plus
can we select which to optimize using the build in device maintenance?
One of a very disadvantage is when i select optimize, it will clear all the cache.
Even the cache in Dropbox, so the files(thumbnail) needs to be download again.
Can we select what cache to be deleted?

No, it's not possible, you would have to go app by app to clear only the cache of the apps that you want.
This issue is very vital for me as well.
For instance, I use a very useful app called Call Dispatcher. It lets you identify which mobile carrier you are calling when having an outgoing call and which mobile carrier is calling to you when having an incoming call. Thus, built-in optimiser deletes databases of the Call Dispatcher every time and I got to download them manually.
We have to look for a decent 3rd party optimiser.
The coolest one is the SD Maid; however, only for rooted devices.
So CCleaner does not work on any Android that is higher than 5.x.x
Clean Master is an advertisement monster that even slows the system down.
I have been using Clean Android 2017 but it leaves much to be desired.
There is 1 more way. We can wipe dalvik/cashe in recovery once a week, but I am not sure whether it clears comprehensively.
has anyone tried link2sd to clear cache/etc? it doesn't clear any cache at all. i am on G955FD unrooted.
