If found an app that can delete those useless apps that come pre-installed on Samsung phones.
It's called ''Titanium Backup'', and it can be found in the Market
I found it to be very useful, because some of these apps open up on boot en fill your RAM while not having any added value to your phone.
You can also backup apps as the title, ''Titanium Backup'', obviously suggests.
So you can backup files you are not sure of if they are mandatory to the system before you delete them.
If you are using a custom launcher you can also delete the TWlauncher.
Dude you are talking about one of the most popular applications that requires root access on the market (if not the most popular It's obviously great, no doubt about this.
I'm not a mod or something and please don't consider it a as personal attack on you, but let me just express my own opinion: I don't think this information requires a new thread.
I woudn't delete a TW Launcher since it's the only launcher with hardware acceleration. TB has a better option: "freeze" - you simply shut down process without deleting it. You never know when you will need it.

It is valuable to be able to remove the samsung apps, personally I removed the hubs because I'll never use them.
About apps that launch on startup and occupy ram: please don't worry about this, the android system tries to hold apps in ram so that they can startup quickly when you need them again, the system will move them out if the active app really needs more ram. This is why task killers really aren't worth the effort.

It would also be helpful to have a list of those apps that can safely be removed.
I found that these useless apps take up ram again even if they are not needed. Though everybody says "android handles this perfectly" my system slows down considerably. I installed several always running apps and the combination of wanted and useles apps took up almost all my ram.
I rooted my phone and tried several apps , including TB to correct this situation.
I finally found a nice tool: gemini app manager. It allows me to disable autostart/ notification events so that an App is not reloaded after each fart from the OS.
It reduced my permanent mem usage by almost 130MB!
This makes my Galaxy R responsive like fresh from the box.

That is my main reason forr rooting! And since it's so easy and has no negative aspects - why shouldn't i do it?

I wanted to post it in the appropriate subsection, unfortunatly I was not allowed due to the 10-post rule
So I am a long time Nexus S custom Rom user, and was always very satisfied with the development and improvements of the Roms.
Currently I am on Slim Rom (4.2.2 b5) and I have the problem, that with all the new implementations, I am often running out of memory. w/o having any not necessary apps running.
Mainly I have System, Apex and Swiftkey, which are stealing RAM:
System-UI up to 90MB
Android System up to 70MB
Swiftkey up to 50MB
The System is no more 'snappy', like people say. When I am on browser and change to home, it takes 2-3 seconds. Swiftkey gets killed sometimes, while in use. Free RAM is only ~5MB at this time (considering apps, cache, ...).
So my question is, is our Nexus S slowly not sufficient enough for the recent ROMs?
Or, what can I do to have more free Ram (by deleting apps or killing processes).

my phone is a communication and GPS device that
i take pics with and play mp3's sometimes
it is not a game platform
build 5 is, in fact, quite snappy and smooth
on my device
i suggest a _complete_ wipe
and install of the available roms
without restoring any of your apps
and see how they act stock

I know that a full wipe is recommended, so I am doing this on every build. Format Data, wipe dalvic, cache and battery stats.
App Data is restored via Titanium backup.
Currently I don't know what I could do better.
My additional apps are: AFWall+, Android tuner, Business calendar, Camer Zoom, Doggcatcher, eWeather, IM+, K-9, Moon reader, MX Player, NSTools, Poweramp, Quickpic, RealCalc, Sleep as Android, Solid explorer, Tapatalk, Ti Backup, TomTom.
If this helps?! What is your free Ram usually (including cache and other)?

With cache and system included I keep over 20mb of ram while using apps.. With just apps (how most ROMs have it displayed).. I have around 130mb free.. I use greenify, set background limits and still have over 100 apps on my phone.. I use a theme and themed icons on Nova launcher with three widgets running.. No lag and never have an app I'm using close due to memory constraints...

Greenify pauses unused apps ( does not block them, as they will function normally ).. It doesn't find them, but it does hinder their unwanted activities...
I keep my limit at three ( this can be found at the bottom of developers options ) but I can't tell you what is best.. I used to use only two, but one of my widgets always seemed to stop, now it seems fine..
I also don't keep sync on and limit the ability of apps to auto sync..

Hi All,
So it appears that after installing 4.4.2 I cannot seem to get Google Play Music or Pandora to run without leaving the app open and in the foreground. I'm not sure if there is a function that has to be enabled to do this in KK, or if it is some mod I did long ago to force kill apps that are in background.
I understand this is a bit of a goose chase, but I was hoping people would be able to suggest things to check to see whether we can fix this problem of mine together or not.
- Could it be something in an Xposed Module? XBlast, GravityBox, etc. have a setting for killing background processes?
- Could it be something in the KitKat system itself that has to be enabled / disabled?
- Could it be the new settings within the apps themselves?
- Could it be a third party app (that I may have installed and am unaware of) killing background processes?
- Other ideas?
Apps run when phone screen is off, and when phone is locked, but if I go into a different app the music stops cold.

Ah yes, this is the curse of Android 4.3+. I read in the Greenify settings that in 4.3 or greater, Android killed off an exploit that allowed apps to increase their priority to stay in memory. In turn, running apps can be killed off when memory is low. Horrible. I've had it across all ROMs and stock as well. I've done as much research as humanly possible to subvert this.
I'm by no means an expert on Android. I have really limited knowledge of how it runs. But I think that information in accurate, because my own personal solutions seem to support it.
Generally what I have done is keep as few running processes as possible. This means no live wallpaper, Greenifying as much as I can, and clearing out any recents frequently. If this fails, I have to restart and things get back on track again.
Go into your developer settings and look at the process stats. If it says memory is critical, you'll need to start trimming down your background processes. I don't quite exactly know how to interpret all the data that is present there, but "critical" seems clear cut at least.
If anyone has more information on this, please add to the convo!

Why Google/Motorola would make simple things like this worse as updates come out is beyond me... le sigh.
A "simple phone upgrade" to something unlockable with 2+ GB RAM is my best option I guess, lol.
Agreed. Luckily 2 GB is the baseline nowadays, but I feel like I don't want to take the chance and just go for 3 next time.
While we're still on the subject though, which xposed modules do you use? I wonder if they do contribute to RAM usage.

Xposed list is pretty lengthy, I'm sure something here is using RAM. And I totally agree with you - baseline 3GB (or more) in my next phone, with a quad or even octo-core processor.

I've noticed that Gravity Box and XBlast do a lot of the same things, I'm thinking I can whittle one down as long as I can find all of my settings within the other.
Using NotiSysInfo to monitor I noticed my RAM usage typically bounces between 85-125 MB free, depending on what is going on in the phone. This is double from what it used to be on 4.1.2 (typically I'd be running with about 40-50 MB RAM free). Knowing this, I'm not so sure the phone is killing the music apps based on RAM usage alone, unless the threshold for free RAM needed has been raised...
...if that is the case, any idea of a good app to lower the threshold for free RAM before the phone starts killing things? I was looking at Auto Memory Manager, but it didn't seem to do the trick keeping music alive in the background.
Sounds like a good idea for another Xposed Module, lol. Do you happen to know the thread for posting up ideas or requests?

I think AMM worked for me for a while, but wasn't perfect. Nothing really ever did the trick like a restart... which makes me think that there is a memory leak somewhere, but I could never track it with any app I used. Maybe it is something to do with xposed? I never tested my phone long enough without it.
I haven't had it in a while, and I've done two things since it kept happening consistently the last time: 1) switch from SwiftKey to Google Keyboard. 2) Deactivate Muzei, best wallpaper app ever (RIP). Both apps seemed to consume variably large amounts of RAM.
Another thing I should note is that when frantically googling memory leaks, someone wrote on XDA that Android can only handle so many services running at once, so that when the number is exceeded, it automatically kills one. Possibly, this is the issue with the music.

I found a solution in the "ask Xposed questions" thread listed above. Use the module App Settings and for the apps to stay running in background checkmark "resident". Works perfectly for me now.
I agree AMM is junk. KeepRunning doesn't work that well either. Xposed all the way!
I wonder if this is the same issue I'm having with Hangouts and SMS notifications. It seems that if I have enough going on in the background, Hangouts will stop giving me notifications for SMS. When I go into the app, the new message(s) is there and waiting for me to read it. This to me is a huge problem. I didn't have this issue on CM11. For me, it seems it most always happens if I'm using the Facebook app and viewing a link from Facebook on Chrome. I've now made a habit of checking Hangouts periodically to see if I have any new messages.

I would try clearing your data for Hangouts. Sometimes notifications won't come in if they are associated with an older android device ID.
I have had nothing but problems with hangouts and the messaging app. I deleted both and am using a third party messing app now. No problems.

I'm having problem with "deasapearing ram" Every 2-3 days i've to restart phone completly becouse when i check in working apps settings i've like 40-80 free ram. in use is about 780-820 mb. it does not add up to 1gb anyway. So when i have so little ram to use apps are force to close, mx player, some ****ty family guy app even chrome is closing down. apps like app killer are not helping tehy free like about 10-60 mb. anyone noticed something like me, any advice?

i did it already through pc companion suite. no help at all.
Maybe root and uninstall bloatware can help you with this situation
this problem probaly because of too many background apps
and one more thing .. linux based OS , ram always been used everytime
you can disable some apps like google maps or integrated apps that u dont use
I have the similar problem with my RAM. As 1st, RAM is always at 70% usage.
How can i disable some applications permanently so they do not run by themselves? I dont want to unninstal them, just disable them, is it possible and if it is can u please tell me how to do it in few short steps.
Second thing, beside other apps i have installed Facebook, WhatsApp and CleanMaster app. Every time i go Settings -> Aplications -> Running Aplications, there are these 3 apps always running. I dont know whats causing them to be opened at all times. I think if i open Facebook (for example) even once, it stays up and running in background even if i remove it from that Dock Menu Tab by sliding it a side.
Is there anything i can do to make this stop, and save some of my RAM free?

4.3 is the worst from all versions in terms of memory handling. On top of that it comes very heavy on memory foot-print right after booting up.
After booting up your phone has about 300 - 350 Mb left to work with. Open your Navigation app and your browser, and the memory of your phone is "done". The happy apps reshuffling starts, causing screen lag and app start-up delay.
When a phone app with1 mB in size was considered big, and 5 mB of RAM consumption enormous, than shuffling things around was no prob. Now shuffle a 240 mB Navi app out of the memory, and replace it with that 70 mB home launcher when you are done. Takes the same time and is the same, right? And users have no clue how memory is used, right? And if so many complain about memory handling? But still, Many will tell us "unused RAM is wasted RAM".
What can you do?
- Root your pone and remove all apps you don't need, diligently and consequently
- Greenify user apps, in particular those which you do not need always.
- Rethink if you need to be on Viber, Whatsapp and Skype constanly. If not, greenify.
- Access Facebook from a browser, ditto for other functions and apps where a website is availabe and mostly does the same
- When installing a new app always go for the smaller one that just does what you need to do. Not the one with all the function that you could need, and not the one with more eye candy.
certain apps on android are a no-no. For example, facebook (from what I've heard) and skype use lots of resources and slow down the phone. You should disable or uninstall any app that isn't of use to you. To check the RAM usage of apps and disable them, go to settings -> apps, running will show you current apps, and if you go in all apps you can scroll through them and disable unneeded apps.

Search for an app that lets you manage startup apps on boot. Another way is Greenify, as it unloads apps from memory.
BTW. Cleanmaster is redundant in my eyes.

i've disabled around 15 apps, some sony crap and stuff what i know what it is and i don't use. still the same.
I just noticed that the RealCalc app has used 132MB of background data in the past month (wifi only). Why would a calculator use ANY background data let alone 132MB? This seems really suspicious.
Since this shows up as backgound data only on Wifi I don't expect that restricting backgound data will make any difference since that only applies to mobile data.
Any ideas?
That's odd. I've got it installed as well, and it doesn't even show up in my data usage..
Clear data and cache for it, then uninstall it & reinstall it.

Thanks. Have done that and hopefully it will fix the problem. Only other thing I can think of is that the data usage log got a bit confused when I installed a new ROM recently and is reporting incorrect usage.
I'm not the first one to see this though:
