[Q] phone randomly reboots itself - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I've had my phone for a while now and its been perfect up until about a week or so ago it started randomly turning itself off and back on. I don't believe it's a sticky power button because the button works just fine. Plus the phone will do it while i'm using it, not anywhere near the power button. Like for instance i had been browsing facebook for a couple minutes the other night and it just rebooted itself. Tonight i had it in my hand not using it just holding it and i felt it vibrate twice because it turned itself off and back on. any ideas on what this could be?

What ROM are you using? And I wouldn't rule out a sticky power button yet

3 button reboot

Ok...I've discovered that instead of a battery pull you can hold up on the volume button the camera button and the power button and you will reboot the phone. Works anytime and comes in handy if your phone freezes.

This has been confirmed by me with a functional phone. My phone don't lock up so I can't test that

Thanks! I've only had to pull the battery a couple of times, but I feel like the Epic's back cover might not handle being opened over and over again.

So I did this and I love being able to do this, especially testing my ROM out when I make small changes, but one correction, this shuts down the phone, not reboot. Either way, great find.
I actually like it turning off so I can easily boot back into clockwork to flash things.
That's awesome. Tho it did reboot, didn't shut down.

It's surprising that this is news... I thought by now everyone would have known about it.
Wanna know another little trick? Hold all four buttons (Vol. up, vol. down, camera, and power) and you'll be thrown almost immediately into recovery.

I just tried this (with it plugged in charging, no less) and confirms that this works.. and the BEST part is that it's not just 'recovery' it throws you into clockwork recovery
keep holding them and you'll get there.. (took like 2 seconds I believe)
I find this annoying. My phone reboots at least once a day while I'm at work because of this. I keep it in the stock samsung holster, and if I lean down to pick something up off of the floor, shortly later I'm greeted to my phone rebooting.

Nice now i dont have to shutdown first, thanks for this and thanks OP For the tip on reboot.
So it's tap vol up, power, and camera to reboot. And hold the same three to power off? That's great news I already had to order a new back cover because of having to do all those battery pulls for my stupid mistakes.

Nope, tap, press, or hold, whatever you do you will be shuting down your phone, and it is not just a shut down it is essentially cutting the power so it is instant.
interesting.... if you do the 3 button reboot, and phone is pluged into power, it simply turns off and all you see is the battery charging icon.... if it's not plugged in, then it will reboot
This is great, and all, and if it works when the OS is hung or crashed, it's the only solution.
However, I find the Reboot Widget from marketplace (need to be rooted) to be much easier in most cases.

[Q] Transformers just randomly dying?

I've come a across random posts and threads in which people have reported their transformers just dying.
I ordered one along with my Co worker and we got it on the 29th.
His just randomly died today.
I'm curious if this is really that widespread of a problem or really unlucky people.
Please reply here if your transformer died. Please only post if it died, not if you were able to bring it back somehow.

I thought mine had died but it had just gone into a coma. Has he held down the power button for about 10-15 (force power off), and then held it in again for about 3 seconds to turn it back on? It's definitely a problem that several people here have.
Yeah I have the same issue with mine but doing the force power off and the 3 second power push always gets it back up.

Mine froze on me earlier today for about 5 minutes (I could turn the screen on/off but that was all), about 5 or 10 minutes later I was able to force a power off and turned it back on. Only happened that one time and I'm not sure what caused it.
Are any of you guys using auto-brightness by any chance?
This happened to me a few times after I changed it from manual to auto-brightness. I changed it back today and everything seems to be working as before so far.
Well mine is dead, flat dead. Worked great for about 12 hours It is charged, (I have kept it plugged in) I have tried many different combos of sequences on the power button, my volume and power buttons feel good (some report stuck buttons), no life. But hey, when it was working I liked it a lot.

[Q] Bricked Nexus S. Faulty power button?

Hi guys.
I noticed a few weeks ago my power button started to work when it felt like it. Sometimes it would be fine, other times it would take about 30 presses before it registered I was attempting to use it..
Now it has completely failed.
The phone is currently off, whenever I try to press the power button it never turns on. But as soon as I attach a charger to it (AC and USB), without even pressing the power button, the phone vibrates and the google screen flashes up, but never gets past that screen.
If I hold the volume up button as I attach a charger it attempts to enter recovery/bootloader mode(?), but freezes as soon as it comes on. No buttons work and it requires a battery pull to turn it off.
The phone is also not recognised by my computer, or by odin, or anything.
Not really sure what to do. Would try and flash things back to stock, but can't find a way to do that. Not really sure it would help either?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Oh and I looked through current threads and searched on google but I couldn't find anyone with a similar problem :/
It seems, your power button is constantly pressed. Maybe you dropped it? You should try to carefully move the button in every direction instead of pressing it, hopefully it clicks back to its right place. Other option is taking it back to the shop, and get it repaired. It's a hadware problem, so you won't be able to use neither recovery nor the ROM. The bright side is, that probably it's an easily repairable problem, and won't take too long

I was on an ICS ROM, can't remember which one, but the button started playing up when I was on a GB ROM..
Here's hoping the button just suddenly starts working though.. :L
Cheers for the reply
Just in case anyone else has this problem. My situation looked horrible.. but I brought a USB Jig from eBay and after months of problems. I got into recovery mode and flashed back to stock. Everything is perfect now

Though I am officially out of the Nexus S great community (mine was sold) but a great lesson I learned here is to BABY the power button...I also disabled the screen lock so I can get screen to wake with vol rocker.... take care of the power button folks on Nexus S lol

Well no lol. It started working on its own after I reflashed. It works on and off.. but I only flash roms now that have volume rocker wake and 'sleep' in the notification bar.. i.e CM based etc. Just in case the power button decides to fail completely

Stock ICS has a feature to wake the screen using the vol rocker.
And you can search the market for "Lock screen widget" to shut the screen.
In this case you minimize the need for the power button..That what I was doing..

Help.. Phone is dead

Everythings been running fine on it since yesterday. Earlier, I turned on face recognition lock just to see how well it worked. First try was fine. Been sitting in my holster for a while and just pulled it out to use it. The lock screen was totally blank. I could pull my notification bar down but if I clicked on anything, ie, settings, nothing would happen. Volume button worked but none of the capacitive ones did anything. Tried to reboot, nothing. Held the power button to force a restart, it restarted but still nothing. Held it again for another restart and after the message, it turned off but instead of rebooting, nothing happened. I Power button does nothing. Plugging it in, no light comes on. It's totally dead. Any ideas at all? I sure hope this device is not this temperamental. With my good ole inspire, I would just pull the battery. I have no idea what to do with this one with a non removable battery. Please help.

Phone doesn't turn on unless it's plugged in and then it keeps rebooting every 2 seco

My phone has been acting weird the past couple days. It would randomly reboot but when it rebooted, I would have to hard reset it for it to completely boot up. For the past couple days it would happen a couple times a day. Today it was doing it almost every hour. I was just waiting to get home from work so I could back up the phone and wipe and then it just turned off. I couldn't get it turned back on. When I plugged it into the charger it turns on the Google logo and then reboots over and over again. When I unplug it, it shuts off. I can't even get it to boot into recovery or bootloader because it keeps rebooting every couple seconds.
Just a guess, but I think you're power button is shorting out. See what others think.

Yea I've seen it in another post. That doesn't explain why the phone keeps rebooting as soon as I plug it in. But I have noticed that for the past couple days, the power button was becoming really sensitive as in I would hit the power button to turn the screen off and then it would immediately turn the screen back on. But if its a hardware issue then there's nothing I can do but contact Google to send me a replacement.

I think as soon as you plug it in the battery gets enough charge that it boots but then the power button shorts out and it reboots

I tried tapping on the phone by the button and it turns on the phone for a little bit. Same thing if I wiggle the power button. I'm convinced that's the issue.
