[Q] Touchscreen problem - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi everyone! I have been having a problem with my tf700. It randomly registers touches in the middle part of the right end of the screen. Sometimes it registers one continuous touch, a lot of small touches, or sometimes it works fine. I am currently unlocked and running CromiX 4.4 but this problem started like two months ago after i unlocked the device. The "phantom touches" are annoying to the point of making the device unusable randomly as they mess with whatever i am doing with the tablet. If i put it to sleep and then wake it up the problem desapears for a short while (or for a random interval for that matter).
I wanted to know if there is a way to disable just one section of the touch screen, so these touches dont affect me. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

Try and search the forum. One other guy recently mentioned this issue and had to send it back to ASUS. must be a hardware defect
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app

Thanks, yeah it seems to be a hardware problem. I didn't want to get to ASUS because they will probably charge me a full new touchscreen or something like that, so i thought that maybe there was a way via software to disable just the little section that gives problem in the screen.

Sound like an issue that needs fixing rather than a work around if you haven't dropped it I think it would come up as a defect. So maybe wouldnt need to pay

I will take it to ASUS then. I have not dropped it but my warranty was voided when i unlocked it, so i will have to pay. I live in russia right now, but bought the tablet in the states, hope that is not a problem. Thanks for you help.

Just to be sure, I'd try and reflash an old version of CROMI (3.4.7) -- if the problem goes away, it is a funky incompatibility. If not, you have a hardware issue, but that should fall under warranty.

[Q] Am I the only one experiencing this?

Hi guys I have had my transformer for almost a year now and since the first time I opened it, I am experiencing my tf101's touch screen not responding. Sometimes even if I'm not pressing anything, my transformer would act as if there are multiple touches on the screen? I would have to turn the screen off and back on I'm just curious if everyone is experiencing this, or should I have my tf101 serviced.
I don't know if it's hardware or software, if you havn't factory reset in a long time you could try that. If that doesn't fix then you may have to get serviced.. Never had a problem with my screen. (but I wipe almost every week and flash roms/kernels constantly xP)
Have you tried this? Hope it helps.

<sigh> Tf700 dead in less than 45 days

Of course, its unlocked, so I guess I am just SOL??? What BS... I was just using Tapatalk and noticed some graphical glitches (mouse cursor turned into a 'block', etc), so I decided to reboot - long story short, it now locks up in random places while booting. Sometimes, if I hold the tablet upside down (glass facing ground), I can get it to boot, but then it'll lock up either at the lock screen or shortly thereafter...
I've tried everything - I did manage to get back to stock (firmware updates and recovery seem to work fine), but still cannot actually use the device.
Since it seems to matter how the device is physically held, I'm very sure that its a hardware issue - is there *any* way that Asus will repair under warranty even though Its unlocked? The problem is obviously not related to the unlocked boot loader - just wondering if *anyone* had Asus honor the warranty if unlocked?
Not very happy...

Just the stock warranty, which like I said is voided because I unlocked the device...
I'm just wondering if anyone has successfully received warranty coverage on an unlocked device?
Thanks...

I got my unlocked Prime serviced on the warranty. It had a broken HDMI port. They serviced it for free. The only thing I had to pay for was shipping it to them. Just play dumb when you phone them up. Good luck!

If you can't come up with a better solution, grab a square trade warranty. I bought mine from them when it was about 60 days old. A few months later i had a accident with it on my stairs. It too, was unlocked.
edit... don't ever pay full price for a square trade warranty. there are always 30% off coupon codes floating about.

I'm so sorry!!! Any insights on what might have caused it?
You said you saw some screen artifacts. Were you running an overclocked kernel? May have fried something.
Nope - no over clocked kernel (does one even exist?)... No idea what caused it - I've seen those artifacts before though and reboot always seemed to fix it. My guess is that it was just slowly dying...
I'm going to buy another one today and explore my options for this broken one (square trade is sounding like an idea though!)... I need my tf700!!!

I flipped mine to reboot :
my tablet is not unlocked or rooted ---- twice when it froze up I was unable to reboot -- nothing --- I was freaking out big time --- first time it happened I just gave it a flip - glass down -- and flipped back up (just out of frustration) --- and lo and behold -- it rebooted !!! and worked fine .....
at first I thought it was just a coincidence that flipping worked, but ,
2nd time it happened I deliberately gave it a little flip (just a gentle one -- no shaking it like an etcha-sketch !! ) -- glass down - back up ---- rebooted --- worked fine........and has ever since......fingers crossed..........and I am ohhhh so gentle with it now too ........
When I rang them up about the screen flex which also has nothing to do with an unlocked bootloader they said it came up in their system as unlocked and they couldn't actually book it in for a warranty claim.

Did your device get jarred or any kind of impact that may have caused loose connections internally? If nothing else can be done. Last resort is to open it up and check for any signs that can be the cause of your troubles.

If it has nothing to to with unlocking, they have to repair your device.
Is there no other way to unlock the device, except the one Asus delivered?

They can still repair your device but you will still have to pay for the repair.
and I have no clue what you're trying to write in the 2nd line.
There is NO way to LOCK your device by yourself.

Just asking if there is a way (or if somebody is working on another way) to unlock it with another tool, like on other devices.
It's stories like this that makes me glad I sprung for the 3 year extended warranty from squaretrade. Hope Asus helps you out OP.
Good luck, jtrosky -- ASUS might help you out on this one, and I hope they do. Fingers crossed, and keep your spirits up.
Thanks for all of the "good luck" posts - I appreciate it!
For now, I bought another one and will weigh my options on what to do with the bad one...
By the way, the new one is a C7 and has the exact same amount of light bleed in the exact same spots (mainly, above the dock locking switch), but since you can only see it at boot-up, I have no problem with that. Everything else on this one seems to work fine though.
Leaving this one stock and unlocked for a while, at least until I get a SquareTrade warranty or something!

Ugh... While using Tapatalk on my new replacement TF700 this morning, I noticed that there was a "dim" spot (about an inch long) on the left hand side of the screen (in landscape mode). Upon looking a little closer (from an angle), I can see what appears to be a bad "section" of the backlight which just isn't lighting up - there are actually two of these "defects" on the left side, but the other one isn't at bad. Before I go to exchange it, can someone please check their TF700 and see if they have a similar issue? I just want to make sure that it's just not the was it's supposed to be, although I certainly never noticed it on my original TF700 (which is not with me, so I can't check to see if that one has the same issue or not).
It's just driving me crazy when using an app with a white background -it's very noticeable...
Thanks for any help anyone can offer! I'm really starting to wonder who the hell (if anyone) tests these damn devices!!

I know this is kind of stupid, but just be sure that it's not fingerprints. They showup as dark areas against a white screen. I'm sure that that you have already eliminated that as a possibility, but just in case...
Man, that's bad luck!

[Q] RMA Experiences

Unfortunately, I have to RMA my TF700T because of problems with the screen. I was curious about other users experience with doing an RMA - was Asus responsive? How long was turnaround? Did they repair or replace?
Dave
Yeah I am about to do the same from the uk.
Mine has a snapped charger port and pins can short out if your not careful.
Did it when docking to the keyboard.
I am having to pqy for the repair but would like to hear from anyone who has sent to rma for turn around time etc
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I sent my TF700 first time to RMA repair on September because of screen issues and app crashes. After 1.5 weeks later I received it back in same condition than before repair, even they said it was re-assembled. They didn't fix the issues at all. Screen was still unresponsive and it was not fitted correctly and the apps were still crashing constantly. So, I sent it again to RMA repair on last Friday and it has been there now two days with status "repair". I'm a little bit mad for Asus and if I'm getting it back in same condition again, I'm going to get rid of it
I had heard really bad things about Asus when it comes to repairs/warranty. However I was really happy with them.
I called them on the Monday, they picked it up on the Tuesday and I had it back fixed on the following Monday. I guess it depends a lot on what the problem is as well though and your location. I sent mine back from the UK as it was bricked (my own fault)
Have any of you guys tried unlocking your bootloaders since your Infinitys returned from RMA?
Nope... To be honest I'm a bit reluctant to unlock it again and I'm not bothered about custom Roms.
I did notice though that the build was at .18 on ICS. No problem updating up to JB though....
Hi DNO how much did asus charge you in the end ?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Just received my TF700 back from second RMA repair. It took one week in total. It came back untouched with a report stating "no issues found". OK, the screen is not so bad as seen on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811538&page=12 but it is loose on lower left corner and couple millimeters higher than in other areas. And apps are crashing still. Rooting and unlocking the device shouldn't be the solution to get this device run smoother.
So that's it. I have had enough and it's time to say bye bye to Asus.
When giving feedback on Asus RMA. May I suggest including the country you are in. I heard the quality is different, depending on what country you are from.

They actually did it free. Not sure if it had any effect but when I sent it in I included a tounge-in-cheek note and a couple of chomp bars in the hope that making them laugh might get me out of trouble... Maybe it worked, maybe it was irrelevant all I know is that my beautiful machine back, fixed FOC within a week so I'm happy.
It's hard to guage where service us good and where it's bad as I've heard some bad reports from the UK as well. Maybe the fact that they were just launching in the country when I sent it in added to their good nature as they wanted some good word of mouth.
<shrugs>

[Q] Random Touches

Hi Everyone,
I seem to have random clicks on my screen every couple of minutes. I sent my tablet to ASUS for repair and got it back today, hoping the problem would be solved, however it seems that the problem still exists.
This problem gets annoying when watching a video on YouTube or any video player. Plus when using the on screen keyboard, sometime random letters will be pressed.
I would like to know, is there any way I can fix this and is anyone else having a problem similar to mine?
From what I've read, the majority of Infinity devices have this issue. It has to do with the adhesive used to secure the screen. My device has this problem as well but I've learned to ignore it because the click is barely audible and does not affect anything else on or in my Infinity.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW
I had this problem on my first unit to the point of making the tablet unusable. It was opening random apps and pressing random keys non-stop. I wasn't aware that this was a wide-spread problem.

I know, but sometime its just annoying. I sent it back to ASUS, hoping they might do something about it. Its worse when I browser the play store. Cause it will never let me read app details, youtube video might open, images or sometimes app permissions. Plus this issue is only happening on the right half of my screen.

I think Joe miss read the OPs question. Joe I believe was talking about when you press down on the bezel how it will creek and click which seems to affect quite a few xda members.
I for one have yet to experience random apps opening/tablet being posesed. What has been done other then rma? I woukd suggest the op apply a factory reset an start feom scratch.

Factory reset has been done like 3 times. ASUS says, it might be a problem with the digitizer. Hence had to RMA again. During the first RMA, all they did was a factory reset and my tablet was away for 3 weeks (what a waste of time).

Awful performance issues

Is anyone else having terrible, and I mean terrible performance all around with their TF300s? Mine is barely functional, much less efficient and stress free. All of my internet browsers are always force closing after freezes and crashes. I have to go through several force closes even for a google search to get done. My launchers (Nova and Apex) are always freaking out. Random page swipes, random apps getting opened, random widgets getting opened. Whenever I try typing anything, its always massively behind me, either having each key press appear individually at a slow rate, or just appearing in chunks at an equally slow rate.
It was the same on the stock ROM, and not much has changed since I switched to this Blackbean 6 ROM. I have tried overclocking, but this exacerbates the problem, causing random touches and eventually a complete crash and reboot. I am thinking my hardware my be faulty or something. Is there anyway to check this? I'm pretty sure my warrantee is out the window now since I unlocked the device thinking the stock ROM was the problem.
I got this around this past Christmas, and I am really kicking myself for not picking up a Nexus 7 instead with how this TF300 has performed for me so far. I have pretty much defaulted to my phone for 99% of uses because my TF300 is so unusable, and in fact the only reason I am posting from my TF300 now is because my phone is dead. I can't be the only one with these issues right? I am trying my hardest to like this device, but I just can't do it.

Try using CleanRom Inheritance. Custom ROMs are supposed to drastically increase performance.

I RMA'd my tablet for ghost touches, and ASUS North America fixed under warranty even with the thing being unlocked. If you're going to go that route, you need to be pretty certain that it's a hardware issue, though. And definitely flash back to a stock ROM and check to be sure you can reproduce the issue, and include clear instructions to be sure they don't blame it on user error.
I ran BB6 for a while as my daily driver and never had much trouble. Over time, I started dropping WIFI "on wake up", so I switched back to a stock-based ROM (CleanROM Inheritance, as recommended above). No issues since.
Good luck.
+1 for Clean ROM.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I'll be checking out that CleanRom you guys suggested, and report back here with initial performance and performance after a day or so and see if it fixes the issue. Oddly enough, the XDA app is one of the only things I can use on the device with almost no trouble.

I got mine from Amazon, but I don't think that made a difference. I think the initial warranty is one year hardware and software, and that unlocking voids the software warranty.

Is it really just the software warranty it voids? I haven't done it yet but I have read the legal mumbo-jumbo and it basically says that once you unlock it the device is no longer in the original manufacture condition and therefore not covered by the warranty. I don't think it specifies hardware vs software. There are some people that are able to get their device fixed under warranty despite being unlocked but I don't think they have to.

I will return my unit today, NewEgg gave me the return shipping label. I recorded a video on how to replicate the issue and even write the steps to replicate to be sure. I hope this will replace it even if it's unlocked.
EDIT:
I received an email regarding my RMA from NewEgg:
Your RMA return has been posted, which means that the contents have been verified and your return has been approved.
If your RMA was processed for a replacement, a replacement order will be created for you within the next 1-2 business days.
Actually I just want to avoid inconvenience that ghost touches will get worst cause I only got the ghost touches when from screen off state and you hold the screen then pressing power button you will have ghost touches holding the upper right corner of screen which will prevent you from unlocking the device and can easily resolve by power off then on the screen again. Well I hope I get a bnew without any ghost touches problem coz I miss playing games especially I deleted the OS of my kindle..
