[Q] Unable to Move App to SD Card - General Questions and Answers

Any familar with the SiriusXM Player App know if there's a way to move it to the SD Card? I was reading that some Apps are coded in a way that won't allow movement from phone to SD. Is the SiriusXM App one of these, or is there a way around it?
Thanks,
-Adam

What phone do you have (and what version android)? It will greatly depend on that info. It may be as simple as settings > applications > select the app > move to SD. If it is greyed out, usually that is because the developer has disabled the option.
There is an app called APP2SD that may help, but I doubt it. Most of the apps that can bypass that limitation will require root.

Some phones don't support moving apps to the SD Card (Galaxy S3) for example, although you can move any other files just fine

[Q] Froyo questions

Deleted.
I've noticed a big speed difference on Froyo. I believe it partially opens all (or most) apps in the background so they'll open and process faster. I'm not 100% sure how that works, but yes it's faster on my phone.
It does have it's own tast manager in the settings but that was also in 2.1.

You have the option to move downloaded apps to the sd card. You must be careful not to move any that you are using widgets with or they'll have errors when you reboot or connect to the computer (because the sd is unmounted)
I haven't noticed a jitter. But I believe that's all dependant on what home launcher you use. I use Launcher Pro.

Yes, you can move apps without the 'protected' flag to the SD card. Pretty much all commercial apps are 'protected, but many hefty apps such as games allow you to dump game content to the SD card whilst keeping the launcher app protected.
Yes, it does :-(

FroYo is very fast & smooth, and better than Eclair on my Nexus.

Move to SD = no widget

I installed Cyanogen Mod 7 on my new desire and recently discovered that if I move an app to the sd card I am no longer able to use/ add its widgets. Is this normal?

Yes, some apps don't work if they're on your sd instead of your phone.
The thing is, they do work, just the widget disappears from the list. Namely, I am talking about Evernote and Springpad.

Very normal.
Not sure if it still does it in the latest update, but in the previous version Evernote (2.5?) moving the app to SD also breaks the "take a photo" function. You can take a photo, but they never attach properly.
I'm guessing that the "widgets" are stored in the portion of the app that got moved off to SD. I don't know how Move2SD works, but from what I understand, a portion (which I term a "loader") have to stay in app storage. I am guessing that if the widget and resources stay with the loader instead gotten moved off to the SD card the widgets will still work, but I don't know. Maybe some Google folks can clarify, but that'd be off topic.
What surprises me is that there is any difference. After all, Android is using ext file system and this has support for symbolic and hard links.
Using these, I don't see why a program would operate any different between "/" and "/sdcard/"

[Q] Using microSD for application and data external storage

I've been looking the past day, at threads for the new Tab 2 7.0 and other devices, and I'm lost. I was able to use windows to create the 2 partitions for my microsd and use Link2SD to attempt to move apps to the SD, but it still doesn't work.
I'm honestly most concerned of apps like Rdio, where the music that is saved offline is currently taking up valuable internal storage and not on my microsd.
Is this going to be possible? I am rooted, running stock ROM. Thanks!
Stock ROM does not have move2sd capability AFAIK. I think we'll have ot wait for a custom rom.
From what i herd The storage is emulate (sdext) So maby there's a was to redirect or combinevforvmore storage
p-3113 Puff, Puff, Puff,...... just sende'n smoke signals
you can use an app called directory Bind

Thanks

Thanks for pointing out these app, never heard of it. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work for my scenario (Rdio synced music). I can setup the directories (bind them) but then Rdio won't sync music.
I am in the same boat as you slopokdave I want to use the external for Rdio.
I guess I will have to root my device and figure out a why from there.. I am just stuck as I use mac and there is still no method to do so with it :/
I found a app that works. It's called GL to sd. I think your tab have to be rooted. This app is free on the market.

[Q] Anyone achieved moving app data to SD?

I know that there's been a lot of issues with devices released with ICS (note 10.1 included!) where you can no longer get your application data to your SD Card. I'm just wondering if anyone has found a way around this? I'm running unrooted stock ROM at the moment (Haven't even had it for two weeks. As much as I want to root, I need to wait and see if a problem arises. ) so I'm unable to figure out a way to do it myself, right now.
Hopefully someone's found a way to achieve this, because 11GB of memory just isn't enough for the massive amount of data tablet apps contain.
In another thread, cunfus-ed, enlightened me to a way to move some apps and app related stuff to external . I was able to move some, not all. I'm unrooted by the way. Go into the my files app. Simply locate your apps and click hold and drag into the external sd folder. Voila.

This really shouldn't work, if it does. That's just moving data from your device to SD, rather than creating some sort of link for the app to follow. :s

True, lmao. I was looking more for a way of getting the app data to my SD with the apps still able to use it. Or hot swapping the main memory for the external.
Im just a simple guy with simple solutions. I don't use a lot of apps. I do photo editing and kitchen design mostly so it works good enough for me. I hear where you are coming from its not a true fix.
Thanks anyway, man.
y dont u use this method??

[Q] What is the best way to extend internal memory on 8Gb P31xx?

I just got my new SGT 2 7.0" and was wondering how to to increase applications/data storage on this unit. I know it has to be rooted. But then I got confused: there are different methods out there that are compatible with only certain ROMs, some sorts of scripts that you have to maintain/change manually and etc.
What I want is to install certain applications (Like Sygic Navigation) on external SD card (32Gb) and use internal memory for regular/small apps. The reason is that that navigation app has huge map files that cannot be stored on internal memory - no room..
Another thing I got confused is the way those scripts work: some of them allow to completely swap internal memory for external, some allow data files to be installed on the external card. Can you guys advise what is the best and easiest way to make this happen? Are there any custom ROM's that already support it? My tablet is not rooted yet and it is Android v 4.1.1 (build P3113UECLK7).
As far as I see it, being a great tablet by design - it has a HUGE functional limitation - low memory capacity - only 8Gb for 7 inch tablet. Or Am I missing something
I juat got one of those too I'd have thought 8Gb is plenty for apps. Just get a decent-sized SD card for your data (music, videos etc), preferably a class 10 card. Good luck.

The problem is that out of 8Gb we have only 4Gb available to use. The rest is already used by the system. And that is very, very limiting:crying:

You can use gl2sd app or the foldermount app, both of which require root.the first one allows you to move some apps to the sdcard and the second allows you to link and move large game/app folders to the sdcard(which is what i do, because the swap scripts do not work past4.1.2). I'm not sure if any of the external/internal swap scripts work on the p3100.

You can get it in the play store too, but with this app you can choose what to put on your card.
