[Q] Installed Viper, Missing Stock Messaging App - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey All-
n00b question:
I installed ViperXL 3.2.7, and I'm missing the stock messaging app...how do I get it? I verified that my Voice (Phone) and Cellular Network are working.
Thanks.

I would redownload, check md5 and reflash. It's not normal to be missing the stock messaging app.

Did you check it in the installer to not install? If so, just go through the install again without wiping data except this time uncheck HTC Messages (I think that is what it is called) so it will install.

Cool. That did it. Another quick question: whenever I try to connect to my MacBook via USB, it keeps prompting me with HTC Sync Manager. When I unmount the drive, it'll try to mount the stock USB drive, but will sit there in loading limbo.
EDIT
To state this a bit more clearly: I don't want the shoddy HTC Sync Manager, all I want to do is mount my phone as a USB drive, but I can't do that because HTC Sync Manager takes over.

Don't know about Macs. Try to Google the drivers. And uninstall HTC sync. Isn't macs Unix based? It should pick it up.

Thanks for the feedback.
I uninstalled the HtcSyncManager.apk via Root Explorer. My Notification bar shows the USB as connected, but my MacBook doesn't show my One X as mounted. It did mount the One X when I had HtcSyncManager installed, but didn't give me access to my internal storage; instead, it gave me a link to install the Sync Manager software. I had no issues with USB mounting with Sense prior to rooting and flashing ViperXL.

JB update removed the use of the generic mass storage device driver handling the one x drive mount. I remember someone mentioning it may be possible to change that? That is was some sort of setting. If I were to guess, I would say it would either be a setting within the viper tweaks or within Developer options. I'm not a sense user so I can't verify.
Can anyone that uses sense verify this?

there is a app in the latest viper xl rom called venom sd manager that can change it back to mass storage as to the link to install htc sync you can disable that in venom tweaks

It does launch, but mass storage does not get mounted. One thing I've noticed is that USB debugging is enabled. I've tried disabling it, but it doesn't want to stay off.

edit i think when he said uninstall htc sync he was talking about on your computer not your phone

Looks like ICS moved away from mass storage to mtp. Here's a thread detailing the same issue I'm experiencing. That...kinda sucks.
EDIT
Looks like mtp doesn't play well with 'nix, which is kinda blowing my mind, because it does play well with Windows. For OSX, you need to install the Android File Transfer.

[Q] adb error using shift root and recovery

Help! When I try to root my evo shift with gui shift root and recovery all I get is an adb error message. I have installed htc sync on my laptop. I also cannot connect to sync. These problems may be related? I am running windows vista.
sounds like the drivers may not have installed... Where did you get the version of sync you installed? You're best bet is to use the one off the sdcard. I've had an occasion or two also where things got messed up, and I uninstalled it all and reinstalled. (under programs and features you'll find HTC sync and driver installer, remove both and reinstall if necessary)
I installed it off the sd card and have did the install/ uninstall at least 5 times. still no luck.
i had same error but i just did mine maually. theres a video now for manually rotting it. if you fllow the steps you will root your shift

I'm in the same boat no matter what I do it my shift won't connect to sync and when I run adb devices it kicks a blank line then right back to platform-tools I'm running Vista myself and messed with it for hours and no luck I'm mad because I have rooted my shifts already and don't know what went wrong with the drivers sync or my pc this sucks as I need to be able to adb to help test some things

You do have adb debugging on right... the only other thing I could think of.
Yes I do have debugging on.
have you tried getting sync from htc's website to be sure?
If I'm correct the old version of syn from sprints website was giving me problems loading the drivers. I used the newest version from htc website and voila I was good to go. U may want to try that. I just re rooted earlier use the gui and it worked like a charm

I have the sync from htc website. I still get error running adb try again. Ive used the same usb cord and ports with my archos pad and have no trouble transfering files.
What exactly does the error message say? And with what command?

Ive got temp root now with visionary. And have it set to reroot when i turn my phone off/on. I have wireless tether (non adhoc) which is what I was wanting to tether my archos 101. I still can't connect to sync. Wondering if its a vistas issue?

I'm having the "error running adb try again" problem as well. Unfortunately when I try to run adb from the cmd prompt its output goes to a popup cmd prompt window which disappears before I can read it. My guess however is that it's blank like yours.
I'm convinced I've done everything they way I'm supposed to. Has anyone yet gotten the htc drivers to work under vista?
I had this same issue with ADB..all I did was, while connected via usb, uncheck debugging and then recheck. Clicked root again and it worked.
Sigh, there was a adb update. Install the new version from the sdk, delete the one in shiftrr, copy the new one in, close adb with task manager, then run as you were trying to do before. That fixed it for me.
And make sure when you install the recovery, not to use the one it comes with, it doesn't support the newer roms we have on the shift now. If you want to flash current ones, use clockwork 5.0.2.0, our twrp (recommended)

[Q] Mounting Nexus S i-tunes

I want to use i-tunes with my nexus S.
Already installed i-tunes agent.
When I plug in the device via USB, it says "USB connected" with a green Android display however, it does not give me the option to mount.
I dragged down the USB icon on the top and tapped "USB connected", and nothing happens after.
Thoughts?
Btw, I'm running Gingerbread 2.3.4
Thanks
Up
C'mon nobody uses i-tunes? My music is all messed up with drag and drop.
Your problem has nothing to do with iTunes.
Are you using any custom firmware on your device? Rom, kernel etc?
Have you tried reinstalling your device drivers on your PC?

My suggestion would be to download mp3tag and tag all your music correctly so it then displays correctly on your phone.

I doubt it's a problem with drivers on my PC.
Not using any custom firmware, kernel etc...phone is 100% unlocked. Did not buy it off a carrier.
So when you press the USB Connected notification, you should see an android guy and a button that says mount as storage. Do you mean that you don't see this?

I would suggest you begin eliminating variables.
Try on another PC. Try with another USB cable. Try another phone on with your cable and your PC. Etc.
Also it cannot hurt to download and install PDA Net on your PC. That is the easiest way to know you have the most recent drivers from Samsung installed.

[Q] HTC One X AT&T/Computer doesn't recognize phone

I have question.
I transferred everything to my sd card, there was a function to choose from my phone settings. Afterwards I connected my phone to my computer- which was always detected by my computer without a problem-to clean out some cache files from game folders, using total commander. While I was deleting the cache files I believe I accidentally deleted the sd card folder on my computer (which was associated with my phone.) I know this sounds kind of strange, but I do not have root access or any rights to deleting system files from my phone since my phone is locked because I have a contract with at&t. Now after resetting my phone 3 times, my computer fails to recognize my phone when I plug it in. When I plug my phone in, it charges but it is not recognized on my or any other computer for that matter. My computer states that there is an unknown device but not recognizing it as my htc. I located the unknown device on the device manager and installed all the drivers requested of me from the htc device sync manager folder and that still did not work. I have contacted htc directly and I have contacted at&t. They were not able to offer anything beyond doing another factory reset, which I have already done 3 times.
So my question, is there anything I can do? My phone works and charges it is just not recognized by my computer anymore and I cannot add music or anything. Since my warranty is up should I just unlock my phone and install the new android version? Any help or tips would be appreciated.

A Ubuntu or any other LINUX OS may recognize SD CARD... Give it a try!
btw when you connect it and i assume you have Windows does it even show a semi transparent icon of Removable Storage?
1.What OS are you using on the computer?
2. Do you receive any sort of error messages from the cpu?
I have heard of corrupted or missing usb INF files on computers causing this exact same issue.

Since you don't have root access I'm assuming you do t have supercid or s-off. You could run the RUU. It will completely wipe and restore your phone to an original state. See the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Scroll down and you will find a link for HTC OTAs and RUUs.
Or , as you mentioned at the end of your OP, you could just root your phone and install a custom Rom.
I hope I've helped in some way.

Ok. The protocol for file transfer on the recent ROMs is MTP which automatically connects I believe. You could try disabling HTC Sync Manager. But even if it's connecting to the PC, the MTP protocol allows you to access the sd card on the phone and the PC at the same time.
