Hello experts,
First of all, I would like to share that I have searched around on most of the threads to find a solution for this but have not found even a single one, and hence creating this new thread.
I am facing a problem with USB Mass storage. Please find the case as below.
Previously when I used to connect my phone with my laptop, it used to show a pop-up notification on either I wish to enable USB mass storage mode or on debugging mode or just wish to have my phone on charging only. USB debugging was also working like a charm during those days.
Now, from few weeks (suddenly) none of the computers (I have tried on almost 10 different laptops) is recognizing my phone. Though this is the problem, it gets charged over USB without any problems.
Could you please help with your expert knowledge??? I have tried downloading certain applications from Play Store also but no luck at all.
In furtherance to this, please note that I clicked on "format/emmc" while installing one of the custom ROMs through CWM recovery before few weeks and I doubt that this could have caused a problem.
I even tried following options to get it back on working, but there is no luck.
-> Formatting phone
-> Formatting SD card
-> Reinstalling drivers in my laptop
-> Formatting entire OS of my laptop (thought that if my laptop would a problem)
-> Changing data cable
-> Flashing various ROMs by clearing almost everything on phone
-> Sending adb commands as my phone is able to get connected to adb shell over wifi
-> Replacing SD card
Please help! help! help!

Hi, the Star gT-i9300 and the Tinji I9300 are the same. So you can take a look in this thread.
It seems that you have a driver problem. The message came up directly after connecting the phone ? Or ist the status bar increasing to 100% for one time befor this error appears ?
Installing the correct drivers in the correct way seems to be the main barrier, i wasn't able to get the flashtool run on 2 win7 pc's. XP worked fine from the beginning.
In the thread i mentioned above are also some driver hints, maybe that helps.

so i run flashtool, load MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt, change boot.img with yours one (root-boot.img, i take it in that thread), hit download (now appears an alert and i say "yes") and connect the device (from power off). Now i listen windows usb plug-in sound and flashtool starts to download (with a red bar)...when its at 100% i listen the windows usb plug-out sound and appears that errors...

The first part is like it should be, also the stop after the first 100% ist correct. You should find a message like 'connect USB cable' or something like that in the status bar of the flash-tool.
But after 2-3 seconds it must continue automaticly. Is windows showing a message 'new hardware found' after the first 100% are finished ?
If you connect the phone the first time windows should install a driver at this time.

You took the battery out for a second before you start to flash ? You have tested it with all available USB ports ?
If you hear the 'USB sound' but nothing happens maybe your USB port ist to 'weak' (just a guess). Maybe try it with a external powered USB-hub.
Also installing a different driver is worth a try.

No, sorry. I don't know which drivers i had used. You can try to install PDAnet. This is an often found hint. PDAnet installs drivers automaticly.
Somebody also posted that he had success with this driver.
You disconnected USB cable and battery before starting to flash ?
Update : I started playing around with the flashtool on my Win7 PC where i also wasn't able to flsah anything. Reinstalled the driver and got the same error as you (first 100% ok, then stuck).
I changed the USB cable, used the original delivered with the phone. And all of a sudden it worked !
So maybe try another cable too.

Hello,
I have the HDC GALASY S3 PLUS and would like to root and keep the current version (4.1.1 - JB)
Which option did you use to root using that method?
I just downloaded the file and followed instructions, but only option 1 and 2 available
Device type:
1) Normal
2) Special (for example: Sony Tablet S, Medion Lifetab)
Thanks in advance.
Hi, i have the same phone as you but im on ICS instead of JB. anyone has a JB rom ?
I want to flash stock rom 2.2.1 indian firmware back on my samsung galaxy fit as it is unable to connect to my computer and laptop...my mobile charges but no usb data connection(comp shows a message usb device not recognized) .....result of my little experiment( i suppose.. it is)....Since i am unable to connect ..how can i use odin???( used before when all was well)....
in xda forums i read about converting .tar file(of stock rom) in cwm flashable zip is possible through Android Kitchen,,,,but i dont want to take any risk by creating anything as i haven't created anything before....
PLEASE I AM ASKING FOR HELP ANY DEV/MEMBER WILLING TO guide or making a flashable zip...
I read threads on adb ,, terminal emulator ,,converting of .tar into .zip files,,, and i dont want to take any type of risk AND BY FLASHING STOCK ROM I WILL ABLE TO TAKE TO SAMSUNG SERVICE CENTER TO FIX USB DATA CONNECTION PROBLEM (they will charge me more if they see jellybean in galaxy fit for flashing stock rom)....

I used odin to flash 2.3.6 firmware in download mode and it installed successfully, i wanted my mobile to connect to external storage device(i.e. pen drive) so i made a cable myself and also attache charger power source to that cable(hoping it would work.e. mount & read pendrive) ..After that my mobile wouldn't cnnect to my comp or laptop via usb data cable....it would charge but a usb data connection was not possible .. And finally after trying various methods i think it now is a hardware malfunction(becoz of me) and it should be given to a service center..
Rest all is working fine i can flash diff roms , camera ,wifi all working now using pacman rom so i thought service center would charge me more if i gave my mobile as it is.. they could easily charge more for seeing other rom installed So i wanted stock rom flashable by CWM..
So anyone's help is appreciated.. thanks...

what I understand from your posts is that your phone is perfectly fine but there is a problem with your pc and data cable.
Check with some other data cable, and re-install the samsung drivers for "device not recognized" error.
Use other usb port to check whether its a problem in your pc.

i never saw any such option on any rom yet!
whenever you connect with usb to a PC you get USB connected notification..click on it and enable mass storage.
never saw MTP & PTP in usb connections.
Which rom are you using?
If its 4.+ then try this

In Device Manager in Universal Serial Bus Controllers i uninstalled everything from ASMedia XHCi controllers to USB Root hub... all of them, then clicked scan for hardware changes then i connected my device to computer, then clicked the app USB mass storage for ics and JB ....on computer the elements(USb Root hub, etc.) reinstalled and there it detected my device as unknown device,,,,then for 5-10 sec a message flashed
something like this ,,...". I.I.I.I.I.I.I.I.I Ata mass storage " then it stopped showing not installed...
Using Pacman rom ..does have mtp, ptp, mass storage options..( when i tick any one of the three options it force closes)...
I googled over net on connectivity issue and will need sum time to format c drive and then try again...:fingers-crossed:
I wonder once in odin multi downloader i ticked the debug option only then i clicked delete driver option which may have caused the problem.......
Finally problem solved...replacing charging IC ( as the repairman said) solved comp connection problem then flashed stock rom....

Use the 4.1 SDK. But not sure if that will help. You can try the following.
1.Retry another USB port. Before that Activate search for windows update for new devices.
Or
2.There is an universal android driver somewhere on the internet.
Or
3.try killing adb server using cmd

Battery drains as it keeps connecting back to network after few secs on network drops. I've noticed.
Downloaded the file from pdanetDOTco .I can't post the link as I just joined and my total post count is less than 10. I will give quick summary of how I did it. I downloaded the file and installed in my PC.it ask to choose the device from a list.(chose'others')then connects my device in USB debugging mode.it detects the device and installs the driver automatically from internet.done. actually its a tethering software but most of the devs use this for installing device drivers.
I didn't found any issues from my device.just the battery doesn't last a day but that's OK coz I do play heavy graphics game continuously and browsing.

My laptop has Win8.1U1 and it works fine. It's probably your drivers not registering correctly, download the USB driver off Google's site, remove your current one in Device Manager and install the new one.

Things I can think of
Reinstall Driver
Try another USB cable - sometimes the data pins might be damaged.
Try disabling the Anti Virus
Try another PC
Hope that helps.
Hello guys.
I am facing a little issue. When I connect my phone to pc, it only charges but does not show as an android device on the PC. I cannot transfer files from PC as it only gets charge.
The conventional solution is to go to settings, storage, and mount USB storage, but that doesn't work too.
I changes ROMs and kernels so its not related to that.
I even tried connecting it to many different PCs using both the original cable and different device cables.
I have a Micromax Canvas A116, rooted and custom ROMs installed.
Can't seem to find a solution to it.
Any help will be much appreciated.

I know for for sure that the problem is from your USB mount settings. On my Samsung galaxy tab, I had this issue and you wont believe that disabling USB debugging (under settings > applications > development ) then setting USB connection to prompt (settings > wireless and networks > USB settings > ) fixed this. You could checkout this guide on how to fix an Android phone’s mass storage / SD card that won’t connect to PC using USB cord
