The Missing Photo Sphere / Samsung Orb - Galaxy S 4 General

In the retail firmware the 360ยบ photo sphere is deleted by samsung.
What do you think the reason guys?
Maybe there is patent related thing? I'm sure the hardware is more than capable to take photo sphere.

I read somewhere that Samsung wants to include this feature on Note 3 first.

I have had the AOSP version (photosphere) on my nexus s since 4.2.2 came out. If this phone can handle it surely the s4 can.
It really is more of a novelty feature anyway. Don't get me wrong it is pretty cool, but it is something that I can count the number of times on one hand that I've used it. Most of those times were just to show how it works to people. It is not a feature that I will miss. YMMV...

Photosphere is actually a Nexus exclusive thing. It's not even included in the source code for AOSP.
That's why you don't see the photosphere on CyanogenMod.
So Samsung is developing their own photosphere and they are making it exclusive for Note 3 first.

Yeah I know that. Same reason that the nexus swype style keyboard doesn't come with vanilla AOSP. I had to install both of those separately. Most people just associate nexus devices with AOSP

Rumored LG Nexus Device

With every new iteration of the nexus line comes the rumors of who is to create a new device. An anonymous, non-google employed source stated that the device will be LG made. The source, having handled the device, stated it has LG and Nexus logos. It looked similar to the Galaxy Nexus, ran Android 4.2, and the UI felt "smooth and fluid".

there's rumors floating around now that they're making multiple nexus devices from different manufacturers. then google will just regulate the hardware and will have unskinned andoird on it.

I've heard this as well. I hope this does not happen. A great example is the Samsung Galaxy line. There's so many device with the Galaxy title that do not deserve it.

I believe we won't have that issue, all manufactures would need to implement Googles recipe- if I understand they will have the same internal hardware and running pure android software. Only difference will be cosmetic.
If this is true, does that mean that devs will be able to put out a ROM and it will run on any nexus device?

Porting Note II roms to Note 10.1

I would think that it'd be trivial since they have the same processor, pixel count etc, are released at around the same time by the same company, same s-pen etc.
Seems like it'd be a great way to get jellybean before they actually release it, and tne two communities might really benefit from working together.

They do not have the same processor or pixel count. The Note 10.1 has a Rev. 1.1 Exynos 4412 and the Note II has a Rev. 2.0 Exynos 4412. Also, the Note 10.1 has a resolution of 1280x800 and lacks hardware buttons. The Note II has a resolution of 1280x720 and has three hardware nav buttons. The SoC difference may be trivial, but the others aren't (Although I'm sure it's possible with some minor tweaks). If you're just eager for JB, just wait for the N8010 JB build and flash it. It works a treat on the N8013.

Well the cameras useful but the main thing for me is the spen and snote working

Is it bad to want a Galaxy Nexus?

I have the Galaxy S3 and there is nothing wrong with it but lately I've been wanting to buy a Nexus to use and switch back and forth from. I also been getting the AOSP itch and tons of accessories for the Nexus.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Why would you think its bad? Not everyone likes the same phone, that's why Verizon offers so many different phones to each his own . Good luck with whatever decision you make. I'm sure they are both good phones, you will just have to see for yourself which one is best for you.

It's fine if you want to downgrade. S3 with AOSP is a Samsung Nexus with better hardware. They discontinued the Verizon Nexus cause they all came back and ended up giving S3s for replacements. If talking LG Nexus that's a different story.
I prefer the AOSP look and feel but I have the GS3 .. I installed CM10 and then added mods to show the Nexus style nav bar, works great now. Basically have a Galaxy Nexus system running on the Galaxy S3 hardware. Best of both worlds!
Hey man don't let anyone tell you what phone YOU should use..
I had the HTC DNA, and I traded it for this SG3 black.
I love this phone and am very happy I made the switch even though most think that it was a crazy decision,, but as long as I am happy that is all that matters.
Plus if the HTC M7 makes its way to VZW, I'll be grabbing that
My wife ended up convincing me to let her get the Nexus instead of the S3 because she doesn't like TouchWiz, even though the hardware is better in the S3. I've never seen her more happy with a smartphone! Plus she's now got it rooted and running CM, and she brags all the time to her friends about how awesome it is. I however like TW, and run GalaxyMod at the moment (I'm always switching cuz they're all awesome in some way). So, just weigh the pros and cons of what you like then go for it dude!

I'm a long time HTC Sense user, HTC Eris,Inc1,Inc2,Inc4,Rezound,and DNA - which I traded for the SG3.
I love this phone, and am liking touchwiz. but I really like the options for AOSP.
granted if the HTC M7 comes to VZW I'll be getting that.

No, it's not bad to want one. I loved that phone until I saw how amazing the s3 was. Battery life was absolutely atrocious and I couldn't stand it, I love not having to worry so much about my battery when heading out. I would definitely prefer AOSP over touch wiz though.

Its a matter of opinion. Thats it.

Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
First off, get your facts straight. Touchwiz isn't a launcher, it's a framework, a UI if you will. It's more than a pesky easily-replaced launcher.
And it's a matter of personal preference. Some like the Touchwiz UI and some don't. I tend to favor the cleanliness, sleekness, smoothness and intuitiveness of a good aosp rom.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
You know what's great? We don't need to have these debates any more. Like TW? Leave your device alone. Like AOSP(ish), buy a GE device or flash the GE ROM. AOSP vs. a skin is like trying to debate which religion is best. There is no right answer and people will go to war defending their individual opinions and biases.

I will root if my carrier decides to block tethering on the phone.
I will root to remove apps that came with the phone, but I do not want.
I will root to backup all the settings and data on my phone that I normally cant backup if I did not root.
I will root if I want to use a modified kernel to give me better battery life.
I will root to install call recording features that dont come with the phone.
Rooting is much more than just changing the UI... you are also able to change the nuts and bolts of the system to make it work the way you want because sometimes the carrier or samsung itself wont make things the way you like.

Samsung sold 20mil because it's fan base is similar to apple's, they target the same type of consumers. The majority of those who bought an s4 did it for the wrong reasons (there are always exceptions of course). Having the latest galaxy flagship is nearly equal to having the latest iphone nowadays, according to some people's "social standards".
Despite the fact that samsung phone's quality is questionable, sudden death on s3 and note (actually had it on my s3, and believe me it was a really frustrating experience), burn in amoled displays (had it on my galaxy nexus), smearing on s4, and many other problems these phones usually have. of course not to forget samsung's ability to produce lag in a 1.9ghz quad/2gb ram hardware and cheap build quality.. But still these phones sell, just shows you that with good marketing and publicity you can sell anything.

I think everyone should just get a Note 2. Now that is one solid tight phone. Haven't been this satisfied with a phone since chocolate dipped macarons. Great battery life, solid build etc.
I cant believe i'd ever say this, but I was really put off by the S4 on paper, and even more so after playing with it for a while. So much lag everywhere etc.
Troll?
You're asking "why root?" on a site dedicated to development and customization, usually via rooting.
"not rooted or on a rom" then how does the phone work without a rom...?

no.
its more than just porting. you need the framework for sense to work on the n5, and a kernel to support it. right now you have neither. its not a little work, its so much work that nobody in their right mind would spend the time on it, and for free!
trust me. the only people on this planet that want sense on their devices have already purchased a phone from HTC...the same company who lost 3 billion dollars last quarter.

I understand that but when I used the newer sense it wasn't as slow like the other versions of sense. So to me sense 5 wouldn't be as slow on our n5. Plus if it was then we could remove the bloatware to make it less heavy on our n5.

go ahead. make sure that you get the framework working on a nexus 5 first, then develop a kernel to support sense. really, it would be cool if you do. i wouldnt use it, but some would. the issue is that it would take a mass amount of time and effort to do so, and not many are willing to be so dedicated to it.
I came from having had 3 HTC phones in the past. Evo 4g, evo 3d, and evo 4g LTE. All good phones. Sense wasn't terrible.
I can say though the only thing I miss was linked contacts. That rocked. Otherwise I'm totally happy with stock android and getting updates when they come out, not a year later or never.
