Porting Note II roms to Note 10.1 - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would think that it'd be trivial since they have the same processor, pixel count etc, are released at around the same time by the same company, same s-pen etc.
Seems like it'd be a great way to get jellybean before they actually release it, and tne two communities might really benefit from working together.

Was thinking same thing myself. Unfortunately our development community is pretty quiet.

Maybe someone will be brave and try a straight flash of a GN2 Rom on their gn10.1?

They do not have the same processor or pixel count. The Note 10.1 has a Rev. 1.1 Exynos 4412 and the Note II has a Rev. 2.0 Exynos 4412. Also, the Note 10.1 has a resolution of 1280x800 and lacks hardware buttons. The Note II has a resolution of 1280x720 and has three hardware nav buttons. The SoC difference may be trivial, but the others aren't (Although I'm sure it's possible with some minor tweaks). If you're just eager for JB, just wait for the N8010 JB build and flash it. It works a treat on the N8013.

Actually I think CM10 works really well besides the camera if you're interested in JB. I barely use the camera on the tablet anyway.

Well the cameras useful but the main thing for me is the spen and snote working

Porting a ROM from international version?

So as many know the International version of the s3 has a lot more development than we do here. But my question here is shouldn't it be pretty easy to port them to the VZW version? Its the same phone. And if we switched up to the kexec kernel or something along those lines and flipped a few switches on the structure of some key apks shouldn't it work on vzw?
Sent from my Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk 2
Should yes, easy probably not. Can it be done by some of the Awesome Devs we have around here yes. Will they?? Doesn't hurt to ask.

I am waiting on a non buggy MIUI from the International Gs3. I tried porting one from Galaxy nexus but it didnt boot. I will try again soon someday once our RIL gets worked out. Its really weird right now, its based on a GSM stack when our phone is both CDMA and GSM. They are working on a CDMA stack on r.cyanogenmod.com, and once that gets fully approved I will work on this project.

It is possible. Entropy did this for the AT&T sgs2 so we could flash anything in the dev forums. The only issue was both sgs2 had the same hardware for the most part except for the buttons. In our case it is different; we have completely different processors. They have a quad core eynkos(lucky *******s) and we have dual core snapdragon. This is just one obstacle of many. The best thing to do would be to go an post in the threads for the Roms that you like in the i9300 forums and ask the dev to port it to our phones. You may not get a response but the more people that ask the chances are better the we will see them port some of those Roms. The best rom over there in my opinion is omega rom. Believe it or not they are listening. That how we go some many ports on the sgs2

the tf700 came out before the galaxy note 10.1

and the galaxy note 10.1 appears to have a much better dev community. I can't help but think i should return my tf700 for a note 10.1
thoughts?
samsung devices have a bigger following. that's it.

I think some of this has to do with the fact that there are slight variations from the 300 to the 700, the 300 has a larger community but we can't just grab those devs since the differences in models are just enough to make it a pain, but the models are close enough that 300 owners probably won't upgrade. Compound this with the Nexus 7 and so many modders got that because its cheap and pure android and you see what we are in. Finally, the tablet just dropped (is about to drop?) in Europe so that shrinks the pool a bit.

How much is an unlocked rom really worth? On phones it's worth a lot because of all the bloatware and need to maximize battery life but on tablets ... most have so little bloatware. I would rather have a much quicker Jellybean than all the Rom support in the world at this current time.

I am working on getting custom ROMs on this thing and I am starting with JB directly. No use making an ICS custom ROM when JB is coming soon. Its not been easy to get this done. I have a booting JB version but loads of stuff needs fixed. I'd wait for a JB version and use those libs to make a new build with.

I have to agree. Tablets are relatively clean. I have zero desire to do anything beyond the freezing of unneeded apps that I've already done.

Samsung Galaxy S4 ???

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my Samsung Galaxy S3, however, I'm wondering what else Sammy has in store for us with the SGS4 soon to be announced. Anybody have any new updates on the SGS4 ???

Yeah apparently Samsung are focusing on software tweaks like eye scrolling (another gimmick for mugs)as oppose to hardware improvements. In another words more plastic and more profit for Samsung.
Previous S3 and Note 2 Lte owner I'm pretty sure I won't be parting with £500+ for plastic again.

next week we will know more... it will be revealed on march 14 on time square new york. Anyway, rumours about an octa-core processing unit and a cam with 13MP keep me scratching my fingernails on my table. Lets hope for the best!
When they will present s4 ?
octa-core is just gimmick....there are two processors in sgs4 both are quad core...the phone relies on first quad core with A7 architecture for light use like apps and multitasking...when u play games and use phone heavily it switches the load to A15 quad core processor....so this is also quad core device !!
Now that the GS4 has been unveiled, definitely worth the upgrade from my GS2 Skyrocket, but for anyone that has a GS3, aside from the screen/hardware upgrade and the few additional sensor functions, I don't really see a point in jumping on it (just my opinion) right away, at least not at first. I just know that I held out and didn't get the GS3 because I haven't felt limited by my Skyrocket, so I'm drooling and excited for this gadget pron beast to be turned out on the public. Now the big question comes down to price tag, is it gonna be worth it to be a "pioneer" with it or do I wait for my contract to be up and agree to be a slave again to the carrier?

"Galaxy S2 Plus" What a Joke!

"Galaxy S2 Plus" What a Joke!
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57...ls-galaxy-s2-plus-with-a-shot-of-android-4.1/
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-unveils-galaxy-s2-plus-minor-spec-bump-over-original
JUST LIKE THE S2:
- The S2 Plus will offer a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 4.3-inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus display
- An 8-megapixel camera with an LED flash on the back
- 2-MP camera graces the front
Differences to the S2:
- Many of the plus versions will have NFC
- The Internal memory is 8GB unlike the original 16gb s2's
- Can Support a 64gb card (very likely due to running JB)
- Will come boxed with JB 4.1.2
Main upgrades:
- Plus variant will be running JB.4.1.2 out of the box
So basically Samsung are re-releasing our phone with stock installed JB and will probably retail for a very stupid price, this make me think we are actually going to get an official update well after this releases worldwide which could be a few months. hopefully our devs can port a plus ROM once it leaks. i reckon Samy just getting rid of old stock which was banned to sell in the USA after the APPLE lawsuit, but now the ban has been reversed.
In detail video comparison : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tEDhipUBYc
I'm sure the S2+ jellybean f/w has already been leaked. Does it use an exynos CPU?
If its not broken, don't fix it!

in all honesty i bet its just software related, i cant imagine Samsung changing the hardware for the camera, considering they would have to replace the cameras of thousands of already boxed brand new phones. but maybe they changed the camera its a possibility.

Yep, we'll have to wait till s2+is released worldwide and then the updates will begin to roll out. Add another month to that for each individual region. Ironically jb has already started rolling out for the galaxy s advance... I dont understand Samsung's crazy marketing strategy. With the amount of time they've taken for the update we should be getting 4.2...

If you think deeper you may realize this is not a bad thing. So they are realising "new" s2. since its "new" phone, it may mean that they plan to upgrade it to
further versions of android? If so, since its almost the same phone, that could man further versions of android for us also.

The truth is it'll be the opposite going forward. SGS2 and SGS2+ don't share same h/w components and their launch has a long gap.
Its a hint that support for SGS2 will stop soon

Better screen, higher MP camera, hover stuff that might make it into CM. Otherwise it will be the same software the S3 has.
I love newest/latest/greatest...but I think I will be ok with a RC CM10.1 on the S3 vs. back to nightlies on the S4, at least until my next phone comes out (if a nexus comes to vzw again, or if the moto x-phones look good, i'll jump).
an AOSP camera app that doesn't misfocus all the time.
If the S3 can't hold a decent signal in fringe areas with AOSP after a year or two, I don't have high hopes for the S4 to do any better.

Firstly did you eliminate the fact if it's a ROM issue, a modem driver issue, or the hardware issue? For eg you may want to put on a stock samsung ROM and have a go at the reception comparison.
Secondly, there wasn't any officially built AOSP for the S3.
With the S4, there's gonna be officially built AOSP release that will have all the correct integration with the components

It's a known issue. Samsung never officially released the RIL, so the bastardized versions just don't work as well. If you're in a great 4g area, you'll be fine with AOSP, but handshakes are terrible and reception is lacking. Believe me, I've tried pretty much all the roms with multiple phones. When they work, they work well, but when they don't...terrible. It's sad, really, as I would MUCH prefer non-TW...
