I need to send my Blaze in for warranty work. This is what I've done so far.
Reset the flash counter http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955273
Used Odin to return to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591601
Reset to delete data
Right now my Blaze is back to running 2.3.6. I have already told the warranty department that I updated to 4.0 using KIES. Samsung is obviously expecting me to do a reset before sending it in, but I assume that if I was running 4.0 and did a reset it would still be on 4.0.
Should I update to 4.0 before sending the phone to Samsung or should I leave it at 2.3.6? If so, how? Right now I'm getting a message from KIES which says Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via KIES
Should I use Odin to update to a different version that I can download from Sammobile.com? If so, does anyone know which version I should use?
Any help that anyone can offer would be great. I don't want to raise any red flags when I sent it in to Samsung. Thanks.

Do whatever you want... All they do is a root check and boot it once. If even that. They are looking for cracks and other things you may have left out.
I've sent back 4 phones now, all were rooted and customized. Only 1 did I do what you did. The rest I said F it. They didn't care because nothing was wrong with it hardware wise. ||
they just Re-flash their stock on it and go from there. Keep in mind they can always check. Just is super rare. You are good. They don't care what version it is as long as it's stock.
(also that count reseter doesn't reset the custom binary, they still will know you installed a custom recovery)
That's good to hear. I ended up using the August 2012 from sammobile.com then used KIES to update to 4.0. Hopefully everything works out.

Reset counter doesn't reset the custom binary, but Odin flashing a stock firmware will.
Also this belongs in General.

from what I've heard (and take that with a grain of salt, because I have no personal experience, dont hit me if I'm wrong), they dont care if you have a customer recovery, as long as you have Samsung Official binary with 0 flash count (and often times the flash count is ignored).
Well IM also running a stock ROM... You can't tell the difference only way I could get it to ICS to use triangle away since kies wouldn't recognize my device

Yes, everyone knows by now
ICS for Rogers Skyrocket is available through Kies as an Update as of this morning!!!
Also ROOT works too!!!
Sorry guys for my writing style, hope this is the right place to post it.
Just wanted to pass some news and tips so you know 100% what works and what doesn't.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
ROM UPDATE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Make sure your Kies is up to date and you have all Samsung Drivers correctly installed. If you update drivers and/or Kies software REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER.
It did not work for me when I was on another ISC leak ROM (ICS->ICS no no, GB->ICS yes! makes sense)
So went back and first flashed Rogers Radio/Modem (Radio_I727RUXKJ7.zip) and then ODIN Stock ROM (SGH-I727R-UCKJ2-k0nane.tar)
Thanks k0nane!
After doing that, Update through Kies went with no issues.
(it takes about 15 min so make sure your battery is fully charged and depending on your Internet connection it may be longer or faster)
Some screensots from Kies are attached below.
Pay attention to the messages, especially for the last NOTICE after update shows 100%.
The phone WILL REBOOT ON ITS OWN AFTER COUPLE MINUTES.
DO NOT PULL THE CABLE OUT!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
ROOT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
It works.
Just follow instructions from starskyrob in THIS Guide
Thanks starskyrob!
It actually ONLY works with this version (Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip)
I know that because, of course I got too lazy and used SGSII Toolkit to do dirty work but it only ODINed proper CWM for me and then superuser.zip it tries to flash is 3.0.5 so this version does not work.
Just use Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip and everything will be fine.
Hope it helps some of you.
We waited waaaaay too long for this!!!
Except you tripped your flash counter if you used k0nane's "stock" tar. You're better off using the stock tar from the Sammobile website. I can confirm first hand that k0nane's trips the counter, the stock tar from Sammobile does NOT.

Correct sir! K0nane's trip counter every single time... Always use the sammobile tar. Just register and look for your device in my case "i727" downloading official tar does not trip counter, I really don't know why K0nane has not updated it yet.

Thanks guys, I had no idea the one from Samobile is better. Must check that out next time.
Honestly, it does not even matter to me because there is counter reset zip so it clears that easily and if phone ever breaks it will justify getting S3 LOL

Yeah, not as huge a deal now - but when I was doing it there was no counter reset.
As well, the two files are different in size, I can't recall which is larger though so something's not jiving.
not going to the stock official, going to wait for some devs to cook up some nice roms and kernels and flash the new stuff via CWM.
hope 4.0.4 stock is working well for all though. Good to see it is finally here with the new modem file !
What would happen if an att i727 is flashed with an odin tar of rogers ICS ? I heard that modem works fine on att i727

As mentioned previously, yes you can reset the counter. As also mentioned, I noticed there's a size difference between the two so added to the fact that k0nane's "stock" tar trips the counter and is a different size than the Sammobile one, I'd be inclined to use the Sammobile one. Also, why add extra steps like having to clear the flash counter? Might be worthwhile adding a note about that in the OP for those that don't read the whole thread and are unaware of the flash counter tripping situation.
WiFi problems after rooting official Rogers ICS 4.0.4
Hey everyone,
I just updated from stock Rogers GB to the official ICS - no problems there; however right after I rooted it using the file/method suggested above (again, without any issues), I started having issues with WiFi - it seems to be random but say, about 4/5 times, the WiFi would fail to connect after the phone gets restarted - although the WiFi service is running (the WiFi button is green). Sometimes there is also a system flash showing the message "?WiFi available" with a question mark before the message. If I manually stop/restart the WiFi, it eventually recognizes the hotspot and it connects. I have the Superuser & Busybox Pro PROPERLY installed, furthermore, no other program that requires root permissions seems to be having any problems whatsoever (Titanium Backup, Rom Manager, Superuser, Tasker, CallRecorder, etc).
Although I didn't spent much time playing around BEFORE applying the root, it seems obvious to me that this only occurs after rooting - personally I suspect that ICS 4.0.4 doesn't go along very well with this rooting method (mismatching binaries). I am also aware about a known bug in ICS 4.0.4, causing the WiFi to frequently drop - could it be one and the same?
FYI: I tried installing/reinstalling ICS several times: initially I have updated through Kies, than I flashed the ROM from Sammobile through Odin, and then another couple of time I just reformatted the system in CWM and reinstalled everything again.. At first I used some backups from TB (no system files, only 3rd party), but then, suspecting that backups made in GB might conflict with ICS structure, I didn't use any backups at all - just fresh installations - no difference, same problem.
UPDATE: I have flashed & done some tests with SKY-ICS by seanzscreams. Unfortunately, since it's based on the same Rogers' ROM, it comes with the same problem. I guess this only confirms my observation.
Anybody else having this issue?

Well, actually it DOES work while YES, it does give an error - all you have to do is ignore the error and keep trying; the 3rd or the 4th attempt shall be successful and it'll confirm the process successfully completed.
HOWEVER
Super User 3.0.7 and CWM are two completely different things. The Super User 3.0.7 combined with the binaries (as it comes zipped) is intended to root the phone, while the CWM is a set of tools - having nothing to do with rooting.
My concern is that even the developer of the package Super User 3.0.7.zip admits that the binaries were intended for all Android versions up to 4.0.3 - while, like many others, I was hoping to also work with 4.0.4 - which it does...but it doesn't.
A direct reference can be found here.
Has anyone heard whether or not Chainfire, as come up with a non Odin one click, with CWM Touch & root?

Ok, I've got a couple of probably very dumb questions. So sorry!
I updated my phone to the rogers ICS using kies. Everything is great, but I no longer have Root.
In reading Copperheads instructions this is what I don't get.
I already have
The the superuser zip on my external sd card, as well as Rom Manager, CWM Recovery and titanium etc. They're all present in my app drawer & as short cuts on the phone. What is missing is the root access, why is the message I get when trying to open any of them Is there no way to flash what's already on my phone? Or do I basically have to start from scratch with Odin So I apologize again for the question, it's just hard for me to figure out why, if everything is actually on the phone now?

quick question
Okay so quick question,
If it's better to use the stock odin tar from sammobile to flash back to stock.
Would it be better to flash the I727RUXLF3(ICS) from sammobile right away or go back to stock gingerbread and upgrade through kies.
First of all I apologize if this has been brought up before in other posts. I am in a mixture of frustration and panic right now because I tried upgrading to ICS on my Rogers SGS2 LTE, and it failed.
Using Kies, I followed the prompts, and for whatever reason it didn't finish. Now when I boot up the phone, it keeps telling me to use the recovery mode option in Kies. However, if I do try to use recovery mode, it always times out and tells me I may need to contact a Samsung service center. The computer has no problem communicating with the phone, AFAIK.
Basically, I'm here to ask what options I have. Currently, i'm trying to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 , but because the stock TAR is taking a long time to download, I'm asking if I have any other options. I would like to keep the data on my phone, but if I have to wipe it to return it to normal I'm willing to do that.
Please help.
Reboot and try again

I've tried rebooting the computer I was using, and I've also tried another computer with no luck. I got the latest Kies on the other computer, connected the phone with no problem, and tried recovery mode on THAT 2nd computer, but it didn't work because it didn't recognize my recovery code that the first computer gave me.

I *think* I was rooted. I remember doing something a long time ago involving odin. I never installed Cyanogenmod or any other 3rd party roms.
I had Superuser under my apps, if that helps.
I wish I could reply sooner but this board is making me wait 5 mins between posts. Sorry. It's like I'm in the emergency room with a gunshot wound and I'm waiting for the doctor to finish his smoke break, then his coffee break, then washroom break, jesus
by CWM, I think you're asking about Clockwordmod? If so, yes, I had that on my phone. Does this mean I can't use the steps in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 to fix my phone now? Or can I still proceed.
If you have superuser then most likely you are rooted and since you have clockworkmod especially then kies is not gonna update your phone. Your on Rodgers so you need to find the stock firmware and flash it. I'm on att or I could link you to one that would work. I got my stock firmware from Samsung website. Try going to sammobile and see if you can find the stock firmware for your phone. I'm sure since its Samsung they should have Rodgers firmware to. Download the stock firmware and flash it in Odin onto to your phone and then kies should work. If you can't find the stock firmware at sammobile then look for the stock firmware here on xda I'm sure someone on Rodgers has it....
Edit. The link up there to Odin back to stock should work. Just download the file and follow the steps in order and don't leave one out. There are no shortcuts when it comes to flashing a phone or it could be rendered useless for anything more than a paperweight. Konane is real good and would not lead anyone wrong....

I would still like to get ICS on my phone. I noticed on Sammobile's site that there is a firmware for 4.04 that was released recently. Would I somehow be able to use that, combined with Odin, to get ICS on my phone? In other words, follow all the steps in the aforementioned thread, except, use this newer firmware file? If you're back to stock and on Rogers, you should be able to update using Kies.
The thing is, when Odin fixed my phone, it didn't remove Superuser, so doesn't that mean my phone isn't stock anymore? I was expecting Odin to basically reset my phone back to factory settings, but it seems to have just reverted it back to before I tried updating to ICS with kies.

I haven't used the stock 3e that much always just flash cwm but I would suggest that you do a factory data reset to from the recovery if 3e gives that option I've never used it so I'm not sure. But if you are still on cwm recovery kies will not ever update your phone until you put everything back stock. You must have just flashed the kernel only. Flashing just the kernel does not wipe anything you need to flash the stock firmware from sammobile in Odin and that will do a full wipe and restore everything to stock

Will I then be able to update the device using Kies/OTA? The logic behind the question is that I know the updates need the stock recovery, thus flashing stock with Mobile Odin will give that to my device.
If so, what are the risks in doing the updates with the root? Can it brick? Will it simply fail? What happens when Jelly Bean goes to roll out, will that pose a different set of risks for the device because parts of the core OS have changed?
Just trying to learn more, and figure out what my options are for my device.
PS my device is the P3113.
Just do whatever you want to do right now. When the officially released version of JB is available via Kies or over the air you can flash a stock rom and proceed to update that then. Secondly, I am sure someone will release a version of the stock officially released JB rom with some nice things added and root included once Samsung releases official JB.
You can always flash stock rom and use triangle awat to go back to the day that you purchased your tab with download screen (ODIN/Hiemdall) reset to normal.

I was trying to avoid having to flash over and over again, which is why I thought using Mobile Odin to flash stock, with root, would then give me the ability to OTA/Kies an update.
I guess I was wrong?
I mean if I have to do things the way you described above then I will lol but I was hoping for a simpler way to get the updates, and keep my root. I like the stock, just need to have my root, and don't want to deal with flashing every few months when they release an update/patch/fix/tweak.

I am not really sure what to say to be honest, I always thought that there was a risk in doing these mods, and therefore, the more you do it, the greater the risk becomes.
It's also a convience factor for me, if I can just get the OTAs (while keeping my root) that would make me happy, but I also know there will be a UI patch coming out for it (or I assume there will be) and I will need that, and etc.
I was just trying to KISS (for anyone who doesn't know, Keep It Simple Stupid) since I like ease of use and simple .
So my plan is not possible and that sucks Oh well, live and learn! Thanks!
Flashed to stock with mobile odin now no wifi
i used the method on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856532 and i used everroot and now my tab keeps saying my wifi is too weak to connect when it shows full bars on the scan screen, idk if this is my individual problem or a problem with this method but i havent found a solution yet
Over the past month or so I have tried several times to update my S3 with the Jelly Bean update from Verizon. Each time I try it I get a message that the software failed to install.
O I need to unroot the phone and lock the bootloader in order to update? Anyone else had this problem? Right now I am on Android version 4.0.4 and I think the update is 4.1.2.
I believe for the official update you have to be unrooted and have a locked bootloader unless you do it from kies where it can revert it complete to stock and unroot it.

You are 100% correct. Update will fail due to custom recovery. OP, why not download one of the many JB ROMS from the development section and flash it? Not only will it update your phone, it will be much better than stock as well as easier to install.

I have not yet ventured into flashing other ROMS but am certainly willing to give it a try. I know there are many available but can you suggest one or two that i can try.
Really tough to suggest a ROM, there are a lot of different options depending on what you are looking for. Clean ROM is pretty much stock that has been optimized, I would probably start there since you have only done stock. You can then make a nandroid and flash other ROMS and see which one you like the best.
Just remember, read all of the stickies so that you have everything backed up in case something goes wrong. It takes less time to read and learn it before you have a problem and then don't have what you need to fix it nor the know-how.
Okay, so I download a ROM zip file. I copy it to me microSD card. I have TWRP on my phone. I assume I just go into recovery mode, wipe the cache and Dalvik cache and then just install the zip via TWRP. Is that all I need to do?
Never mind. I just flashed the Jelly_Beans10 ROM and it works fine.
I am running stock 4.1.2 rooted and froze SDM 1.0 with titanium backup to avoid the constant update reminders.
I am now curious can I accept the updates and keep root somehow?
Is something like OTA root keeper worthwhile?
You can still root but cannot unlock the bootloader. I'd recommend reading the 4.3 sticky thread before taking the ota even if you want to stay stock.

Are you saying that because of the 4.3 issues?
I would rather not mess with the phone but I just got a gear 2 neo and it will not connect. I think this is because of the older android version. The specs on the gear software say it requires 4.2 or higher

Ya you need 4.3.
So you have options, since you're have a galaxy gear you're probably going to be running stock TouchWiz, so I would just take the upgrade.
You can root later, but the gear would never work with aosp anyway. Safestrap can make your phone run pretty well with a TouchWiz custom rom if you eventually decide you want one.
Or you can load a custom TouchWiz 4.3 rom right now and see if it connects, then you wouldn't lock your phone down permanently.

Id like to go with a custom rom but don't have a clue what I'm doing.
Thanks for the help

OK then read the sticky threads in the development section, everything there has guides available for rooting and installing roms, then ask more questions if you have them.
Make sure you're reading the older sticky thread, not the 4.3 one.

I've been unable to even get the OTA to work. It downloads then fails on install.
I have reset the flash counter but thought that was all that would be required to repair/delete before running the OTA update.
Does anyone have a suggestion?
Just to clarify the phone is currently rooted (casual method) on 4.1.2. I never touched the rom or bootloader after rooting i just installed titanium backup and froze all the bloat. Id like to get the OTA even if i lose root.
I reset the flash counter with triangle away and did a batch unfreeze with titanium backup. The OTA downloads then fails on install.
You would probably need to unfreeze everything for the update to work, at least thats what I have heard.

Use this thread to Odin flash 4.3. It's the exact same as taking the Ota.

I'm sure you already know what taking the update entails, just be absolutely sure it's what you want to do before you flash it. There's no going back.
