[ROM][ROOT] Official Rogers SGH-I727R ICS 4.0.4 is Out + working Root method - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Yes, everyone knows by now
ICS for Rogers Skyrocket is available through Kies as an Update as of this morning!!!
Also ROOT works too!!!
Sorry guys for my writing style, hope this is the right place to post it.
Just wanted to pass some news and tips so you know 100% what works and what doesn't.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
ROM UPDATE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Make sure your Kies is up to date and you have all Samsung Drivers correctly installed. If you update drivers and/or Kies software REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER.
It did not work for me when I was on another ISC leak ROM (ICS->ICS no no, GB->ICS yes! makes sense)
So went back and first flashed Rogers Radio/Modem (Radio_I727RUXKJ7.zip) and then ODIN Stock ROM (SGH-I727R-UCKJ2-k0nane.tar)
Thanks k0nane!
After doing that, Update through Kies went with no issues.
(it takes about 15 min so make sure your battery is fully charged and depending on your Internet connection it may be longer or faster)
Some screensots from Kies are attached below.
Pay attention to the messages, especially for the last NOTICE after update shows 100%.
The phone WILL REBOOT ON ITS OWN AFTER COUPLE MINUTES.
DO NOT PULL THE CABLE OUT!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
ROOT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
It works.
Just follow instructions from starskyrob in THIS Guide
Thanks starskyrob!
It actually ONLY works with this version (Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip)
I know that because, of course I got too lazy and used SGSII Toolkit to do dirty work but it only ODINed proper CWM for me and then superuser.zip it tries to flash is 3.0.5 so this version does not work.
Just use Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip and everything will be fine.
Hope it helps some of you.
We waited waaaaay too long for this!!!

Except you tripped your flash counter if you used k0nane's "stock" tar. You're better off using the stock tar from the Sammobile website. I can confirm first hand that k0nane's trips the counter, the stock tar from Sammobile does NOT.

Correct sir! K0nane's trip counter every single time... Always use the sammobile tar. Just register and look for your device in my case "i727" downloading official tar does not trip counter, I really don't know why K0nane has not updated it yet.

Thanks guys, I had no idea the one from Samobile is better. Must check that out next time.
Honestly, it does not even matter to me because there is counter reset zip so it clears that easily and if phone ever breaks it will justify getting S3 LOL

wating for the ATT version

Yeah, not as huge a deal now - but when I was doing it there was no counter reset.
As well, the two files are different in size, I can't recall which is larger though so something's not jiving.

not going to the stock official, going to wait for some devs to cook up some nice roms and kernels and flash the new stuff via CWM.
hope 4.0.4 stock is working well for all though. Good to see it is finally here with the new modem file !

What would happen if an att i727 is flashed with an odin tar of rogers ICS ? I heard that modem works fine on att i727

Yes it is, but I have no way to check if it works.
There is few more NFC apps in the system folder comparing to other roms.

As mentioned previously, yes you can reset the counter. As also mentioned, I noticed there's a size difference between the two so added to the fact that k0nane's "stock" tar trips the counter and is a different size than the Sammobile one, I'd be inclined to use the Sammobile one. Also, why add extra steps like having to clear the flash counter? Might be worthwhile adding a note about that in the OP for those that don't read the whole thread and are unaware of the flash counter tripping situation.

WiFi problems after rooting official Rogers ICS 4.0.4
Hey everyone,
I just updated from stock Rogers GB to the official ICS - no problems there; however right after I rooted it using the file/method suggested above (again, without any issues), I started having issues with WiFi - it seems to be random but say, about 4/5 times, the WiFi would fail to connect after the phone gets restarted - although the WiFi service is running (the WiFi button is green). Sometimes there is also a system flash showing the message "?WiFi available" with a question mark before the message. If I manually stop/restart the WiFi, it eventually recognizes the hotspot and it connects. I have the Superuser & Busybox Pro PROPERLY installed, furthermore, no other program that requires root permissions seems to be having any problems whatsoever (Titanium Backup, Rom Manager, Superuser, Tasker, CallRecorder, etc).
Although I didn't spent much time playing around BEFORE applying the root, it seems obvious to me that this only occurs after rooting - personally I suspect that ICS 4.0.4 doesn't go along very well with this rooting method (mismatching binaries). I am also aware about a known bug in ICS 4.0.4, causing the WiFi to frequently drop - could it be one and the same?
FYI: I tried installing/reinstalling ICS several times: initially I have updated through Kies, than I flashed the ROM from Sammobile through Odin, and then another couple of time I just reformatted the system in CWM and reinstalled everything again.. At first I used some backups from TB (no system files, only 3rd party), but then, suspecting that backups made in GB might conflict with ICS structure, I didn't use any backups at all - just fresh installations - no difference, same problem.
UPDATE: I have flashed & done some tests with SKY-ICS by seanzscreams. Unfortunately, since it's based on the same Rogers' ROM, it comes with the same problem. I guess this only confirms my observation.
Anybody else having this issue?

Well, actually it DOES work while YES, it does give an error - all you have to do is ignore the error and keep trying; the 3rd or the 4th attempt shall be successful and it'll confirm the process successfully completed.
HOWEVER
Super User 3.0.7 and CWM are two completely different things. The Super User 3.0.7 combined with the binaries (as it comes zipped) is intended to root the phone, while the CWM is a set of tools - having nothing to do with rooting.
My concern is that even the developer of the package Super User 3.0.7.zip admits that the binaries were intended for all Android versions up to 4.0.3 - while, like many others, I was hoping to also work with 4.0.4 - which it does...but it doesn't.
A direct reference can be found here.

Has anyone heard whether or not Chainfire, as come up with a non Odin one click, with CWM Touch & root?
I get the feeling that can do all this in his sleep!

Ok, I've got a couple of probably very dumb questions. So sorry!
I updated my phone to the rogers ICS using kies. Everything is great, but I no longer have Root.
In reading Copperheads instructions this is what I don't get.
I already have
The the superuser zip on my external sd card, as well as Rom Manager, CWM Recovery and titanium etc. They're all present in my app drawer & as short cuts on the phone. What is missing is the root access, why is the message I get when trying to open any of them Is there no way to flash what's already on my phone? Or do I basically have to start from scratch with Odin So I apologize again for the question, it's just hard for me to figure out why, if everything is actually on the phone now?

quick question
Okay so quick question,
If it's better to use the stock odin tar from sammobile to flash back to stock.
Would it be better to flash the I727RUXLF3(ICS) from sammobile right away or go back to stock gingerbread and upgrade through kies.

bootloaders! aka fix the rainbow garbage on awesome rom leaks

ok i see since it has been so long since all the rogers development started people dont really remember about all the rainbow problems and how they were fixed and how the fix needs source code.
we now have bootloaders available in leaks from samsung. they are needed with the stock kernels that come in the leaks to avoid rainbow garbage. i am providing the bootloaders to be flashed in heimdall without having to flash a whole rom.
i would like to make this explicitly clear that if this bricks your phone i am not to blame. there is a significant risk when flashing bootloaders! though the infuse seems to have safety measures i strongly recommend only flashing once. and if your phone becomes a brick you will need to solder things to the phone to fix it via j-tag or adam outlers unbrickable mod. be cautious! dont flash boot.bin without sbl.bin, dont flash sbl.bin without boot.bin, dont mix up the partitions, and if the phone bricks i dont want to know about it unless you want to pay me to fix it!
heimdall package
http://www.multiupload.com/GXUTF4QCJX
odin package (untested)
http://www.multiupload.com.... REMOVED May be failing to flash. very dangerous situation...
bootloaders for heimdall to be added through the "flash" tab (unzip first! ibl/pbl-boot.bin, sbl-sbl.bin)

good luck!

Yeah. Thanks for posting, Dani.
do you know if there its any difference in bootloaders amongst different gingerbread leaks?
I have been running the first leaked gingerbread's bootloaders since Prezkit gave them to us and have had zero issues. I think it was kk1? I've been taking an "if it ain't broke" stance. its going good!

there is difs. but I couldn't tell you what. I saw posts by Linux bozo who did binary diferencials but I don't see any difference.
I know the bootloaders have a counter for customer kernels. if you flash the parameters.ifs from the ultimate unbrick it resets it. I also know they changed the galaxy s 2 bootloaders so it was harder to reset the counter so don't expect to be able to reset it when the official update comes along. I also have been using the "if it ain't broke " theory and honestly don't remember which I am using. the packages here are uckk3. if people can test if the counter can still be reset by flashing param.ifs let me know. ill post older bootloaders if it can't otherwise I can't think of any reason to pick one over another.
If i am flashing the bootloaders via odin does the .tar file go in the pda slot. thank you for this.

yes. that's how I would do it. the PDA slot seems to be automatic as far as partition sorting. the phone slot is for modems but if a modem is included in a package for the PDA slot it flashes just fine. the bootloaders are in the PDA packages normally so that's how I would do it.
please report results because I don't run windows and did not test that package.
I will report back once i get around to flashing the bootloaders. Thanks again for this.

don't select repartition, no need for a pit, the rom shouldn't matter, the file should go in the PDA slot. remember I haven't tested it in Odin. I don't run windows and have little interest in using Odin for anything. phone needs to be in download mode just like flahong a rom. it should only take a second or two to flash. good luck
Cool i should be able to figure this out. Thanks for the quick response.
It didn't work. I had auto restart, f.reset and the PDA slot checked after i opened the file in the PDA slot and after clicking start it just sat at setup for 45 min until i gave up and flashed back to stock. I had to pull the cord while in download mode and the screen turned black with green dots so i had to flash blindly. I tried it twice and the same thing. Has anyone else tried this?

I have a bunch of downloads but nobody reported anything at all till now.
ill pull the Odin version for now. try it in heimdall. its not any harder to use.
Can you post an odin package.
I had an Odin package. I got a few downloads, didn't get any people thanking for it, didn't get any positive feedback that it worked and had one user report problems, see the last couple posts. I pulled the file for lack of evidence that it worked. I don't run windows and prefer heimdall so I haven't tested it in Odin. sorry but I suggest you either flash an entire rom leak then flash a non secure kernel through Odin ( any custom kernel should do also flashing back to stock should also do just fine) and then flash a rom or learn heimdall which works on windows as well as Mac and Linux. I would have done a oneclick package but it still requires the installation of the heimdall back end and I figured it was really no harder to just use the heimdall package system.
any chance of relink thats not at multiupload?
edit: disregard, found a workaround. might be useful in future tho.

If you recieve a new update..tonight/tomarrow

if anyone gets the rumored new update coming tonight/tomarrow, and takes it succesfully. make sure your rooted, and have adb setup, and access to a computer..then please pm me. thanks.
TO BE ABLE TO TAKE AN OTA. YOU CAN BE BOOTED. BUT YOU MUST:
have stock recovery...it can flashed with odin. see here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19760508
you must also have all bloatware. INTACT.and i suggest NOT FROZEN.
if you lose root .....you can easily re-root. with odin. by flashing cwm recovery.tar in doin......then booting to cwm recovery and flashing...the superuser.zip...see here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19223405
I forgot to get back to you a few days ago, sorry (I was busy, new kid on the way and working on the house like crazy). When I did get a chance to look at my phone, the update was gone.
I will see what I can do with this update, but I am not going to install it till everyone else has I need my phone too much to let ATT screw it up, I will however, try to get the download.

your last bullet (not have removed any CIQ) means anyone wanting to take update CANNOT have the UCLA3 rom/kernel/modem installed as well... correct? (ATT OTA, cd's, or yours since all of these have CIQ removed already). Do we need to be on a stock UCKJ2 like we did for last week's OTA to work... or will stock UCKK1 (your stock CWM KK1) accept update? If not, is there a UCKJ2 CWM rom/kernel zip package?

[Q] Going from ics leak back to GB?

I flashed ics a few days ago and have had very few problems and really enjoy it. However i have to GB because in the leak you can't connect to a wifi network that has uses the static ip connection type(rather than the default DHCP i think). This is a big problem. But any ways this should be as simple as restoring my backup via CWM right?
Thanks

That worked for me. I went between my ICS and GB backup quite a few times, starting the day that the leak came out.
I would also like to go back to GB.. just too many little things that are annoying the crap out of me.. PLUS Im randomly getting sleep of death..
Having said that, I used the nandroid restore file as I could not use the flash because I am on Rogers..
Is going back to a GB rom as simple as grabbing the rom and flashing it from cwm?
You should be able to restore fron your nandriod backup. You can even flash the proper radio back if needed.

Where is the pure stock 2.3.6 ROM? I can't seem to find it in the ROM section.
Battery consumption on the leaked ICS is just too much for me. Android System in the battery page is shown to be quite consuming. I am already using Titanium to freeze bloatware and also running SetCPU.
I believe there is a post in the dev section.

use darkside as a precaution, it will save u some heartache
I've done it about five times now. It's very easy IF you have a nandroid backup of your old GB or someone's backup. You can either use darkside wipes or DIY wipes and it will get you back to where you were prior to ICS-leak mania.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1548750
It is very easy, search the forums for Odin info (if needed) I've done it 3x so far with no kinks.
Edit: 4x and Darkside's wipe is a must have!

Hi all, just need a little clarification please. I`ve been searching the forums but so far, no luck.
I have a SGS2 from rogers and have recently flashed an ICS rom (I also flashed a new kernel and radio). I want to go back to stock gingerbread. I have a CWM backup that I made right after rooting the device.
That leaves me with a few questions:
Since the CWM backup won`t set my radio back to what it used to be, do I have to do it manually?
If I don't, will everything still work fine with the I727UCALC4 radio even if i`m on gingerbread.
Thank you in advance for the responses. I just don't want to miss any steps and end up with a paperweight!!
I'm in the same boat - I did manage to find the stock radio for the rogers i727r but I cannot find the stock i727r kernel. If anyone here knows if it is the same as the ATT version please let me know.
the files I have are ..
i727_stock_kernel_odin.tar < I believe this is the ATT stock kernel
Radio_RIL__I727RUXKJ7.zip < Rogers i727 radio
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
I also want to go back to GB. If I get the correct Tar file, and open Odin, then target the .tar file and click start, is that the correct process?
Nvm IM going to do it. If i hose it no biggy as this sunday I'll be getting a new phone anyways.

I've decided to go back to gb for now, all I did was got the fw from sammobile and used Odin to flash it back. Oh and since the fw was .zip file not .tar just unzipped it and load the file to Odin.
And also your sr will be unrooted

Why are you doing all that. I have gone back and forth between ics and gb many times. Just restore a gb nandroid. No problem. Took me back to my gb rom and modem.

Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me if I can run a gingerbread rom with an ICS radio (I727UCALC4)?? Does it matter? I thought that CWM just restored the original rom and kernel but did not modify the radio??? Thanks.

Phone did not upgrade to ICS properly

First of all I apologize if this has been brought up before in other posts. I am in a mixture of frustration and panic right now because I tried upgrading to ICS on my Rogers SGS2 LTE, and it failed.
Using Kies, I followed the prompts, and for whatever reason it didn't finish. Now when I boot up the phone, it keeps telling me to use the recovery mode option in Kies. However, if I do try to use recovery mode, it always times out and tells me I may need to contact a Samsung service center. The computer has no problem communicating with the phone, AFAIK.
Basically, I'm here to ask what options I have. Currently, i'm trying to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 , but because the stock TAR is taking a long time to download, I'm asking if I have any other options. I would like to keep the data on my phone, but if I have to wipe it to return it to normal I'm willing to do that.
Please help.
Reboot and try again

I had Superuser under my apps, if that helps.
I wish I could reply sooner but this board is making me wait 5 mins between posts. Sorry. It's like I'm in the emergency room with a gunshot wound and I'm waiting for the doctor to finish his smoke break, then his coffee break, then washroom break, jesus
by CWM, I think you're asking about Clockwordmod? If so, yes, I had that on my phone. Does this mean I can't use the steps in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 to fix my phone now? Or can I still proceed.
If you have superuser then most likely you are rooted and since you have clockworkmod especially then kies is not gonna update your phone. Your on Rodgers so you need to find the stock firmware and flash it. I'm on att or I could link you to one that would work. I got my stock firmware from Samsung website. Try going to sammobile and see if you can find the stock firmware for your phone. I'm sure since its Samsung they should have Rodgers firmware to. Download the stock firmware and flash it in Odin onto to your phone and then kies should work. If you can't find the stock firmware at sammobile then look for the stock firmware here on xda I'm sure someone on Rodgers has it....
Edit. The link up there to Odin back to stock should work. Just download the file and follow the steps in order and don't leave one out. There are no shortcuts when it comes to flashing a phone or it could be rendered useless for anything more than a paperweight. Konane is real good and would not lead anyone wrong....

Just flashed it via Kies, had to use ODIN by flashing stock, Odin wouldn't work till I rebooted my computer, then once Kies updated, I had had a error ( com.Android.phone stopped) but I cleared data and cache in 3e, then everything worked.

I just wanted to post a follow-up. I followed the steps from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 and it fixed me phone. Best of all, I didn't lose anything.
I would still like to get ICS on my phone. I noticed on Sammobile's site that there is a firmware for 4.04 that was released recently. Would I somehow be able to use that, combined with Odin, to get ICS on my phone? In other words, follow all the steps in the aforementioned thread, except, use this newer firmware file? Sorry I realize this may sound like a dumb noob question, but I want to make sure I do things right.
Thanks for all the help btw.

If you're back to stock and on Rogers, you should be able to update using Kies.
The thing is, when Odin fixed my phone, it didn't remove Superuser, so doesn't that mean my phone isn't stock anymore? I was expecting Odin to basically reset my phone back to factory settings, but it seems to have just reverted it back to before I tried updating to ICS with kies.

If you go into 3e or cwm if you still have it, you should be able to clear cache and data, so after that Kies should recognize it and start the download

I haven't used the stock 3e that much always just flash cwm but I would suggest that you do a factory data reset to from the recovery if 3e gives that option I've never used it so I'm not sure. But if you are still on cwm recovery kies will not ever update your phone until you put everything back stock. You must have just flashed the kernel only. Flashing just the kernel does not wipe anything you need to flash the stock firmware from sammobile in Odin and that will do a full wipe and restore everything to stock

Sorry but what is 3e? The only place i see cwm mentioned is under the rom manager app, but when i launch it rom manager says i don't have a rooted device and super user can't be found. Weird thing is i see super user as an app on my phone.

Turn the phone off. Hold both volume up and volume down and hold the power button do not release the volume buttons yet. Pressing all 3 buttons when you first see the screen come on mine shows an att logo then release the power button only. The phone will then boot into either 3e stock recovery or cwm recovery

OK, I did what you said, and I see 3e and the option to wipe data/factory reset. So you're recommending I do this BEFORE i try to use Odin and the latest firmware for Sammobile?
Just out of curiosity, if I didn't do a reset before flashing using Odin, what would happen?

Yes. And if you don't it might not wipe everything. I suggest you do it before you flash it and again after...

[Q] Help with upgrading from GB to ICS via Kies

So I had downloaded Kies and it was ready to upgrade my blaze to ICS, but I read that the phone should be unrooted first. So I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591601
Apparently that was a mistake. Now I get the following error in Kies:
"Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies" "Current firmware version: PDA:LB7 / PHONE:LF4 / CSC:LB7 (TMB)"
Should I have just upgraded without unrooting? Why is it telling me this? I thought this was the stock ROM? If I keep flashing me Blaze with different ROMs without completely reformatting, will that slow it down?
You gotta go back to the OG rom before the first update.... If u look there is a thread about it on here somewhere

I used this and now Kies is timing out trying to upgrade to ICS when it gets to the 100% downloading firmware part. Apparently reading the thread this tar isn't good for upgrading to ICS. But you did somehow?
Yup it took me a couple tries but it worked

that's a kies issue. lets face it, it sucks. but that's the only tar I've been able to find that puts it back to Samsung Official and allows you to upgrade via kies. If you dont trust the links I have, you can find the tar at sammobile.com but you'll have to register to download

[FIX] "Your device does not support software upgrading via kies" is fine and 100% working. I can personally confirm this ;]

I never understood why people choose to use Kies... I personally hate it. It is much faster and easier to do it the XDA way and root/CWM and then flash whatever rom you want. If you want I'll post the quicker way to do this. No one has hard bricked from this method and its quite simple.
Root your device (you already have I see)
Install CWM HERE. (make sure not to check re-partition)
Boot into CWM by holding Volume UP and Volume DOWN and pressing POWER. USB must be unplugged. (could take up to 20 seconds to load CWM)
Flash your new ICS modem HERE in CWM
Now you can install any ROM you wish. You can install the stock ICS rom or a modified ROM. It is best to always have CWM just in case something messes up you have options to fix. If you install through Kies you have to install CWM over again anyways. This is faster. Now to install a ROM, there is a common process that will help out....
To install a ROM:
Boot into CWM
Perform a factory/reset
Wipe cache
Wipe Dalvik cache (under advanced)
Install zip (ROM)
Reboot and let your phone sit for at least 5 minutes, 10 is preferred.
Newbie Guide for Modding
You can read the above link for a small rundown on CWM and its available options. If you are here on XDA you probably should have CWM.
I had unrooted my device before installing CWM and didn't see the part that says to root it before hand. I installed it, seems to work fine. Will I have any problems.
Also, I just learned you're instructions are missing a step, I have flash the actual ICS ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918608
Before the radio mod you listed. Other than that, thanks!
P.S. What do you mean by "modem"?
