Other Notes
Welcome to the "Other Notes" section. Here you will find other notes that are related to this ROM.
1. Ginger8 v1 is now discontinued and unavailable for download.
2. Reported issues with task bar over-notifying, will fix with v1.2. No fix as of right now.

Nice, wish my Shift still worked. Good to see somebody else jump in over here tho.:beer:

Wow this looks cool! I can't wait to get home and try it. Thanks for your work!
Edit: I'm wondering why you removed pico? I use the voice dialer a lot. Is there a different voice engine included?

Nice! Will definitely be trying this out, thanks for the CM7 base because some of us still need our 4G

Removed Pico because it was only accessibility. Voice dialer should not be affected.

Boy, the windows 8 launcher is going to take some getting used to. Its a lot different from Sense, Apex and the lot.

@OP
Would thank you more times if I could. Nice spin on things, more than most things we have around here

I'm glad you like it guys. Also, make sure to let me know what you see wrong and I will have a fix for it.

Hey guys, quick question for you. Would you guys be interested in a more look-a-like version of Ginger8 acting like a Windows 8 Phone or would you rather keep what you have now?

Well, it wouldn't hurt if you could possibly have one with just the W8 launcher and another that acts more like the windows 8, but up to you of course

Checking it out. So no email client built in...???

Okay will keep it in mind. In the next few weeks I will be pushing out another version. Thanks for the feedback.

If possible, having options for trace kb and/or compact qwerty would be nice as well. Nice work so far!

You could always d/l a keyboard from the market. Touchpal is a good, free one. Also, here is a flashable zip for the swype KB that comes with the stock gb shift rom. It worked in cm 7.2 whenn I was running it. Since this is cm 7 based, it may work too.

<3 Rings Digital Weather Clock

I like showing the moonphase at the bottom of the calendar/clock ring.
I also like the Android Pro Widgets suite. It allows me to do some things in GB that are JB-like features.

[ROM][2.3.7] LeWa OS (23 MAY 2012)

This rom is based on the Chinese "LeWa" OS for C8650. My modifications are listed below.
All credit goes to Le Frog Technology for the LeWa OS.
http://www.lewaos.com/
LeWa apparently updates every Friday. I'll try to frequently update.

Check out the website to see more: LeWa OS website
Details:
This OS is awesome... It includes data monitoring, power savings, custom and downloadable themes and lockscreens, notifications on the lockscreen, lockscreen animations, pop-up SMS notification window showing the text with the reply box, etc.
Modifications:
Updated kernel to 2.6.35.14 (thanks to jaybob413 for his kernel work)
Edited build.prop to remove unnecessary info and align it with current CM build.prop
Added eri.xml to /data for Sprint
Replaced keyboard with ICS keyboard (matches the theme perfectly)
Added gapps (flashing gapps separately was causing fc)
Working:
Almost everything
Issues:
Music apk fc
Locations for weather are still Chinese (Should be able to fix this. Uses weather.com.cn API)
This OS has been associated with a "privacy issue." LeWa uses Umeng (Umeng.com), which is apparently like Google Analytics (Dolphin browser uses Umeng).
I added umeng to the hosts file, which blocks it from communicating. Privacy fixed.

Lewa Changelog
If you install this version, you will be notified of the next update through the goo-inside.me app
PLEASE READ THE SECOND POST.
All credit goes to the Heroc developers who got the Hero to where it is today.
I think we've got all the Chinese roms covered now
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for anything.... at all.
Please read!
Go to Settings > Phone > Keypad > Volume keys wake up ON. Otherwise you won't be able to wake the phone. LeWa changed something and it's affecting all the other ports, too.
I added "Spare Parts" so the end button will put the phone to sleep. You need to go to: End button behavior > Go to sleep
To access the app drawer... slide the tray up.
Under the messaging app, go to Message settings > SMS realtime note. This will give you IMO an awesome window popup with the new text and a place to reply without having to close the app you're in.
Themes:
Go to the themes app, or Settings > Themes and swipe to the right to download themes.
MDPI Lockscreen themes that work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428940
Put .mtz file on sdcard in: "/sdcard/MIUI/theme"
Status Bar:
The top of the notification pull down is the data monitor. You can go under settings and set your monthly limit and a reminder if so desired.
The button on the top right corner will free memory.
You can slide the toggles at the bottom of the pulldown left and right for more.
Tap on the status bar and it will bring up an apps, home, and back button at the top.
If you find any LeWa themes or lockscreens online, please let me know!!!

Damnit...I just NOW flashed beta1...and you go and update. Slow down..lol
Edit: OK, flashing over with update, but i cannot find the setting to enable end button to lock the screen, it is a pain to have to drag down the notification bar to lock....any insight? So far, looks pretty comparable to DX OS...nice work! Cant wait to get it all setup!

This is an ongoing developer project to make way for a modification that will entirely transform your device, but retain the aesthetics and the experience of your phone. I know you've seen tablet mode roms before, they change two lines in your build.prop file which you could easily edit yourself in seconds and maybe throw a keyboard in there to make it work better. It's a start, but this ain't enough. This thing has potential, but it is wasted the moment you try to stuff a full blown tablet into your poor phone. Yet we all know our high res phones can very well handle more than silly 1-column layouts. So the magic must be in between somewhere, a place that Google must have overlooked and left blank. Yes, this rom strives to drop your device into tablet mode, but it won't stop there, it will reshape and redefine ICS to make it all a usefull addition and not just a cute novelty. we're calling it: Hybrid Mode, best of both worlds.*

OK guys here's a modified build.prop with some cool tweaks:
•First at all you must flash the Paranoid rom
•Then download the modified build.prop and pass it to the sdcard
•Next download a file explorer ( I prefer ES file explorer), put in settings then check if root explorer and mount file system is check
•Then copy the build.prop to system and then it will ask to replaced the other build.prop say yes
• And finally reboot to recovery and wipe cache, fix permissions and reboot
•Enjoy your rom
Link dropped by myself lol
UPDATE: more fun and fun coming out
So what does my build.prop has:
Slightly better battery
Better video and Audio
More performance (without having to sacrifice battery life)
Faster EDGE and 3G reception ( EDGE it seems to be faster and 3G too I really don't know 4G so tell me)
It doesn't heat what I have seen
Feel free to say me bugs or errors

In tablet mode is there way to get the notification bar/navigation bar to float on top of the screen like in phone mode versus the bottom?
Also when I select a contact to call I get an error com.android.phone has stopped but I can continue the call. But I dont get the call in progress or anything
Found a temporary fix. Under Settings> Configuration> Change to Table Mode Optimized (reboot) so when making a call the com.android.phone does not crash.

Thanks a million. you gave us the latest and with themes . Downloading and can't wait to load and try
Edited
So far so good. Installation went well and looks good. Where do I find themes you have included our what do I need to do see under themes.
Does the MMS fix found here work with the latest version of this ROM? I tried testing it out yesterday with some 2.7.*.* build and it took a really long time to send and then a while later I got a text from 99999999 with a whole bunch of symbols, which I heard is the cause of SMS Split not being enabled but I couldn't find the setting for that under the messenger app.

they may not install correctly (i may have forgotten to add the script)
pull them out of the zip file (/data/system/theme)
dump them into /sdcard/miui/theme
(or just put them on the sdcard and import them one at a time if you arent using root explorer)

Thanks. Another question, do we still need to flash 2.3.23 first and then the new 2.8.10? Or can we install this new version with no hassle? ORRRR do we have to first flash 2.3.23, then 2.7.27, THEN 2.8.10? Haha.
The original post only lists installation directions for 2.7.27 so just making sure on how to install this correctly.

OK, found themes in your zip files and moved to miui/theme. I do not see the one you have posted screens of, which one is it.?
Only thing I noticed is memory usage seems high, always in 468 to 478 in red.
This is from OP "Now with moar Weather widget (look for sexy weather lockscreen in here)" where?
Thanks again for great work and keeping us up to date.:highfive:

According to the "OP" if you are not in 2.7.27 then first flash 2.3.23 boot up, establish internet connection, then flash 2.8.10. If on 2.7.27 then simply flash 2.8.10

I also noticed high ram usage, so i had to use supercharger option 6. Also single signal bar isn't working. Photos attached..

DO NOT DOWNLOAD[ROM] [Coby MID1042] ▶Alien Droid◀ [11.18.12]

Hey guys! I origionaly made this ROM for The Kindle Fire and I decided to port it over to the Coby MID1042. This ROM is based off stock firmware but it has many GUI additions.Lets get into it!!!
DOWNLOAD>>>>
DO NOT DL UNLESS YOU ARE TRYING TO FIX THE WIFI PROBLEM.
CURRENT BUILD:
V 2.0 11.30.12 download here
OLD BUILDS:
V 1.0 11.18.12 download here
STOCK ROM FIRMWARE:
download here
DESCRIPTION>>>>
This ROM is made for people who love customization, It has an advanced theme chooser, battery icon changer, WiFi icon changer, and a soft key style picker. All these options will be in the app I developed called "GUI Settings". More GUI settings are to come in later builds. In addition to all that it has lots of other tweaks including add blocking.
FEATURES>>>>
These are just some of the features of this ROM:
*alien shop: download free themes and mods and apply them directly from the app
*custom theme switcher app made from scratch by me (app is called GUI Settings)
*battery icon changer
*soft key changer
*WiFi icon changer
*custom boot animation (made by hyperrunner)
*gapps are preinstalled
*custom default wallpaper
*add blocking
*root file manager
*some bloat removed
*added zip and zipalign binary (used by my app)
*added updated wget binary
*added cp binary because for some wered reason it did not come with it
*disguised as Galaxy Nexus for more apps to choose from app store
*rooted
HOW TO INSTALL>>>>
You will need CWM recovery. If you do not have CWM recovery then follow this guide and make a backup!
(1)download ROM form computer of directly from tablet and transfer to built in sdcard
(2).reboot into recovery by typing "reboot-recovery" from terminal emulator/adb shell or by holding down the silver button and power button
(3).go into "install zip from sdcard">"choose zip from sdcard">then select the ROM to install
(4).once it is done then reboot and it should take about 30 sec to a min to boot into ROM.
DISCLAIMER & BUGS>>>>
I am not responsible for a bricked device but I will surely help If something goes wrong. The only bug that I have noticed is that after installing a theme, sometimes the screen acts abnormally by rotating randomly until you reboot.
THANKS>>>>
Coby for providing base
people around the internet i grabbed some graphics from,
tobiascuypers and josepho1997 from xda for some icons,

Ok. Thanks for the input.
Hi, just installed the transparent status bar, and didn't worked. I know that is a beta version, also when i boot, in the start animation it appears a little of the background. Besides that... great job.

nice rom PowerPoint. I'm running v2 ATM, but v1 is actually running a little smoother.. stock browser and overall system is lagging badly for me on v2.. been playing with supercharger scripts and manually editing build.prop and have had some some good results on pepping this rom up... hope you're gonnna keep at this project. the stock firmware is attrocious on mid1042.. I would be able to test for you quite often if needed and am quite proficient in the os,.. Good work PowerPoint..
I can't turn off my wifi after flashing this
This is a great ROM, thank you really much! I had a lot of problems with the stock one, but this one is working just fine.
Two more things - how exactly do i change the status bar to transparent? And how to replace that "black wood" background with something else?

Is it possible to change emulation from Nexus to something.. less powerful? Because some games i trying to play sets its graphics to a maximum level, and it lags really bad.

Just wanted to remind you of a work around for that pesky menu key. For the time being, all you have to do is to go to "Settings". Select "System" & then at the bottom choose "Hardware Keys". Add to the Home Key the long press option of the "menu key".
THIS POST NO LONGER VALID. THE FLASHABLE FIX IS IN THE OP.

It's one of the more unique in appearance that I've run into. Never seen a single one of the available themes & the original developer said there are SEVERAL more coming too.
I'm happy you're enjoying it Joe. (now if we could just get more out of the battery, JB will be all set!)
Re: [ROM][JB] [4.1.2] Avatar ROM for HTC One S (Ville) DS Port (2/20/13)*Team S.W.a.R
Battery life is pretty good for me, I'm getting between 10 and 12 hours with my anker batteries ( I have 2 so always have a charged to swap out) with about 2.5 hours screen time with WiFi and Bluetooth constantly on.
This has been my experience on all the JB ROMS I've tried.
We will see where this one takes me now that you guys have it 100% ( in my opinion/ for my taste!), I will let you know more tomorrow after a full charge and a days usage.
Again, thank you all!
Joe

wow (jawdrop) anker are pretty good just dont overcharge it (my mistake) btw awesome job on the rom
The camera gallery previews still froze up the first time, but after reboot it looks like it's working right. the front facing camera works!
Is this the first JB rom with working front facing camera?
Is this the least buggy JB rom?
Thanks!
nope all other jb roms in the latest forums front cameras work
hrmph well this ROM is still great despite the even playing field
Hey guys. Nice ROM. I really like that default portfolio theme with the leather belt lock screen. Unfortunately, I am unable to use the touchscreen now. I flashed the ROM, waited, flashed the apps and the fix, waited some more. Then, I started using the phone with full functionality for all of three minutes before the touchscreen stopped responding. I have rebooted several times now but that doesn't help. I saw some fixes that involve resetting factory defaults or some such, but I am unable to get past the lockscreen. I also read somewhere about resetting the proximity sensor, but that was another phone and an ICS ROM. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
