This rom is based on the Chinese "LeWa" OS for C8650. My modifications are listed below.

LeWa apparently updates every Friday. I'll try to frequently update.

Details:
This OS is awesome... It includes data monitoring, power savings, custom and downloadable themes and lockscreens, notifications on the lockscreen, lockscreen animations, pop-up SMS notification window showing the text with the reply box, etc.
Modifications:
Updated kernel to 2.6.35.14 (thanks to jaybob413 for his kernel work)
Edited build.prop to remove unnecessary info and align it with current CM build.prop
Added eri.xml to /data for Sprint
Replaced keyboard with ICS keyboard (matches the theme perfectly)
Added gapps (flashing gapps separately was causing fc)
Working:
Almost everything
Issues:
Music apk fc
Locations for weather are still Chinese (Should be able to fix this. Uses weather.com.cn API)
This OS has been associated with a "privacy issue." LeWa uses Umeng (Umeng.com), which is apparently like Google Analytics (Dolphin browser uses Umeng).
I added umeng to the hosts file, which blocks it from communicating. Privacy fixed.

Lewa Changelog
If you install this version, you will be notified of the next update through the goo-inside.me app
PLEASE READ THE SECOND POST.
All credit goes to the Heroc developers who got the Hero to where it is today.
I think we've got all the Chinese roms covered now
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for anything.... at all.
Please read!
Go to Settings > Phone > Keypad > Volume keys wake up ON. Otherwise you won't be able to wake the phone. LeWa changed something and it's affecting all the other ports, too.
I added "Spare Parts" so the end button will put the phone to sleep. You need to go to: End button behavior > Go to sleep
To access the app drawer... slide the tray up.
Under the messaging app, go to Message settings > SMS realtime note. This will give you IMO an awesome window popup with the new text and a place to reply without having to close the app you're in.
Themes:
Go to the themes app, or Settings > Themes and swipe to the right to download themes.
MDPI Lockscreen themes that work: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428940
Put .mtz file on sdcard in: "/sdcard/MIUI/theme"
Status Bar:
The top of the notification pull down is the data monitor. You can go under settings and set your monthly limit and a reminder if so desired.
The button on the top right corner will free memory.
You can slide the toggles at the bottom of the pulldown left and right for more.
Tap on the status bar and it will bring up an apps, home, and back button at the top.

That's odd... i've flashed this 23,409 times on two phones and haven't seen that. Did you flash over something?
Damnit...I just NOW flashed beta1...and you go and update. Slow down..lol
Edit: OK, flashing over with update, but i cannot find the setting to enable end button to lock the screen, it is a pain to have to drag down the notification bar to lock....any insight? So far, looks pretty comparable to DX OS...nice work! Cant wait to get it all setup!

# dialled after any no. is not working....plz fix this.....and rom is so smooth........thanks.....
Review
Hi,
First off, thanks for this awesome ROM. I understand this is a port but awesome work nonetheless!
My review after 2 days of use:
This seems to be flawless for me.. almost. Just a couple of minor problems. Please solve these and It'll be even better:
Like posted previously, int the dialer "#" seems to have a special meaning. I guess it loads contacts from sim card. For example, pressing 1# gives types in "111" for me.
Also, this makes it impossible to send USSD requests(check balance etc). typing in *141# actually dials *141. Actually, # and anything after that is ignored. I think its a dialer issue, I'll check with other 3rd party dialers once I get home.
The Vertical line on the dialer buttons. Is it intended? Its even on the screenies you posted. Seems to be out of place. Another reason the change the dialer.
It seems the font size in messages etc is a tad bit too big. This is a problem in certain cases. For example, if I try to message a particular contact with multiple numbers, the screen is already filled with the contact photo, the number selection drop-down, and the keyboard. I can't see what I'm typing. I had to disable the keyboard recommendation to get that bit of space to see atleast one line of what I'm typing.
In Language & Input Settings->User dictionary, the words are white on a whitish background. The background becomes dark while scrolling and words appear fine, but otherwise they're not easily readable.
I hope you can look into these and maybe we can get some workarounds atleast.
Great ROM
can you give me the link of the port.
the original HTC wildfire lewa rom.
I am searching for it but couldnt find it
thanx in advance

Think I figured this out... its not using the 'notification ringtone' under the sound and vibration tab, its using the option under application\messaging.. set notifications to ON and pick a tone under settings.
This rom is awesome... think I like it more than MIUI!
Anyone notice a way to change the toggles around like on MIUI? Haven't run into that...

Just checking.. but have you had a text arrive to test it? Just noticed that the ringtone shows that its changed to silent after you close and reopen settings, but even though it says that it actually still rings with the tone I chose...
I never downloaded a lockscreen theme or anything if u go to lockscreen in system setting it gives you a option to change the theme of the lockscreen and I changed it to ring and as soon as I did that it rebooted the phone and it started boot looping I had to pull the battery and I had to go Into recovery and wipe.... sorry if I called that a bug but that's something that needs to be fixed just letting you know

So far so good. Installation went well and looks good. Where do I find themes you have included our what do I need to do see under themes.
Does the MMS fix found here work with the latest version of this ROM? I tried testing it out yesterday with some 2.7.*.* build and it took a really long time to send and then a while later I got a text from 99999999 with a whole bunch of symbols, which I heard is the cause of SMS Split not being enabled but I couldn't find the setting for that under the messenger app.

they may not install correctly (i may have forgotten to add the script)
pull them out of the zip file (/data/system/theme)
dump them into /sdcard/miui/theme
(or just put them on the sdcard and import them one at a time if you arent using root explorer)

Thanks. Another question, do we still need to flash 2.3.23 first and then the new 2.8.10? Or can we install this new version with no hassle? ORRRR do we have to first flash 2.3.23, then 2.7.27, THEN 2.8.10? Haha.
The original post only lists installation directions for 2.7.27 so just making sure on how to install this correctly.

OK, found themes in your zip files and moved to miui/theme. I do not see the one you have posted screens of, which one is it.?
Only thing I noticed is memory usage seems high, always in 468 to 478 in red.
This is from OP "Now with moar Weather widget (look for sexy weather lockscreen in here)" where?
Thanks again for great work and keeping us up to date.:highfive:

According to the "OP" if you are not in 2.7.27 then first flash 2.3.23 boot up, establish internet connection, then flash 2.8.10. If on 2.7.27 then simply flash 2.8.10

man, i'm using this mod now, it's very good... i'm not complaining but would be nice have a alternative (the back button kills task in CM)
the reboot button on status bar is useful, but it's better in on/off menu...

That was very hard n difficult
I've added PhoneWindowManager$10, 11, & 12.smali, heavily edited PhoneWindowManager.smali (in android.policy), edited DevelopmentSettings.smali & development_prefs.xml (in settings.apk) and added a string to framework-res to show a message box after killing an app
I dont think its something a normal user can do but if u compare my the files with yours, u may find the difference

Ok, let me try to explain
open development_prefs.xml
"no resource found that matches the given name summary with value @string/kill_app_longpress_back_summary"
you have just added this
<CheckBoxPreference android:title="@string/kill_app_longpress_back" android:key="kill_app_longpress_back" android:summary="@string/kill_app_longpress_back_summary" />
"android:title" is the title of that option (where u can turn it off/on)
and in the title theres written "@string/kill_app_longpress_back"
that way u tell the xml that it can find the title of that option in strings.xml
so you need to open strings.xml and add:
<string name="kill_app_longpress_back">Stop apps via long-press</string>
"android:summary " is the desciption of that option
theres written "@string/kill_app_longpress_back_summary" />
do the same create a string in strings.xml like this
<string name="kill_app_longpress_back_summary">Long-pressing the BACK button will kill the foreground application</string>
"android:key" (im not sure about this!) is the codename used in smali files (in this case DevelopmentSettings.smali"
theres written kill_app_longpress_back
example (in DevelopmentSettings.smali)
const-string v0, "kill_app_longpress_back"

1. Ginger8 v1 is now discontinued and unavailable for download.
2. Reported issues with task bar over-notifying, will fix with v1.2. No fix as of right now.
Nice, wish my Shift still worked. Good to see somebody else jump in over here tho.:beer:
Wow this looks cool! I can't wait to get home and try it. Thanks for your work!
Edit: I'm wondering why you removed pico? I use the voice dialer a lot. Is there a different voice engine included?
Nice! Will definitely be trying this out, thanks for the CM7 base because some of us still need our 4G
Removed Pico because it was only accessibility. Voice dialer should not be affected.

Hey guys, quick question for you. Would you guys be interested in a more look-a-like version of Ginger8 acting like a Windows 8 Phone or would you rather keep what you have now?

Well, it wouldn't hurt if you could possibly have one with just the W8 launcher and another that acts more like the windows 8, but up to you of course
Checking it out. So no email client built in...???
Okay will keep it in mind. In the next few weeks I will be pushing out another version. Thanks for the feedback.

You could always d/l a keyboard from the market. Touchpal is a good, free one. Also, here is a flashable zip for the swype KB that comes with the stock gb shift rom. It worked in cm 7.2 whenn I was running it. Since this is cm 7 based, it may work too.

I also like the Android Pro Widgets suite. It allows me to do some things in GB that are JB-like features.
