Well, you did. We didn't. Thanks for condensing.
Nope. The Galaxy S4 is a huge flagship sale, so for every one developer that goes public about not supporting it, I'm sure there's 5 more who will be happy to take their place. I like quality, open source software support like anyone else, and it's always good to have solid developers around. But, there's nothing that I've seen in AOSP development that is so important that it would be worth giving up all the features of the S4 and going with the HTC One. And like I said, just because some developers move away from Samsung doesn't mean there won't be development.

Some HTC devs probably will bump into him, while walking the opposite direction towards Samsung in frustration over HTC

Couple of things bother me about this vid.
1. He suspects the supplier issue HTC is having is because of Samsung parts. There was a report the shortage was due to their ultrapixel camera.
Didn't this come out of HTC R&D? Not completely sure if this is supplied by Samsung. He would have no way to check it unless he took the phone apart and then he would be SOL putting it back together.
2. Samsung being investigated, while HTC and other companies does the same if you go to review/comment sites (e.g. gsmarena) section using bots or spammers.
3.He has a dead pixel, not a big issue. Um, many people would return their phones for a dead pixel or inconsistent unibody build.
Just thought it was interesting that it is heavily promoted on the website.

For anyone interested it's a good read. Galaxy S users are pressuring Samsung USA on virtually every post Samsung has made on the lack of the 2.2 update. I doubt it will have any affect but it does shed light on the plight of the Galaxy S owners and with hundreds being posted somebody will respond sooner or later somewhere whether Samsung or AT&T.
Haha, I especially enjoyed this comment:
I was going to check it out on my Captivate, but it's turned itself off again. Maybe when it gets through rebooting.

Haha I've been one of the people posting over at Samsung USA for the last few weeks. I try to go ever there and post a comment or an article every so often. It's been good to see more and more people doing the same. Don't know if it'll do any good or not, but at least it's cathartic and it spreads the word. Glad to see some people have taken notice.
If the word gets out, it will do damage to brand reputation. And everything is about advertising.

I was up for renewal in Aug. I asked the same questions you did. I am on US verizon. I kept looking at "Galaxy Nexus Coming soon" for months. Dare I say, I was about to go for an iphone. Looking back I'm glad I held out, but I agree, roadmaps with timelines for milestone releases would be nice. I have to do it in my business.
Thanks for that. I ended up going with yhe S2 as i think i value storage over the layest updates.
I did actually make a timeline with contract lengths & update schedules in the end and that clinched it!

I asked everyone in all 5 of the stores about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note LTE, noone even knew about it as if it will be coming out 6 years from now -.- noone knew there was one even coming out let alone the name :/ it kind of makes me sad when the consumer knows more then the sales reps. They should train more in my opinion this was just my little experiance for the day just thought I'd share. Anyone else looking forward to the note lte for att?

Nobody in a provider store is going to have even a small clue about phones they don't already stock, this should not be a shock. And if you're on xda you're a bit above the typical consumer...

In-store reps definitely don't know anything. Most reps aren't like us and simply don't care. I usually come across some reps who give out good information about upcoming devices. These reps are always over the phone as they have quick access to the database. Try calling about a general question, talk to them for a bit, and when you're about to end the conversation, pop the question.

Ive sold phones for five years in three locations. I can tell you most of us know about phones as soon as they are rumors. As someone said earlier if we don't sell it we really don't care. To be honest if someone asked me about the note I would kinda just try to end it fast unless we were doing pre orders as asking me about a phone I cant sell isn't making me commission. If it is slow though I will talk about announced upcoming phones for quite awhile. Also most consumers walk in and say i want android or iphone not asking specifics

That's understandable. Wouldn't it be better to actually care and inform a consumer of an upcoming device? By informing them of said device, they might wait for it and pay the $200 with the contract. I understand you want to make some money as well but I guess from a personal standpoint I would help the person that cares as much as I do.

They know me there and come at me quick because I don't just come in to buy a cheap pantech crossover I'm there with cash in hand and buy phones straight up xD so they are always willing to help. When I went in to buy my Sony xperia play 4g I handed her my iPhone to Bluetooth my contacts, she looked at my iPhone and her exact words were "what the F is this" it was running wp7 xD Haha but in all seriousness I think someone should be hired in the certain area. It'd be like hiring me to sell cars or ovens when I know nothing about them, I feel like they just hire anyone :/ I went to buy a computer once and the worker argued for 30 minutes that 512mb was a gigabyte :/ I shook my head and took my business elsewhere I just don't understand... sometimes I wish everyone cared about a phone as much as we do... instead of "as long as I can listen to music watch YouTube and look at porn, I don't care what it looks like or what it does" :'( I honestly just want to teach everyone for free so I don't feel so smart and dumb at the same time. anyone else feel that way?

I agree. I've perused tablets in Best Buy and after engaging the nearest 'team member' for less than 3 minutes, I realize that I know more than they do.
It's the same experience when going to the auto parts store. There are some people who can carry on informed conversation, but 90% are the type who watch fast & furious movies in awe, and know nothing about repair or maintenance or they can only look up part numbers.
Basically, lower your expectations.
This is why I get mad when I've tried many times to get a job in those kind of places to no avail because I don't seem to have any big time qualifications to my record yet if I go into any outlet store and begin talking about phones, the sales rep looks at me like I'm making up things or shocked I know anything.

I have had similar experience with applying for jobs at auto parts stores. The 'now hiring' sign is displayed for several months and the staff changes about every 3 weeks, but I never get called. For a while there was an older woman who not only knew nothing about cars but she also needed help to use the computer program to look up parts.
I finally realized that these people will work for less money than I will because I actually know what I am doing. It really is sad that people with any level of technical or mechanical ability don't actually work at the retail level because they can't get enough money.
And don't get me started on the people who work at Home Depot . .
I have no past work experiance. I'm 19 years old have been the "bad" kid because I used to be a "black magic" hacker I've gotten introuble from schools best buys and targets because of it but now I'm past all that I do phones tablets anything mobile. There is never a time when I'm in best buy that I'm back in the computer/phone area and usually an older citizen is talking to a sales Rep about which one is better and the sales Rep says well product A is $1299 with 4gb ram touchscreen is way better then product B $899 8gb ram and so on but they go by the price as the sales Rep was walking her to the register I kindly walked up and said "hello ma'am I noticed you were interested in two different so-so" the sales Rep called the manager and had me kicked out for costing him the sale xD but they wont hire me? I have long hair and look like a "druggie" I don't do drugs don't have tattoos or metal on my body but yet they hire people who are clueless

I don't mean to overstep the rules of polite conversation but you may wish to think about your image. It isn't fair that we judge based on looks, but it happens.
*Edit - When I say looks I also means assumptions that people will make of others based on their prejudices. -*End Edit
Most recently, I applied for a job repairing projectors. During the interview they kept asking me about how well I would transition to an office environment. Completely Ridiculous! I would be working in the workshop not the office and I happened to be better dressed than any of my interviewers.
Basically, some people cannot see past their little world or people they can understand.
Man Verizon store by me they don't know anything. And they are jerks as well. Went to upgrade my moms phone and said she wouldn't get unlimited data with her Droid 3 so I just bought it from newegg called up and boom she got her unlimited data. I think HTC are beginning to get worried about the negative press over the One series.
Had a call from HTC customer service today in response to a survey I filled in recently.
Basically I slated them and their response to my support call.
I asked them a specific question about their new Bluetooth audio dongle and they gave me some crap generic response about how not all phones have the same Bluetooth functionality (my request had nothing to do with phones merely the specification of the dongle).
Anyway I didn't pick up because the number was 'unknown' but they left a very detailed message and seemed very keen to get a resolution (apparently ;-)).

What do you guys do for a living? No company intentionally does things that aren't in the best interest of their customers. Big multi-billion dollar (pound, euro) companies can't turn on a dime. At least in the U.S., my experience with HTC so far has been light years better than Samsung. The fact that HTC sent you a survey (which they pay for) means they do care about what their customers think. And I guarantee you whatever their response is it in no way has anything to do with the *****ing taking place on XDA.

If you got time, I'd call back and actually tell them what you didn't like and how they should've handled it.
The fact is that companies like HTC pay these survey companies to study these things, collect customer feedback so that later on HTC can process it and work on improving their image/products.
How efficient that is - that's another debate. But I really think you need to use this opportunity to make your voice heard.

Like a phone company has never promised an update for a phone and then balked / not come through? Oh no, wait, it happens all the time.
Not trying to even say they lied to you, per se, it's just easy for them to say "sure, we have plans to do it" and never get around to it. These rumor threads are silly because there's no time frame or accountability.

I think you're getting excited for nothing, There's a petition and many of us I'm sure, are willing to boycott HTC should they decide not to update. These manufacturers have to be taught. No point in crying and getting all butthurt about it. If they decide not to update, we teach them by not buying anymore HTC products. That's just my 2c
And please don't say things like "To shut you up" I have the right to free speech just like you.
I'm not crying nor butthurt. Quite the opposite - I actually don't care if HTC updates or not. It'd be nice, but I'm not losing sleep on it (or writing petitions....). I just think these threads about unsubstantiated rumors are silly is all. If it's gonna come, they'll announce a release date; if they don't, no point in getting people excited / upset over nothing. It's completely empty filler.

lol no need to apologize, as I said earlier, we all have a right to free speech!
Hopefully you will join in my boycott of HTC if they don't release updates. The more we are, the more likely they will learn!
This thread is akin to a call of duty mw3 lobby where there's always atleast 1 smack talker.

Last I heard One X was getting the update September/October with XL to follow shortly after that making it October/November.
One S would have followed that with Nov/Dec/Jan which pushes it outside HTC's 18month rule which is probably why they decided they wont be updating it.

Actually, the S4 version of the One S IS getting the update, it's only the S3 version that isn't.
