HELP p.s. i dont know where to put this - General Questions and Answers

hi i am sorry if this doesnt belong here but i dont know where to put it. i am an amateur when it comes to android and i need some help. my father bought me a diablotek d2 internet tablet and i wanted to be able to root it because i like the freedom. can someone give me a quick thing to do it with because i cant do it with adb i dont know how to use it and i cant get computers to register it in known hardware. please help.

Google or YouTube are good places to start, generally start there before trying XDA

ha i may be new to android but im not stupid to computers. dont you think i tried that. i cant find a simple enough thing that works for my tablet adb is too complicated and thats what they all say to use but it doesnt detect my device like it says it should. the simplest one i found craps out on the 4th step of six where i need to manually install drivers. but thanks for the quick reply. my father was actually the one who recommended that i come here because none of us could figure it out.

Transferring photo's to your computer

Wirelessly. What is the fastest way folks have figured out how to do this short of removing the memory card and putting it into your PC?
Tried dropbox....SLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOW
Trying Google Docs Uploading now... SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW
Tried Sugarsync... SLOOOOOW
Tried emailing ....... Attachments too large....
Seems like Android still hasn't figured out a fast efficient way to get photo's from the phone to your desktop...
sucks.
Plug your phone into your computer and select mass storage on your phone. Then access your phone on your computer and your photos from your camera should be in the DCIM folder.
Try to Google your question and you will find many pages that will help with your problem.

I also use Google + to upload all of my photos to Picasa automatically as they are taken.

Sherlock...
I said WIRELESSLY...
thanks anyway.
I also said FASTEST....
Also Google+ limits you to 8 pics...
Also..tried Picassa too... SLOOOOOOOOW
The problem here is that despite having 4G on this thing...photo transfer wirelessly is still obscenely slow.
Selected 10 pics from my gallery to upload to Google Docs at 10:45am......over an hour later and it's just now finishing the 5th photo...

You did not say wirelessly originally . You should GTFO if you can't be friendly to people who try and help you with questions that you should be searching for on your own anyway.

Had you left the "you should try Google first" out of your reply, I would have considered it a fairly friendly/helpful response.
That extra line that you added was unnecessarily snarky. And if you'd bothered to check my history here, you'd have realized i'm no simpleton to how things operate on XDA.

This part of your post indicated to me that you were under the impression that there was no way to transfer photos in a fast way in the Android OS. I was pointing out that there is a fast way to do this and that search would help. You also mentioned pulling your SD card out; you should almost never need to do this...

Carrying around a wire to tether to your PC is in no way efficient. Arguably fast...but definitely not efficient. My statement stands.

No worries. Same here.
I just get testy with a lot of the "search first" or "google it" replies when a question is asked is all.
Ultimately a healthy message board does require a good dose of civility, and I gotta remember that it's best to respond in a civil manner even if I perceive something to not be civil. My bad.

I've downloaded now I have to figure out how to use it. I don't know much....actually i don't know anything about FTP servers etc....looks like I have some reading to do.
Would you happen to know how to use this app? I've tried entering the server address into my browser (Chrome) but it's not working, won't connect. I'm on my work computer and created the FTP serve over 3G.

[Q] VNC problem.

Hey guys, i've been having this problem, this is how my phone looks when I see it on my computer through vnc.. It doesnt matter what vnc client I try.
Does somebody know something related to this issue?
Thank's in advanced!
Have you tried rebooting your phone?
But seriously, try messing with the VNC connection settings on your computer.

I've tried that already, no good news
Well I'm still having this problem, the only thing I havn't tried is to "put my phone back to the way it was when I bought it" Pretty sure theres a better way of saying that but my english is pretty sloppy today :3.
So if someone spares a few minutes and can explain me how to do that in a way that after that I can install all the apps I had with their configuration and SD files for the ones that have files on the SD card.

What do you mean by "broken?" Do you mean that you can only use the USB connector for charging?
No, it's broken it won't charge or connect to the computer it was broken when I bought it if I play with the cord it says it's charging icon pops up but you can see it drop while it's plugged in that tells me that it's broken i may get it fixed one day but until then I just mess around with it its still a decent phone to play with + I don't have my computer either its in the shop being repaired.

There is no way that I know of to root without a USB connection. Sorry man. I bet you could have a decent repair shop replace it for under 50 bucks though.
I was reading an found you could root froyo can't find the link though in xda app supposedly you modify recovery and flash kernel for froyo but I can't figure it out does any know what I'm asking hope I'm making sense

Wifi tether? (solved)

I'm having trouble using Wifi tether. When ever I try to connect I get an error that says "WTF!! Your phone is automatically shutting off the connection" lol it was pretty funny first time I saw it. The wifi tether signal still shows up on the devices I connect to but they don't register it. Is there any work around or fix? I used the roms codename and beam for this btw.

Lol I was taught that there are 3 types of people in this world....
1-that are suck ups.
2-those who like being sucked up to.
3-those like me that can't stand either one.
Im not supposed to wifi tether my device according to my new no cap contract so if that's important to you make sure you are aware of that when it comes time to renew or upgrade
I wouldn't say you guys are hated and or have alot of enemies.
Your merely misunderstood, and it doesn't help when there are the few with forked tongues that twist and manipulate what you say.
I see you two have some valid issues most of the time, but its hard to make your points when you are dealing with a mass amount of people that aren't educated enough to see them.

Going back to gb solved the prob for me oh how i missed this battery life. (btw bh the best guide to go back to gb from ics is fbs old kd1 guide using odin. Super easy and takes just a few mins. yea but before that you need to set up command prompts and downloading a jig file program with it and some other stuff. with odin there's no need to use command prompts, you just download the tar pit and csc files and flash away. Practically unbrickable even if you take the usb during an odin transfer. I'm not saying one click doesn't work but I think it throws people off

lol I think you're right..let me rephrase then. I view Odin just another option to root, flash, and unbrick your device. Why not include it as an option, I don't think it's obsolete just yet.
i see we r making headway here.
How much stuff do ya really need on your comp other than a simple one click odin program that will do what's needed without having to go look up another and so on just to get rooted stock....I've had issues with installing Java...my comp doesn't seem to like it or I don't seem to know what I'm doing with it....either way gremlin remover is one simple easy dl and 1 simple click that takes less than about 3 minutes to do whats needed

Rooting destroyed my two Macbooks

So I rooted and flashed Roms on a macbook by connecting my N5 via USB. Now my first macbooks data is corrupted. I thought this might be the fact the macbook is 4 years old. So then I try my Dads macbook pro because my phone isn't performing as well and keeps freezing and going into a bootloop. So I connected it to the pro and then about 45 min later, the macbook pro doesn't even turn on. Does anyone know anything about this? Do I have a virus on my phone possibly?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Its not a virus. Viruses cannot cause devices to not turn on.

What do you think caused both macbooks to have their data corrupted? I plugged in my nexus and both got fried. Now my dad is pissed and I need to explain to him it wasn't because I tried rooting and unrooting on the macbook

Yeah there's no way that running a couple of terminal commands from a Mac to a phone can do any of this.

Not sure if trolling or serious.
Unless you ran destructive commands using root, there's no way this happened.
What commands did you run? What tools did you use? Did you use a toolkit from the forums or did you download one from a random website?
Other than that you sound like a sheep, should have stuck to iPhones kid.

Sorry I was just being vague figuring someone else might have had the same problem. But first off I rooted and flash Franco first on my macbook. And everything seemed to work fine. Then after trying to flash PSX ROM, my phone started to run into problems. Like the first one was that something like the UID? had a problem with the system. So then I tried undoing the ROM and putting on cataclysm. This is when my Mac started to really get slow. My Mac just started crashing and so then I tried to flash the stock image because coincidentally my phone was rebooting like crazy and also crashing when trying to open certain apps or trying to do things to fast. While doing this my mac crashed when I was in the final stage of flashing my stock. So some kind guy on here helped me put everything back to stock. He also helped me root and flash Franco and cataclysm ROM. (Now started from when flashing the stock image on the phone successfully, I was using my dads macbook pro since my macbook didn't even boot up and was stuck on the apple logo) so after flashing everything my phone kept on getting into bootloops. So I tried putting everything back to normal, but then my macbook got unbelievably slow. So tried restarting it and then that macbook got stuck on the apple logo. I don't know what the hell is going on. Even as I'm typing this, my nexus 5 typing is laggi g like crazy!?!

That's not what we meant by steps you took.
We want to know if you used command lines and what commands you typed in.
Or if you used a toolkit program on your macs.
Otherwise no one can help or will have the patience.

OK really OP, it sounds like you didn't know what you were doing. First, wipe your Nexus 5 clean so you fix the lag and go back to stock. Then, figure out what you spilled on your macbook's to break them because obviously, it wasn't the terminal commands. If you really can't figure this out, head the Apple Genius bar, because we're not there with you to diagnose the problem. It wasn't the ROM or rooting, its something else. Sorry.

I was the one that got him set up using ADB/Fastboot on his Mac. I have to say, I'm pretty miffed at this. I've got an 08' MBP that I've been using to mod my phones and I've never ran into any sort of issue with the MBP itself. This is odd...

No, he's not trolling. I stepped him through step by step how to get ADB/Fastboot working on a Mac and restoring back to a factory image in Hangouts the other night. I just don't understand how he could have toasted 2 computers modding a phone...

Hey guys, first off I am not trolling. Secondly I did not spill anything on the macbook. But i just went out and bought a new macbook. Also I unflashed my Nexus so it is back to stock except for the fact that the bootloader is unlocked still. So now a new problem has arisen. my phone is still rebooting and draining a ton of battery because of it. I think i might just have a defective device. I'm going to contact google about this because no one seems to be having this problem. And I'm on stock now so I'm at a loss now

I'm not sure what's going on. I literally stepped him through setting up ADB and Fastboot on a Mac, even had him send me screencaps and we had it working fine, so I have no idea what's going on. Cut the dude some slack.
To fix your macs is easy bro just hold the option key down when booting. Select recovery on the gray screen, that should fix your macs. For the phone: always do a cache and dalvik erase.

Why not? You can build Android natively on a Mac as its Unix based. Second best option besides a Linux Distro, and a hell of a lot better than Windows. No driver issues, etc...

OS X is based on FreeBSD and shares unix ancestry with the Linux-based Android OS. In reality its much "funnier" to be modding on Windows.
