Chiming constantly while charging since 4.2.1 update... - Asus Transformer TF700

Is anyone else having the issue at all where the Infinity is intermittently "chiming" (the default notification noise) while plugged in and charging since the latest update? This has become extremely annoying. Everything else on the tablet appears to work fine, but this constant (roughly every 10 seconds) chiming noise while charging has me a bit concerned.
Turning the volume all the way down appears to have no effect, nor does setting the default notification to "silent". This is using the stock charger.
Thanks in advance.

Yes!
I have had the same issue, curious... You using the official Asus charger or an aftermarket?

Try manually reflashing the rom.
Tylor
Reflashing should just wipe the system and reinstall it, it should not touch your data, but to be 100% safe back up everything first(its a good practice )

Official charger. Unfortunately I lost the cable though, so the cable is after-market. Worked perfectly fine (no chime) pre-4.2.1 though. Still charges fine and connects to my PC fine, so I seriously doubt it's a cable issue.
You?

I have both an GTMax and the stock, it does the "chiming" on the GTMax , but not the Asus... At least I thought.
It did it on both the other night regardless what cable/charger combo. What I did notice on mine is that it only does it at 75% and up..
Annnd.. only when I try turning the screen off. If I have it on, it does not chime. I checked the "always on when plugged in" and that was not enabled.

Is it not possible to just set your tablet into silence? Or does it still chime?

UPDATE FOR TF700 USERS!!! AND THE 4.2.1 UPDATE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204100

I have 2 chargers - one official and one not.
It only does it on the unofficial one. The official one works perfectly. Asus must have changed something that detects or only works with official chargers and cables......

So, I found out this morning that there appears to be a difference between "turning the volume all the way down to 'off'" and "switching on 'silent mode' from the taskbar". For others having the same issue, seems like actually specifically enabling "Silent Mode" does indeed make this chime go away no matter what when charging.
Glad to know there's at least some way to get rid of it.

I have the stock charger and data cord and I am still experiencing the same issues. It hasnt quite bothered me like it has bothered my husband so its time to figure out what the problem is. I will check on the silent thing but stock charger isnt the issue for me.

[Q] TF101 _STILL_ rebooting after downgrading to honeycomb!

Since Asus ICS update was a gigantic failure for me (Youtube HD videos broken, reboots, etc) I decided to 'downgrade' back to honeycomb. However that DID NOT fix the rebooting problem. And sometimes it doesn't even reboot, it hangs on the bootscreen and does nothing, and sometimes it bootloops or just doesn't wake up from sleep. Just to note I am using the Revolver ROM for honeycomb (fully updated) AND I did not have these problems with the rom before I tried ICS.
Has anyone had similar issues? If so how did you fix it?
Please, my transformer is becoming more and more useless
How did you downgrade to HC? Did you also downgrade the kernel and bootloader?

I rooted my device and used an app that installed CWM.. Kernel is downgraded when flashing revolver and I did install an overclocking kernel from revolver parts. Bootloader I don't know.
Perhaps you should try updating the bootloader? It's just a theory, but I doubt it will make you Tf any worse.

I've got the exact same issue after the downgrading to revolver rom HC. How do you update the bootloader?
Also, I noticed that no problems occur when the device is charging, kind of wierd

Hope someone can tell how to update the bootloader. I was going to do the same thing with an tf101 because of all the reboots but if it dont help I rather wait to see how's it going..
The issue is that something goes wrong when the tablet goes in to "deep sleep". This is the same thing that is happening in ICS.
Now, I've found a temporary 'fix' for this issue. The fix is that you don't allow it to go in to deep sleep.
There is a program called WakeLock (It's on google play, my account is not allowed to post links :/) that lets you do just that.. Open up WakeLock and check the PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK radio button and then tap the Aquire/Release Lock checkbox. Now you're set! The tablet should not reboot.
This has worked fine for me as a solution and my tablet has been running all day without problems. There IS a downside though, your tablet WILL consume more battery power since it doesn't go in to deep sleep.
As a countermeasure to that I used setcpu and a screen off profile that downclocks the CPU to around 200-300MHz and after a full day I'm at 50% battery life (13 hrs on battery), not amazing but acceptable (my usage consisted of having wifi on at all times and watching 3 episodes of community and light web browsing).
Hope this helps!

The tf101 I want to downgrade don't have that deep sleep issue.. It reboots when it's in use, often repeatedly.. And often stuck on bootanimation (eee pad screen).. So maybe I should try anyway..

In the stock firmware on the ASUS site or in the OTA updates, there will be a blob file. The bootloader can be extracted from there with the blob tools (search in the dev section).
I'd make a flashable version, but I suspect that you have a WW TF.
Ok, now this is crazy.... I thought that I was going nuts when after a complete wipe (using SuperWipe script) and re-installation of Honeycomb from scratch, I too still had the reboots!!!
How can that be? The reboots were NOT there before I installed ICS!
Is it possible that Asus updated the firmware in a specific integerated device during the ICS update that is casuing these issues or something? I don't know how else to explain people having the same issues even after reverting back to Honeycomb!
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I do remember hearing that the bootloader was updated with ICS - would that normally get reverted back to the "old" bootloader when doing a full wipe with SuperWipe script and re-installing Revolver (Honeycomb verison) from scratch?
Hmm, maybe the best thing to try would be to try the old bootloader with new ICS? Maybe that will stop the random reboots with ICS too!
Thanks!
No, most roms don't touch the bootloader. The stock roms and the OTAs will flash it. Although I'm not sure how much it could do once the rom was booted. I've noticed a few bad flashes lately, but they are usually resovled by flashing again with a full charge, overnight, plugged into the wall, not the USB port. Give that a try first.

If there is anyway someone could package the old Honeycomb bootloader, i'd be willing to try it! I have been unable to find a way to get back to stock Honeycomb (in order to re-write the bootloader). I'm assuming that I'd need an NVFLASH version of stock honeycomb firmware to get there from here?

Two days ago I disabled the apps "Android keyboard" and "polaris" . Since I use Swype on the tablet and quick office, figured it couldn't hurt to try. Usually I'd been waking up to a frozen tablet or stuck on reboot screen. Two days now no freezes. Not sure if it has rebooted while asleep, but I use it every night for several hours, and since I did that I've had no problems. Maybe just lucky two days. Someone may want to investigate that further. Wifi is set to turn off when screen does. Hope this helps someone.

i have a us transformer with the exact same problems. I went from Revolver HC to revolver ICS back to Revolver HC and the ICS reboot issue is persisting. I thought it was just me, glad to see (for my sanity's sake, not your torture) that it's not just me. I know on my old Captivate, if you used a GB bootloader with certain Froyo ROMs there was bad effects. It is possible it plays into it somehow. I never flashed an official ICS update, but since the customs are based off of ICS official it is possible something was changed. I have tried different Kernels, different Daemon settings etc, and the longest i could go was 2 days with no reboot. Mine does the same thing tho - sometimes it reboots. other times it just hangs on the ASUS screen until it kills the battery. It doesn't do it while plugged in. I have super wiped, re-flashed, restored old nandroid backs ups, you name it i have tried. Any help here is much appreciated as i have started using my kindle Fire as my primary tablet because i am becoming so frustrated with the TF. It has rebooted once while in use while playing a game. The rest is while off. Once li clicked the screen off to put it down to get a drink and it rebooted. Its quite maddening at this point,
I was eventually able to downgrade my bootloader to the version that came with 8.6.5.6 (its the version I had laying around). So, I am now running the 8.6.5.6 bootloader with Revolver ICS - we'll see what happens.
First night was encouraging - over 5 hours of deep sleep last night an no issues... I'll keep an eye on it and report back.
It just makes NO sense how the reboot problem is now present even on Honeycomb, where is wasn't as issue beofore!
I now wondering if ICS either updated some firmware on some device in the TF (wifi chip, bluetooth chip, etc) or that the bootloader might be the difference....
So I now have a Honeycomb bootloader (verify bootloader version by looking at text on sceen after holding vol down + power) and ICS OS. Time will tell....
Can anyone else explain how the reboot problem could cause the issues on honeycomb as well???
Thanks!

Wif disconnecting and reconnecting while downloading or surfing web

Has anyone noticed their wifi disconnecting since the latest update?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
My WiFi doesn't connect after coming out of sleep sometimes. When I go to settings to check on the WiFi status, it is turned off. I've also noticed that although I have changed the option 'Keep WiFi on during sleep' to only when plugged in, it reverts back to always...even though it reverts back to always, it still does not turn on WiFi when coming out of asleep. My Acer a700 does not do this.
This has happened since latest update (26). I don't remember it happening prior to update.

I have been testing this more and more and it is happening when ever I am downloading a lot of data. I have tried multiple network settings and different networks and the same thing keeps happening. My WiFi will disconnect and then reconnect. Latest test was trying to download music from my google account to the Infinity. It starts downloading and then in a few minutes I get no internet connection. then it is like wifi turns back on and reconnects. Is anyone else having this issue. Can some others test this. I have reset the tablet to factory defaults 2X and I still have the issue.

I have had a TF101, a TF201 and now a TF700. Docked or undocked I've never had disconnects in WiFi. This is in spite of the fact that there are maybe 20 other WiFi networks visible. I guess I have a good WiFi router and do use a WiFi extender downstairs.

Set my router up to only use one channel and it helped. Used WiFi analyzer from the market to determine which channel was best.

Keep in mind that it could disconnect and reconnect without you even realizing it. I just happened to notice the wifi symbol going away and coming back on it's own a few times (one time, while waiting for a web page to reload). So, it *could* be occurring and you not even realize it...

I've noticed this problem too, only after the .26 update :crying:
(coïncidence ? I'm not that much of a downloader to be considered as reliable statistics )
The only time i saw it constantly connect/disconnect is when I did a hotspot off my phone and didn't enter the password in correctly. It didnt tell me it was wrong, just kept trying to connect over and over untill I stopped it and did a "forget" then reconnected entering the correct PW this time.

I did not notice it before the update either. Another one bites the dust. Check this: thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29648346
Basically since ICS google has screwed many customers. Like i have a Zyxel P-2812HNU-F3 and when i use the default 802.11g/b/n in router settings, then my galaxy nexus and infinity wifi will behave like yours. When downloading something or sometimes in browser, wifi disconnects and reconnects. Whats your router name? And also if you havent already, try going into router settings, change "Mode Select" to 802.11g Only. See if that helps. Still google screwed up when wifi works perfectly on my SGS2 on 2.3(using a custom rom on 4.0.4 which works great with wifi :S ) but not on nexus and infinity on 4.0+

Keeps restarting after JB upgrade

After JB upgrade, my tablet started consuming more RAM. And it keeps restarting. Even though I dont do hard stuff it freezes and try to restart but it gets stuck at ASUS screen. That thing keep turning and turning unless I press the restart button or the battery hits 0. There was no such thing before JB upgrade. And since this is a quad core tablet is it normal? All I'm doing is just surfing the net or watching videos on YouTube + 1-2 tasks. I did much harder things before JB upgrade but there was no such thing as restarting or freezing. Could it be because of the JB upgrade or did I do something wrong with my tablet. Anybody else has this problem? Is there anything I can do to fix that. Should I change my tablet or wait for a new upgrade or what? Would rooting my tablet fix the situation?

Be advised the factory reset will wipe the internal SD card and bring your tablet back to a factory state.
If you want to proceed:
Tap on the notification bar in the lower right corner (where the time is displayed.)
Tap on the settings icon (looks like a gear or cog.)
When the settings menu appears look for "backup & reset"
Choose "Factory data reset" (under PERSONAL DATA.)
The following message will appear:
This will erase all data from your tablet's internal
storage, including:
Your Google account
System and app data and settings
Downloaded apps
Music
Photos
Other user data
You are currently signed into the following accounts:
[email protected] (that's if you are signed into Google)
Do this tree times...
After which you will be back to square one with your tablet.
Good luck!

If it is still under warranty, I would send it in for servicing. If there is no physical to the screen, we can certainly take care of it for you. Not 100% sure, but it sounds like the digitizer when out.

[Q] Why is this thing always DEAD?!

I've flashed Cromi-X v4.5 deodexed to this thing. It runs much faster and smoother after doing that, but every time I go to use the thing if it hasn't been plugged in for over a day or 2 it's completely dead. I'm about ready to ditch the device because of it. I've disabled the wifi update when asleep- beyond that i'm not sure what else to do...Help!
Hold the power button down and select "Shut Down" when you arent planning on using it? Its hard to narrow down exactly what your issue is without more info. Different apps you installed may prevent deep sleep and keep it wake locked. Try downloading a battery monitor and see what exactly is killing it.

Like the other guy said. if you arent gonna use it for awhile just turn it off. Otherwise that is perfectly normal battery life for the device. Mine lasts me one day without the dock under normal use. I plug mine in every night.
