Requesting a donation Infuse for continued development. - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hey Guys.... I am reaching out to the community in hopes of finding someone that is willing to donate their infuse to me so that i can continue my development for this device. My Infuse is currently in poor condition as the USB connector is pretty much screwed. As of the past couple months, I have had to keep the device positioned correctly in a certain way so that the cable (whether just charging or mounted) stays connected and any slight movement would disconnect. It has gotten worse since that point and is almost at the point i am unable to connect to charge it. So.... Can anyone out there help me out? If you are not familiar with my work, please check out the links in my signature. Thanks.

Scott,
Stupid question but have you by chance tried a different usb cable? I had the same issue on mine and still do. i have 2-3 cables that will fall right out of the port or not charge unless possitioned correctly. i tried a brand new cable and my problem was gone. Just figured i would throw it out there incase it helps the situation.

Nice gesture to both Scott, and the community as a whole - my hats off to you. Just goes to show it is not always the number of posts, or the size of your thanks meter that makes the difference.

Its gestures like this that in my opinion, make XDA such a great community to be a part of.
FYI... In a week or so, you guys are going to be very happy that rwaterspf1 was able to donate his device... Im not going to tell you exactly what is going on, but lets just say you are all in for a HUGE surprise.... Can we say new project?

Thanks very much scott for the continues development to our device and for the dedications and hardwork you have given to the infuse community, and to rwaterspf1 we we're very grateful for your generosity thanks very much sir.

Thank you all for the kind words. Without the developers here on xda we would all be stuck with whatever the OEM's wanted to push on us. I have been using Scott's ROMs and have learned a ton about Android from reading posts here. I recently got an ATT Galaxy SIII and from what I have learned here on xda have ported Scott's Beanstalk so I can have the goodness on my new phone! I am very happy to be able to have a way to actually give something back to this community.

That's just friggin awesome! I am so proud to be a part of this community. There is a special place in Heaven for you my friend. I guess there really is hope for mankind!
BTW, Scott I can't believe you were able to developed as much as you have with a jacked-up USB port. You truly are greatness!
Thanks to both of you. Seriously.

I'm wondering...
Have you sourced out the board the connector is mounted to? I can only assume it can't be that expensive given the age of the device. I can't remember but I think I may have the breakdown and parts list somewhere... Prolly on a hard drive here somewhere.
I just think you could do twice as much with 2 working devices....

Don't know whats more awesome, such an amazing dev or such an amazing community!
Loving my new htc one but my Infuse will always have a special place in my heart

As long as myself or a fellow developer is able to keep the infuse alive and updated, I don't think I'll ever upgrade! And I agree... rwaterspf1 and others like him are a big part of what make xda such a great place.

CWM coming soon for 4G BE PATIENT!

Alrighty, Krylon and I have worked out the minor details and im headed to the post office to ship him my 4G first thing tomorrow(wed) morning. Please be patient and let nature take its course. Stop trying to flash the Vibrant CWM on the 4G, it will not work. You run the risk of doin' some srs bsnz to your shiny new handset flashing a cwm or sd fix that is not made for your phone. You will all have your Custom firmware fix soon.
If you feel a compulsion to donate to Krylon or myself, go nuts, i wont stop you!

Hey guys, crappy news. With whats happening in Japan im on a 45 day underway and i don't have time to send my phone off at the moment. We have to go hang by the coast and make sure nobody tries to take advantage of Japans situation. Krylon can you please respond to luckyduck's PM?
I've already been in touch with him. He's picking up a 2nd one today and sending me one....well that was the plan anyway. Waiting on a response.
Krylon, I know you haven't taken a look at the phone yet but Im new to the samsung world and curious about the differences from my G1. From another post I gather that the final product for installing/using CWM will involve a zip that is flashed from the standard recovery that replaces the standard recovery with CWM and then reboots? Is that what you think will end up doing to get CWM working? If so what about these phones require such a work around? I've tried doing some googleing but i get a lot of false positives in my results.
Thanks in advance for any answers and all the other work you do.

the kernel isn't a standard kernel. It uses a initramfs. which has recovery built into it. This is what makes it different.

[Q] [INTEREST] Okay... it's Bounty/Reward Time for ICS

I jumped from the Vibrant to the Infuse, and I've noticed development here is a little on the anemic side. I've seen a few people discuss starting a bounty/reward for an Ice Cream Sandwich port and wanted to see if anyone else was down or interested.
If it's just me then I'll be quiet and mods can delete this thread.
Update: Please try to make reference to +1 or "Yes I'd contribute to an ICS Port" if you want this to happen. Finding developers is easy enough if we have the numbers and support from the community.
I will be content with an official GB at this point. ICS would be a great bonus but only if HDMI and Bluetooth work.

We did like a fundraiser to get devs phones. One didn't work with kernels, one did a **** ton of work but got bored with it, one posted sources on git hub but never showed up on the forum and one posted work that he did without a phone till he actually one and vanished.
If we put up,money the bounty is the way to go because we can put it up expecting only one piece of work and they can,get the money when it is complete.
I would like to see if someone can pm netarchy and razor950 and see if they still have the donated infuses, if they are interested, and if not, would they pass the phone along to someone who is.

Just pissed myself laughing at what you wrote. I sent one PM -- if anyone has any contact information start throwing it up or recommendations of people to contact.
I am working on building an ICS AOSP rom. It is slow going though as I've had other life issues going on. I bought a nexus 4g and just got ICS AOSP built and running on it yesterday as a first step just to help me with learning how everything fits together.
I'm just doing this for fun to learn how Android works, so I don't really expect fast progress. I do own two Infuses so I'm covered there. I do have to admit the possibility of a bounty would encourage me to move faster
I'll be spending a lot more time over the next few days working on ICS. I've got a kernel in the works, hopefully I can finish it in the next day or two and test it out.
That's good to hear fellas. Take your time, we Infuse owners know how to wait for something. (i.e. Official Gingerbread) Lol

To netarchy's credit - he did talk on IRC with us, and saved me a TON of time in terms of Daily Driver development. He has never had a big forum presence - just look at the Ninphetamine thread, he was a major contributor to that kernel but only posted on the thread 11 times over its 2,900+ post life. Hacre (aka Ninpo) always did the release engineering portion of the work.
He got sick after QuakeCon which put him behind, and then real life stuff came up. It was disappointing, but at least we got some pretty good stuff out of his donated device even if it is not obvious to most users.
I'm going to try and shoot him a message (I don't think he checks XDA PMs any more, but I have other ways of getting in touch with him) to see if he is willing to give the device to a Cappy or Nexus kernel dev who wants to upgrade. (I would prefer if the device goes to someone with more time than I have to focus on it.)
razor950's device donation was unfortunate - he has a long history of saying "I'm helping you guys but don't have a device!" and then disappearing immediately after he receives it without a word. You have, IMO, no hope whatsoever of getting anything from him.

To all who develop for this community - Thank you.

I write this because I can't sleep.
No really because I feel anyone who feels the same should say so:
I am so very appreciative to all who dev for this phone. What you've done for this device is much more then bring us custom ROMs but you help anyone of us with problems we have regardless of the ROM we are running. Your awesome for staying and not quitting after 1 or 2 good ROMs ("tbalden") and you do it not for money but for us as a community.
For that I thank each of you, and can't express how greatful I am that we have so many new directions here recently.
Here is to you!!!!
Typed by ---- oh wait! I'm schizophrenic!
Yes, i second this! Thanks to all who have developed for this device, no matter how much or how little! Even if you have been rude, and condescending (you know who I mean), I am thankful for you all! I am very excited to see what you guys come up with next, and I will be donating as soon as I no longer have to choose between electricity and food!

I couldn't agree more. I have a disability, and DEPEND on my phone. T-Mobile support? Less than useful with all the problems I've run into. Thanks to the developers here, I am now able to customize my phone in the ways I need to manage my health.
Custom roms are great, but my health has improved because of the work people have put into this community. I don't think that's something people typically consider, and I'm not the only person who has benefitted in this way.

Polite Request

Hello everyone, I'm Indirect and while most of you have no idea who I am, I was politely asked to come help you all out for development towards downgrade / s-off on your devices. Now, as much as I would LOVE to help, I can only do so much without the actual device. I know this sounds like mooching, annoying, etc that some other "developers" do to try and gain attention but I'm sure you can see that I've made progress in just a few short hours as you can see here So I would like to now ask the community I'm trying to help if they would be willing to help me out as well and have my job be just a bit easier. I own multiple devices that I work on (Evo View 4G tablet, Nook Tablet, Nexus S 4G) and I develop for the evo shift when I can get around to it, but since I am not 18 and unemployed, I can't really go out and just throw down cash for a mytouch. Developing is essentially my career, balance that with school and my life gets hectic. So, if you read on, you will see how much I'm working towards.
What I need vs What I have:
Bought a device and it had a board failure within 2 hours... -- edit: RMA'd this one
New device, killed that one and since it has a void sticker broken and I'd rather not send it to HTC for moral reasons, I want to have it JTAG'd.
Well guys. I bricked 2 MT4GS while helping test s-off. Looks like I need to RMA one and JTAG the other. What do I need? Well, it cost 40$ + shipping. I can eat the shipping costs, but I can't crap out 40$. .__. So, any help is appreciated. OP has been updated with this post as well as a total amount vs what I need.

Edit: Switched links. Found a cheaper one for 220~
This is the device that I am wanting to buy because it's the cheapest one on ebay, has free shipping, and available for buy it now. So if you want to help, just click the donate button and I'll save up for it. I would really prefer to get this thing bought as soon as possible so I can get cracking on that bootloader.
hi, it's nice to see someone giving our device some attention
btw, i have a side question: do you have kernel dev experience too?

Thanks so much man! I knew if anyone could shed some sort of light to this dark tunnel most of the other users are in, it would be you. Thanks so much for doing this, I guess I owe you bigger than a Shift huh ha-ha....

I know some stuff about the kernel, but not atm enough to get a custom kernel up and running. Also guys, I seriously only have 1$ to my name, pretty sure it won't be enough. Lol.
This would be fantastic - I was working with this character last night in IRC and he's got the enthusiasm necessary backed up by the knowledge we need to get in our corner of XDA.
People are complaining from time to time about the anemic development here in the MT4GS forums, well, here is a way of increasing that dev.
If people aren't interested or able in picking up the torch themselves to get involved in development, then helping someone like this get a device in their hands will help us all out.
Normally i'm not such a fan of this but this is the real deal - we get a device in his hands and we WILL see more dev around here.
Look at the progress he's already helped us make towards the S-OFF issue - we got past getting the misc.version put in place and unraveled another layer of the issue, now we are stuck on hboot being our block.
Not bad for someone without a physical device in their hands, eh? Imagine what he could help us with not having to work proxy through one of us...
