SMS messages will only work on 3G or 1x. You must have an actual data connection in order to get SMS messages unless you use a service such as Google Voice.
I can turn off mobile data, be connected to wifi, and receive sms just fine. Now MMS that's a different story.

Hi guys, I am new to the forum. Used to have a Droid with Verizon. Yesterday I bought a Droid X fully flashed to Metro PCS. The kid showed me that the internet and picture messaging worked. We went to the market and downloaded an app to make sure that worked. He got it flashed, and then later someone else fully flashed it. We tested out a few websites just to make sure, and we weren't on wi-fi.
After a million struggles with the Metro PCS team of the Customer Service phone line, we finally got it activated.
Thing is, that it seems the 'fully' flashed disappeared. No internet, market place access, mms, etc.
Anyone know if reactivating a phone makes all these settings disappear and will I have to re-flash it? It still works with Metro, just none of the good stuff works.
If anyone can explain how to fix this or help me out in any way it'd be awesome.
Thanks,
Mike
droid x internet
hi guys does anyone knows how to get Droid x internet working ?
Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but I'm in a unique situation where I have absolutely no reception at work,so it's glaringly obvious to me.
Anything that requires some sort of sync (emails, google voice texts/voicemails, etc) don't actually get synced over just a wifi connection. I've tested this out repeatedly whereby I'll send myself a couple of emails and texts using gchat to my google voice number, and I won't get notified about any of them while on a wifi connection + no reception. Not even walking out of the office and going to an area with cell reception (Wifi + reception) gets the notifications to show up. However, as soon as I turn off Wifi (Cell reception only), all the notifications come rushing in almost instantly... what gives??
I'm running 1.82 and rooted if that makes a difference, but I would really like to hear from others on this issue to see if it's a common problem, an isolated incident, or if it's a setting I have mucked up somewhere.

Have you tried airplane mode then turn on Wi-Fi? Same issue?

This is really interesting. Seems like the problem is isolated to the wifi network at my office because I can't seem to replicate the issue at home. I put the phone in airplane mode like you suggested and kept wifi on and it worked just fine. Going to have to investigate this further...

I have the same problem with my HTC One X running stock ROM rooted. Google Voice, Google+ Messenger, and Gmail do not sync over my office Wi-Fi connection. I know our Firewall isn't doing anything because my Atrix II and Transformer TF101 still work fine. Seems like AT&T and/or HTC have messed around with the networking of the One X for some unknown reason. This doesn't happen when I'm on my Wi-Fi at home.
Has to be something with the network, I've been using 4 WiFi connections over the past week (traveled) and all worked fine.

I know it has something to do with the network, but why does the One X not work while my Gingerbread Atrix II and ICS Tablet work fine?

Got a similar problem.
Gtalk / whatsapp/ gmail doesn't sync over my work wifi, but it works perfectly at home.
can it be a port issue on the work internet settings..?
I posted a thread a few days ago about this, I thought it was because I changed gmail passwords.
Hope tis gets sorted soon, its a pita
Hi guys,
I've had my Razr Maxx HD (and still on stock JB, rooted) since December and I've noticed in the past month that I seem to lose data connection at least once a day. The 4G drops down to just text/voice, then takes a long time to come back. Sometimes the 4G 'connects' but it never turns blue (indicating data). I cleared my cache partition yesterday and it was a little better, but it happened again today.
Is anyone else having this issue?

The Mot's have better radios that any other phone I have ever owned. I just got the MAXX HD from the S3 for the same issues.
If your HD is having Radio Issues I would get Verizon to get you another one.

What this man said. I also moved to the Razr Maxx HD because of Galaxy Nexus radio issues. I only have data drops once in a great while and it's because my office is below ground-level. I never have data drops inside other buildings or outside.
With my Nexus I would get daily drops and/or lose signal completely. It was horrendous.
I just purchase a used droid razr maxx hd. Internet works fine, Bluetooth seems fine by itself, making a phone call and using the internet works too.
But, when I make a phone call using my Jawbone, then NO INTERNET while I'm on the call.
I can't seem to find a duplicate scenario on the internet for this. Any thoughts?
Stock phone, I have not rooted yet
update, correction. Internet works while using bluetooth on 4g, it's the wifi that does not work when on the phone using bluetooth
Wifi and 4g should work while on a call, 3g will not because Verizon uses the cdma radio for the call connection.
I'm wondering if this is a problem across the board. Lately in have been running a few different ROMs. Hyperdrive, moar and the most recent moar 5.0.1. I have noticed that my MMS won't go through while I am on WiFi. I don't know if this has been a problem for a while and I haven't noticed it. I really like the app textra, and unjust started using it the other day. I thought that was the issue. Uninstalled it and I am still having the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I really hope someone has a cure for this because it has been driving me insane. I shouldn't have to turn off wifi every time I want to send an mms to someone!
I'm on MOAR 5.0 v13

I'm thinking it's a rom issue because I just wiped my phone and installed cyanogenmod and I can send and receive mms messages over wifi without any trouble
are u using a network extender by chance when your on WiFi?

I always thought it was a network thing. I thought they required you to send and receive MMS through the cell towers because they're stored at Verizon servers before being passed along to the recipient. I had the same issue on my LG Ally, haven't tried MMS over WiFi on my gs3, but now I'm curious.

No, I'm not using a network extender. Interesting thing tho. MMS will not go thru at all on MOAR or Hyperdrive. I flashed bonestock 3.1 and when I send an MMS over wifi, the 4G turns on (so now the wifi icon and 4G are on) and it will send the MMS.......hmmmmmm
MMS / SMS are both sent over data networks, as this is the only way VZW can count how many you send, thus being able to bill those who do not have unlimited text messages. (this came from a VZW rep when i called in to get a work order on my phone, as mine wouldn't work)
When the S3 first came out, there was an issue with the devices as a whole, fully stock and unrooted, having problems sending text messages when the phone was on WIFI. The process is, when you hit send, it will shut off your WIFI, switch to data, send message, and then switch back to WIFI without you noticing it.
however, in the beginning, there was an issue with the phone doing this. AND this was even before rooting the phone. VZW and Samsung had to do a fix for their radios to get the phone to work correctly.
so what you are probably seeing, is an issue with that switching, not that the message won't go over WIFI, cuz unless these DEVs have figured out how to make messages go over internet instead of data network, then the issue is a ROM issue with the switch.
hope that makes sense...

Unfortunately, this is the answer that is most often given, but not very helpful (no offense). I think the majority of people with the issue at this point understand that MMS is sent via data networks by design, the problem is, it is not functioning properly. It is NOT shutting off the WiFi, therefore it is not sending at all. I've had different periods of success, where it'll work for a week, then back to the same ****. I've never rooted my phone, so it's a stock ROM issue that still remains.
always had issues sending MMS messages on roms other than stock when I was at home with my network extender...I kept messing with the APN settings last night... I changed the other thing to GSM and tried to connect to at & t towers.. after it failed only then it would have multiple choices of APN settings ..I have all the roaming options checked and the LTE/CDMA is checked...I've been able to send MMS messages with no problem now.

Just an update I'm on liquid smooth 4.2.2 and it automatically turns network data on if I have it off in order to receive/send mms. This is what I was looking for.
