Those who up'd from TF101 - was it worth it ?

I have 2 of TF101 plus a dock. Thinking about getting TF700 . Those who took the route - what are your impressions ?
I use the table 90% of the time as ebook reader - pdf and epub, using Mantano reader most of the time. Higher rez should make for a better ebook experience I hope, although I can not claim that I find TF101's screen lacking in clarity/sharpness department.
So far I dont feel that dropping $700 will fetch me much outside of small incremental gains over TF101

Biggest advantage is screen. Most apps don't push the 101 cpu anyway. But the screen is amazing and i loved tf101 screen too. For books it's probably iffy. I read a lot of comics and all I can say is wow. It's also a little thinner and lighter but i dont find it much easier to hold for reading. So if you're a gamer or you read comics or magazines its totally worth it.

if you read books a lot then i think you should get a 7 inch tablet like the nexus 7, it's light, easy to hold and you can hold it by 1 hand without getting tired. more importantly the nexus 7 has a very good screen display (1280x800)

For me I went from a TF101 to a TF201 and then to my current TF700T. From the TF101 you will notice a faster unit, better screen, thinner profile unit (both for the tablet as well as the dock keyboard), better battery length (at least for me). On the negative you will have one less USB port to use. I ended up getting a small USB hub to use and all of the things I used the USB ports on the TF101 would connect into the USB hub and work just fine, in fact all at the same time! Do not get the TF201 as an interim step simply because the GPS and in some instances the WiFi radios do not work or work in a restricted way. The TF700T that I have all of its radios work just fine.

I'm getting worse battery life but I'm experimenting with uninstalling and disabling apps and any background stuff (updates/sync/etc), I'm hopeful it will improve.
ergonomics, fit and finish, display resolution and readability, brightness, wifi range, storage (got 64GB with a 64GB card on the way), and the placement of controls and i/o connectors - hell yes, it's a primo upgrade from the Tf101.
Color balance on the screen is not good, too yellow, and battery life like I said is terrible compared to the TF101. I also don't like how the dock charges the battery, much prefer the TF101's method of keeping the tab at 100%.

Coming from a TF101 was a big jump for me. I decided to wait for the nicer screen. The screen and much more powerful CPU make watching movies a lot better.
I'm having to get use to the button and input placements, especially the power button. Coming from a TF101 dock to a TF201 dock, I was sad to lose a USB port. I still have my TF101, though I am trying to get rid of it, but once more apps are updated, and rooting/recovery becomes easy/one-click I will not use it again.

I'm coming straight from a rooted tf101 which I sold tablet/dock to a buddy of mine for $250. I mainly used my tablet for browsing the internet and watching movies. As you already know, the screen is much nicer and the engine in this thing is blazing. I get random lags here and there even after the newest update, but it can only get better especially after rooting and custom roms become more widely available. My tf101 couldn't even play 720p mkvs, but the tf700t handled the highest quality 1080p mkvs that I have without a hiccup. Colors are very vibrant imo. As far as internet browsing, some content takes slightly longer to render because of the hd screen I presume, but I know it will get better. It's lighter and more sleek than my bulky brown tf101. I also noticed I don't get as much battery drain while sleeping than I did with my tf101. As others have stated, I would rather my dock drain first leaving my tablet at 100% instead of both draining simultaneously.
The tf101 advantages were the 2 speakers and the two usb ports. I bought a small cheap rechargable speaker from walmart for $8 which was surprisingly useful called bomb speaker. I will also get a usb hub from amazon so those disadvantages are no deal breaker to me.

Just curious - what the hell are you guys connecting to your TF700 where one USB port isn't enough for normal use? I don't think I've even used both USB ports at the same time on my TF101, so 1 USB port didn't seem like a problem. I'm just curious what types of devices you guys connect where you need more than one USB port normally...

Not a big deal but I have a low profile usb thumb drive in my dock at all times, and would then want to attach a mouse. Now I have to pull it to use mouse

The screen alone is worth the money.
I was never able to read a lot on my TF101G I still used my ebook reader because it looked so pixaleted on the TF101G.
However with the TF700 that problem is gone and I just like it very much.

I connect a wireless mouse at times as well as a external USB cased hard drive. Also occasionally a memory stick. The USB hub is also used for my Asus UX31E for the same devices.

Ahh, I've been using a bluetooth mouse, which leaves the USB port free... Wasn't thinking about a mouse that required a USB port - then I could see two USB ports being useful....

I upgraded from the TF1010. The factors for me were the screen, the faster speed and the lighter weight. The TF101 was just starting to feel a little heavy for me, especially once I had it in a case. My TF101 was also starting to feel a little sluggish, so I decided to go for it. Couldn't be happier, the TF700 is really smooth and I haven't had any problems, with the exception of the battery life, I am one of those people that feel the Wifi is draining the battery pretty quickly.

If you read a lot of Comics or magazines or illustrated books, I would give the exact opposite advice. I have a 7" and 10.1" device and comics/magazines are unbearable on the 7 incher after having used a 10 incher. Provided you're strong enough to hold up the 10 incher. LOL.
That said, if 90% of your application is eBooks and you have already outlaid for the TF101 dock, I personally would not even consider upgrading until the next device given the cost for what would only be a very small incremental improvement for your application.
ASUS still needs to get their firmware act together for the T3 devices and QA is still something I'd be wondering about.

I upgraded from the prime after selling it (originally was going to get the Acer a700, glad I passed on that debacle). It was definitely worth it although I do miss AOKP and Jermaine's other work.

I also primarily use mine as an ebook reader (using the Aldiko app), and also use a few different news ready apps (Currents, Appy Geek and Pulse primarily).
I don't see much of a difference in how crisp the text is in any of these apps, however on the TF101 the white background had very faint artifacts (you might see them as little dots, or a pattern of some sort) which the TF700 doesn't. The white background on the TF700 is just solid white to my eyes. That makes reading for a long time much easier on my eyes.
I never really noticed that 'artifacts' (Warehouse 13 anyone? ) on the TF101 until I tried (and returned) an iPad 3. The screen on the iPad is gorgeous, as one would expect, but IOS is not for me. If there is a difference between the iPad and the TF700 screens, it's not something that *I* can see. I know the iPad has a somewhat higher resolution, but it's not enough for me to tell the difference - and that's all that matters.
So, in short, go for it - you'll love it.

I actually wasn't planning on upgrading, but the charging port on my TF101 broke about a week ago and the RMA process was going to take a few weeks so I figured why not? Honestly if my TF101 hadn't broken I would have been fine with it for another few months at least, if not another year.
As mentioned above, battery life isn't as good. Screen is excellent. I do notice considerably less lag when typing, especially in a browser. Loading pages is a bit snappier. It's a nice upgrade, but not worth $500 IMO, unless you have to like I did.

Buy TF700 or wait?

Hello, I want to get a new tablet (currently using and android'ed Touchpad still), and HD resolution is important to me. I've been keeping an eye on the TF700 and now have a chance to grab one for about $345 new. But I know some newer HD tablets were announced at CES and are on the horizon for some time (but I don't think pricing has been announced). At this point should I just hold off to see what is coming, or at that price am I safe to grab the TF700 and be happy for a while to come.
My primary uses will be reading Comics, web browsing, and 720p videos/movies.

6 months ago I would have said buy but today I would wait. The lag issue is a pia (at least if you stick with stock rom) and there are some new hd tablets comming out in the next 3-6 months. The only thing i don't know is if they will have sd slots (which is a must for me but appears to be a nono to google).

Thank you for response, I have no issue modding to a different rom, I've done it on other tablets / phones before (heck I'm using a touchpad modded from webOS to android now anyways). But if modding it doesn't help much then that is a concern.
My other concern was the newer tablets will be priced again in the 400-500 range, or the lower priced HD tablets will have specs worse than the transformer already has.

My honest opinion, it's very hard to find a FULLY LOADED TABLET like tf700 with the highest resolution screen. If you willing to unlock to use custom rom. I would say YES 100%.

I bought mine on ebay for 350$ used, well worth it, beautiful screen and nice speed, glad you bought it, 345$ new is nuts, is that a ebay deal or?

Well today there are two alternatives; the acer and nexus 10. The acer is not a bad tablet but it runs a bit warmer and I think it has shorter battery life ( you should check reviews; it's been a while since i've read them). The nexus 10 biggest con is no sd slot but the recent mobiltech - http://www.mobiletechreview.com/tablets/Google-Nexus-10.htm - was over the top positive if you don't need an that sd slot.

I'm not unhappy I have the tf700 but the lag thing is a major headache when updating or browsing a lot of web pages and given the price point of the tablet it is a bit downer.

Anyways I'll probably stick with it another year and then pick up a 13inch ultra-book (sub 3lb) with 1080p screen.

I think you should wait ! I own the tf700 and I'm not pleased with it mostly because of the lag and random reboots. Sony announced an HD tablet that seems to be a good one. Anyway you should wait until MWC in Barcelona at the end of next month before you make up your mind.

But Sony announces great things and releases them 6 months after everyone else. That's why their phone sales are in the toilet. They just came out with a new one, nice phone, but it is about the same as a one x, which came out about 9 months ago. I will also admit the lag issue, but still the best one out there, the screen is amazing.

Arguments for the TF700:
- Screen! 1920*1200.
- Screen. 700 nits brightness and great contrast. Almost twice as bright as an iPad 3.
- Keyboard dock. With additional battery and USB.
- microSD card slot, and full size SD card slot in the dock.
- It looks great.
Arguments against the TF700:
- Lag. Slow internal eMMC. (can be worked around with custom ROMs, but not fully solved.)
- Unlocking to install custom ROMs voids your warranty!
- Unlocking is a lottery, and you still can't replace the bootloader on an unlocked device. (the unlocking tool simply does not work for some people and they get no help from Asus.)
- Somewhat unstable, occasional random reboots, hangs with white screen.
- Build quality issues - people report the docking mechanism breaking, light bleed, screen getting loose.
- Only 1 GB RAM and old (for 2013) Tegra 3 SoC.
- Some software that works on other tablets is not available for the TF700.
- Loudspeaker isn't great.

Some folks are replying without seeming to have read the other comments beyond the first. The OP has already made a move on the TF700T.
For the OP's needs "reading Comics, web browsing, and 720p videos/movie", the TF700T is more than suitable.
No doubt the N10 has higher performance, but at the cost of far worse battery life. And you don't really need an N10 for "reading Comics, web browsing, and 720p videos/movie". I guess you don't "need" a TF700T for that either. Lower ranking devices could fit that bill just fine.
But considering the OP has purchased aTF700T, I think they'll enjoy it.

Exactly, the N10 is nice and all, but I couldn't live without my MicroSD card, the OP will enjoy it a lot, the 1080p screen look brilliant with movies and text, and you can store tons of movies on a microsd

I just got my Infinity 64GB about 2 weeks ago. I'm pretty pleased with it so far. I have noticed a bit of lag on the web, but it's not horrible. I'm sure a fix will eventually come out for it. I don't see it staying that way forever. I'd probably like to eventually root it, but I get totally confused when reading the instructions on how to. I've only rooted my HTC Thunderbolt and that was a pretty in depth task.
I have noticed the little black line thing here and there but it's not too bad either. I figure a fix will come out for that as well.
I will say with 64GB I was able to load 13 High Quality (about 3 - 6gb each) movies on this thing and it works great! Think I might try knocking the quality down of the movie to a smaller file size so I can load a lot more on here. Just haven't found a ripper/compressor that I like that can create ripped movies without a lot of artifacting...
I'd say the most bothersome thing I've noticed with this tablet is the Light Bleed... however it's only noticed during a completely black screen. It's always got the factory warranty, plus I purchased a 3 year Square Trade warranty along with it so I'm good until 2016 with this bad boy.

Do it if you are comfortable unlocking, flashing trwp, and installing Clean ROM. After doing so my tab is smoother than ipad4 at my work. New tablets may be coming out but i doubt they have a comprehensive KB dock as good as this one. Screen is better than retina display and other HD tableys bc of IPS+, screen brightness is as important as res due to glare issues, IPS+ is great for combatting this, and i have yet to see another device with super IPS+. The screen goes to 600 nits of brightness rather than 300-350, which is the highest ive ever seen in any tablet or laptop. The range of brightness settings is also badass, you can go to incresibly low to incredibly high, which is great but often unmentioned.
I have actually replaced my laptop and desktop with tf700. Since buying and flashing CROMI i have never touched my laptop/desktop. My workflow is better on this bc of gesture/KB dock combination. I couldnt be happier.
Plus the tf700 is a sexy fckin beast, nothing else out there looks as badass. The mfctring quality is sick. I have dropped mine from around 5 ft off the ground onto concrete on pretty much every edge of this device and it is still working as well as when i bought it. Slid off my kitchen table onto tile floor directly onto the creen and slid about 5 feet, yet the screen doesnt have a single scratch. GO TF700 lol.

If you don't need the keyboard dock. Then jump on the Nexus 10. But if you are planning to use the tf700 and rooting with a flashing rom. Pull the trigger. Tf700 rooted is a beast of a tablet. And just provides so much functionality with the dock. I mean extra battery, sd slots, usb slots. The full package.

Its never to late to RETURN IT! And you will find there are now some that have unlocked it had to send it back and Asus will not fix it even though it was a hard ware problem. I had just bought one a week ago. Would not even turn on. Just look at all the new stuff coming out some in just weeks others a few months. Better to wait. I am

Need help deciding what tablet to get I currently have an iPad 4 retina 64gb, and I like it but have come to the conclusion that I only like it because the apps are optimized for the tablet screen, have the note 2 and love it and want the same experience on a tablet instead of waiting around for a jailbreak to get somethings that I can do on an android tablet. I like to play video games and the moga or plug in an Xbox 360 controller is a plus for me widgets and all that fun stuff I like. The choice of tablets that I'm considering is the Asus transformer infinity with keyboard dock or the nexus 10 leaning more to the infinity because with the keyboard dock it can replace my laptop with splash top connecting to my Mac mini it is a laptop at all times. Things that concern me is screen resolution, and tablet optimized apps any help is much appreciated.

Except for the fact that the Nexus 10 has a) availability issues and, more importantly, b) quality control issues that seem even worse than with the 700. You furthermore do not get the added battery life because of the powered dock, and less storage options. Why do you put forward the N10?
More on-topic, though: it really depends on preference, as Thats OK already said. I really do like the battery-powered dock and the extra oomph that gives -- I have a relatively long commute and irregular shifts, so it pleases me a lot not having to recharge every 12 hours, or whenever a wall socket is available somewhere. The screen resolution is fine -- I happily read technical (medical) books and articles, for which the radiographs, charts and stuff all come out really nicely, and even the private reading is a pleasure (text is crisp, contrast is good). The movies and documentaries or TED talks I regularly watch are great, too.
Nah. I'd pick the TF700 if it came out now if I had no other options. However... and we also discussed this last week -- you really should use the serch function, you know -- someone I forgot the name of mentioned that soon a bunch of new models of several brands will be announced soon, and it might be prudent to wait it out a bit. You might shoot yourself in the foot when buying into an aging system, no matter how well it performs. Then again, in tech, there's always something better just around the corner, and if you wait, you can wait forever.

You should wait and see the new Samsung tablet line-up (new models should be announced soon) before buying anything, well at least this is what i would do.

MWC is coming tomorrow and I am sure the right thing to do now is WAIT!!! Many new awesome products may be introduced during MWC, which may include tablets. I was hoping for a new Transformer tablet, but it seems that ASUS will introduce a new Padfone, which technically can still be considered a tablet.

While you may end up with a better tablet if you wait, that same logic would mean that you would never buy a tablet since there are *always* newer and better devices around the corner. Even if the "perfect" tablet gets announced tomorrow, you then need to wait another few months before actually getting your hands on it (if you are lucky) - and even then, how knows what will happen (could end up being a dud). You just can't tell the future!
My advice - go to Best Buy today, mess with a few different models for an hour or so and buy one NOW! We are not talking about purchasing a new house here - it's a tablet that costs ~$500 that will be worn-out and/or outdated in a year or two anyway. Satisfy the urge and go get what seems best - you won't regret it - any modern tablet is an extremely fun device to use!
It's easy for us to tell you to wait - we already have a tablet that we are thoroughly enjoying!

IMO 32 gb for the internal memory is plenty to hold your apps and some media. I put all the space-intensive stuff, music, pics, videos on external SD/micro cards anyway.
The dock, providing a good keyboard, extra battery, USB and extra SD card slot is one of the main selling points for this tablet.
If you want a dock, the TF700 is your best choice - no doubt about it.
If you don't need/want the dock you have quite a few other choices for a great tablet out there.

I thought about waiting myself. However, I wanted Tegra platform, and it looks like the earliest a Tegra 4 TF would release is in July. Side by side, I don't see a difference in the quality of the screen between an ipad 4 and a TF700. OTOH, the TF700 screen gets very very bright for outdoor usage.
As to storage, I've got a 32GB TF700, a 32GB microsd card installed, and the keyboard dock with a 16GB SD card in it; that's roughly 80GB of raw storage here and I can easily expand it. With the dock, battery life is phenominal. The tiny keyboard is taking some getting used to, but it's very handy. In fact, I haven't even turned my old dell laptop on since I got this. Just haven't needed it. I use a PS3 dualshock controller and a micro-hdmi cable for emulator gaming on the big screen. It's pretty cool. Haven't played any of these SNES games since I was a teenager.
The touchwiz launcher on your note 2 isn't available on a transformer. Asus has it's own launcher, but it's very nice. I suggest you try one out in Best Buy. They have a sale this week, the TF700 is $429, and the KB dock $99. That's like $120 off full price. Though, I think they change their sales on wed, so I'd decide quickly.
I don't regret buying the TF700 one bit. It's a good tablet/laptop replacement, and less than half the price of Asus's own ultrabook with a touchscreen. The only thing I'm really sacrificing is a full windows platform. In all the time I've had my old laptop though, I never really did anything on it that I couldn't do on this tablet, and this tablet does it for over 8 hours longer, lol.

Seriously, fck samsung and there crappy-soft-plastic build quality. Anyone who would consider a samsung product does not know anything about build quality. The ridiculously high resolution? Not worth it. Why push a higher pixel count than the retina display if you cant see pixels beyond retina display. All of the android tablets anounced for this yr do not improve on the infinity except for vizios tablet that uses a tegra 4, and who knows when that will actualy be released. The tegra 4 is expected to ship on devices late this year. Of tablets on the market a non-stock infinity handles them all with no issue. I can confirm this bc i work at a tech store and have tested them all against my infinity. No android tablet can replace a laptop like an infinity. Since buying mine 8 mos ago I havent once used my old laptop.

Just want to make a slight correction, minus the keyboard dock, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z has much better hardware specs than the tf700 (Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2 GB RAM, even 4G LTE). Since it is going to be released in May in the US, it will be a mistake not to consider it.

Dang must be a local best buy sale, mines still at $499. Though about the xperia but really like the idea if the dock. With the Ubuntu coming out it could make the tf700 VERY interesting.
If I get it I will be getting a dock. Was just wondering if it's better to get the 64 or just have a microSD and SD in the dock and call it good.

The problem is that you can't get a keyboard dock with the Sony, which is one of the TF700's main selling points!
I cannot understand why other manufacturers aren't offering an optional keyboard dock - I simply wont even consider a tablet without a keyboard dock -ever. It just makes the device that much more useful...

Absolutely not - a bluetooth keyboard is not even close to a true keyboard dock. A true keyboard dock is integrated with the device - it becomes part of the device. It includes an a battery to charge the device, a USB port, a SD memory card slot, customized buttons on the keyboard, a trackpad with two mouse buttons and even doubles as a stand for the tablet (which even charges the tablet!).
On the other hand, a bluetooth keyboard is just another separate accessory that you have to lug around, actually requires batteries instead of providing a battery, has no expansion slots and is, in general, a pain in the a$$ to work with (I know, I've tried).
So, as you can see - while they do make bluetooth keyboards that would work, they do not provide anywhere near the level of integration or functionality of a true keyboard dock. It's not even close.

I've tried a couple I have the RockSoul BT keyboard it's a hassle and disconnects periodically.
For me a keyboard isn't a necessity.

I load all my large files like media and videos on SD/micro cards, basically use the internal for apps and such only. 32gb is plenty for me in that regard...
64gb micro in the tablet, 64gb SD in the dock + optional USB stick.... I don't think I'll ever run out of storage on this baby!

[Q] Does having a Phablet bar one from buying a Tablet?

I'm having a Samsung Galaxy Note II, more commonly known as the 'Phablet'. Initially I was happy that I needn't invest in a tablet as this is combination of both the interfaces. Well, later I was really fascinated by the Windows 8 Pro Tablet that had come up in the market, and I wished I had one.
So basically my question is like, will buying a Windows 8 Pro Tablet render my 'Phablet' useless? Or is there anyone out there, who inspite of having a Phablet owns Tablet? Please provide me with some details!

It's really up to you and how you use things.
Go look at a "tablet" in person and see if the size makes enough difference to you. Windows 8 is a whole different OS than Android - some people own multiple phones and multiple tablets just to be able to use different OS/hardware/because work/et cetera.
Your Note II will still do whatever it does, it won't stop working. No one will tell you how you're allowed to spend your money unless you've done something terrible and there's a court order against you.
Think of your useage and when and where you'd be using each. Are you going to lug a tablet around with you all day ? Do you have a bag or briefcase to do so that you would need to carry anyway or will the tablet just stay at home ? Do you spend your time at a desktop computer or would you use the tablet to browse while watching TV ? Et cetera. It's completely up to you.

I doubt I'll stop using my tablet. My phone will never have the functionability my TF700T has with the Dock. And a 10.1" screen is simply more convenient when watching films or navigating.
It also seriously spares the battery life in my phone if I use my Tablet.
So no, I don't think it does. Not for me, atleast. But it depends on what you intend to use it for, how much you're on the road, and how important some functions are to you.

TF700-like alternatives

Just wanted to start a dedicated thread to discuss some potential replacement devices for the TF700, instead of discussing it in the CROMi-X thread (some people seem to get really upset when you talk about something "off-topic"!).
As we all know, the TF700 has some serious flash-memory performance issues. While I would love to replace my TF700 with an alternate-branded device (not giving Asus anymore chances - was bit by them with the TF101, TF700 and even my Nexus 7 is now having charging issues), there don't seem to be many (if any) options available that provide the same functionality as the TF700's keyboard dock (which I use with my TF700 99% of the time!).
So far, we have identified these potential Android alternatives in the CROMi-X thread (really not interested in a Windows or Apple iOS device):
- HP SlateBook x2
- Toshiba AT10LE-A (speculative at this point - not released yet)
Really, that's about it. However, it has been noted that the HP SlateBook x2 has two serious (deal-breaking) issues:
- No root access (at leat not yet)
- No way to connect to PC (although, I just read about a cable that does allow ADB access when connected to a PC, so this may not be an issue anymore).
The Toshiba AT10LE-A sounds promising, but I would be worried about developer support for it, if it is ever really released (just "leaked" info so far).
Anyone else know of any other Android-based devices that support a true keyboard dock?

Hmm, just realized that the Toshiba AT10LE-A "leaks" were all from May, 2013 - it looks like the tablet was already released, but I can't find any mention of the keyboard dock anywhere "officially" - I'm wondering if the keyboard dock got "axed"!?!? I hope not!

Well this isn't exactly a tablet but an interesting idea, The TransMaker

That's an interesting idea that I like. The only problem is that it's specific to one type of phone... But, for $99, it is interesting!
Honestly, I really don't understand why more tablet makers don't offer keyboard docks as options - even if they don't have the battery in them like the TF700 dock does. I really don't understand it. It would just be another accessory that they can make money off and would offer more options to their customers.
I really wish Samsung made a keyboard dock for their tablets - they seem to produce some very well-received tablets - just wish they had a keyboard dock!
It's getting to the point where I may just go with a "keyboard case" - Zagg seems to make some nice ones for some popular tablets. At least that way, it would still be "part of" the tablet and you wouldn't need to carry around a completely-separate bluetooth keyboard. Plus, they have backlit keys, which is really nice. Sure, I'd lose the battery, the trackpad and the expansion ports (SD Card and full-sized USB port), but honestly, I really don't use those that much on my TF700 (beside the battery). It is nice having a USB port when needed though (I can even connect a DVD drive to my TF700 to read DVDs when needed!).

My Dad had a Samsung Note and had a KB dock for it. I think it was the Note....
I'd prefer a hardware interface dock, not a BT dock, also. Integrated battery would also make it much more worthwhile. That is why I bought this TF700 in the first place.

Well I have a TF701T and it is a fantastic device. So much faster than the TF700T. Even with stock it is quick and with CROMi-X it flies.
The main issue is the dock. Asus have messed up big time as there is a design fault that means the tab doesn't sit firmly in the dock. I sent mine away for repair and they sent it back 'fixed' - in reality they changed the hinge but it made no difference. It doesn't actually cause any issues just doesn't feel great when you pop it over feeling some movement there. Some people have had connectivity issues due to this fault so I imagine it may shorten the life of the connector.
Shame really as other than this you cannot fault the device at all.

I thought that you still had some flash-memory slowness with the TF701? I thought that you mentioned that in the CROMi-X thread shortly after you got it?

Er.... no by default the browser is not very optimised but the device is very quick off the bat. I said that the optimised TF700 doesn't necessarily warrant an upgrade but the TF701 is definitely faster. 18900 on quadrant (16,000 stock) and 33,000 on Antutu.

Ah - sorry about that! As I get older, my memory gets worse and worse!!
Maybe I really should consider the TF701 then - I'm just so weary of Asus anymore! The TF101, TF700 and now the Nexus 7 (which I really liked up until I started having charging issues) have left a "bad taste in my mouth"...
But then again, being that I use the dock almost 100% of the time, I'm now a little worried about the dock issues that you've mentioned...
I think I'll hold out a little longer and see if anyone else releases an Android tablet with a keyboard dock before I decide...

The tf701 is a speed demon, so far has not suffered with the tests I've done, here some differences with the TF700:
Display: The tf701 has a much better than the TF700, which has its best when you activate the " vivid " mode, the resolution is higher and definitely looks awesome. The only lack is that i believe tha not have gorilla glass, definitely anti scratch, but not gorilla glass.
Processor and Memory: This section is satisfactory, the TF 700 users notice the difference immediately, when you install applications can navigate and do other tasks without lag, transfer files have a nice speed, and his 2 GB memory mantains everything very fluid. :fingers-crossed:
Battery: The performance is much better than my experience with the TF700 , can work between 20 % and 25% .
Games and Office Applications : This tablet can do it all, for example, the NFS most wanted graphics demands increases or decreases according to the SOC power, in my nexus 4 it runs with medium to high effects, but on the TF701 applies all effects like wet streets , smoke and paint scratches. In other hand with office applications, finally I can work with excel files without feeling that huge lag when moving from one sheet to another . :fingers-crossed:
Sound: The speaker is more powerful, but i miss the double speaker like the TF101 :silly:
Cons : Well you i have to mention it, and first is the possible lack of Gorilla Glass ( a screen protector resolved it ) , elimination of flash camera ( I personally do not take pictures with the tablet ) , less resolution of the rear camera, and finally the vibration was removed ( I have not found a way to activate )
TF701 is for now a strong option if you have or comer from TF700, had a note 10.1 and returned it for the amount of bloatware and thin frames, nothing beats the feel of the aluminum case in my hands.
I mention that this is my experience and just my opinion.

Why not wait for ASUS to come out with a TF702? Maybe ASUS will finally make the perfect Transformer -- I'd hope ASUS is aware they flubbed up the dock & will fix it.
When I had my Google Account sync problem in cromi-X, I bought the Dell XPS 12 (work emergency). I really like it.

Well, for some reason, Asus just can't seem to a Transformer device just right... It seems that there have been some pretty major issues with every transformer they've released - sometimes hardware-related and sometimes software-related:
- TF101 - This was probably the best Transformer of all time - had stereo speakers (on the sides), was lightweight and performed very well for it's time. The keyboard dock was just about perfect as well. I really like the TF101 - until they broke the firmware for it and just abandoned it with broken firmware (random reboots).
- TF201 - This one was a disaster from day one - had a lot of hardware issues including weak wifi and GPS reception... Didn't buy this one, luckily.
- TF700 - We all know about the problems with this one - SLOW flash memory! Then, once again, the "final" firmware release left a few things broken - I constantly get some kind of major "blue" screen interference when using a mouse (or the trackpad), mainly due to the calendar widget, I believe. Most folks also have battery drain problems, which appear to be a result of a software issue. Of course, Asus didn't fix the issues and just moved onto a new device.
- TF701 - Seems they fixed the slow flash memory but they broke the keyboard dock!
As you can see, I'm weary of waiting for the next "almost great" Asus tablet - and for good reason, I think. While Asus is quick to release new versions of firmware, the releases are usually bug-ridden and have some pretty big issues and then they just abandon the device and release a new one, leaving us with decent hardware (usually), but bug-ridden software.
Based on their history, I just don't have any faith that Asus will release a great Transformer...

This. I did a good bit of research, but when I went to buy my TF700 there was very little info about the internal i/o issues. I had never owned a previous ASUS device but had seen all of those issues, but it seemed that the issues were always treated as "all the previous issues from the TF series are fixed in the TF700".
Having seen sbdags' report on the power of the TF701, I'm sorely tempted to get that device, but since it is going to be a while before I get one, I'll definitely be checking out the competition. But I ma just like you - I am absolutely addicted to the (TF Series) dock and the battery in it....

I am not sure you'll ever have consistent excellent USER feedback (though you may have a consistent majority of positive user reviews) - there are always going to be people who do not like a device for whatever reason. I'm like that regarding iOS-based devices - never gonna own one. No matter how good a device is from crapple, I'll never own one - I would have in the past gone with a Mac as an additional machine, but now that I can do Hackintoshs, I'll never buy a mac.
In the past I've been the same way about Samsung as well, but as it is coming time for a new phone, I might have no choice but to look into a Sammy for a phone...but I have not researched phones in so long, I have no real clue what a good powerful phone is anymore lol.

If you're cool with stock KitKat with added apps that will eventually be copied by others, check out the moto x. I know it has a rap for being underpowered, but this phone is easily the best smartphone I've had yet. If my X breaks tomorrow, I'm buying another one at motomaker.com within the hour.

I was actually watching that pretty heavily over at DroidRZR last year when it was in development. I'm pissed the Google turned around and sold MotoMobi out after grabbing only the patents, because I really thought that Google + MotoMobi was going to be a total win situation, hands down, in spite of some info I found out about MotoMobi....
And this time I'm getting a dev edition lol....

Moto X comes in Dev edition, too. Anyway, just my 2 pennies worth. Have fun picking a new phone, @johnlgalt !

I am well aware that the dock is no where near as functional as on our Transformer, but I still think this new Lenovo tablet (and matching keyboard) does look interesting. I do not know how the processor fares against our TF700s though...
