There has been a lot of disappointing posts all over the forum with people complaining about bugs, while not providing any kind of information for the developers aside from "X doesn't work" or "I get random reboots".
Well, without the proper knowledge, how are we going to fix it? We don't know what kernel you may be running, what version number you're on, or any information that the system spits out to let you know there's an error. So, I decided to start this thread, to hopefully teach newbies how to give us (developers) proper knowledge when complaining about issues.
This thread will have 3 sections, Logcat (App / system debug log.), Dmesg (active kernel output) and last_ksmg (Typically if you get a random reboot or something of that sort {this is the same as dmesg except it gets the info from the last shutdown [like a kernel panic]})
Section 1: Logcat
This log should almost always be included just because it provides more info than just saying something doesn't work. It will essentially tell you which apps are crashing and why and it also gives output of what they're doing. (Your system is running through apps, the dialer, wireless radio's, etc are all ran through apps.) so, if something is general, like a system force close, please just include a logcat.
How to get a logcat:
Well, this is REALLY simple, all you need to do is just get adb up and running (google how to do that, I don't feel like writing a 'how to use adb' tutorial for everyone's phone.) and then type
Code:
adb logcat
then you just right click, select, and paste to the thread. It's really that simple!
Section 2: Dmesg
This is getting into issues such as wifi not working, sleep of death, etc. Basically, things that make us go "OH F***" when we use our devices. Note: You will need adb access for this to work, same as logcat.
What this will do is get us live kernel output so we can know things like "What driver is the kernel loading {or not loading for that matter}" and similar things. This is linux, so kernel output is important if a hardware aspect isn't working right.
How to get a dmesg:
This is simple as well, no matter what operating system you're on (mac, windows, linux) just type
Code:
adb shell dmesg > dmesg.txt
and then it will have written the output to a .txt file in your current directory. Either paste the contents to the thread, or attach it to your post.
You can also get the dmesg by using terminal emulator. Instead though, you dont type adb shell, you need to also include it to somewhere you will be able to save it. Like /sdcard so, the command goes
Code:
dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.txt
Just get it off your sdcard and get the contents to the developer!
Section 3: last_kmsg
Ok, the last thing is last_kmsg. When android kernels crash, they right to last_kmsg so then you can find out what's going on. This is usually for issues such as random reboots and other various kernel panic symptoms. A kernel panic happens when the kernel tries to do something it can't. It doesn't mean wrong permissions, it could just have errored out on something and died which can cause a few things. Anyway, developers REALLY need this if debugging a kernel because it gives us a viable way to see WHAT it's trying to do instead of trying to guess what it is trying to do
How to get a last_kmsg:
This is super simple and the same on all phones no matter what, what you need is adb up and running (or terminal emulator) and either in adb shell, or terminal emulator just type
Code:
cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg.txt
or you can do
Code:
adb shell cat /proc/last_kmsg > kmsg.txt
and that will write it to your current working directory from cmd.
Hopefully, this way we developers can have our lives be a little bit easier and you can learn more about android.
I'm glad to have written this and devs, feel free to link to this guide as a "bug reporting FAQ"

Frankistines build was based on Bruce's CM10. Did you also get his latest updates, or you just got where Franks left?
Also I noticed you've included Gapps, I'm not entirely sure, but I believe Google is against that, or something like that. I might be wrong, but you should look into that, just in case.
Anyway, cool to see AOKP back into Sensation, nice work. And if you ever decide to upgrade to JB4.2 AOKP that would be pretty cool.

Google only requested that the official CyanogenMod team not include gapps; they didn't ask anyone else to not include
gapps, so it's fine to include them.

Redux is a custom ROM, built with three key aspects in mind: Clean, fast, stable.
Features:
This second version focuses on users' needs and experience; it tries to bring useful features to our phones that have a place in our day-to-day usage models. Current implemented features are as follows:
FM radio support;
Built-in FTP server functionality, so there's no need for a cable when transferring files;
Multitasking panel, with quick access to common settings and multimedia controls.
Smaller additions include:
Trackball wake
Lockscreen music controls
Playback control via the volume keys
Killing the foreground application by long-pressing BACK
LED notifications improvements
Option to turn overscroll glow off
Supports small /cache partitions
LITE build supports small /system partitions (as small as 75MB with the LITE build)
Source code:
The source code isn't yet available, though I will release it at some point in the future, after it gets settled.
Requirements:
Amon-RA or ClockworkMod recovery to flash the image
Installation:
Flash the .zip file from recovery. If coming from another ROM, erase /data and /cache partitions.
Download:
Redux2-31.08-TEST.zip (md5: a27c14e6dd0fb90e8c54ef1c392e198b)
Experimental versions: (These are not supported in any way, and you may not find any use for them)
Redux2-31.08-lite-TEST.zip (md5: 84fd58305dab7e9c3a17f69093e4bcd3) -- This is a stock Redux build with LiveWallpapers, Gmail, Maps, Talk and Email removed. It uses only 75MB of storage.

Read the FAQ below to learn how you can involve in the Redux project.
FAQ:
Q: I've installed it, what now?
A: Enjoy your Desire. Redux comes fully equipped and most usual tasks can be accomplished with the stock apps and settings. Google applications such as Gmail, Maps or Youtube are included as well.
Q: Is this compatible with Oxygen's HBOOT r1 partitioning scheme?
A: Only the LITE builds.
Q: Is this compatible with Oxygen's HBOOT r2 partitioning scheme?
A: Yes, all builds.
Q: I thought this ROM had A2SD. Why isn't there enough space on my phone?
A: Apps are being moved to the ext partition on the card but dalvik-cache is eating up a lot of space. If you can't live with this, download the 'apps_dalvik2ext' script from the add-ons section in the first post. Flash that like a regular update .zip (warning: the .zip isn't signed) and you should have more space on your /data partition.
Q: What about these test builds?
A: These are perfectly stable for daily-use but bugs may appear from time to time since the development speed is quite high. Also, more features are planned for the final versions so there's no need to name things as "final" for no reason. What's the rush?
Q: Will this feature be included in the next release? Please!
A: Having many features is far from this project's purpose. I am going to focus on adding only useful features and ignore stuff like "dude, but I want to have glowing stars on my display!". If you think you have something in mind, you're more than welcome to share your thoughts in this thread and I'll consider it.
Q: What can I do to help? Can I join the team?
A: You can improve Redux at any time, mainly with translations. A guide will be posted in the near future.
Q: Where's the donate button?
A: Look in my signature. Donations are welcome in a humble way; I am not developing this ROM for your money, but for my own pleasure. It started out as a personal project but it has grown on me and I continue to develop Redux even if I no longer have an HTC Desire.
Very nice! Good job!
edit: just wondering if thats the full changelog?
This is not the final version, and as such the feature list will grow in time. I just considered it's better to move the discussion about Redux2 in a separate thread, and leave the old one free for anyone who still uses Redux 1.2 and encounters an issue, needs advice, etc.
Sweet as, Will be looking forward to more updates in the future. Ok if i create redux twitter page? bored
Hi
i am new with your rom i install v1.2 yesterday
if i flash new version without backup should i lose any data or program
also i download the 'apps_dalvik2ext' script in v1.2 should i install it again
I'd guess it'll be ok.
Great!
Thanks for continuation.
Going to try.
Wait for the sources.
I was just testing Cm 7.1 and found to be quite good. But very bloated with features here and there (not to mention bad battery). But i did find a couple of upsides to it.
Music app looked much nicer. Maybe you could theme original, or some how incorporate cm's one. I tried replacing it by pushing cm's to system/app but it didn't work.
The Dsp manager is a neat app too. But then again we can all just push it if we want to all in all great rom!
I had just perfected my customization for test build2 mentioned in 1.2 page and you release this new build.
Why did you make it so tempting ?
Now I'll have to fight the urge to reflash it Today itself.

Wish you had released on a Friday/ Saturday.
Jokes apart , thanks for this release.
Surely it will be nice. Will try to test it ASAP.
Getting the new build right now. Stoked.

Hello all, I'd like to start by saying that this would not have been possible without the help of Lord, for his kernels, zFreak for the inspire fixes on ICS, and trh, for testing the ROM for me and dont forget dhharold for porting ICS IN THE FIRST PLACE!
And Synergy, for help with init.d B) Alienmind for ICEtools^^
Okay, now to the actual Rom, It's basically an ICS Beta build, that you all know and love, It features everything working (torch video etc)
EXCEPT THE FOLLOWING:
3D HW Acceleration
Camera
If you report something to me like, "Ohhh the gallery doesnt work" I will ignore it, becuase the Gallery REQUIRES 3D HW ACCELERATION.(same goes for google music)
Link; http://www.multiupload.com/YC88I38FF9
I had reports from Trh that the build was actually smoother, and snappier than z's or Lords builds. If this is true for you drop a thanks or something Have fun! Hope you enjoy!
Below this is the post for updates.

Any reason for starting a new build? i mean there are two other people already who've release beta builds with minor fixes...why not wait for the real thing and then come up with fully working customized versions?

because the DHD community is so demanding. Im mainly trying to take the weight off the main devs here. and im fairly sure people want a faster working build. so thats what im providing. I do understand where you're coming from though

This is ice cream sandwich for the Dream/Sapphire. Yes, you read that right. Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. We currently have cm9 and AOKP mostly working. AOSP is next
What works:
It boots
Touchscreen
Wifi
Mobile data
Audio
sdcard
Bluetooth (maybe. It turns on. I don't have devices to test with)
What doesn't:
Camera
Hardware acceleration
probably everything else, tell us

very slim gapps http://www.mediafire.com/?o94hh30vh0q1oy7 (there are here for testing purposes. contains copyrighted google code that I am not really allowed to distribute. use at your own risk!)
possible fix for camera:
http://www.mediafire.com/?smfhlv2xon1e45z
flashing instructions:
you need to use custom mtd. I used 140 for /system and 20 for /cache (rom currently requires a /cache partitoin. will be fixed in a later update)
1. download all needed files and place them on your sdcard. mtdpartmap.txt needs to be at the root of it
2. flash recovery patch.
3. wipe system, data, and cache
4. reboot into recovery.
5. flash rom and kernel
6. Flash gapps if desired
7. flash boot patch
8. reboot into rom
9. wait.
10. enjoy the awesome
To use data, you need to put in your apn settings. Google to find these.
Thanks to:

Aokp team - aokp
Ezterry and AndDiSa - kernel for ics

Sorry for the blurry pics. Used my other phone running cm9 with a partially working cam
Roadmap:
Slim down (in progress)
Mess with hw acceleration and camera (maybe never) - this will be alpha3/beta1 if it happens
Port AOSP
Changelog:
Alpha2.2: update to latest code. good cm9 release.
Alpha2.1: not released
Alpha2: fixed audio
Alpha1.1: small fixes (keyboard, other stuff) cm9 only bugfix release
Alpha1: fixed wifi, sdcard, and home button (skiped in aokp)
Alpha0: initial public release.
If you want to build yourself (please do, we need more people fixing stuff), the repo init command will look like this:
Code:
$ repo init -u https://github.com/UnitedDev/android.git -b ics
Note: rules on using this rom for other projects
Most of android is under the apache2 license. just don't violate that and we're good.
more specific rules: source is on my github, do whatever you want within the terms of the licences. make your own rom, use it to port other devices, release a rom that is exactly the same with a new name and a shiny theme, I don't care as long as you are building from source.
If you use prebuilt anything from releases of this rom, please be nice and send me a pm asking for permission. this is supposed to be an open community, but i hate seeing 20+ cm7 roms with nothing different except name and bundled apps. If you don't ask, and you havent made something different enough from this rom to be worth having its own thread, it may or may not get reported.
First
cm9 ! i will use now !
thanks !

Posted pictures in post 2. Enjoy
If you look at them carefully, you can see the box thos was built on. And you can see my girlfriend's leg

Can anyone confirm the status of wifi and data? I'd test wifi, but I can't find my girlfriend's phone and she is asleep...
I don't want to put water into the wine, but ... The status of the ROM is more or less in the same state as I had my ICS some month ago. (@Tvall: you should have a look at my repo, if you didn't do that already.) Wifi / Bluetooth should work without problems, at least at that time I had it working. The biggest problem (and the most important reason why I suspended the wok on it): to low memory on the G1. Startup of services from time to time failed even without any additionals apps installed.
Probably on the MyTouch it will run better, but I do not expect, that it will run decently on the G1, but I might be wrong ...

It runs decently (apps dont close much) on my mytouch, which is why I'm working on it. My plan is to get cm9 stable enough, then work on an aosp rom. That should be a little lighter.
Has anybody gotten this to run on a g1 yet. I managed to install, but it went crazy. I started doing a force close loop. By that i mean that it booted started then said trebuche has stopped working. I press ok then com.android.phone stopped working. i press ok then trebuche has stopped ... and so on. I followed the install to the letter a few times but i couldn't get it to run.
Nice work! Have you tried the EGL files from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526920 ? Hero has same gpu (adreno 130) as dream/sapphire so it *should* work Not sure about kernel however

Not yet, thanks for the link! If that works, I'll release another alpha as soon as I fix the home button..

Indeed, I really based this rom on CM 10 so all their issues will also appear here. .
But the progress will be regular I hope.
If many ppl are interested, I'll keep working on it.
And YES, ot 995 is really targeted for paranoid Android

I will throw any rom I can at this phone, so please continue!
I've never tried PA before, so I'll check out as much as I can. I experienced one bug. When I tried entering Paranoid android settings, it crashed.
This rom is very nice. I can't test it like I would like to though cause the battery won't charge. I guess it's just a bug that needs to be rectified. I will try the next test rom for sure though.
EDIT:
Just flashed back to my backup of iuss's CM10. That fast. So you can get back to ICS, GB guys. Don't sweat it.
Took all of about 5-7 min between posts.
As long as you backup before you flash you'll have no problem at all.
Just reverse the process.
Boot the original recovery by iuss
Wipe data/factory reset
and proceed to restore in the usual manner.
Good luck and happy Droiding!

did you at least see the submenu of PA settings or not ?
Wiped everything and reflashed PA...
Rebooted...

I have to enable android debug to get battery charging.
Very strange indeed...
Benetnath, do you have an idea how to track/fix 3G data?

This ROM is a combination of all Super ROMs Available
Paranoid + Aokp + Cyanogen = PACman
ROMs are compiled from source for Xperia Ray which is a msm7x30 device and is ported to Doubleshot [Mytouch 4g Slide] . This is a minimal port but with a lot of work done. It is still based on AOSP+CM source codes. The ROM packs all the tweaks from the three super ROMs into one.

ADDITIONAL UI CHANGE FAQs
Global density :
Is the one used by your hardware configuration and all non PAD touched applications. It's the old one that you can change with build.prop, and this one can get you outside of tablet mode - Phone mode. Don't touch it if you dont know what you're doing. This one has nothing to do with PAD or PAL, as it's the one designed by google.
Default SystemUI DPI :
User interface density, can be reflected on statusbar, Recent apps, etc. This one can't get you outside of your current mode.
Default User DPI :
Is the one used when your app is not on pad.prop list, so when you run a new app that it's installed by you, and not on /system/app, it will run at this density. This one cant get you outside your current mode neither.
Some Other Facts :
You can't change framework dialogs (like when you hold power button) density on tab mode yet, don't waste your time (it's limited from 120 to 128 global density so it's not a huge difference)
Keyboard must be on the same global density, for tablet mode (i have not tried phone mode)
Disable Settings>System>Statusbar>Auto Hide statusbar
If you see the dock on launchers in tablet mode, and not the old layout, this is NORMAL, it was ugly before, and now it's preset to phone mode at 240 density. If you want to get the old ugly tablet mode for launchers, go to settings > paranoid > hybrid settings > list apps, select your launcher, put density to 120-140 and put in on tablet mode
I'm not the responsible that some apps, being on phone mode, and setted up to tablet mode looks ugly. Google is. Go blame google!
The message that appears every time that you change DPI or layout mode for any app IS NORMAL, we put in there so changes can be applied, APP IS NOT FORCE CLOSING, we're asking you to force close, please read at least!

Wow, a three-in-one?! This seemed rad to pass up. Running pretty smooth so far. A lot of redundancy in the settings but that's to be expected. The keyboard is the work-around version which is fine for now. I'm loving the AOKP nav bar. Works so well compared to other nav bars that I've tried to use in other roms. You don't have to restart your phone to change it, which is awesome! I can't believe all these settings work together. Well done Matt/Strapped! This is a damn good port and surprisingly free of bugs for a first release

Yeah the settings are doubled up, but this is a power house IMHO. If you want AOKP just disable all Paranoid settings and setup through AOKPs ROM control or vise versa. This AOSP is the best I've seen so far and not because me and matt done it, because its 3 ROMs in one all of which I love...

But, my method is:
- using Titanium backup you can freeze/disable android keyboard,

- Use keyboard app you installed above as default,
- Disable hardware keyboard,
This method will work even after reboot, it's stick nicely, you may try.

I've tried to install that patch, during install there's message about changing framework. when booting, there is't PACman boot logo, but android stock logo, i've waited 10 minutes and stuck at boot logo, my guess it's NOT working, i am not sure if i have to wait longer.

I've tried to install that patch, during install there's message about changing framework. when booting, there is't PACman boot logo, but android stock logo, i've waited 10 minutes and stuck at boot logo, my guess it's NOT working, i am not sure if i have to wait longer.
