READ CAREFULLY ONLY FOR DEVS, YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE
I have atrix 2 mobile . It's bootloader is unlocked since in fastboot mode it says Ap fastboot flash mode(NS)
If anyone need mbmloader.img and mbm.img , ive attached the two file below.
What I did is I used this command
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p1 of=/sdcard/mbmloader.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk1p2 of=/sdcard/mbm.img
and took the mbmloader.img and mbm.img and uploaded directly here. May be this can help other developer to unlock their device.

anyone play with this yet?
I am pulling it down now.
I wish I know how you ended up with this ON your phone. The only thing that sucks is this is the GB bootloader and not the ICS one.
So this is useless to ics users?

Did the first ICS leak change the bootloader? If so, can it be downgraded? I never went past leak #1 just in case I ever needed to revert to GB.

You can go back to GB if you are on leak 1. Jim has his own thread explaining how.
Ok jim when I run your command on cmd i get following
C:\Users\dhurba\Downloads\Compressed\RAZRi_Root_Wi ndows>adb shell

su
[email protected]:/# cd /proc
cd /proc

That is AWESOME!!! that means that you have the Efuses set as an NS device. Where did you buy your phone from? They did make a developer version of the A2, but it was very hard to get a dev version, but somehow you have the efuse set up in the same way the dev version of the A2 is.
And to everyone who is wondering, yes the leak 1 did flash a different bootloader version a.73, and the GB version should be A.72 and no you can not go backwards. The way I was able to back to GB from leak one is by NOT flashing the bootloaders, since the A.72 and A.73 allow the GB and ICS softwares to run at the bootloader check.
Yes this will not work unless you have the SAME version of the bootloader. This is exactly the same as the NS bootloader that we saw in the GB version of the firmware we had. I did a little comparison and it is an exact match.
I seen that in the china forum they are looking into this..... They said there is going to be a BIG surprise soon?????
Jim i didn't notice HS and NS before , I tried everything to upgrade to ICS and Jb,
When I upgraded to ICS or Jb the bootloader version goes to A.73 and when downgraded to gb the bootloader version showed A.68.
May be My device was a dev device or may be There is something inside Chinese fastboot firmware which may help to unlock bootloader.
Ok here is what I learnt.
1 When we flash fastboot firmware from China using RSD every thing flashes except mbmloader_ns.bin or mbmloader_hs.bin , they are inside ota folder
so they don't flash, this makes easy for other device to upgrade to chinese firmware.
2 May be none has flashed mbmloader_ns.bin using fastboot command moto-fastboot.exe flash mbmloader mbmloader_ns.bin , this had helped me to flash mbmloader, may be I unlocked using the mbmloader_ns.bin inside chinese firmware or may be my device was unlocked from begining( I didn't noticed until some one told me )
3 Pls look at the mbmloader_ns.bin in chinese firmware. This may give some hint.

DO NOT FLASH THIS! You will surely brick if you flash this boot loader. This boot loader is GB based. Don't flash it!
Maybe this will help out on unlocking our phones...eventually.

All right. Let me clear a few things up. If your phone is the INTERNATIONAL OR RETAIL version, I repeat. INTERNATIONAL OR RETAIL you CAN GO BACK and forth to GB from JB, or ICS. I do that. There are some minor changes you will have to do though. You can't do that only on ATT final ICS. Now, whatever you do, pls DO NOT FLASH ANY FILES FROM THIS THREAD. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT MBMLOADER OR MBM EXACTLY ARE, PLEASE LEAVE THIS THREAD. DO A SEARCH, UNDERSTAND AND COME BACK IF INTERESTED. LET THIS THREAD BE ONLY FOR DEVS.
@Jim the op said in a pm that on the back its written "This device is not authorized as required by the rules of FCC". It doesn't appear to be a dev version exactly. Just a eng phone used by a moto engineer. My guess as to what happened is, the moto engineer gave the phone to his son or some other relative as it is eol'd and he won't need to dev for it. The person who now had put it up for sale over eBay. The op (amritin) bought that. And I am trying to look for differences.. also, wanted to mention the CDT theory that you can't go back if the version number is increased appears to be applicable only for carrier based devices. On mine, I can flash the GB CDT without any issues. (Please don't try this. ) and I can also flash the uboot and xloader (I think its a good idea to use these instead of the regular ones so that no one tries anything stupid. ) from any version.
Oh and one more thing. My phone doesn't let me use fastboot boot command even if the boot image is the moto signed one from fxz. It returns command restricted. That's why I asked him to try that. I don't know how you managed to use the command.
@altered this is kinda interesting

Hi,
Were you on 2.3.6 or ICS?
CG errors are not too bad, just softbrick IMO.
If you were on 2.3.6, please find the first sticky post (beginner's guide) for details about how to flash fastboot. You need to follow the instructions to replace files in 2.3.5FXZ.
If you were on ICS, please hang on and wait for someone more experienced to reply.
Read the sticky notes first. Thee noob one and then the others, there should be a fix for your problem. If you have a question ask right away!

So we know that the ics ota is is coming soon. In on stock rooted 2.3.6. I know you don't have to uproot to do it, but I did (for some reason) install bootstrap and bootstrapped my recovery. Is there anything I need to do with that before the ota or is that good to leave as well since it's not actually flashed? If so could you tell me or link me to a guide? (Sorry if this has been asked couldn't find anything on it)

Your best bet is to fxz to a full 100% stock load before any OTA. We already have root so losing root is only for during the update, I know it does not check for root, but it is safer to just be 100% stock off of the fxz.
If you are on the ICS leak, I have several people testing the fix I have made and I am hopeful to have it released to everyone in the next couple of days.

You HAVE to remove bootstrap, the log wrapper link in /system/bin and also remove the hijack file in /system/bin and move logwrapper.bin to logwrapper also in /system/bin. All of this can be done from root explorer. Then reboot. If not done correctly you will bootloop. The fxz is way easier and I have a scripted version that does not require rsdlite.

You have no ignorance, no worries... questions are what this place is for and so you can learn.
Yes I have script for both 2.3.6 and another for ICS.
Not sure if you will have the cg error or not. Usually you get that from flashing the incorrect fxz. If you tell me which version of the phone you have and your correct location, I might be able to put a "special" one together for.
Or if you bought an att phone but live in India then you might have to flash the att fxz and then give cogeary's international rom a try.

The FXZ to go from 2.3.6 to 2.3.5 so I can get rid of bootstrap.
i have a motorola atrix 2 at&t(MB865).my phone was 2.3.6
1. I try to flash this firmware 5.5.1-EDEM-28-37-MEARET_cfc.xml.zip from this site http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php with rsd.at 7/20 rsd was writting fail.i tried again with same result.after this my phone had problem with boot.the only method for boot was "vol down"+"vol up"+"power" and after i was pressing "Normal powerup".after all these my phone booted normal and worked normal.
2.after i flashed the Blur_Version.55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US.zip (ics) from this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968 and my phone was working normal but with the same problem with the boot.
3.after i tried to use this utillity http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805975 .this process had some failure and after this my phone is unable to boot.
with "vol down"+"vol up"+"power" i can choose normal power up, but phone stucks at boot image.in addition i can choose recovery and phone boots at recovery mode.i choose to update from sd with this file Blur_Version.55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US.zip but my phone writes that its unable to flash this.
4.after i try to flash InlineFlashing_edison_5.5.175.16_cfc_p3_APBP_CID28 5.zip with rsd.the rsd wrote fail at 3/20 in addition i use the replace.zip with the same result.
5.after i try again the 3rd step with same results.
can anyone help me?
This whole mess started when you tried to flash MEARET firmware on your AT&T phone. NEVER mix firmware!
And trying recovery at this point is not going to work, as the ICS zip is just a large patch file for 2.3.6. And since it failed on the fxz, a portion of your system is missing so ICS won't install. You need to fxz back.
What step is the script falling at? A screenshot would be helpful.
And for the future, please post questions in the Q&A form.

Well I hate to tell you man. But you are soft bricked until we find an fxz for ICS.
Recovery and cdrom are failing because cdt.bin isn't flashing. And we haven't found a fix for this yet.
Although the strange thing is that this shouldn't be happening on the first leak... but it is...
So you're bricked mate.

ok, i will wait.
thanks.
but please explain to me.i had a motorola a1200 and a siemens sx1.when i flashed a firmware, all the flash memory erased and new data wrote at flash.if i had bootloader, all was fine.the only method to brick a phone was to replace the battery when flash the bootloader(or flash false bootloader).
at A2, why when i write a new bootloader and new mbr(and partition table?) is necessary to flash the same or newer edition of firmware?this is because bootloader is locked?
i thought when i flash a new firmware, all the flash memory erased and writes new data(at the begining the bootloader, after mbr with partition table, after the image(i think this is the kernel of linux) and all other the data)

Whiteboi, thanks for your consideration of others but PLEASE, research before you try to help others. For one thing, he is on an MB865 AT&T phone and therefore MUST download the firmware for an AT&T phone. The international versions of the A2 are completely different, including radio, WiFi and the like. NEVER mix firmwares.
Also, he already flashed international firmware which is what got him into this predicament in the first place. He also installed the OTA update for ICS for which there is NO GOING BACK. Read the threads I gave him and educate yourself man.
I applaud you generosity, but if he wasn't already bricked, your advice would have surely/quite possibly bricked him. Be careful man.

Yeah man, if you OTA'd to ICS then I can almost guarantee it will fail at step 3 of the flash process which is the cdt.bin. If you are using the script it will also fail on the recovery portion and the cdrom portion. These are both because of the cdt.bin As of right now, we have no fix for this. Once again, this is the reason we are recommending people to ONLY use the first leak, and not OTA to ANYTHING unless it's 2.3.6 GB. Once again, reference the links I sent you.
You're bricked sir.
Until we find an ICS fxz. Which might be A LONG TIME.
Time to get a replacement/new phone.

Yes you can use rsd lite to return to 100% stock and then try the ota..i recommend upgrading to leak 1 since you cant go back to gb if you update to ics ota

Just use the 2.3.6 FXZ through RSD lite. If you want good webtop then stay at 2.3.6, because webtop 3.0 is more like tablet mode and not ubuntu anymore.
Here is a link to get the 2.3.6 fxz:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/InlineFlashing_edison_5.5.175.25_cfc_p3_APBP.xml.zip
All of the FXZ files are here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php
If you really want to try ICS, then I would go for leak one from 2.3.6 just do not root or install anything while in 2.3.6.
Here are the instructions for that. Again though ICS does not have ubuntu for webtop, it is just android in tablet mode:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968
If you like the ubuntu webtop and want to stay on 2.3.6, my hack works really well for unlocking the full potential of ubuntu webtop, that is here:

What do you mean you replaced the boot image? please give me a link to the thread you go that from... that is quite disturbing.
What I need you to do is to flash the 2.3.6 fxz file with RSD lite, and watch each step and make sure you get a PASS at the end, if not you might be failing in one of the steps, I think there are like 18 steps or something in the AT&T FXZ. I really need to know which step it is failing on, it should be something like step 3/18 or something like that... I really need to know that or if it goes all the way to the end and say PASS.
If you can grab a screen shot of the error or PASS that might also help as well.

Yeah not the best idea. That ONLY should apply to NON-ATT phones, all you just did was put the 2.3.5 boot image on the 2.3.6 bad flash, you are still not whole. You may not be able to get this all right, after doing that, not easily at least... those instructions were out WAY before we had an official 2.3.6 FXZ, which is what you should be using.
I still need to know where RSD is failing, that is crucial to know what is happening.
From here on, if you want my help, DO NOT do anything unless I ask you to please!!! I am one the devs on this phone and our resident expert here. I am very meticulous, but I will get you back but you need to take this one step at a time, and do only what I ask and report back.

Yeah unfortunately you are screwed, sorry to say. The white LED means it is dead, no bringing it back. That is why I was trying to figure where things were going wrong, rather than having you risk further issues.
You might be able to find an atrix2 with a broken screen cheap on ebay and just put the good motherboard from that in your phone, and get yourself back up and running, I have seen them for 50-100 USD on ebay. There are instructions on how to replace the screen in the general section.

Well, they will most likely send it back to you with a referb, and it WILL have the stock ICS on it, and you will NOT be able to get back on GB and use the ubuntu webtop.

Hello, I am sorry if I am hijacking this thread but that is not my intention. I have a similar situation here that I need help with. I just bought a used Atrix 2 yesterday and I am unable to use that.
It is running the following:
Android Version: 2.3.5
System Version: 55.11.11.MB865.ATT.en.US
Build Number: 5.5.1-175_EDFFW1-11
It was in factory reset after mode so i followed the instruction to register with google and my gmail added. But when go to contacts, it keep rotating to open AT&T address book and never comes out of it. So I cannot use my google contacts and has to dial the numbers every time (sucks). Secondly, I called AT&T about the address book problem and was told that is not their problem and asked me to update the Android. I tried updating endlessly but the phone always says 'The software is upto date and no update is necessary!" really?
I called at&t again w/o much success. Then I called Motorola and was told that the phone is running a strange unofficial (really, again?) android version that they cannot help either.
I did confirm the phone is not rooted.
Now, I have a beautiful looking phone that i cannot use. I am not familiar with rooting and all sorta things and can you please help me so i can use this phone?
Thanks a ton.

Thnx lkrasner for quick reply. I tried to take ota update, stuck in android is upgrading for half an hour, restarted the phone , did factory reset and wipe cache . stuck in M logo. I tried this 5 times. I can easily go back to gb of any region but cannot be upgraded by any means always soft brick.
I'm stuck in gb for more than 1 months.
3 days ago I tried to upgrade to ics leak cheesecake, searet one, it booted fine, but camera didn't work. So i restarted the phone and then the phone stuck in m logo. Within 1 month time i've tried every way and only 1 time it booted to ics and when i tried the same method next time it was soft brick.
Next is can we have stock ics kernel like other device do? How can i extract kernel from firmware zip folder. It is very easy in other decice but couldnot find kernel.img in any firmware.

You cannot flash a kernel on this device, which is why you cannot just fxz to ICS. it odes all these security checks in the upgrade. Not sure why that fails, but half an hour is not that long for it to hang, I remember mine taking at least an hour to finish.
My guess is, since you flashed different firmwares other than the specific one for your phone, something might be screwed up.
Give it to service and ask them to fix it.
If they can't make it, they might give you another phone. ( under warranty)

Just a thought:If you can get to the ICS leak 1 successfully, you should try OTA'ing from there as it will take you to the official ICS and hopefully everything will work from there.
BTW did you remove any bloatware or in any way modify any system files?coz that is the primary reason for OTA to fail.
Also check out the last_log file in cache/recovery,it might throw some insight as to what is causing the update to fail.

Are you sure???
Coz many have followed the fxz route when the update via other methods failed.
And technically why wouldn't the fxz work it will flash the new bootloader which is the main hurdle and other things.
Any insights as to why specifically can't we fxz from GB to ICS.
Not trying to be rude just trying to learn if i've missed anything.

Thanks xda's. May be my device screwed up.
why i'm getting error mbmloader failed?
Even though the device is asia retail, I can flash chinese and hk/tw firmware easily but always fails
searet and mearet firmware which has mbmloader.bin.
