I have an unlocked AT&T HTC One XL which has worked flawlessly all over the world - I have just put in a sim card everywhere I have gone and no problems.
Now on returning to UK, I got a Three micro sim card. The voice calls, SMS and Wi-Fi work but not mobile internet. The status bar shows 4G but under settings "Mobile Network" shows "disconnected" even though the button is on. Its driving me mad. I have been to Three website and manually changed the APN but still no luck.
Thanks for any help!

Thanks - unfortunately, I seemed to have created another problem! I thought I'd try the sim card on a different phone. Used a needle in the small hole to unlock the sim card. Nothing happened. The needle went right in! Eventually using it at a slight angle the sim card slot was released.
Now, the phone doesn't recognize the sim card! The screen shows a picture of sim card with a ! - basically no sim card detected.
This phone is such a nightmare.
Any thoughts on a fix?
Joe

The Sim card must be OK as it works on another phone. I have done a soft and a hard reset. Still comes up with No Sim. I have also tried another sim. Still no joy. So, sohow it seems must have damaged the sim socket?

Yes Exad - I damaged the SIM socket.
I bravely took the cover off by following an internet video. I noticed that when the sim card is pushed into the socket, it pushes onto a tiny thin wire that makes contact with another bit of wire to establish a connection. If these wires aren't touching when the sim card is in, the display shows "no sim". I had somehow disturbed this wire when poking around with a needle so that the sim card was in, the wires did not touch. I think I have managed to fix it - may be not for long before it springs out again. Perhaps I can attach it with a bit of solder.
You can't actually test it work until you put the cover back on - because that's where the antennae are. I spent hours trying to work out why it wasn't connecting to 3 and why it was no longer connecting to wi-fi. I mention this in case someone else is silly enough to poke round with a needle and has to take the case off.
Now, back to the original problem of not getting internet. You had it bang on with "After setting up the APN, make sure it's selected with the green dot on the right side." Although I had set up a new APN - it was the green dot that was missing.
Thanks for your help.

Ok so I am in the UK right now for the summer. Before I left I unlocked my phone and when I got here I went and bought a pay as you go 3 SIM card since they offer all you can use data and all.
The guy at the store said to wait 20 min then call 444 to register the card. After 20 minutes or so I still had no signal on my phone. I went into settings > Wireless > Mobile > Select network and selected 3 but it said "this SIM card could not be registered on this network." Same thing if I selected automatically. So I decided to try a friends Vodaphone pay as you go card in my phone. The Vodaphone card works perfect, I can make calls, send sms, etc.
So I went back to the store the next day to see what they say. The employee put the SIM in her phone and it worked perfect, which means that there is something wrong with my phone.
I went back and decided to unroot then reroot and unlock. After encountering multiple problems with that I have finally gotten back to root and unlock but the 3 SIM card still does not work while the Vodaphone one does.
Is there anything I can do from here to get the 3 SIM to work?
What rom are you using?
sorry forgot to mention that. Right now I am on the stock rom and stock radio. I tried flashing another radio and using the SIM card on Leedroid and RCmix HD and nether of those worked.
Have you try selecting different band like EURO band (may be worth a try )

not exactly sure what that means, do you have a link handy, please? I am willing to try anything, as long as it does not brick my phone.
Open Phone Dialer
Dial: *#*#4636#*#*
Press Phone Information
Hit Menu
Choose Select Radio Band
Choose EURO Band
Turn on Airplane Mode for about 20 seconds and then turn it off

No still did not work thanks though for trying. I also restarted the phone, reselected the EURO band and put on airplane mode but still nothing.
Any other suggestions?

Have you tried the 3 SIM in a different phone perchance? It seems like the unlock and the Inspire are working as the Vodafone SIM worked.
I agree, maybe there's something different about that sim that the Inspire can't read it.

Yes I took it back into the store to see what they would say/try to get a refund. They store employee put it into her phone and one of her coworker's phones and the it worked fine in their phones. I do know exactly what kind of phones they had since they were for sure Euro only models that I have never seen before but one of them was a Samsung with a touch screen and keyboard, much like a blackberry. Not really relevant to this, I think.
They would not give me a refund since it work in their phones. Which is why I am here stuck with a 3 SIM card and looking for help to get it fixed
Well that at least establishes where the problem is. When you boot the phone with the 3 SIM, does it give a "no sim" error, no signal at all , or no data access(voice/999 still work)?
When I first put in the sim it gives me a popup saying "Unable to detect your SIM card. Please make sure that your SIM card is properly inserted and restart the phone." It gives two options, Shut phone down and Restart. It also says this when I put the Vodaphone card back into the phone. I just have to restart the phone and I will have signal when I have the Vodaphone card in.
So I click restart. After it reboots, I have no signal (grayed out bars with a small 'x' above them). In my notification tray I have 2 new notifications. One saying that my SIM card has changed and another saying there is a sign in error to my gmail account.
If I click on the "SIM car changed" notification it gives me a pop up saying "You have insterted a new SIM card. Your phone will change the following settings according to your SIM card: bookmarks, shortcuts, wallpapers, ringtones, language selections, and input settings. Are you sure you want to replaces these settings on your phone?" Then it gives me 3 options, "Yes" "No, later" and "No."
I do not get any other notifications or error messages after a restart.
Backup your ROM then try flashing cm7 and see what happens, with the 3 SIM in the phone.

Ok I wiped everything and installed nightly #77 with the 3 SIM card in the phone the whole time. It has been 2 hours and I have not taken out the card yet and it is still not receiving service. So I have no idea where to go from here.
If there is nothing else I guess I will just have to suck it up and go spend some more pounds and get a Vodaphone card for myself.
Thanks for the help and if there is anything else you can think of for me to try please, I am open to all suggestions!

If they won't swap it out for you than I would say that is the best bet. I know for a fact that cm7 supports 3. There has to be some other factor affecting it. Did you have the 3 guys try their SIM cards in your phone?

No they did not, that is the only thing. They never put their card into my phone.
*sigh* I was really hoping for unlimited data because that would have been soooo helpful to be able to use maps while wandering the city. I guess this just was not meant to be.
Thank you so much for all the help! I really appreciate it!
Hey guys.
I was running on the stock deodexed 2.3.3 GB rom and out of nowhere my phone freezes. I disconnect the battery and start it up but now it won't register on the network
It says "searching" on the lockscreen and I have the no signal symbol at the top.
I try to go to my network setting but it says "insert sim card to access network services"
WTF?
The sim card works in all my other phones.
I've reflashed the phone with 2.2, 2.3.4, and 2.3.3 again but nothing
I've even odin'd a couple of modems. Nothing. How is this possible?
Can someone lead me in the right direction to fixing this?
Cheers and thanks!
I'm assuming you're still on t-mobile right?
if you want to stay on a stock rom, it'll be fine for you to follow the GB Starter Pack guide I wrote. The link is in my forum signature.
Check your imei in settings. May be corrupted.

Worked perfectly no problems but when i load up the phone No Cell Service. Am i missing something?
If you are using an unlocked phone there is a good chance that you will need to insert your apn's manually using APN Manager from the market.
Check and see if you have an updated sim card. remove the sim card and look at the side with the gold contacts. You should see numbers printed on that side. If you have numbers then you have the new Sim card. If not you have a old Sim card that could cause issues. t mobile will update your card for free if you have an old one. Just bring it to the store.

Hey guys. I found the issue and thought I'd share. Somehow the sim reader got gummed up so I sprayed some electronics cleaner in it and worked excellent.
If anyone ever has this problem just head to your local hobby store and spray it!
Hello all,
The problem phone is my girlfriend's Nexus S (9020a) with the following details:
ROM: Slim_ICS_4.0.4
Radio: NO DGSXXKB1
Kernel: [email protected] #3
Her phone cannot connect to a mobile network. I've tried rebooting, I've tried cycling with airplane mode, I've tried reflashing the ROM, changing the Radio, changing the Kernel. Nothing worked - still no connection.
My phone is another Nexus S. I was under the impression that connecting with the provider was controlled by the SIM card, so to verify that her SIM card worked, I popped it into my phone. It works like a charm. This led me to believe that it was her hardware, so I popped in my working SIM card into her phone, and it works too! In fact, from her nexus S (with my sim card in it), I can call my handset (with her sim card in it), and the call goes through.
I think this rules out her sim card being faulty, as well as her hardware, and considering I've tried changing roms, radios and kernels, I think the software isn't the problem either but I can't be sure.
Her IMEI number matches the number under the battery, and I've double checked that the APN is correctly set up for her phone.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.
Werm.
Read the radio guide in development there's a part about getting your 3g connection back. This happens to my gfs phone once and it was a pain to figure out. But I believe the phone is not connecting to the right service I.e. gsm.

iu suggest you get a new sim card for your gf, since your card worked and hers didn't. it didn't cost me anything.
Hi, i'm from canada and recently moved to Cape Town. I have an ATT HTC One X that is rooted/unlocked and has Viper XL 3.2.8 (thanks Turge, love this rom!). I got a sim card from VodaCom, but it was too big, so i found someone who cut it into a mini size, and that worked well. After putting the sim card in, i sucessfully connected, loaded my vodacom voucher and can make voice calls & text. However, data is not turning on. I'm not sure if my problem is something to do with needing APN info to make a manual connection, or something else. Any ideas?
thanks!

If i go to mobile network settings, network operators, select automatically, then under available networks it says "VodaCom-SA," and there is a star by it, and when i click on it, it says successfully registered, but still no data. Also i have tried to search for networks, and can also choose VodaCom that way, but still no data. I have also rebooted the phone, that also didn't help.
For future reference, i had to create a new APN with the name internet
thanks.
Hey Everyone. So I just received my unlocked 7 Pro from OnePlus' website, and trying to use it on T-Mobile. Took my SIM card out of my Pixel 2 XL and popped it in. Noticed when I first powered on at the beginning of setup, there is no cellular signal. Went through setup and still no signal. Even updated to 9.5.13.GM21AA and STILL no signal. It's weird because it detects the SIM card in slot 1, and even shows my phone number on the SIM, but shows Network as "Unknown" and "Disconnected, Radio Off, etc." Same exact thing on SIM slot 2. The correct APN is selected and everything. SIM still works perfectly fine in my 2 XL. Even tried a friend's T-Mobile SIM card, and the same thing. It detects the number, but no signal. Did I get a lemon? Don't think it's the SIM since I tried two different ones, and my current one still works in my 2 XL.
TL;DR
Cellular network not working even though it detects the SIM card. Does this sound like a hardware issue? Already got a RMA number to send it back, but if it's a simple fix, I'd rather do that instead of having to ship it out and wait a week to get a replacement.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
have you registered to network or dialed *#*#4636#*#* are you rooted or no different options to take the project fi - t apn makes my whole network setting disappear lol i fixed it google dont play nice
i have the same issue now with my 7Pro, did you manage to get it fixed?
