[Q] I Can't flash anything from TWRP...Help please!! - HTC One S

Hi all,
a friend of mine has bought his HTC One S 3 days ago, but after using the all in one toolkit we aren't able to flash anything....Let me explain better:
1) we follwed everything step by step (unloocking and rooting) with success
2) we can mount the sd card from the recovery and copy any ROM
3) when flashing nothing happens, just errors messages (we tried with Viper and TrickDroid)
4) As far as I understood, the boot.img must be flashed AFTER flashing the ROM, not before, right?
The CID phone is vodap102. It was updated to the latest JB before messin'it up....so it has Hboot 2.15. The latest RUU for this Cid is unavailable so we can't back to stock...how can we solve this?? any idea???
Please help us, we're quite desperate :crying:
Thanks a million guys!
P.S. Just noticed that when rebooting from the recovery it say that SuperSU is not installed and can't be pushed to the sd .....if I install it manually says "successful", but that message, when rebooting, appears again...

Try with older version of twrp

Great, after thousand of various recoveries we found the right one (TWRP 2.2.2.0) and we flashed Viper's ROM!
Thank you man!:good:

Where did you get that you have to flash the boot.img after the whole ROM?

As the poster above said, it's good that the 4.2.2 ROM wouldn't flash, or your device would have bricked by now with possibly no means to recover it. Flash a ROM from the S3 Development section.

Stuck at "optimizing android app"

I've a huge problem
I've a Sensation 4g I was on stock ics and i followed the guide to get root, htc dev unlock e CWM... (still s.off) after that I installed 4ext and ARHD 6.7.0.. and everything was fine..
Then i tried to install cyanogenmod 9 which requires CWM again.. so i've installed rom manager and installed cwm through it..
I was stuck on the bootloader image, so i tried to flash back my recovery which of course isn't working because i have CWM now and so i tried to flash back ARHD but it will get untill the beginning when it says "optimizing app" and it restarts and again and again....
Anyway i can fix this problem?? I tried to flash another rom "energy ics" which don't require 4ext.. but i got the same results!!! what should i do?! did i brick my phone?
anyway to install 4ext without having a rom working?

Let's say right now I've a big confusion in my head.. Beore I had ICS working.. i never even tried to downgrade so i should have the correct firmware right?
the last time i check i had 1.32 (and don't remember but it was the last one installed with the tmous OTA)...
Maybe when i did my first format of the sd should i've installed something before the rom?
can anyone giving me the exact path of the cwm backup?

andre read my previous post to flash 4EXT this doesn't require a working rom
also in normal the backups are present on SDCRAD
ie /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
so once you format the sdcard you will lose the backups

If I read this correct you have the official stock firmware that was with the T-Mobile OTA ICS update. This means your bootloader is locked even though you are S-off. You need to flash a engineered Hboot to solve this. Go to this thread to get a firmware package with this. Go to the "User-Friendly Firmware" thread by Kohr-Ah, or you can also use the firmware from GROG88's thread here.

[HOW-TO] Revert to Stock ROM JB for user with new HBOOT

Hi to All,
I want to share my experience about revert to stock for users that have new HBOOT, unlocked bootloader and custom recovery; can't execute official RUU. ( This method i think is more safe that downgrade HBOOT )
Step ONE:
Install this custom ROM: MaximuS ROM ( read the thread for instruction about installation of this ROM )
( this ROM allow you to receive the message of OTA JB update, if you know another ROM that receive this message you can use as well i think )
Step TWO:
install the stock recovery of HTC One S via fastboot ( after flashing recovery erase cache )
Step THREE:
Reboot your phone in system, configure the rom for first use, go to settings, information, software update and press check now for update.
You'll receive the message for an update, download and install, and now you have stock JB ROM. after reboot you can do a reset ( go to setting => backup and restore ) to clean the application migrated from previous ROM ( MaximuS )
I hope this can help someone else.
p.s. Sorry for my English!
Thanks bro for this, but my problem is not resolved because this rom couldn't install on my HTC One S, i dont know why... Log show me: MD5 files not found

( after flashing ROM from recovery remember to flash boot.img by fastboot )

I use TWRP and CWM and the same. My mate told me that i have unmount 1 and 2 partition in recovery but i don't know how.
Hi everyone,
thanks a lot, this saved my ass ... I had upgraded my stock ICS to stock JB and then tried to go back to stock ICS with a CWM backup - with the result that I had a brick booting only to a black screen.
I still had access to CWM recovery and so could install the Maximus 2.5 ROM and also the update to stock JB ran through just fine.
I did a factory reset afterwards, is it 100% sure that I now have a pure stock JB or could there be some leftovers from the Maximus 2.5 ROM?
Cheers,
Tim

Yes you have a stock JB, because with factory reset you've removed all extra application that there is inside MaximuS v.2.5.
All other unneeded file or executable ( like root executable and all other script in /system ect. ) was removed during installation of new ROM.
Remember just that you need to revert to stock to give your phone back to HTC for guarantee, I thinks you must leave on it the stock recovery.

It's happened because from recovery the system was unable to flash the boot partition. So after you did the CWM restore, you have all the phone with ICS android, but JB kernel, this cause your black screen after boot!!!
If you have the boot.img ( with suitable kernel of your old ROM ) to flash after you did the CWM recovery, you can get back to your BACKUP without any problem.
Also if you don't have the exactly boot.img of your previous ROM of the backup, you can flash any boot.img by fastboot of ICS kernel and this is should be enough to keep your backup running again.
Thanks very much for the additional explanations. I do have the boot.img of my original CWM backup, so should be able to restore it via fastboot. Great!
But first I have to send in my phone to have the USB port fixed under warranty.
Holy ****, is working, thanks man...

1.install maximuS V2.5, wipe..
2. flash boot.img with fastboot
3.Check update for JB, and flash new update JB?
And that's it?
I guess we have to make relock bootloader, after flash ICS?

You just forgot in the list to install the HTC Stock recovery before check the message of update, so:
1 => Wipe and install MaximuS V2.5 ROM
2 => flash with fastboot boot.img of MaximuS V2.5 ROM
3 => flash stock HTC Recovery via fastboot ( fastboot flash recovery ville_recovery_signed.img , then fastboot erase cache ) or get it from One_S_All-In-One_Kit_v1.0
4 => start the phone and check for the JB update
5 => after JB installation do a factory reset to clean up the ROM from the extra application that MaximuS ROM have.
You don't need to relock your bootloader, you just need to install the stock recovery, that's enough.
Hmm, wait, why need install stock recovery?
This JB will be working with custom twrp?
EDIT: I got it
I did it! I unmounted first 3 partitions in TWRP and installation successful.

Will this work on a T-Mobile HOS with CID HTC__001?
I have followed all the steps from above
- installed the rom
- installed the stock recovery
- then I was able to start the update but when it finished downloading .. I was told that the HTC software on my device has been modified and please revert back and try the update again and it would not preform the update.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in Advance
Hi once more,
after going back to pure stock JB this way, can I relock the bootloader to get "RELOCKED" instead of "UNLOCKED/TAMPERED"? (That would be good for sending in my phone under warranty.) Or will the phone stop booting if I relock the bootloader?
As far as I understood, the "canonical" way to get "RELOCKED" would be to lock the bootloader and install the RUU, but since there is no RUU for the unbranded JB yet and downgrading with an older RUU is not possible, I cannot do this.
Cheers,
Tim

The only word of caution that I think needs to be shared on almost all threads related to JB updates is to make sure you DO NOT have SuperCID... There have been numerous reports of phones bricking with the OTA JB update with a SuperCID... So if you had previously SuperCID your phone with 11111111, definately change it to something else.

[Q] CyanogenMod 10.1 bootloop after installing new ROM

Hello everyone!
As the title said, I got a bootloop after trying to install Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean.
How I did it:
1. Installed Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and Google apps for CyanogedMod 10.1 to my computer and transfered them to my phone's root.
2. Made a backup of the current version.
3. Installed first the ROM and then Google apps.
4. Rebooted my phone and now I got the bootloop.
I know that I didn't wipe data/cache/dalvik cache, that's probably the problem. I tried to resotre the backup I made but I get an error that says "MD5 mismatch!". I've also tried to wipe data/cache/dalvik cache and then install it again, I still get the same problem. The file isn't corrupted because I downloaded it several times and still same problem. I also tried to install it twice in a row but that doesn't work either. I can get into the bootloader and recovery menu.
Phone info:
HTC Desire S
HBOOT-2.00.0002
S-On
Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
I'm pretty new to this so please give easy steps on what I could do.
Thank you!
As your phone is still s-on, you have to flash the boot.img (from the new rom) in fastboot every time you install a new rom.

And your MD5 mismatch almost certainly means that you created the NanDroid backup, then renamed it or moved it.

[Q] Boot loops after flashing ANY rom

I have S3 right here and I tried flashing Trickdroid ICS, JB as well as JellyBean Official TWRP zip.
It is S-ON, so after flashing the zip, I go to fastboot and flash boot.img.
I did it already 2-3 times with every rom, but every time I get boot loop. Phone restarts as soon as the first HTC logo disappears.
What is wrong with that?
Do you have the latest TWRP 2.4.1.0 ? (did you try reflashing your recovery?)
What android did you have before unlocking your bootloader? 4.0.3 or 4.0.4?
(and don`t panic If nothing works there is always a solution by relocking your phone and flash the ruu for your phone from here)

What's was you on before flashing a custom rom? because just a guess but I think it was 4.0.3 if that is so then try TrickDroid for S3 and get v3 which is 4.0.3 so should work.
It was stock, but I didn't check the version before flashing.
So, TD 3.0, then TD 5.0 and it will work?
By the way, what is better? TD 5.0 or JellyBean Official TWRP?

You cannot flash S4 roms with an S3 phone, have you made sure that the Roms you flash are specifically assigned for S3? Cuz most are S4
Thanks, guys. That was HBOOT problem. I flashed latest RUU and then I was able to use JB roms.
I am terribly sorry to bump this thread but it is EXACTLY what I need. I read through it and am slightly confused with what you guys said.
Here's my situation:
I have a HTC Evo 3D and have tried running multiple ROMs and on every ROM I run into a boot loop. I use TWRP 2.2.0 and boot that onto my phone using the code "Fastboot boot twrp-shooter.img", then from there I go into TWRP and add the ROM to the root of my SDcard. Then I use TWRP to wipe my cache, delvik cache, system, and do a factory reset. Then I go to install from SDcard and install my desired ROM that I am trying. It is successful and when I reboot it shows the HTC logo, then the loading screen for the ROM, then it goes black, then back to the HTC logo and it continues to loop the same booting sequence over and over.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something different that I should use or do?
I've been trying to figure out this issue for more than 36 hours and I am borderline psycho right now, I really need answers!

Dude do you want a working phone or stock cuz a custom rom will be way easier for you. And yes it will work. Probably you are on the wrong recovery version. Just download the 2.3.3.0 version of twrp. I image you can install a recovery. If not look it up. It's the 1st thread in the dev forum. Ofcourse you will have to unlock bootloader again.
Now once you have the recovery get into it. And goto wipe. Clean everything. I mean every thing there. Now you have a clean phone. Just install lux DROID with no options I mean it no extra options. Just click next next till the very end. Restart to bootloader and install boot image. You can find a step by step guide in one of the last 2 or 3 pages of the ROM thread. Just stop worrying about stock and you will be fine. Once you have a working phone start digging on how to get into higher hboot and all. I am on hboot 3.01 and luxdroid so don't worry. It will work. You have s-on the annoying feature which devs hate but helps stop noobs from screwing the phone. You ain't alone. Bin there done that. Just give it a shot and msg bak.

Thanks for your help mate. I know much more about s-on and s-off. I had Desire S for two years..and now I got One X...this One S is for my girlfriend ... I Have rooted two Desire S, my One X.. but there is something wrong with this phone.. when i start recovery I get a error message cannot mount /data...I also cannot wipe cache, I get error while i try to wipe cache partition...but if I wipe factory reset first, then i can can wipe everything without any errors..and after factory reset I restart in recovery and receive no error about mounting something. I have relocked bootloader and flashed the firmware with stock recovery and get factory reset (from bootloader) to wipe everything else left... (I guess) ..still nothing... i donno what to do more..just to get the phone to service and I hope that i did not fried nand memory..
too bad...
Hope that tomorrow i will revive the phone..and I'll stop custom roms from now on..

Hey let me see if I get this right.. Once you factory reset it in the costom recovery then what is wrong?? You said that data wasn't mounting before that and after doing the factory reset there is no more error.. So could you try flashing an s3 ROM now?? I understand ur issue but i am not getting if you failed after the 2nd attempt too or wat u are saying is for the 1st one? The data may have become corrupt when you flashed the wrong ROM and then had to stop in the middle of the boot cycle. Well you could also try to erase the memories via fastboot http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Fastboot . be sure to keep a boot image on the phone at all times else u know what will happen.. :good:
I dont see why the nand memory will fry up just from this.. let me know wat happens.
Doesn't sound like anything is wrong with the hardware. Sounds like you Just had a bad recovery flash or The wrong version of TWRP installed in the first place.
What I would do when your position is just Unlock, flash clockwork mod Recovery.IMG, Install Custom ROM, And finally flash the boot.IMG for that ROM.
HTC_One_S | S-OFF | ViperOneS_2.2.0 | Black-Blue_Sense_Theme | ElementalX_3.4
After wiping all, data, cache, system, android secure, even external storage, I get no more error about mounting something, but I am still not able to flash any rom... CWM, as I now there is no version for "Ville C2" ..... I have installed twrp 2.4.4.0 and i have also tried with 2.3.3.0...same thing with both of them..
Thank you very much for your help, i will try to erase from bootloader...
I sent my phone to the warranty, hope to repair it for free...if not i'll pay...consider it solved. thank everyone for helping me!!
Have a great time on XDA and dont brick your phones!!!
What did it say when you flashed the ROM...did you flash the boot.img for the ROM?
