Hello everyone!
As the title said, I got a bootloop after trying to install Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean.
How I did it:
1. Installed Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and Google apps for CyanogedMod 10.1 to my computer and transfered them to my phone's root.
2. Made a backup of the current version.
3. Installed first the ROM and then Google apps.
4. Rebooted my phone and now I got the bootloop.
I know that I didn't wipe data/cache/dalvik cache, that's probably the problem. I tried to resotre the backup I made but I get an error that says "MD5 mismatch!". I've also tried to wipe data/cache/dalvik cache and then install it again, I still get the same problem. The file isn't corrupted because I downloaded it several times and still same problem. I also tried to install it twice in a row but that doesn't work either. I can get into the bootloader and recovery menu.
Phone info:
HTC Desire S
HBOOT-2.00.0002
S-On
Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4
I'm pretty new to this so please give easy steps on what I could do.
Thank you!
As your phone is still s-on, you have to flash the boot.img (from the new rom) in fastboot every time you install a new rom.

Sorry for the noob question, but how do I do that?
EDIT: I forgot to mention that it bootloops on the CyanogenMod picture, not on the one with the HTC logo.
Google it... It has been mentioned innumerable times on this forum....

dude, this is on the FIRST page of General forum

And your MD5 mismatch almost certainly means that you created the NanDroid backup, then renamed it or moved it.
Everything works perfect now! Thank you!

Hi all,
I'm trying to help a friend update his Sensation to bruce2728's CM10 beta. I started from scratch on an updated-to-4.0.3 device with this phone and have done a fair amount of research. So far, I have done the following:
1.) Unlocked my boot loader via HTCDev
2.) flashed a custom recovery via fastboot - it's CWM-based 6.0.0.0. I can boot into recovery and back up the ROM and restore it
3.) Rooted with the CWM-flashable SuperSU 0.9.6 and verified root.
4.) used the JuopunutBear method to enable S-OFF. This is verified by booting to the boot loader, it says S-OFF and hboot version 1.27.1111
5.) Flashed a custom ROM
And #4 is where I run into problem.s I started with the CM10 beta mentioned above. It seems to install OK, and then I install G-apps, wipe data/cache, and reboot. I get to an htc logo and then it goes black and boots into recovery automatically. Tried wiping /system along with another wipe of data/cache and same result.
Thinking I had a bad download, I re-downloaded. Same results
Well maybe his Sensation is screwy, I wonder, so I grab the official CM9.1 release. Exact same procedure, exact same results.
So now I'm wondering, what can I do? Right now it's back to running the stock but rooted ROM. So it's not the end of the world. Just trying to figure out what I did wrong or what I can do to fix it. Should I get the official 5.0.2.0 or touch 5.8.0.9? I see both of those on the ClockworkMod ROM manager website, and I own ROM Manager Premium, so I can do all that if need be. Thanks in advance.
You might want to try 4ext recovery it is probably the most used recovery for the sensation. Then wipe every thing except sd . Then flash the ROM then gapps. But make sure you have a working nandroid first.

I do have a working Nandroid. I'll check into 4EXT, as well. Thanks for the assist.
Will you think less of me if I pay $2.82 for the automated installer?
No, I'm not going that route, just wondering.
edit 10:01pm Central - that did it. Booted into bruce2728's CM10 beta. Sweet!
I just got this phone and I think I screwed the pooch?
I followed the tutorial for doing S-Off and then rooting and installing CWM which all worked. I created a backup for my Sense OS and then decided it was time to put a new rom on so I copied the .Zip for Cyrogen Mod9 and installed it but when ever I tried unlocking it it would freeze and then reboot so I decided to restore the old one and read more. I read that it needed the right firmware so I updated to 3.33 Universal and then installed Cyrogen Mod9 and now it still has the issue and if I restore the old one it just shows the htc screen then reboots. How can I fix this?

I have S3 right here and I tried flashing Trickdroid ICS, JB as well as JellyBean Official TWRP zip.
It is S-ON, so after flashing the zip, I go to fastboot and flash boot.img.
I did it already 2-3 times with every rom, but every time I get boot loop. Phone restarts as soon as the first HTC logo disappears.
What is wrong with that?
Do you have the latest TWRP 2.4.1.0 ? (did you try reflashing your recovery?)
What android did you have before unlocking your bootloader? 4.0.3 or 4.0.4?
(and don`t panic If nothing works there is always a solution by relocking your phone and flash the ruu for your phone from here)

What's was you on before flashing a custom rom? because just a guess but I think it was 4.0.3 if that is so then try TrickDroid for S3 and get v3 which is 4.0.3 so should work.
It was stock, but I didn't check the version before flashing.
So, TD 3.0, then TD 5.0 and it will work?
By the way, what is better? TD 5.0 or JellyBean Official TWRP?

No only v3 but if you can get an RUU thats more up to date then do that and the v4/5 should work.
So you didn't install a custom kernal before

Em what he said he did.
You cannot flash S4 roms with an S3 phone, have you made sure that the Roms you flash are specifically assigned for S3? Cuz most are S4
Thanks, guys. That was HBOOT problem. I flashed latest RUU and then I was able to use JB roms.
I am terribly sorry to bump this thread but it is EXACTLY what I need. I read through it and am slightly confused with what you guys said.
Here's my situation:
I have a HTC Evo 3D and have tried running multiple ROMs and on every ROM I run into a boot loop. I use TWRP 2.2.0 and boot that onto my phone using the code "Fastboot boot twrp-shooter.img", then from there I go into TWRP and add the ROM to the root of my SDcard. Then I use TWRP to wipe my cache, delvik cache, system, and do a factory reset. Then I go to install from SDcard and install my desired ROM that I am trying. It is successful and when I reboot it shows the HTC logo, then the loading screen for the ROM, then it goes black, then back to the HTC logo and it continues to loop the same booting sequence over and over.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something different that I should use or do?
I've been trying to figure out this issue for more than 36 hours and I am borderline psycho right now, I really need answers!

1. check if you are s-on or s-off. If you are s-on, you will also need to flash the kernel (boot.img) from a computer (after you flash the zip)
2. make sure your rom is compatible with your phone

Hello all!
I unlocked my HTC Desire S (with HTCdev website) and the use of "Hasoon2000's HTC Desire S All-In-One Kit"...
I can either flash TWRP 2.4.0.0 (recovery) or use ClockworkMod (recovery) to erase things and install the Cyanogenmod, but when I make a connection to the computer using USB and send the .zip-files of Cyanogenmod to the SD-card and try to install Cyanogenmod, the telephone just gives me a white startup screen with "HTC" and then the screen goes black (backlight stays on though)...
What am I doing wrong? I once managed to get Cyanogenmod on the telephone, but reverted the whole process because a new version of Android coming out back then... I do not remember how I managed to do it back then tho...
I think the main problem is, I did not make a backup and I selected "Erase/wipe system" in TWRP on the telephone...
Where should I go from here? Is he bricked beyond repair?
Thank you for reading this!
Also... after reading abit, I came across the whole "downgrade from hboot 2.02.0002 to hboot 0.98.0002"-thing?
As I remember correctly, my hboot is 2.02.0002? I did not downgrade this to 0.98.0002 yet, might that cause the problem i'm having?
Have you flashed the boot.img in fastboot?

To be honest I'm not sure what you mean, but I don't think I did that... Should I do that maybe? And could you please explain or show how in that case?
Thank you allready for your reply!
Because your phone is still s-on, despite being unlocked, you can't write the /boot partition from recovery, so you have to do it manually through fastboot (every time you install or update a rom or kernel).
See this guide for instructions, specifically steps 1 and 4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
Thank you so much for your help, I managed to flash it and install Cyanogenmod 7 on the phone and it works flawless...
I am however a little bit displeased by Cyanogenmod to be honest... I cannot get my mobile internet to work on it (from provider, not Wifi) and there is no Google Play/Market app on it... I tried to install the "gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip" file and it installs correctly, but it only seems to install Talk or something if i'm not mistaken...
Are there better alternatives to Cyanogenmod 7 that I can ask you about? I have read about Reaper on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433816 and it seems it may be better than Cyanogenmod itself?
Ok, signing in to my Google account has enabled Market, although I can't seem to download any apps yet... Hmm... The trial and error continues...

Hey Buddy. I just got CM10.1 on my S4. What I did was install goomanager from the play store and then install TWRP that way. No flash required. Then move the CM and gapps file to the SD card. Then backup the current ROM to the SD card slot. (I'f you need help make sure to Google wwjoshdew, he has tutorials doe how to flash CM10 to the S4 that should be similar to your device) after goomanager go to wipe and "slide to factory reset" not internal storage, and then wipe system under advanced wipe. Then flash CM10 and then Gapps. Now this is what I did when following my friends tutorial and the wwjoshdew tutorial on YouTube. Good luck, I am no responsible if this doesn't work and bricks your phone.

Problem with falshed x920e
hello all,
for a long time now i have some troubles using my htc butterfly x920e.
when i bought it, back in 2013 there was no 4.3 OTA available. so i dicided to root the phone and flash a custom rom.
the first issues came along because of the confusing different model numbers out there (dlxu, dlxub1, x920e, x920d) but finally flashed hboot 1.54, rooted it and the most importend, installed sense 6 + 4.4 KitKat in InsertCoin 2.4.0 Kernel. Erverything seems to run just fine that days after flashing my device.
nower days
there are many little things that comes along with the not perfect ported kernel,
but one thing drive me crazy!
the battery wont hold for more than 10h, maybe 12h if i just turn off everything + less than 10% brightniss (i even cant remember when i last used more than 40%) + just use the phone as clock! , running every day 2-3x to my power adapter.
it seems there be huge problems with the kernel and my device. just flash a new version of insert coin isnt that easy.
so i want to go back to ANY stock ROM that will improve the battery. i installed twrp 2.8.0.0 and downloaded the recovery out of this thread (4.3 for twrp) unzipped the .rar and copy it to the backup folder from trwp.
the device detect the recovery file, start to do his job. it runs through, finish and when it restart nothing happen! the HTC logo on white ground will show, after that it just get black an turns off.
so i get back to insert coin, just to have a working phone again.
is there a huge mistake when i think, that i can just restore with a recovery and stock ROM which i get here?
is there another step i have to think about when my devive is root and falshed with another kernel + ROM than the stock one, to get back to stock?

Have a look on here somewhere. There is a stock TWRP backup. Give that a try. Or you can find a Boa rom and flash that.
Let me know how you go.
I just tried to install the stock 4.3 twrp backup, a user posted in the OTA x920e thread. It runs complet through but after reboot, the HTC Banner just disappear, followed by black screen / device off. Maybe because of the trwp Version? I installed 2.8.0.0 , for dlxub1 .
What means "boa update" , sry about the bad knowlegde.

It's not because of twrp. You have incompatible firmware with stock 4.3.
Do you know how to post info from fastboot?
Just go into fastboot and use command "fastboot getvar all" and post that info here, so I can figure out what you have to do.

Because you are S-ON, You have to flash boot.img from backup manually from fastboot.
Or you can S-OFF your phone and just restore backup from twrp.
Procedure for flashing boot.mg S-ON users:
1. Go into recovery and do a backup
2. Download this stock x920e 4.3 boot image and rename it to boot.img
2. Follow this guide on flashing boot.img :LINK or this video guide :Video LINK
3. After that go into recovery, restore 4.3 backup from there, reboot and wait for ROM to boot.
I did it just the way you told.
the boot.img flash was successful.
after that i tried to restore with twrp and the 4.3 backup.
now i stuck right at the green logo on whte ground. nothing else happen..
what did i wrong?

You did nothing wrong.
Maybe firmware is not compatible with this stock rom backup. Radio is same as mine (updated on stock 4.3) so I thought it should work.
Also try 4.2.2 twrp backup. I think that one is the same as your original one before you started messing with roms. flash 4.2.2 stock boot.img same way.
